Tend to lean Jets in all low tier match ups.   Like the 3 guys on D.  And if you are drunk Kenny O feels like QB Bills since they have same MS and PS

Thanks for the matchup post @Dotdon
MIN v. MIA - I lean MIA here
MIN v. CIN - Closer than people think, but Cincy has the edge here
    MIN v. DEN - Vikes
MIN v. SD - toss up, depends on my opponent
MIN v. WASH - toss up again but lean MIN
MIN v. DAL - Who would ever take Dallas here?

Good tourney Knobbe, thanks.  For some reason, I always do crappy at these Lincoln tourneys.  Played my first game HOU v. NYG, I take NYG and about the 2nd quarter I find out I'm playing Buck!  I turn it over inside the 10 late down 14-13, and Buck makes me pay.  I lose 21-13.  I then play a new guy Brian I think, and call NO-PIT, he takes PIT.  I turn it over on downs and throw an INT inside the 20 again, and lose 14-10.  I manage to get a win 21-10 and limp into the bracket 1-2 as the twenty-something seed.
I draw Jeremy S, who I've played twice in Iowa tourneys and at Tomczak bowl, he's really good.  He calls SD/DEN, I take SD and Elway picks me apart on the burn routes up and down (wherever my D isn't) and I cant stop him.  Manage to climb from 21-7 down to tie, but he wins 28-21, and takes that all the way to 3rd place.  Good run by him.
My offense is RUSTY like the trombone.  eek.

I call this one quite a bit, because I think most players will take PIT here, leaving me with PHX, who I'd prefer.  But this is pretty even.  Hard to score on either front, but I like the offensive advantage at RB a bit more than I like the D.  But its first to 17.

PS You have to answer my DET questions now.

What if we do a best of 7 coin flip, then play paper/rock/scissors best of 5?  The winner of the coin flip series chooses their controller, the winner of flip #4 chooses the matchup, and the winner of P/R/S series chooses who sits in what chair and whether the TV is on mute or not (although its not said, criss-crossing controllers in Tecmo is a huge mind fuck advantage).  Then the winner of the P/R/S first throw chooses the team.

This to me seems cleaner.  Thanks for the consideration in advance Dave.

I think this is a great idea. I think we should stream the coin toss process as well. Loser also has to take their shirt off in shame.

As the emcee of this year's tournament with no director responsibilities, I promise to be the same asshole to people complaining about the new coin flip rules as I was to the people complaining about the old coin toss rules.  In my ceremonial role, consistency is paramount.

. I.liked.it the way it was but i can adjust to new rules. Defering the matchup is just plain cowardly. You win the toss u man up and call a matchup. The tecmogods will prefer option 1.

I think CHI-PHI is all about who you play.  I played Jeff B (elite 8 Madison 8, 4th place Madison 9) in this in Madison 8, and he called this matchup.  I took CHI because I'd been a beast w/the run all day, and thought CHI secondary could give me enough support to contain QB Eagles.  I could not get any offense going with Bears passing game against an elite defender like Jeff, and eventually could not stop the 3rd and 5's w/QB Eagles.  Bottom line is you can't allow an elite player QB Eagles under any circumstances.  Knowing what I know now, I'd call PHI with this matchup every time in single elimination game, and in group play it would all depend on what I knew of the opponent, but probably still pick PHI.  In fact, I'd probably take my chances with PHI in single elimination against just about every team except SF and maybe NYG.

I fancy myself to be OK on defense, so there are probably several teams I'd prefer over the Raiders if I thought about it:
    DUH:  SF, NYG, HOU, BUF
MAYBE/PROBABLY:  MIA, CIN, CHI, PHI, KC
    YOURE PUSHING IT:  RAMS, MIA

I think MIN/DET/Rams is the correct tier for that team.  I'd probably take them too, because Montana/Rice and Montana/Taylor are the shizz

Agree as usual with Bruddog, you just have to be far enough away.  Sometimes I'll even have to run away from the WR a bit first if I know I won't make it to break up the pass/INT.  A lot of it is timing and "circling like a shark" on defense.  Once you get a routine it gets easier and now I very rarely ever am in that situation.

I needed to wait until today when I sobered up to share my Burning Mort Experience. Anyone skilled in the art of drinking knows you need to follow up with a few drinks the days following so your body doesn’t shut down from sudden alcohol withdrawal shock.

Friday we had a couple tvs and systems set up at Pounds, which offers free Tournament Edition NBA Jam and sells 40 ozs. There were a few Tecmo games played but NBA Jam was definitely the game of choice this night. Rice and Rony (@leonardite and @sonofpatbeach) went on a commanding run and taunted their competition with glee. Once it was discovered the player 4 joystick was defective the duo began to look human. Despite this disadvantage Zo and Grandmama (Tony and Durch) broke up the duo, which possibly led to Josh’s rage of throwing down barrier barrels later in the night and almost getting @drfrolf thrown in the can after being questioned by police. The highlight of the night was @davefmurray coming into the bar with his bags on his back and nobody but Joe knew he was attending. I’m still waiting on the footage of Friday night last year in Madison, apparently that will need to wait for another time.

Saturday we rolled slowly out of bed and headed to the site around noon. Dave and I jumped on a gravel road and we started drinking local beers on the way as I educated him on the local agriculture, economy, and the life of a North Dakotan.  We arrived at the magical Burning Mort Site which 30,000 to 10,000 years ago was the beach of the great Lake Agassiz.

Others have gone into detail on the opening ceremonies and Tecmo events that were played so I’ll just say a few things that stuck out in my head as the event was played. To me Josh should be awarded with the Burning Mort Spirit award. His Tecmo play was unparalleled but his fervor for keg stands was essential to the Burning Mort experience. By the end of the night he was just kneeling under the keg drinking because nobody could match his pace. Lou was my chief and a valiant one at that, he sported his headdress proudly throughout the night and the way he makes his player shake is a work of art. My only complaint was when he punted on first down because he recovered a lucky fumble. There should be no time for good sportsmanship during Burning Mort Tecmo. I was also extremely impressed with his ability to sleep on the ground without pillows or blankets despite us having a cot and pad for him. While this tournament is known as Burning Mort, it may go down in legend as Burning Mort’s brother.

As all the other North Dakota guys have said we can’t thank everyone enough for making the trip out. It ended up being the perfect crew that came and it’s hard to imagine it going any better. While the drinking and partying probably took a year off my life, all the laughs surely added two.

    Love,

    Wow, this sounds totally awesome.
There are not many regrets I have in my life at my age.  Not making this is definitely in the Top 3.  Hopefully there is a future Burning-Mort type experience.  I WILL be there.  In the meantime, I will say "The Conjurer" in a mirror 3x/day and start saving fireworks (its Iowa so it will just be snakes and sparklers).
