  1. I didn't think it could get better than last year, which was my first and therefore carried with it all sorts of feelings of awe and boyish glee. I was a glorified spectator this year, but never once was there a dull moment. I attribute this to the crew that put it together not only for their expert handling of an event of this magnitude, but also for their hospitality and the overall welcoming atmosphere. The Elite 8 was a thing to behold. I had a perfect seat for the whole thing. Despite my geriatric handling of Twitter, I tried my best to report the goings-on but just couldn't keep up with or match the excitement of seeing it live. Mort going for the win instead of a very certain tie at the buzzer. Chet clawing his way out from defeat, down 14-0 near halftime and returning the kick for a TD. Leonardite reminding me of how shy my bladder gets when children walk into a public restroom and yank their pants all the way to the floor. I will continue coming to these tournaments, and others, no matter how many 'L's the scorekeepers put up for public viewing online. I'm in it deep now. Mostly because I still owe Dave Murray and Leonardite shots next year.
  2. Who are those handsome losers? Still open to a 'kick fight' challenge if anyone's up to it...
  3. Myself and another Minnesotan will be making the trek to Madison (Lodgefather) We're quite rookie level but would enjoy a chance to play with some of the better players. I imagine it will be like Rocky doing some resistance training in the snow (not that I'd ever compare myself to Sly)
  4. This is great stuff! I tried following it before from other posts on other forums and they didn't go to the lengths or break it down for dummies like me. Thanks!
  5. Madison Tecmo. Had a great time last year. With the level of competition I became extremely grateful for my 1 win. Won't stop me from having a great time again this year (provided I sneak in at registration). Maybe for about 95% of us, a t-shirt idea could be "I got my Marion Butts kicked at Tecmo and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" Out of curiosity, just wondering if anyone has an "X-Factor" that amps them up to the nth-degree? I've found that whenever I'm in a Tecmo slump, putting on my Big Country vinyls seems to help. Have to put on 'The Seer' before 'The Crossing', however, for some reason I still don't know.
  6. Okay, it's 2012 and I'm finally using my wife's Tivo for something. Conflicts with other programs? TOO BAD *popcorns Honey Boo Boo*
  7. Thought about it...then I just remembered that I am never going back to Ohio after someone let the air out of my tires as I slept in my van in an abandoned parking lot.
  8. As an inexperienced online player AND tourney player, I'd have to say that my initial gut reaction is that tournaments are the venue in which I would rather participate. I couldn't give a shit if I went 0-100 online, but feeling watchful eyes over my shoulder elicits in me the primal instinct to impress and succeed. Therefore, I might lob up more passes to covered players or try to run up the gut more with Marcus Allen online, but at a tournament the only goal is to win. If that's by winning 6-3, I'll take it. If it's winning 42-0, I'll take it. Just like any featured games, you can't predict how close it will be. People still watch Monday Night Football by the millions each week, whether it's a knock-down drag-out fight or a Saints-Colts blowout. I don't think live feeds are the be-all end-all for people in making their decision to attend a tournament. If anything, I think all the negative feedback against inexperienced players is the biggest deterrent. Had this discussion occurred earlier and had I visited it, there's a good chance I may not have attended Madison for fear of feeling a sense of exclusion. But coming to learn what stand-up guys the Holzbauers and Matt Knobbe and all the rest who made this happen are is what helped me punch my ticket, and even in losing my group play I haven't regretted going for a second. Okay, I think my boss is giving me weird looks...I'll hush now
  9. Hmm..I guess if I thought the reason for going to Madison was to win it all, I maybe wouldn't have showed up. Maybe I should have spent more time figuring out how to turbo and throw screens or study my backup TE's blocking power so I could beat everyone and impress them all with my mad Tecmo skills instead of guzzling beer and chatting it up with some pretty cool people.
  10. Now that was a tournament. Thanks for the hospitality and hard work to make it a definite no-brainer as to whether to come next year or not. Sort of surreal to meet all the guys I've been watching and following from afar. You people ARE real! And you are real good Tecmoers. My dedication will never match yours, but it never hurts to keep trying. I'll be in touch, and as I already promised, I will do my best to bring the hot chicks next year...will probably have to start trying right after this post if I'm to have success in the next 363 days...
  11. Hey man, Knobbe must have been playing match-maker all day, since he told me to track you down and get into one of your fantasy leagues. Sounds like it may be too late this year, but it's definitely something I'd like to try out. Anything Tecmo to keep me in the loop and keeps me gaining experience is welcomed. I think I heard about your little snafu matchup call, actually. Glad to hear I wasn't the only one with a match-up calling boner. I may have been a little cocky after my first win, so I called Colts-Seahawks against Matt Miller and he taught me a few lessons. In hindsight, it was obviously stupid to pick such a bad match-up against a final four participant, but of course that hindsight is 20/20. There were many mistakes made during the weekend, but there's always next year to NOT get stone-cold drunk the night before and stranded without a cab for over an hour (for starters).
  12. Hey all, sure, I'll be happy to introduce myself. Name's Erik, aka Butt Douglas, aka Douglas Butt's archnemesis, and I'm actually newer to Tecmo than most. I played the SNES version since mid-90s, never thinking a previous version could be better. In 2007 I found out I was wrong. Now I mostly watch others play to catch up, as well as acquainting myself with the legends by painstakingly watching COM/COM games and writing about them at
