  1. Face=0xbb is another one not used for any player. Check this thread for typical TBorg shenanigans about this face, and others:

    https://tecmobowl.org/forums/topic/55041-updating-tecmo-faces/

Face=0x24 is an almost identical white face, except it's a little wider. It is used for 5 players, including, of course, at least one Latino, Max Montoya. Maybe the programmers couldn't decide whether to use a white face or black face for Montoya? ?

  2. This is a special Hair of the Day edition. Knobbe once called this particular image "Montana hair," but there are actually two slightly different hairstyles that look like this, and this one isn't Montana's. This is Steve DeBerg hair. Check out DeBerg and Montana side-by-side:

And now for fun, as always, some photos. Here's Joe Cool himself, DeBerg, Jim McMahon (I can't find a photo of McMahon that looks anything like this face), Karl Mecklenburg, and Gary Anderson:

  3. Face=0xce is the Fridge's face, and another one of my favorite "big guy" faces. It's also Keith Jackson. Quite a good pair of players. I'm including a very interesting video I never saw before about what led to the Fridge playing RB and scoring a rushing TD in the Super Bowl. Long story short, you can thank Bill Walsh. (I once experimented with putting Perry in as a 100hp RB in TSB. On defense he was William Perry, on offense he was The Refrigerator. It was great fun.) The link to the video is below the photos:

I was really into this like 5  years ago but then just had other stuff come up and didn't come back to it.

Tecmo takes pieces and combines them to make the faces. Thus I think the easiest thing to do would be to identify the pieces that apply to outdated hairstyles and then replace them.

Yeah, I could see that. One thing I would want to do if I felt more inclined is to get more variety for beaded faces. Everybody has a beard today and there's only like half a dozen options. Put different eyes and different hair on the beards, so you don't end up giving like every offensive lineman that one face with the beard that looks normal, or whatever.

  6. Today's face is Bob Golic:

This face was made specifically for Bob, probably because of his unique look, as it is not used for any other players. This is the face I would usually use for myself because of the hair and beard. When I'm depressed, I would use this face:

  7. Random silly idea. I'm going to share one face a day that I like for whatever reason, with whatever info and thoughts I have about the player(s) and the face. I'll also share a real pic of the player(s) (unless the face is not used for any player) for comparison. First up is Face=0x00:

This is the first face in the rom. For some reason it is not used for any players. If you make some kind of error entering faces in Tool, it usually defaults to this face. The first black face is identical and is used for 8 players, Face=0x80:

  8. I'm bumping this because it's all very interesting, but I'm not sure what to do with it. Was the end vision some type of Tool program where you can load a rom, and then select face features for each player instead of whole faces? Has anyone actually developed something like that?

Aside from that, how else would one utilize all the info presented here? I think I could figure out how to change individual face parts to create new faces if I wanted, but it seems like more trouble than it's worth. When I have edited roms, I've usually been able to find faces that are close enough to most players. My issue has always been that similar faces are not near each other in editors, so it's sometimes difficult finding the face I want. I'm currently rearranging the existing faces in an Excel sheet to deal with that. When I'm done, it should be easier finding faces on my sheet than in the editors.

The original TSB Manager has the faces in BMP form as part of its program

Damnit, I knew that. I wish I checked this thread two weeks ago, it would have saved me a lot of time. I was already almost half done, I would have been finished by now. Thanks for posting this here.

  10. I figured out how to crop them fairly quickly. I've started the spreadsheet. Here's the first 10 faces I made. You can see I'm already starting to group similar faces together. I noticed faces 0x00 and 0x02, which you can see in editors, are not actually used for any players. It looks like face 0x02 might have been Jim Kelly before they realized they couldn't use his likeness. Pretty funny to realize that after all this time, if that is the case.

    BUF. LG Jim Ritcher.jpg

    BUF. NT Jeff Wright.jpg

    MIA. QB1 Dan Marino.jpg

    G.B. QB2 Anthony Dilweg.jpg

  11. I have that. That's all one picture. I would like to get each individual face as a separate thumbnail. I want to be able to rearrange them so I can put similar faces near each other, like in a folder or in a spreadsheet. I'm in the process of taking screen caps of each player screen, but then I have to crop it to get just the face. It's going to be a long, painstaking process. I was hoping someone already had thumbnails of these just sitting on their computer, or that there was a topic on the forum that I missed or didn't understand.

  12. Thanks for getting back. I just noticed that the playbooks are weirdly altered for some teams. For example, the Bills have a QB run in run slot 2. I don't think that's intentional. I've started using this old rom that gojiphen shared... and I was going to link to the thread but I don't see it anymore. I'm uploading the rom here. I don't know if there are any bugs on this one that haven't been fixed yet, but it's working so far for me.

    T-Borg 20XX Base ROM.nes

  13. The 32-team base rom on this site always freezes when I try to play it. Does anyone have a fully functional 32-team rom that can be edited in Tool, with no other hacks? Thanks.

  14. The vanilla version of this is looking close to the base rom I want, but I noticed you did something to the playbooks. Do you happen to still have a functional base rom where the playbooks have not been changed at all? Thanks.

I just want a copy of cxrom's original 32-team rom with no hacks, that doesn't freeze when you try to play it.

  15. Upon further review, this video is actually very bad. Including this quote:

    >>“I didn’t care too much about positions, I just liked the charismatic players,” Tomie said.<<

    without all of this:

    >>Japan had limited NFL coverage, but Shimoji and Tomie recorded as many games as they could that were shown on Japanese Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) satellite TV.

Those NFL highlights, along with positional statistics delivered from America, and various analyses in “Touchdown PRO” magazine, perhaps the only NFL magazine published in Japan at the time, provided Tomie with the background knowledge needed to create each player’s attributes.

“Because I wanted to use the unique formations and strategies, I often watched the videos in slow motion while rewinding them and jotting down the players’ movements on paper,” Tomie said.

That quote is amazing when you consider Tecmo Super Bowl has 64 different plays. Can you imagine this man, who at one point knew next to nothing about the game, pausing, rewinding, and watching in slow motion as Thurman Thomas takes a direct snap from the shotgun? Taking notes on how many receivers the Oilers split out in their run-and-shoot formations? And remember, NFL cameras follow the action—not a wide view of all 22 players on the field as they finish their routes or blocking assignments.  I’ve been an NFL fan my whole life and I don’t know if I could pull it off.<<

as well as other details in the original interview, does a huge disservice to the work these guys put in and what they accomplished.
