    GameplayLoop got a reaction from SBlueman in I'm back to make a VERY SPECIAL ROM, and I need your guidance!
    I'm encouraging myself to embrace the detail. Race color, closest player portrait--I'm going for it. That level of granularity is kind of what I'm trying to do with this ROM. I'm using your roster spreadsheets with the O.G. TSB rosters for reference of the original player attributes, while looking up stats on a few different websites, and drafting edits in TSBToolSupreme to build a first draft of the rosters. I also think there are a few interesting graphical tweaks in the older ROMs I made that I may wind up incorporating. Generally, I've been allowing myself to take my time, which has helped to get through it all.

    Ya its painful… specifically if you want to have accurate race color…

    Shoutout to Bruddog for these incredible spreadsheets. They're helping me a bunch in my new ROM project.

    I had forgotten how much of a grind it is putting accurate rosters together. Rewarding in its own right, but phew.

    The following contents are entirely credited to Jstout, as part of a locations .txt file that he created, and that Buck had recently posted a scan from. Some of the contents of the below TSB ROM locations have been posted previously in Hacking Documentation from other sources. A great deal of it, however, is unique to the information found below. Eventually, this information will be assimiliated into the main Hacking Documentation resource thread. Enjoy!

    Happy to hear you have the itch again! Here are some of the editors I have been using:

    1. General Team Stats editing - I use TSB Tool for the team names, abbreviations, playbooks, team and player sim codes, Pro Bowl rosters, season schedule and setting return men. I use a spreadsheet to edit the rosters, save to a .csv file, clean it up in a text file and then paste the rosters into TSB Tool.
    2. Small & Large Helmet Editing & 4. General Graphics Editing - There is no editor that works with the mini and large helmets specifically that works. The best editors seem to be YY-CHR and Tile Layer Pro.
    3. Schedule Editing - As of now I edit it using TSB Tool. For custom schedules like the NCAA release I used the schedule maker over at FootballGuys.com It's a bit limited though (can't make a 17 week season for a 32 team 8 division schedule, they cap it at 2 divisions for 32 teams).

    These are the essentials I use when editing:
    TSBTool 1.0.0.3
    TSB Playbook Editor Beta03
    Lunar IPS
    Translhextion
    TSB Play Editor
    YY-CHR
    Tecmo Endzone Editor
    Tecmo Hack Setter

    GameplayLoop got a reaction from SBlueman in I'm back to make a VERY SPECIAL ROM, and I need your guidance!
    Heyo! Been a while!

    So, I haven't edited a TSB ROM in about a decade. More? Less? Who knows. I don't know if there has been evolution in the tools used, so I wanted to ask the VERY LAZY question if someone could point me to the best tools, or provide documents with locations for some specific editing needs:

    1.) General Team Stats editing (TSB Tool Supreme, I assume)
    2.) Small & Large Helmet Editing
    3.) Schedule Editing
    4.) General Graphics Editing (various screen editors, or HEX info)

    My plan is to use a cleaned up, relatively basic 32-team ROM. Maybe I'll add some hacks, maybe I won't. The initial emphasis will be on editing team stats and graphics for a 32-team ROM. I’m trying to keep it to more of a short-hand project than a full overhaul ala something like Tecmo Super Coach.

    Let’s assume I don’t remember a single thing about any of this stuff, which is only partly true. Opinions? Advice? Lemme have it!

    Here's a link to the goal post color hex address: http://tecmobowl.org/topic/53494-goal-post-color/

    Eventually, I'm going to go through Johnny's color mega thread, and reorganize his efforts so it's easier to read. I'd like to create a giant aggregate color location Bible for every identified hex color location that there is.

    GameplayLoop got a reaction from AZcactus in Changing QB WR Priority
    A few people have sent me messages asking to help explain how to alter the QB WR priority selection. Here's a brief tutorial.

    Go to the destination HEX addresses below.

    Pass Play Pointers:

    PRO T WAGGLE L = $A4ED (x84FD)
    R AND S FLARE C = $B287 (x9297)
    PRO T WAGGLE R = $ADA0 (x8DB0)
    ROLL OUT R = $A808 (x8818)
    ROLL OUT L = $AB6E (x8B7E)
    T PLAY ACTION D = $B2BF (x92CF)
    PRO T SCREEN L = $B2EF (x92FF) and $B7EE (x97FE)
    PLAY ACTION = $B0C2 (x90D2)
    PWR FAKE Z POST = $B7FF (x980F)
    WTE F;FLICKER = $A5DE (x85EE)
    SHOTGUN X CURL = $B32B (x933B) and $B7F4 (x9804)
    R AND S Z FLY = $B363 (x9373)
    PRO T FLARE D = $B39F (x93AF)
    OFFSET FLARE E = $B3C1 (x93D1)
    ONEBACK Z CROSS = $B3F5 (x9405)
    ONEBACK FLARE A = $B436 (x9446)
    T FLEA FLICKER = $B471 (x9481)
    PWR FAKE X FLY = $A68F (x869F)
    SHOTGUN X DRIVE = $B4AC (x94BC)
    R AND S 3;WING = $B4F5 (x9505)

    Additional QB Priority Information:

    Example Play:
    R&S FLARE C QB
    $B287 (x9297): d4; c0 00 dc; e4; c0 00 f0; f0 80; 2c $B2AC; c7 $B2A6; c1 1e c8 b3;
    THROW (x92AB): 94 31 25 44 32 f3 $B842; ff $B832
    $B2A6 (x92B6): c1 1e c8 f3; fe THROW
    $B2AC (x92BC): c1 23 2d fd; e2 04; e3 04; d8 10 e8; d8 1a f0; 27 $B838; fe THROW

    Common Designs:
    $B832 (x9842): STAND FOREVER
    $B838 (x9848): RUN
    $B842 (x9852): SWITCH CONTROL TO RECEIVER

    Key:
    91-94 = PASS RECEIVERS
    20-2F = RANDOM GOTO (20 is likely to 2F is not likely)
    C0 = DROPBACK
    C1 = PASS TIMING
    C7 = GOTO POINTER IF CPU (CPU and COA/MAN are different)
    D4 = TAKE SNAP
    D8 = MOVE TO LOCATION
    E2 = BOOST RP
    E3 = BOOST MS
    E4 = PLAYER TAKES CONTROL
    F0 = FACE DIRECTION
    FE = GOTO
    FF = GOTO POINTER

    C1 has 3 values. The first is START TIME, the second is END TIME, and the third is TAKE A SACK CHANCE. The QB will throw the ball anywhere inbetween the start and end times (so a small range 23 2d will not vary much but a large one like 1e C8 would). The final value is the chance of taking a sack or immediately throwing it (higher is more likely to throw) even if not in time frame.

    91-94 has values for the odds of throwing to a receiver and which receiver order. 91 has 2 players, 92 has 3 receivers, 93 has 4 receivers, and 94 has 5 receivers. From the play above (94 31 25 44 32 f3) 31 is 3 chance to 1 (RB1), 25 is 2 chance to 5 (TE), 44 is 4 chance to 4 (WR2), 32 is 3 chance to 2 (RB2), and F3 is F chance to 3 (WR1). The chances are 0 is very unlikely to F who is very likely and F will always be the final receivers value. The QB will look in order from first to last on the list one by one checking whether to throw or not.

    Note: the QB will only throw the ball once the 91-94 command has been reached.

    GameplayLoop got a reaction from Bad Moon Rison in New York, NY - 10/20/18 - The New York Tecmo Super Bowl Tournament 2018
    Thanks again to @Bad Moon Rison for hosting another awesome NYC Tournament. Apologies for having to ghost not long after my loss, but I was presented with a dinner opportunity that I could catch if I hurried. Brian, Ryan and crew do an amazing job. I am thoroughly impressed every year. Thanks again for hosting, guys!

    I'm also glad to see @Ranatoro won, because I lost to him in the quarter finals. Funny story about my quarter finals loss...

    MIN (me) vs. MIA (him). 7-7 at the very end of the 4th. Near my own end zone. I go to throw a Hail Mary to Anthony Carter as time expires. Wade Wilson is by my end zone line. A Dolphins defender bot jumps and blocks my pass at the line. The ball floats in the air backwards and out of the Northern side of the end zone. Incomplete? NOPE. How about end zone safety glitch for FOR THE LOSS. I lost 7-9 because of this blocked pass safety glitch!

    Hey, if I'm gonna lose, might as well be memorable. And to be fair, Ranatoro fumbled the ball about 3 times that game, so I feel like the TSB Gods were throwing him a bone for getting screwed throughout the entire game.

    GameplayLoop got a reaction from _DEBERG in Tecmo Super Bowl II - Hacking/Resource Documentation
    Hey Tecmo Super Bowl II fans,

    I don't play the SNES/Genesis versions of this game, or later generations after NES TSB, in general. In fact, I can't think of anyone that prefers Tecmo Super Bowl II over any other version of this game. It's kind of the bastard child of the original three. Not as bad as Star Wars: Episode III, but close.

    Thanks to Xplozv, there IS some documentation for TSB II hacks, however. If someone will volunteer rounding up all of the hacking documentation that's been written, I'll be happy to pin the thread in this forum.

    Good luck and God Speed.

    GameplayLoop got a reaction from Loshaw36 in Welcome! The Official Introductions / First Post Thread
    Since I'm about to release what will be my last major update of Tecmo Super Coach '09-10, I'm down for a little history story time.

    I'm Maynard. Rod made my name green, which is perfect for me...... Mmmmm.......

    I've been around these boards a long time, in that I was visiting every half year or so in the mid 2000s, but only created an account / started frequently posting in 2008 when, after half a lifetime of casual TSB under my belt, was I reunited with a legitimate streak of played seasons with a housemate and great friend of mine, Anthony, during 2006.

    He and I must have played 20 or so seasons, logging in all of our season stats in Excel spreadsheets over the course of 8 months or so. Drinking, smoking, trash talking, drinking, smoking, rinse and repeat. We started with MAN games, but my history with TSB sort of separates my skill level from the casual videogame player; this is not to say plenty of individuals couldn't school me who frequent this forum, I'm sure. Although, to my credit, I still have yet to play a single person in a game of TSB from this forum community. So, Anthony, who was more competitive than myself, especially after being in the state of intoxication that we were when TSB was in full effect, didn't like losing all of the time.

    When I was younger, back when I was playing TSB with my old man, I couldn't very well play MAN games with him. I would have destroyed him and no way was my old man building that kind of hand / eye coordination. I proposed we play Coach Mode since I wanted to include the old man despite his virtual handicap. That's when I grew an appreciation for Coach Mode and the concept of football played as a game of chess.

    Flash forward to Anthony's situation: and so I proposed Coach Mode to him. In our later-20s, Anthony and I realized that another positive of Coach Mode, beyond leveling the playing field some, was that we could truly utilize videogames in the way that we appreciated them, as a relaxer. Having the ability to drink, eat, and consume any an all agents of inebriation while ALSO playing TSB in the form of Coach Mode sold us completely on the playing style.

    After he moved out TSB went into hibernation until my next housemate and bud, Dan, moved in. He was a TSB fan as well, but was even worse at playing manually than Anthony was. Coach Mode to the rescue! But it was during my time coaching seasons against Dan, when after I experienced a 2100+ yard season running with Neal Anderson in Coach Mode playing every game against a human coached opponent, that I realized Dan and I, at the very least, needed some form of updated version of TSB.

    That's when I joined The TSB Repository. That's when I realized how much information was out there about editing TSB. That's when I realized people like Jstout, CX-ROM, Bad_Al, and others who paved the path for any of this shit to be laid out like it is (as far as I'm concerned anyway) were still lurking in the corners of the forum in partial hibernation after many years of productivity. That's when I started fucking with TSB. The rest is the rest.

    I've been messing with my ROM edit, which is a combination of many efforts, as denoted in the credits screen of the game itself and in the Instructions, for the better part of two years or thereabouts. I had no previous knowledge of editing NES ROMs. It did take patience for me to learn many of the concepts needed to graphically edit, or hexadecimally (I just created that word right now) edit TSB. I consider myself a fast but stubborn learner, who better adapts to working with concepts by fucking with them, and which is highlighted by reading about them from those who know better. I'm still learning all sorts of shit about how to edit this game, and there are many people who are way better at doing so than myself. That being said, I'm happy with what I've been able to create, and am always looking forward to that next update--however occasional it might be, as I tend to have a very active life outside of messing with TSB.

    Enjoy the Repository. I do!

    Hey Yo! So I didn't write about this after last year's tournament, because I got sidetracked. Shame on me.

    Just wanted to write that I am pumped to once again participate in this year's Raven's Head tournament. Brian and dudes do an exceptional job setting up a great tournament. As a tournament host, Brian is awesome. I can imagine it is not an easy thing to keep all of the moving pieces organized throughout the tournament, so I want to show Brian and crew the love they deserve.

    THANK YOU, GENTLEMEN for setting this shit up. We players truly do appreciate your efforts.

    See all of you f*ckers next weekend, where I will not make the same amateur mistake this year by giving someone Deion Sanders to run all over me... and yes, I'm still pissed about that.
