OK I am very happy to announce a draft date. In remembrance of that day back on May 18, 1980, the day that literally shook the PNW, we will be having a live draft/retro sports extravaganza (think several mini tourneys) on May 18th in the Garage here in Grit City.
If you are in CFT 4 but can't make the live draft, you will just have to draft from home and hopefully enjoy the streaming of the draft and live retro sports action from the comfort of your own home.
I have confirmations from Stu, Joey B, and White Tick.
Still waiting to hear from some like @~Tailback King~, @XtraLargent, @DT., @ptitteri, @invader_star64and @gripsmoke.
Current games list for the Retro Sports Tourney.
Atari - Fishing Derby, Freeway, Tennis and Warlords. Possibly Hockey. Maybe even Frogs n Flies because Grandma's Boy.
NES - RBI 3, perhaps something around facing Tyson (fastest to beat him), Tecmo Bowl, Ice Hockey, Golf, Micro Machines, 2 on 2 TSB, Sprintmaster
Genesis - NBA Jam (not TE) because Juice Mode and Big Heads, NHL 95 (because crack) (I'm open to NHL 94 instead)
16 Bit GENESIS or SNES - Home Run Derby (World Series Baseball?), QB Challenge
Im open to other suggestions (and closed to some) Holla!

During pool play, player with the most rushing yards with Marion Butts gets $35. Player who holds Butts to least amount of yards also gets $35. Call me over to confirm yardage or take (clear) picture of blue screen. Remember this is not mandatory, you do not have to call any SD matchups if you don't wish to.

@Darth RockMan was big time in this tournament. Taking two from @Tecmo Psycho and Mort back to back is no small feat. For those that were looking for the stream link, it's here....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGk4vlME4wQ
Due to the length of the event, and upload limitations, Youtube deemed it necessary to end things after game 1 between Rock and Mort. It's my goal to have that footage separated from our local recording and uploaded as a separate video this week.
For those that might be wondering what the longer pauses might be for, it's because of the round robin nature of the tournament, and the format itself. Because you couldn't call a match up your opponent had played in, as well as yourself, additional time and consideration was needed to determine what would be permitted. Due to the marathon style of the tournament with 10-11 round robin games plus the bracket, people needed a brief pause in between each game. I did not witness or hear about many blowouts, so the nerves of each player were certainly tested.
As this continues to grow, I would imagine reducing the number of RR games will be a reality. I'd also imagine a possible reduction in play in games down to 1, as well as earlier bracket rounds potentially to accelerate the timeline before going best 2/3. Those decisions take place elsewhere of course.
Congrats to the RSG guys for putting on another great event. It was fun to be there.
On another note, someone had the bright idea of playing "Goodbye Horses" again.(Buffalo Bill cross dressing scene from Silence of the Lambs) This happened during the TPC I during bracket play last year. @toolie and I noticed it, and despite his absence this year, I let him know it happened again. Here was his response.
"Would you lurch me? I'd lurch me..."
I know @joeygats likes huge turnouts. Marginal growth of even just 10 people would add another $1,000 into the prize pool. The tournament is all about quality of competition, combined with quantity of games. Sure, your buy in is essentially doubled when compared to other national tournaments, but you get more than double the games, so keep that in mind when contemplating attending this in the future.
GG everyone

Only a few days away from The Tecmo Players Championship II! As of Monday Flo said he was coming as well and we sit at 20 players that I know of. I went into last year knowing I wasn't ready for this heavy of competition yet. I beat Hank, Flo and TecmoBo last year to end up 3-10. Tecmo Gods willing I plan on doing much better this year. If you're on the fence this is the most guaranteed Tecmo games (11) that I've ever heard of at a tournament. We're having a meetup at Dmen Tap the night before and will be having our Dmen Tap Tecmo League Super Bowl with RSG (Tom Jets) vs Pig (Todd Daniels Wash). After that or possibly during we'll be having tons of warmup games and however many shots of malort you want to do with me. I am so excited to see you all again and cannot wait for this. Love you all, see you all soon.

allamerican1569 reacted to kamphuna8 in Cascadia Effin' Tecmo - How It's Done (and How you could do it too)
This is more of a nerd and history post since I don't want to include this stuff on every new CFT season post. Our history will be updated here as well. Admins (of which I am one) I only post this in Live Tourneys because there isn't a Live League section.
THE REST OF THIS POST IS HIGHLY TECHNICAL AND NERDY. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK...
Visions for the future: This will continue to be a major summer event going forward with added seasons sprinkled in Fall like CFT 3 in November or CFT RNG could randomly pop up like it did in January. Eventually I would like to grow this to be a 16 game season. This could be done over one weekend (2 days or 3) or spread over over more time (1 day on consecutive weekends or something like that) With still around 12 players I could still do it in my garage and we could do a 16 game season where each team plays each of the other 5 same conference teams twice and the opposite conference teams once 5x2 + 6 = 16. I know thats a lot of tecmo to play in a short time, so we'll see how that develops. Joey B's spot has proven to be a major addition to the PNW host venues and there's hope that Manyo's Camp David (Hand Down the BEST spot for live tecmo) will be back in the mix in the not so distant future. I also hope to get some non PNW KampBuddies out to future CFT seasons. I envision pairs of tecmo brethren from around the same region could take a tecmocation out here to the PNW where it's pretty much great weather once you get past July 4th, and usually before hand as well. Like my Chicago chaffeurs to Madison @modeezie and @toolie, B&G Vets @stalltalk and @MattyD, NTF brethren @chiefsjr83 and @redskinsfan1124 , and @arncoem and @baxterbear12 .
Other considerations include making this a regional event, holding part or whole seasons in different PNW locales and providing time to take in the scenery wherever it may be, and perhaps some local haunts. Another potential for the future is to carry forward with the goal of having a dynasty type season setup starting in the 60s like Manyo planned (or perhaps the 20s like my nerdy ass would want) and do a few short seasons a year during the Feb to Jun or July months (like Manyo planned originally for dates on the 3rd Saturday of each month).
Hacks included on Rom: The goal is to have these hacks (mostly for stat purposes) while not affecting any change in the actual game play itself when compared to playing a TSB Season on an actual TSB Cart and NES console.
Tapmeter - Counts and displays taps in man grapples.
Play Preseason Games in Season-Mode - Allows us to play in preseason yet still have stats kept, and use the Season Mode space for the other hacks we need (if I'm not mistaken).
Injuries in ALL Modes - Toggles injuries for our set up playing our games as Preseason Games in Season Mode
No Fumbles in End Zone - To prevent loss of stats. This may be adjusted if it's possible to hack the game to allow End Zone fumbles (cuz the feeling of forcing one is SO DELICIOUS) without losing the stats. Still waiting for an answer to that question.
Keep Quarter Scores Intact if game goes to OT - If this hack is not included, then the scoreboard on the recap page does not accurately display the scores in each quarter, as you can see here in these epic (and only) OT contests from Season 1 involving @invader_star64 . Here vs @DT. http://www.pnw.puretecmo.com/main/dsp_recap.php?gID=40 and then here in an elimination game vs @Tick http://www.pnw.puretecmo.com/main/dsp_recap.php?gID=46
Track Fumbles - Shows each teams number of fumbles and fumbles lost in the recap.
Track Time of Possession - Allows us to see Time of Possession for each team in the recap. We found a bug in this one because it uses space that we are using that online leagues do not, which causes BUF QB1 (John Elway in our Season 1 rom tests) to accumulate weird stats when not even playing any games, like lots of passes and 100% completion rate of those passes for very minimal yards and TDs and a TON of INTS. So the set commands will be a little different for our league. Will update when fixed. edit: it's been fixed but there's not code posted about it.
Recording Tackles - Tackle stats on recap and stat pages.
Player 2 Conditions Fix - Fixes the display of attributes to match the conditions for P2.
Randomize Sound Loop Used for Each Play - Randomizes the sound or music for each play. Playoff music can occur on any play.
Other potential hacks are in the works, however none are meant to affect gameplay. Mostly they will be for additional stats. I'm hoping to be able to track some other things like JJs, CCs, picked plays, Yards after Catch, maybe individual player's fumble stats, JJ ints thrown and caught, Passes Defensed. Forced fumbles and fumble recoveries. Not sure how much we can fit and logistically do before this season, but hopefully we get a good deal of them.
How this will work: First of all a lot of thanks and gratitude must go out to the Godfather @Knobbe and @davefmurray for their contributions in ensuring this site meets the needs of all our tecmo brethren. Much thanks also to all those who share how to hack this in such a way we can enjoy it in this fashion. @jstout has shared so much (and was always very helpful when I would bug him about stuff a couple years back) and @bruddog for basically being the shining beacon of hope that allows us to not only approach doing this, but get the support to troubleshoot and basically provide so much of his time and resources so generously. Much thanks and praises also to @brookstonfowler for his help with our CFT Phile.
Getting Started with the Regular Season: The way we are able to do this is through using the rom created with aforementioned hacks on an Everdrive. We start by using the initial rom on all the Everdrives SD cards for week 1 and playing in preseason. I'm not sure if we need to set Team Control for each team to Man in the Season Game menu for our regular season games, but we will have to for the playoffs. After each game, a state is taken from the Everdrive and the ED's SD card is pulled. From the SD card, the state is saved to the CPU, then run through an Everdrive State Converter (linked below) which converts the state to a Nestopia like state which can then be uploaded to our Website (CFT Phile). Each Save State from Week 1 (in its Everdrive form I believe) is then merged with the other Save States from Week 1, one at a time (to the previously merged save state) using a tool Bruddog "whipped up" and the final version (Rom aka Save State) after all the Week 1 states are merged will be labeled as our Week 2 rom, and then copied to the ED's SD cards to be used for Week 2's games. This process will be used all the way through the completion of the regular season. Regular season stats and standings will be available to peruse on the rom and cartridge itself, as well as on the CFT Phile website, which will be updated with each game uploaded right after completion. There were some logistical concerns and flat out problems in our efforts for season 1 that will inform how we make season 2 and beyond happen. Problem number 1 was that we were unable to get the merges to work properly and consistently during the first season and the reasons included a lack of familiarity with best practices for making saves visible on the SD card and then trying to make a lot of this stuff work without allowing enough time to test it out before Game Day. Luckily we were able to manage to get the saves to show on the SD card using the knowledge we had (basically, after saving the state with a Select and Start button push, the state saved would not actually be saved on the SD card itself until a different rom was loaded). The end result was that we essentially played every game in season 1 with the same rom, but for each game, the rom's name was changed to include the week number and teams involved in order to ensure each file was named to clearly describe what it held. I also used a protocol for saving and converting these states for upload that included the creation of file folders for each week and game, and in each game's folder was an extra folder for the actual converted to nestopia state format since the names of both pre and post converted states were identical. Long story short, I was creating a lot of the folders while also going forward with the conversions and uploads and there was a lot of wait time for everyone else before the next set of games could be played. My plan to improve the logistics include having all the folders created for each week before hand, as well as to have extra SD cards so that when, for instance, the first 3 or 4 games of a given week are played, those SD cards can be pulled from the Everdrives and be replaced with other SD cards that have the rom for the rest of that week's games on them while the work to convert, upload and merge is being done. I'll also try to incorporate more help from guys there so it doesn't have to be just me doing the file work. @invader_star64 helped out a lot last season, and I think we can get a crack team to make it as efficient as possible and minimizing wait times between weeks.
Everdrive State Converter - Converts Everdrive state to one that matches Nestopia states and thus can be read and uploaded to our Phile.
Merge Tool - I don't have a link for this but we use it to be able to carry conditions and injuries over from week to week as well as be able to see the complete season stats with the Rom on the Everdrive in the NES itself.
PLAYOFFS??!?!? - For the playoffs, the final rom save after all the final week's mergers are done will be hacked to put the teams in their respective places in the Playoff Bracket that Tecmo Super Bowl console seasons utilize. I saw this in action yesterday and about flipped my lid. In this case the Team Control in Season Game menu needs to have all the playoff teams set to Man. Once this rom is loaded, no changes need to be added to it. The two potential logistical issues I foresee and want to get in front of are: 1. How can we ensure that we are able to get a state that we can upload from the end of each playoff game? and 1A. If we do pull the SD card to convert and upload the playoff save state after each playoff game, how can we do this without making the wait in between games too long? I know there is a way to create files on the Everdrive that can serve as placeholders (and using efficient nomenclature) for save states so that one can choose which file on the SD Card to save the current SRAM to. I'm hesitant to trust this method without ensuring we have a good save to upload before moving on to the next playoff game. I guess my thinking is we can save that SRAM to the file and pull it out quick, copy it to another SD card and use the next SD card for the next game while we work on converting and uploading the state for the just completed playoff game. (Having the actual SD card not being used by the current playoff game being played will make it easier to pop the card (in its Everdrive) in to the NES and "push" the save to the SD card, using the methodology from season 1. I apologize for this last bit of rambling (stream of consciousness) We will work it out.

Wow! What a great tournament everyone! We set a new GBLAN/Edge Tecmo attendance record at 28, for a warm up tournament! Congrats to JoeyGats on his first GBLAN tournament victory! Green Majik took 2nd, and NMUFred took the D2 Championship prize home! Thanks to all of our sponsors and players for making it a great night!
More coverage from Venture Wisconsin will follow in the days and weeks ahead! I'll provide a more formal recap as time permits, as the dust settles, and we return to normal life once again.

When I think about Tecmo Jam Cleveland 2019 I get so excited I have trouble breathing.
It's a goal of mine to spread the Jam love as much as I can this year. At each Tecmo tourney I go to, I hope to bring a Jam TE Genesis set-up. For added flavor, my friend @Dan S and I run a challenge where we take any and all contenders. We offer our opponents a tier advantage, but if they play us straight up they can win money off of us. So far it has been fun to see the interest there is out there for Jam.
Another goal I have is to do a video series on the Retro Sports Gamer channel (@allamerican1569) called NBA Jam Rules. I'll be doing play-throughs of NBA Jam and NBA Jam TE on both SNES and GEN. I'll be offering tips and promoting the Jam tourneys this year -- Tecmo Jam Cleveland and Tecmo XV in New York.
@TecmoClevelandif you need any help spreading the word, let me know. You can also find me at Joseph Readitnweep Moore on FB.

I have thoughts. First off, it was great to get back to hanging and playing with the fellas. Ultimately, this is what I look forward to the most. I really enjoyed the format, up until the choices for the playoffs got real cheesedicky. Here's a recap of my day.
Spent most of Friday ( a day off ) working on the stream setup and overlay. The sound on the stream was fine but my laptop had some kind of Sound error for output that ended up having me spend hours on it until late in the night when I quit and watched the end of day 14 of Hatsu Basho 2019, and then the incredible Women's final in the Aussie Open . In bed late.
Wake up and already had most everything packed but still got off to a late start leaving Tacoma (my bad), but I did end up bringing some larger TVs and some systems to the party.
Arrive and briefly catch up with the crew while unloading the Forester. Great to see 91 Huskies, JBrooks, and GRIP again, it had been since July or before since seeing any of these fools. Sad that Stu and 6Killer couldn't make it. But I was mostly busy setting up so we could get started.
Finally get set up and parked my car and now we ready to roll after DT gave some "description" as to what was going to go down. I learn that if I won I could secure Yokozuna status. This had a YUGE impact on me. Mentally tried to get dialed in and...
Game 1 Week 11 vs PTitteri - I win toss and the best choices are TB DET, KC RAMS, CHI MIN, and ATL WAS. I choose DET TB and pete takes Barry. So I tried to get dialed in and... I get waxed. I lost like 17-3, and it should have been way worse. I threw 3 picks with Vinny and if not for getting a couple of fumbles, this would have been (well really it was) a total demolition. GG Pete.
Game 2 Week 12 vs Invaderstar - Vader wins toss and selects DEN KC. I take DT and he's in excellent. So were the Tecmo Gods favor towards me again, this time I'm able to use their divine gifts to secure a win. Sorry about the shit luck Vader. Vader was pretty down, I think starting 0-2, but he turned this around after this game. 21-13 Chiefs, thanks to a DT blocked XP on Denvers 1st TD as well.
Game 3 Week 13 vs XtraLargent - He wins and calls DAL WAS. I take Dallas and both of his QBs are in bad. I giggle and said something funny about the status of his QBs. I had a good game. DAL 21- WAS 3.
Game 4 Week 14 vs Gripsmoke - I win toss and while there are some solid matchups in this round, I take WAS RAMS, a matchup I really despise. Or maybe Grip called this one? I think I called it and he picked the RAMS and Everett and Green were in EXC. I got stomped. 44 -14. Played bad and Grip OWNED. GG
Game 5 Week 15 vs XtraLargent - Grip wins toss in his game vs PTitteri and calls IND NE. for once I want to win the coin toss, but XL does and he does NOT call IND NE like I request. He picks CIN MIA and I take Danny Boy. I don't remember much about this game but the final says 35 -7. I'm sure I got some cheesedick luck in here somewhere, but I was peak Donkey in my own mind at this point, playing THE SUPREME DONKEY. GG
Game 6 Week 16 vs GRIP AGAIN - I'm really pissed that we play week 14 and 16 when we could have played IND NE like we ALWAYS do in Week 15, but the Torikumi did not support us this day. Of course I win the toss and there's not a lot of enticing matchups this week. Somehow I thought I was slick and picked SD MIA, really hoping that Grip would take SD, but little did I realize (because my own fault) that Butts was hurt. There's no way Grip takes SD with the uncertainty of Butts status for this game. He takes MIA and Butts DOES come back. A really tight game 17-10 late looks worse on the final score 26-10 after I got a key stop on an outtap (grip claims, I thought I had a drone stand up from losing a grapple on the line of scrimmage and help) on 4th and short where we met in the hole. I get a score and grip takes a safety. This was a key game (or so I thought) because we were both 3-2 coming in. GG Grip
Game 7 Week 16 vs PTitteri - Pete wins the toss and calls KC RAI. I know I need to win this to secure a bye in the bracket, and hopefully hand Pete his first L of the day. The man was on a mission. I take KC because DT and really I won because Jay Schroeder, even in solid condition, sucks balls. Multiple wide open doinks, and I pull it out, 34-21, securing the 2 seed and a bye.
Playoffs - I get winner of JoeyB vs JBrooks, and Joey handles his business with the young buck who was having a rough time. The kid did great man. But Joey is solid and so it goes. I win the toss and the options are less than stellar. THE best matchup of the 4 in the divisional round is CIN SEA. The other Options were RAI BUF, GB CHI, and WAS SF. I throw CIN SEA as I don't trust that I could stop the BILLS with the Raiders D, and despite a rocky start am able to hold on 17-10.
Playoffs Rd 2 - I play grip and I'm about to lose my shit, because I won the toss and my 2 choices are SEA BUF and GB SF. After a while, I select SEA BUF before DT intervenes because we should only be in the divisional round according to his calculations. So played on a different cart THANK GOD. I have a MIA BUF option and choose it. Grip takes BUF and finds QB BILLS, and Thurmal in EXC. Reed too I think? and his LBs were on point too. I am able to get an early fumble, but Grip gets a ridonk CC to end the half tied 21 21. 2nd half I'm forced to punt and he scores and then I throw a pick to Kelso needing to score. GG BUF 35-MIA 28.
I'm a little perturbed at this point because winning the toss seemingly meant losing in the most crucial part of this tourney. It happens again after I wait out Joey vs Invader. Joey pulls out the W and my choices are BUF HOU or CHI NO. I would rather not give Joey a good QB, so I select CHI NO and it pays off. It almost didn't, because Joey was still pulling some magic from an excellent Tomczak to good and excellent twins Morris and Davis WRs. I hang on for a 17-14 win.
Pete had to take off because it was so late and he had JBrooks with him and had to drive back home to PTown, so I essentially got a bye past him.
I played the loser of DT vs GRIP, with the chance to play the winner in the finals. We agreed on playing out on the SF HOU super bowls that were left (there were 2). I won the coin toss so DT had SF. I lost 13-7 even though I got 2 key fumbles late, there was zero connection downfield when it counted for Warren Moon, so 3rd place it was.
Great time. Look forward to another Honbasho with perhaps the higher seed getting to call whether they call matchup? Or some other fix for the final rounds.
I ended up packing the car and giving Grip a ride to his car and friend's spot in Burien then head home to catch the final bouts of Senshuraku of Hatsu 2019. Tamawashi wins the Yusho, his first at age 34, pretty impressive, and his wife gave birth to his 2nd child on the same day.
Then I watch the Aussie Open Men's final. I stan for Rafa, but damn he was thoroughly dominated by the Djoker, probably the most impressive I've EVER seen him, and that's saying something.
Great to see everyone again. Didn't get to say by to @XtraLargent so that sucked. Until July I guess? CFT! CFT! CFT! PNW TECMO RULZ!
