I think distributing roms packaged with emulators is illegal... not sure. I remember reading that somewhere... might want to look into it before we get bit in the ass for it.

I think DOSBox might be a good solution. I used to use it for old DOS-based PC games that couldn't be run on XP. Actually, now that I think about it, you'd probably be able to play nesticle on an intel-based mac by using a VM emu, running DOSBox, and then running nesticle. Although, using DOSBox would require you to use a DOS version of nesticle, and I have no idea if it would work online, especially versus people using the windows version (0.42). DOSBox definitely supports online play from what I've read (direct IP), so it's just a matter of whether or not the two version mix, or if version x.xx works online at all.

The hard part will be compiling statistics for all the players I've thrown in my positional spreadsheets. If you're game for trying to get some of that action done, that would be cool; I can send you the file if you want, with the organizational scheme I'm looking for. It'll be pretty basic, nothing ridiculous like #tackles for loss from 1973 Also, I'll probably need graphics, sim, and other help (I think it would be cool to apply the juiced com hack). Like I said above, the basic idea is that all of the HOF guys (and some other obvious ones that aren't in) will be better than the average player at whatever the given position would be. I'll probably keep it along the lines of my altered original rom style, on the 28 team rom with no hacks. One hangup I'm having though, is that there is only one kicker in the HOF... I'm thinking of looking for the best retired guys and adding them as well, because 1 good kicker on a 28-team rom is pretty ridiculous.

I think I have a good list of HOFers and guaranteed guys that are retired. I'm also adding Favre and Strahan cause they're dinosaurs and should be retired HOFers ;-p After I get all the guys in a database, I'll rate based on stats to an extent... then all the leftover "scrubs" will be given average ratings.

Actually, I think I'm going to run with the HOF idea. Anyone interested in helping?

The concept just seems really hard to put together... because every team has had stud players, so it would play like an even teams rom more than anything. I mean, off the top of my head I can put together a list of RBs that should get at least 56 MS or more: - Terrell Davis - Barry Sanders - Walter Payton - Gale Sayers - Emmitt Smith - Marshall Faulk - Thurman Thomas - Tony Dorsett - Earl Campbell - Eric Dickerson - Franco Harris - Leroy Kelly - OJ Simpson - Tomlinson All those guys are at least 56ms through 69ms caliber... it's just too hard to rate them comparatively. I mean, one thing you could do is call it Tecmo Super Bowl: Hall of Fame Edition or something, and just make hall of famers the best rated players on any team (the team they performed best for). After that, you could fill up the roster with scrubs, and that would be pretty interesting... kind of like the newly released All-Pro Football 2k8 game.

WR4 and TE2 are the best options... cause you can throw a fullback at TE if you really need the blocking down there. I used to have a dedicated blocker TE and the regular starting TE on my roms, but this is stupid for the above reason. Also, RBs are more important to have plenty of because if both your starter and backup get hurt (this happens more often than you might think) you have the 3rd string.

I don't want to get anyone's hopes up quite yet. From initial testing, I can say that it makes passing much more skill based.

This is cool, but it's just too hard for me to enjoy playing the COM when I've played online for 4-5 years.

nah, just saying rookies should be based on draft position. arm strength helps in the NFL... yes... but, it makes guys overpowered in tecmo. a 69/44 QB can do some serious damage. i mean, i understand that a lot of you guys like to rate roms based on real attributes and stuff, but PS is so hard to really quantify from them. it's just too effective in the game to really warrant giving a rookie QB a rocket arm. im not trying to brag about how good i am, im just saying that from my experience, PS is a lot more important than you think. give me BJ Tolliver and some 56ms or higher WRs, and i can run a ridiculously effective aerial circus. if you want to give guys high PS, you might want to consider lowering their PC at least a notch or two. a final example from the original rom... Dan Marino is easily the most effective QB in the game for timed routes or picking apart the secondary in general. just imagine if he had 81pc? i mean, only the fastest defenders in the game can even attempt to contain guys with 69+ PS, but when they're high PC QBs as well, it's nearly impossible to cause turnovers vs someone of equal skill level.

What's the cash prize for this tourney, and how many are looking to participate so far?

The audio program twister made is still floating around somewhere, but I'm not a big fan... if you check them during play, it's really distracting and slows down the game (esp man v man online). He made a text based program where you can alt+tab out and check, but it actually doesn't work.

You need to unrar it. If it still doesn't work, change the name of the rom to something without spaces. Maybe "D4God_pooptyrom.nes"

Well, I mean, if it's an updated original rom, I'm fairly certain that I probably made offense less ridiculous and defense better. Just compare it to the original; it should be pretty obvious.
