I'm pretty sure as long as the guy receiving the pitch is behind him, he can pitch it at any part of the field. But if he does cross the LOS and he is ahead of him. Yeah, it's an illegal forward pass. I LOVE THE CONTROLLED OPTION PITCHES! AWESOME MAN! Any chance we could see it out of another formation, like the Flex bone?

Have you tried double clicking on a player and his text? It opens up a little window which is just like the old managers.
