Carther got a reaction from Rick 8bit in Editing Endzones a Tutorial
I have been asked to put up a tutorial to explain the editing of the endzones.
I have made one in an excel document.
If you have any questions let me know and I will answer them if I can.
The document/instructions seem clear to me but may not be to others.

Carther got a reaction from fgqb#19nyj in 3 conferences?
To answer my own question yes it is possible, at least in determinning playoffs. I am using this for my 1966 rom.
a. The problem: In 1966 the NFL had two divisions one with 8 teams and 1 with 7 teams, and you can only display 5 teams on the standings screen in tsb.
b. The solution create three conferences for playoff sorting.
1. The AFL (two division leaders from the afc east and central slots take the two afc championship game slots.
2. The NFL East which takes up both the AFC West and NFC East slots. The top rated teams in these slots are compared and the top team is put into the nfl championship game.
3. The NFL West which takes up both the NFC central and NFC west slots. The top rated teams in these slots are compared and the top team is put into the nfl championship game.
This could also be helpful for college roms where you want the PAC-12 champions and Big Ten champion to automatically meet in a playoff, or SEC East vs. SEC West, etc.
I don't know how you would do this graphically because I have no skill whatsoever at editing graphics.
Here is the file where I made three conferences for the playoffs if anyone wants to see how I did it

Carther got a reaction from fgqb#19nyj in Solving the playoffs code (formerly: "Help needed w/ wild card sorting")
For the wild card, you have to change which team is the first in each conference but you also have to change how many teams are in each conference or how many are to be sorted or some such thing.
The playoff code works as such. (Each conference is sorted separately and you can have more than 2 conferences if you want)
The division winners are determined
The division winners are sorted
The division winners are placed in the brackets
The game takes all of the other teams as determined by the code (this is where your problem is occurring) and sorts them for the wild cards
The wild cards are determined
The wild cards are placed in the brackets
Your rom needs some of the parameters for the wild card sorting changed. I will try to find my notes and take a look at it. I still plan to make a playoff
editing guide at some point in the future but have not had a chance to yet, but it is in my good intentions pile.

Carther got a reaction from chris99 in Coming Soon! 1970 to 1977 Roms
Coming Soon! Carther's TSB roms from 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1977.
1970 is about 95% done, simming perfect, game play awesome, only graphical details to go.
I was going to do them in order, but I am too hyped to be able to give you the worst team in nfl history
the 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, whose coach John Robinson when asked "What do you think of your
team's execution." said, "I'm in favor of it."
I am not a good tecmo player in any remote definition of the word. However I played in preseason mode as the 1969 Dallas
Cowboys against the 76 Buccs and won 70-0. I then played as the QB Steve Spurrier led Buccs and only managed to lose
45-3 still in preseason mode.
So next will be 1976 and then probably back to 1971. When I am finished you will be able to use my roms to play from
Super Bowl I (1966) to Super Bowl XII (1977) the last year of having only 14 games in the regular season and only
4 AFC and 4 NFC teams make the playoffs.
I don't know if I will ever do 1978+ (actually I have teams done for 1979 already) but 1966 - 1977 completes a nice era.
After that you have 1978-1989 the 28 team, 16 games season, 5 playoff teams per conference era.
Anyway. Look for these roms to be coming soon.

Carther got a reaction from adscl84 in Solving the playoffs code (formerly: "Help needed w/ wild card sorting")
I think it is working properly now. I made some adjustments that are hard to explain. There was some messed up code and a few of the numbers in the code for sorting wild cards were off. Test it out and see if it does what you want now.

Carther got a reaction from bruddog in NES TSB Map of Field
I have been asked to create a tutorial on how to edit the NES TSB field. The editing is simple enough once you know the field layout. You can use my endzone editing guide for more detail on how to do the exact editing it is the same as the endzones except there is only one layer of tiles. Here is an explanation about how the field is layed out.
Once again, ask any questions you like, I will answer what I am capable of.
Remember, if a 44 year old with no computer programming experience, no hex editing experience and no tile editing experience can learn to do this, so can you.
You just have to dive in and learn, all the components are here on this website. I have tried to make these tutorials so that even an inexperienced person like myself
can understand them so tell me if you are having problems understanding.

Bart Starr then Aaron Rodgers then Brett Favre. Championships Matter. Starr doesn't have the numbers the other two have but they don't have his championships. Plus when he play they actually used to run the ball.

Carther got a reaction from Martin in How do sim results work in SKP vs SKP
The data supports this. When I use the total sim offense +sim defense from the original nes rom and rank from 1 to 28 and then take the run def rank + pass def rank from the 1990 season from Pro-football-reference and rank 1-28 and compare the two it supports this.
Wow the Bills were over-rated and the Steelers under-rated and the Chargers totally dissed on the original cart but everyone else looks good.

Carther got a reaction from Ghost in Team ranking HEX locations?
For anyone interested the hex locations and explanation for changing team rankings screens:
The first group is for the offense and the second group for defense I believe:
X2397d change from 00 0E to 00 xx (where xx = 1 plus the number of teams in both leagues)
X23980 change from 00 0E to 00 xx (where xx = 1 plus the last team in the afc)
X23985 change from 0E 1C to XX YY (where xx = the first team in the nfc and yy = 1 plus the last team in the nfc)
X23989 change from 00 0E to 00 xx (where xx = 1 plus the number of teams in both leagues)
X2398B change from 00 0E to 00 xx (where xx = 1 plus the last team in the afc)
X23990 change from 0E 1C to XX YY (where xx = the first team in the nfc and yy = 1 plus the last team in the nfc)
Hope this is helpful.
