  1. Apparently winter break has been ample time for everyone to catch up on their tecmo rom rating. Here is an outline of what I've been working on... SEE THE NEXT POST FOR ACTUAL DETAILS ON ROMS I'VE FINALLY DECIDED TO WORK ON!!!! ____ I have been busy working on actual ratings formulas per position and brainstorming ideas to take care of a few things that I think are majorly wrong with tecmo rom rating: - QB running is too rampant - RBs are too fast - WR RE is too high - FB and TE positioned players need to have good enough ratings such that people start them - The relationship between RS, RP, and MS really doesn't mean much - OL must be rated as a unit, not as per individual players - Backups are too powerful - LBs are usually too controlling - DB INT is too low to take on accurate passers - Defenses are too slow ---- ___ I believe that I have fixed all of this in two methods: 1) By systematically taking care of each problem or 2) By changing first down yardage required to 15-20 (still requires playtesting to find out which exactly) and then applying my own INT vs PC vs REC formula ----- Solution 2 obviously seems like it would be easier... however, I think people would definitely rather stick to the more arcade like experience of first and 10. This is why I will be making the more complex roms for solution 1 first; afterward, I will put together roms for solution 2.
  2. thanks a LOT man... this will definitely go to good use on my roms.
  3. definitely stick with keyboard... you're way better off. it's more responsive and wins more grapples. unless of course, you use a turbo controller (eye-roll).
  4. ummmm.... im sure larry is just talking about what other people have told him... otherwise he would know that there is no qb BC rating. im going to do an HP vs BC vs BC experiment soon enough, look for it in the near future. it will work with teams like this on offense and defense: - 50 bc, 50 hp - 94 bc, 50 hp - 94 bc, 94 hp - 50 bc, 94 hp - 6 bc, 6 hp - 6 bc, 94 hp - 6 bc, 50 hp - 50 bc, 6 hp - 94 bc, 6 hp that's probably the max ill use... ill figure out what matchups will work and what will be control tonight.
  5. First of all, you have to realize that only LT and DT had 56 RP on the original. Remember how insanely dominating they were? In my roms, I tend to cap RP at 56, but I always take into account current season stats to come to the conclusion of who should get that. However, another HUGE deal is the overall defensive ability - in order to accurately simulate how amazingly awesome a certain teams Defense really is, you have to bump the ratings of studs on that particular Defense in comparison to others. For example, Urlacher, coupled with being injured, has simply not performed this season up to expectation. Also look at the Bears overall defensive abilities... they have not done well at all. For this reasoning alone, Ray Lewis deserves 56 RP and Urlacher deserves 50. This is how I would probably stat them out: Ray Lewis: RS: 50 RP: 56 MS: 50 HP: 75 INT: 38 Brian Urlacher: RS: 25 RP: 50 MS: 50 HP: 56 INT: 25 As per these ratings, Lewis is dominating, and Urlacher is really good. The only other dominating LB I would make would be Keith Bulluck or Derrick Brooks.
  6. henry should have 38 ms for doing absolutely nothing this season. mcgahee should have 44-50 ms... im tempted to say 44 based on not having been around the whole season, but he's exhibited the abilities of a back that should get 50. the worst starting qb on any of my roms is 44pc - but INT is high in compensation... this is just so that qbs dont throw the ball all over the place, but still throw lots of INTs. moulds would be 50ms 56rec most likely... i dont really know though, i haven't looked at anyone else besides bledsoe and the rbs.
  7. UPDATE... School and mono have been kicking my arse... this time of year is never good for hobbies. BUT... This is a rundown of what I plan to do this winter break (begins Dec 23) a) Final list of roms-to-rate: I've decided to exclude more than 1 season's worth of stats from my ratings, as most leagues are fantasy based on single-season performance anyway -1: NFL 04-05 end of season rom (32 teams, 2 roms) -2: NCAA 04-05 end of season rom (top 25 +3 teams i like); this rom will have no graphics updates unless I can get help from GRG or jstout, or any other graphics guy -3: NFL 93-94 end of season rom (28 teams, 1 rom) Features of all my upcoming roms: -1: QB running will be less effective through using lower RS, RP, MS, and 6 hp for all QBs, although the college rom will not be as controlled as the NFL one -2: Backups will not be the solution to all your starter woes; this rom will realistically rate backups instead of giving a kajillion guys 44ms -3: REC cap of 69, min of 19, for WRs to simulate the fact that bad WRs actually do drop passes and to discourage the JJ -4: RB starter MS cap of 56, min of 31; there will not be a glut of acceptable 44ms and higher RBs -5: Tight Ends and Fullbacks will actually have functional jobs; HP will mean something more than the usual... nothing that is, backups will have less ability to start as TEs and FBs -6: Defense will be partly rated on overall team defensive performance and partly on individual effort -7: INT will cap at 81 or 88 and the min will be 44; it will indeed be dangerous to throw stupidly into coverage -8: Playbooks will be altered to actively include FB or QB (thanks for this idea bruddog); runs 1 and 2 will be only to RB1, and runs 3 and 4 will be only to RB2, QB, and WR1,2 (yes the reverses will likely stay for nostalgia purposes lol) -9: I will work on fixing Play Actions with bruddog and try to include those plays effectively -10: Roms with more than 28 teams will be released in 2-rom packages, 1 using GRG's graphics update and 1 using the original graphics -11: Simming, schedule, and stats updates will likely not be included, as I really don't care about that stuff (of course, unless someone would like to do these once im done with the ratings. I need graphics help primarily, and if you want to do simming/ stats, let me know, please.
  8. here: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~yous0026/Tecmoha ... ebook..doc that's a rough copy of a doc bruddog's putting together, i think.
  9. working on it... school has sucked lately, and i have mono. hopefully ill get it done after next week nfl.
  10. rom ratings are also a matter of preference also... i know that im personally unhappy with many of the rating jobs that i see. i will also be rating historical roms back to 1990, but it will take a long-ass time, considering that i use full historical stats databases in my work.
  11. speed in real life doesn't matter as compared to speed in tecmo... speed in the game should be based off of effectiveness in real life, as it is a gauge of how effective the player is in the game.
  12. Offset I toss - run straight down... this one is very easy. rns pitch down - a little harder... but top cb and LB2 are easily the best at containing this insanely awesome play. in this play you also run straight down, but you have to dodge around blockers, otherwise, no one keys on your player (in terms of blocking). i like top cb the most, then top s (from my harbaugh to muster days), then lb2
  13. ahahaha... yep that's ALL i ever do: play with the most stacked teams against the computer for FUN! i can go undefeated by winning on huge margins every game with the colts or pats easy. the real joy in playing tecmo is playing someone else that is at your skill level (and doesn't choose their strategy randomly like the com).
  14. there is no best position. certain positions work on stopping certain plays. LB4 is only good if you have 50rp or higher there... for stopping the pitch though, it's still tough. DL3, LB3, top corner, bottom safety are the best 4 positions for stopping any run. a good LB2 is another option as an in between for stopping nearly every run... it does a decent job. my personal favorite position is top corner, as it nearly shuts down the common run and shoot playbook perfectly.
  15. thought so... you need to find a real life tecmofriend to play against... playing the computer all the time is analagous to obsessive masturbation.
  16. nope... it's a timing play on pass 4 motion (the original pass 4 in the bucs playbook). cycle to your second wr and time it perfectly to cause timed jj out of bounds.
  17. the best game ive ever played, hands down, has got to be when i beat the computer 147-0. It was a very tough game; the computer almost got a yard once, and i wanted to shoot myself.
  18. I've never once had a close game versus the computer. I dont even think i lost to the computer right when i first got the game when i was 6. in conclusion: even if it is late season/ playoffs, you've got to be smoking if you play "close" games vs the comp.
  19. i love playing human opponents in close games.
  20. no system. by the way, i dont care about simming
  21. are you going to include simming? that's all i like to do with TSB.
