  1. cxrom, This is really cool. A couple questions: 1) Do the numbers we enter in for FG%, FT% and 3FG% affect the player's accuracy from 2, the line and 3pts? Or do they not matter at all? 2) How do we improve players' defense outside of steals and blocks? 3) What effect does "Stamina" have? 4) Can we influence passing or ball-handling skills at all? Thanks!
  2. Hey all, I've updated cxrom's 2007 1.0.5 rom to have the most up-to-date rosters possible. Ratings are on the conservative side, and you're welcome to tweak them as you like. I figure people would rather have things too "vanilla" than too wacky. I've kept DB HP down for the most part save for guys like Polamalu, Winfield and Woodson. PC and REC are more under control than they are in the original rom. DLs are a little stronger than the original. For teams with QB controversies, the starter is the guy currently seen as the favorite (Sanchez, Quinn, Culpepper, Hill), and just a little better than his backup. Races and numbers should be largely accurate. Depth charts are from sports.yahoo.com plus research on things like Denver's 3-4 conversion. Have fun! TSB 2009.zip
  3. First of all, is this with the original rom or the 1990 one? Washington above Chicago? What's wrong with the Bears' D? How are the Fins doing so well on Defense? How is Dallas hanging in there? Sounds like a very surprising season all around.
  4. Bears C Olin Kreutz is white. You have three DEs on the Bears' D and only one DT (Harris). Is this what you want? Although to be fair the spot opposite Harris has been a revolving door- wasn't Darwin Walker the other starter? Danieal Manning and Adam Archuleta have been filp-flopped; Manning playes FS and Archuleta plays SS. It's Ryan Grant RB #25 of the Packers, not "Brian." Excellent work!
  5. It's classic old-time Tecmo Bowl, but with the rosters of the 2008 playoff teams! Everyone uses the singleback formation, since LA's pro-set is crippled. No one uses the stupid end-arounds. I made a couple other changes to the playbooks to balance things out. I've attached a file with QB, RB, WR, TE, KR, K, and P ratings so that you don't have to comb the rom or use the Tecmo Bowl Manager to find the ratings. The player ratings are derived from analysis (http://www.footballoutsiders.com, si.com, espn.com) as well as popular perception (nfl.com/probowl) and my totally subjective opinions. Thanks to: http://www.geocities.com/cpa68/ratings.html http://www.emuware.com/tbm/index.php http://www.tecmobowl.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8535 I welcome any feedback you may have. 6. The Big Ten (OSU, Michigan, Illinois, MSU, Wisconsin), the Big 12 (Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas), and the SEC (Florida, Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia, LSU) are all updated to their 2007 rosters. I'm not sure I have Texas' defensive roster correct, and I may have flip-flopped right and left DTs and DEs on other teams. None of the helmet logos have been changed (thus Missouri has Nebraska's helmet, Kansas has Texas A&M's, Tennessee has Auburn's, MSU has PSU's and Illinois has ND's). Feedback on ratings would be greatly appreciated. I reserved 63 MS for McFadden and 56 MS for the other Doak Walker semifinalists. tecmo ncaa 07 bcs b10-b12-sec.zip
  7. the 100 in 10.02?! But "game speed" (real life and Tecmo) is different. I'm not sure how to treat really fast guys like Hester and Cribbs in the pros. In any case, I've been putting off the SEC because I'm not sure whether to include Auburn or Arkansas. Florida, LSU, and Georgia are all obviously in, as is Tennessee on account of rankings. Auburn is ranked higher than Arkansas, but I imagine most people would rather play with the ridiculous Arkansas backfield than an anonymous Auburn team.
  8. This rom is great- I can see the hard work that went into making it- even faces got attention payed to them. Attached is the old rom with some roster updates to most of the Big 10 (Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois (which replaces Notre Dame)) and to some of the SEC (Florida, Georgia, LSU). I don't know how to change the helmets, so Illinois still gets ND's helment, since it took ND's spot. Names, races and jersey numbers should all be accurate. I tried to get faces sort of right for everyone but the O-Line. Since I'm an Illinois fan, I haven't seen much SEC football so I'm not up to date on who the latest defensive stars there are. Well, besides Dorsey. Ratings are guided by awards and stats (especially overall defense for defensive players and sacks taken and team rushing YPC for O-line) and my guesswork. I tried to keep QB MS down (the legitimate running threats Tim Tebow and Juice Williams have 31) and CB HP under control so that WRs can actually sustain their blocks. Backup Tailbacks have MS less than or equal to the starting Tailback's MS, similarly most backup WRs have MS less than or equal to the slowest starter's MS. Backup WRs have REC ratings of no less than 38. Ball Control is bumped way up like the original, but I don't know where to get fumble data so everyone gets good BC. The only weird stuff happening with rosters is that Garrett Graham of Wisconsin, a very undersized TE, is lined up at WR4. Jeff Cumberland of Illinois converted from TE to WR during the season and gets the fourth starting WR spot. If anyone (especially non-Big 10 fans) has suggestions or helpful criticism, I'd welcome that. If you want to update another conference, that's cool too. tecmo ncaa 07 bcs draft.zip
  9. ... with TSB plays: http://www.collegegameballs.com/2007/09 ... -playbook/
  10. Well, going by numbers posted here: http://www.geocities.com/cpa68/players.html (and comments here: http://www.geocities.com/cpa68/all-tecmo.html) which are accurate according to the Tecmo Bowl Manager, it's something like qb Marino rb Jackson wr Rice, Clark McMichael is better than Carter but doesn't play nt the rest of your team is right on.
  11. We still counting coaching staff? Hardy Nickerson is the new Bears LB coach.
  12. wow, impressive stuff! one small issue- the "hut hut hut" sound doesn't sound like "hut hut hut" anymore. but perhaps there's something wrong with my emulation (fceu).
  13. Dent is rated at 17 sacks, and Doleman at 20? Things have changed. Still, nice to see the classic rejuvenated, even in a slightly different form.
  14. http://www.tecmobowl.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9235 What happens to the game when teams are removed of their crippled plays (or in LA's case, crippled playbook)? When Minnesota and Washington lose their reverses? When LA switches to singleback to give Bo two properly-blocked runs? How would the changed teams stack up against the unchaged teams? How far do they shoot up in the power rankings? Do NYG/CHI/SF have to worry about their status as the elite teams? (And man, does Dallas fall to the bottom or what?) (I guess this is technically about a different game than original Tecmo Bowl, since the changed plays make things very different, but the other teams are unchanged, and this forum's activity level seems kind of low)
  15. Yeah, #86 Mervyn Fernandez now lines up at bottom WR. I gave him "good" WR stats (ie, like Gault, Bouza, and company). I'm aware that Allen could catch, but did he ever line up as a WR, or was he just an RB who was good at catching the football? Because if he was ever a WR, I'd swap him in in a jiffy, but barring a miraculous hacking of the LA run 1 play, we have to stay with the singleback formation, and you can only have one RB in singleback. And I guess I could put in Allen and give LA a half-back dump, but I think I'd prefer 2 Bo runs.
  16. Bump for rather significant new version! Read all about it up top.
  17. Bump, because I've updated the ROM to v2, replacing LA's pro set pass plays for normal singleback plays. Read all about it and download the latest version up top.
  18. Updated 5th of April- shanfu0's 2006-07 Tecmo Bowl "Highly Unofficial" mod Version 3.1: "Now with 38.7% more color!" What's New in Version 3.1? (from v3) - NY Jets DE Bryan Thomas #99 gets moved from Top OLB (what?) to RE, replacing Van Oelhoffen who's a DT anyhow. The LBs are shifted and SS Eric Coleman #26 comes in to play LB, so from top to bottom the Jets LBs are now: Hobson, Barton, Vilma, Coleman. - Lots of personnel changes. Among the most important ones: All 8- and 9- speed offensive linemen are dialed down to 7. New Orleans WR Devery Hederson's speed is reduced to 9. Tom Brady gets a substantial boost in arm strength and other QBs get small changes. NYG P Jeff Feagles gets his kicking ability boosted to 7 from 6. - Uniforms are changed to better correspond to teams' actual uniforms: The Jets get a shade of green that's close enough to the actual shade of green on their uniforms, one that's different from both the grass and the Eagles' dark green. Dallas now wears white uniforms with grey/silver helmets, as the Patriots ditch their retro garb and get their normal blue and silver. - End zones now have color! Colors sort of correspond to team color, although I've made them a little lighter than their team's colors to improve visibility. - Various other minor corrections, of which I can only remember that I corrected the jersey numbers for the Eagles' DBs Dawkins and Sheppard. (from v2) - The entire New Orleans (formerly LA) playbook has been thrown in the dumpster as a result of the pro set bug where the top OLB is unblocked on both runs. The new run plays are from Baltimore (formerly Dallas)'s playbook, while the new pass plays are from San Diego (formerly Seattle)'s playbook, giving New Orleans a strong playbook for dangerous personnel. As a result of the playbook change from pro set to singleback, the NO personnel was changed. Reggie Bush is gone, Deuce McAlister handles the run plays, Devery Henderson is now in the top WR slot, and Marques Colston comes in to serve in the bottom WR slot. TE Mark Campbell is still present. Because New Orleans is still LA in disguise, albeit with a different playbook and different personnel, Campbell gets his rating in the form of an RB's yards/TDs, not a reciever's receptions. See "Issues" for more on this quirk, which does not affect gameplay. - Out of whimsy and as a retro reference to original TB, I've bundled a little "Team Descriptions" file with the ROM and readme. Don't take it seriously. (from v1) - Tweaked some player statistics and ratings, corrected some typos. Most notably Baltimore gets Pro Bowl S Ed Reed, New England gets Corey Dillon at RB, Giants LB Antonio Pierce gets a major stat boost, and the Bears' D-line is toned down. - Seattle (previously Minnesota)'s playbook had different formations for running and passing. This is now corrected, using different running plays from the same formation as the passing formation. - Minor edits to the starting screens to credit me and reflect that this is absolutely not a licensed product of any kind. Also, the post- Super Bowl "victory" rosters now reflect the fact that they are 2007 rosters. Highlights - Player "ratings" (Sacks/Ints/TDs/etc.) are not the real-life totals, but numbers designed to give an accurate indication of their ability just like in normal Tecmo Bowl. No memorization of NFL rosters necessary. Eg: Brian Urlacher (CHI) has a rating of 19 sacks to represent his tremendous speed and hitting power, though he had 0 sacks on the season. Stephen Gostkowski (NWE) has a rating of 54% FG accuracy to indicate his weakness relative to the top kickers like Adam Vinatieri (IND). In the 06-07 season, Gostkowski's accuracy was 77%. - Tecmo game-mechanics stats given to players (Max Speed, Inital Speed, Hitting Power, etc.) are guided by the complete Tecmo Bowl Ratings Spreadsheet found here: http://www.geocities.com/cpa68/ratings.html - for example, Urlacher acts almost identically like Singletary, or Asante Samuel (NWE) acts like Dave Duerson. Not everyone is a carbon-copy of someone else, though. - Team colors that correspond to real-life colors, albeit to varying degrees. - "NFL"-labeled End Zones, replacing "MIA," "DEN," etc. and most importantly: - No more WR reverse! Kansas City (previously Washington) and Seattle (previously Minnesota) get improved playbooks, with generic runs replacing their reverses, thus making both teams competitive. - No more crippled Pro Set playbook! New Orleans (previously LA) gets an all new playbook because the pro set runs are crippled and because having two formations would key a defender in on whether NO is going to pass or run. Playbook (and Defense Formation) Assignments (Old - New) Indy - New England Miami - Indy Cleveland - Philadelphia Denver - NY Jets Seattle - San Diego "LA" * - New Orleans SF - Dallas Washington - Kansas City Dallas - Baltimore New York - NY Giants Chicago - Chicago Minnesota - Seattle (* But not really. NO is two parts Old Dallas, two parts Old Seattle, and 0 parts old LA, as I note all over this file) Playbook Changes -Seattle (Min) gets Generic Weak-Side (eg. New England (Ind) Run 1) for Run 1 and Generic Strong-Side (eg. Philly (Cle) Run 2) for Run 2 to replace the AWFUL REVERSE and to ensure the same formation for all plays. -Kansas City (Wash) gets Generic Strong-Side Run for Run 2 to replace the AWFUL REVERSE. -New Orleans (LA) gets Baltimore (Old Dallas)'s Generic Strong-Side Run 1 and Abstract Weak-Side Run 2 to replace the crippled Pro Set running plays. They also get San Diego (Old Seattle)'s Pass 1 and Pass 2 to replace the pro set formation running plays, to ensure that NO operates out of one formation. Issues - Balance is presumably atrocious, although the removal of the WR reverse and complete removal of the Pro Set issue helps greatly. - Most players, especially defensive ones, are probably overrated by my guesswork. Oh well. On the other hand, it makes for more power. - In some cases, I was forced to turn a 4-3 defense into a 3-4 defense. I took the statistically-best tackle and made him the NT, then hoped I could use a CB to become an OLB without disrupting the players in the "saftey" position. In no case was there a major crisis. - Occasionally, the "F" in the "NFL" in the end zones gets covered up with grey. No effect on gameplay though. - I can't change the end zone colors, but I'd frankly rather see "NFL" and have a grey end zone then see "MIA," "CLE," "DEN," etc. and have colored ones. - For some reason, the game wouldn't let me put the entire word "Indianapolis" in, so I shortened it to "Indy." - There are almost no changes to the offensive linemen besides name, number, and (when applicable) race. Not that most people would notice. - I would like to change the colors in image of a player the "Tecmo Sports News" screen displayed at the end of every game to the new team colors, but I don't know how to accomplish this. A very minor wish. - The NO tight end and the legacy of LA: Because of the way Tecmo lists LA's personnel and the differences between the pro set and the singleback formation, TE Campbell has RB-style ratings. This is unavoidable without major hacking. Because remember, original LA has two RBs and two recievers (one WR and one TE). Now LA, or "New Orleans," has one RB and three recievers like normal. To make a long story short, Campbell takes the slot that was used by Marcus Allen (Reggie Bush in v2), which is an RB in the pro set, but TE in singleback, but the ratings for that slot are yards and touchdowns. I've given Campbell some dreary stats to recognize the fact that he's your typical unspectacular Tecmo TE. I figure this one minor imperfection is easily worth the exchange for two sensibly-blocked runs and one universal formation for New Orleans. 19. Not to double-post, but a recent PM from Tecmo-Mad Brad makes me wonder- would you rather LA have a split singleback-running and pro set-passing playbook OR have an all-singleback playbook, but with no Marcus Allen? (Who would be the other LA WR, then? And how good would he be? I personally know nothing about such things.) Or does someone have crazy hacking skills sufficient to change the programmed blocking schemes so Bo's not screwed over? As Tecmo-Mad Brad said via PM,
  20. shanfu0's "Highly Unofficial" original Tecmo Bowl mod Version 2: "No more pro set" What's New in v2? - The end of the pro set! In the interest of not having a formation give-away for pass and run plays, and in light of the TOLB not getting blocked on the original pro set run 1, which started all this mess, all of LA's plays have been exchanged for singleback-low formation plays. That means no more Marcus Allen, but it means the great Tim Brown will be seeing a lot more action in the top WR spot. In the bottom WR spot, there's a new kid on the block called Mervyn Hernandez. On par with the Willie Gaults of the Tecmo World, Hernandez will provide solid play on the rare occasions he gets the ball. See the issues section if you're weirded out by Christensen's new different rating system. Highlights - The end of the reverse! Minnesota and Washington are finally liberated from their terrible reverse plays. - Bo Knows real blocking schemes! Los Angeles' crippled Run 1 and Run 2 are exchanged for normal single-back runs. - No more pro set passes for LA, so that LA operates out of one single formation. Allen is gone, Tim Brown takes the top WR spot, deadly Todd Christensen still plays TE and the new Mervyn Hernandez moves into the bottom WR spot. - No modifications have been made to player attributes, ratings, team colors or the like, except for the changes to LA: Hernandez is all new, but Brown and Christensen's stats have not been altered. Brown has been moved up top, and Hernandez slides in at the bottom. Brown and Christensen's ratings have been changed in the interest of accuracy for Brown and because of something weird about LA* that doesn't change gameplay for Christensen. There are no other changes to any personnel, and no other playbook changes besides the aforementioned reverse replacement and LA overhaul. - Minor edits to the starting screens to credit me and reflect that this is absolutely not a licensed product of any kind. (* - see the "Issues" section) Playbook Changes - Minnesota gets Indianapolis' Run 1 and Run 2 to replace its sweep and reverse. - Washington gets Cleveland's Run 2 to replace its reverse. - Los Angeles gets Dallas' Run 1 and Run 2 to replace its irregular pro set runs. In the interest of using one singleback formation, LA gets Dallas' pass 1 and New York's pass 2. (One bad pass and one good pass) Issues - Because of the way Tecmo lists LA's personnel and the differences between the pro set and the singleback formation, LA's Christensen has RB-style ratings. This is unavoidable without major hacking. Because remember, original LA has two RBs and two recievers (one WR and one TE). Now LA has one RB and three recievers like normal. To make a long story short, Christensen takes the slot that was used by Allen, which is an RB in the pro set, but TE in singleback, but the ratings for that slot are yards and touchdowns. Hopefully we all remember that Christensen is a dangerous man, second only to Mark Bavaro at TE. I figure this one minor imperfection is easily worth the exchange for two sensibly-blocked Bo runs and one universal formation for LA.
