  1. I've had a perfect season with the Oilers, 49ers, Bills, and Giants, just like I have with the Patriots and the Colts. Of course the latter are far harder to accomplish, but it can be done. What you have to do when you use those bad teams is closely monitor the conditions of your players and move them around in order to maximize their potential (i.e. put your best WR on the top of the screen since that side has the most vertical routes on the pass plays, put your best RB at the RB1 spot, etc). You also need to scout the other teams before the games, which might present a contradiction to what I just said in the last sentence. So let's say, for example, you're facing a team with a bad corner and he's in Bad condition. Slide your best WR to the position that CB guards and attack him. When you run, use perimeter plays because 1) they can expose bad LB's on the outsides and 2) it minimizes lost fumbles. When you pass, only throw it to open WR's. If no one is open, run with the QB towards the sideline and get OOB as soon as a defender is about to kill him. The only time you should ever throw to someone who's covered is a vertical route way downfield. This gives you a chance for a big play if the throw leads him to dive/jump for it, and even if you do throw a pick, it's way down there, which renders it as much of a victory for the defense as a punt. Defensively, don't get too happy with the Lurch. That can kill you when you face teams that like to pull linemen on runs and roll the QB on passes. It can also kill you if their center is that much better than your NT (which is probably a lot when you use the Pats, Colts, Falcons, Cards, etc). You need to figure out who your best defender is and use him in a smart way. The best way to do that is to be able to recognize what teams do out of certain formations. But simply using your best OLB to blitz isn't gonna help you like it would if your were KC or the G-Men, for example. The Patriots do not have LT, the Colts do not have Derrick Thomas, the Falcons don't have Ray Childress, the Cards don't have Greg Lloyd, etc, so don't act like it. You cannot afford to simply sit back and try to "out-talent" your opposition, especially if your goal is 19-0. One last thing about defense: if you are playing against a team that uses the Shotgun C Draw, the T-formation reverse, the T-formation Fake-n-Pitch, or one of those Flea Flickers, call those plays more than any other. That can lead to easy turnovers. The quickest summary to what I just said is "be smart and patient all the time." That means don't get too anxious with trying to get a big play on either side. Move the chains on offense, do what you can to minimize/prevent turnovers, sit back and prevent the big play on defense. The more snaps the other team gets, the more opportunities they have to make dumb mistakes.
  2. Thanks, buck. Haven't tried the hex editor or the PB guide, but the playmaker won't work. I keep getting this JIT error if I try to do anything after loading my ROM. Is there a way to fix this?
  3. I'm new to this customizing stuff and have been having difficulties with the recommended editors here. I need help to make some small, but specific changes to a NES TSB ROM playbook. To give the experts an idea of what I mean by “small, but specific,” here’s what I mean. I’d like to make the following plays available for the following slots. Before I begin, I’d like to create a formation that looks like the standard shotgun set (4 WR’s, 2 on each side, with the RB on the QB’s left if we’re talking Player 1), except that it starts with a trips alignment with the receivers aligned as they are in that under center R and S 3-wing and the inside slot receiver (RB2) going in motion to the other side of the formation and to set where it resembles the original shotgun 2X2 set exactly. In other words I would further like to be able to use this formation on all 8 play slots and for each one of them to have RB1 in the running back position (never to switch to slot receiver). It should therefore be understood that the play descriptions below are from the formation in the image above. For the plays themselves: Run 1: Replacing WTE Offtackle R, the QB receives the shotgun snap, the RB takes a handoff by running on a similar course that he would on T Power Sweep R. In other words, he runs in front of the QB and takes the ball from him as he comes right in front. The OL blocks this the same way as T Power Sweep R (guards pull wide and take the biggest threats to the play in that area, other 3 block down and to the right), the Z takes the CB, the “TE” takes the safety, likewise for the two receivers on the backside. Run 2: Replacing Onesetback L, I’d simply like to move Shotgun C Draw (from the Run 4 slot) here, with the one exception being that RB1 is in the backfield and not RB2. Run 3: Shotgun Draw is converted to this new formation Run 4: With RB1 still in the backfield, as in the previous 3 plays described, and replacing the vacated slot from Shotgun C Draw being moved to slot 2, the QB gives the RB a quick handoff and the OL blocks straight downfield (similar to the Onesetback Dive play). Pass 1: Replacing Pro T Screen L, this play should be a replica of R and S Flare C only from this new shotgun formation with no changes in the routes. QB should drop back like he does on the X Drive and Z S-in plays in the 3rd and 4th slots. Pass 2: Replacing WTE F-Flicker, this play should be a replica of R and S Z Fly from the new shotgun formation. The QB doesn’t drop at all and the RB should freeze for a count or two (so as to give the impression it’s the C Draw). Routes stay the same. Pass 3: Shotgun X Drive is converted to this new formation Pass 4: Shotgun Z S-in is converted to this new formation. So, for example, if I wanted to use those modifications in one team’s playbook, it’d look exactly like this, including the designations for the ball carrier on the runs. Any help to reach these ends would be greatly appreciated.
  4. I've downloaded the program and tried to use it for my custom ROM (it's basically the same thing as the original NES version), but I keep getting an error whenever I try to load the ROM into it. It reads "unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. Object reference not set to an instance of an object." Whenever I click "Continue," the same error pops back up and I can't do anything. Anyone know how to fix this?
  5. Hmm, I haven't heard of this. If you right-click on the file in Windows Explorer and choose Properties, is "Read-only" checked in the attributes section at the bottom? If it is, uncheck it and press OK, then try to save again.I've been following these exact steps and still get the same error message. Is there something else that needs to be done? I'm really just trying to make some minor adjustments to the original game (mostly player trades and a few ratings changes, but that's it). It doesn't take me more than 10 minutes to make those changes but that error is of course preventing everything. Thanks
  6. He was probably the best punter of all-time period (except maybe for Guy).
  7. I always referred to Lorenzo White as "Triple F"
  8. Once I played a season with the Giants and finished 16-0. When the Standings page came up, I saw that Buffalo was also 16-0. They made it to the Super Bowl, as did I, and to this day, I've never played a more intense shootout against the CPU than that Super Bowl. Hands down the greatest game I've ever played in all of sports vid. games.
  9. Derrick played his last game at home against the Raiders in 1999. Now that you have brought that to my attention, I will play KC vs. LA asap. RIP DT. You are greatly missed.
  10. All-Star or Pro-Bowl? There's a big dif. An all-star team is just some fantasy team that has no restrictions, and the pro-bowl is kinda self explanitory. My "all-star" team is the best players on the three Run-and-Shoot teams (love that offense). Offense: Warren Moon, Barry Sanders, Drew Hill, Ernest Givins, Haywood Jeffires, Andre Rison, Lomas Brown, Chris Hinton, Bill Fralic, Mike Munchak, and Bruce Matthews. Defense: Sean Jones, Jerry Ball, Mike Gann, Ray Childress, Michael Cofer, Chris Spielman, Jessie Tuggle, Richard Johnson, Deion Sanders, William White, and Ray Crockett. Kicker-Eddie Murray, Punter-Scott Fulhage, My Pro-Bowl teams are: AFC: Offense: Warren Moon, Bo Jackson, Andre Reed, Drew Hill, Ernest Givins, Haywood Jeffires, Richmond Webb, Anthony Munoz, Bruce Matthews, Steve Wisniewski, and Kent Hull. Defense: Bruce Smith, Howie Long, Greg Townsend, Derrick Thomas, Dennis Byrd, Greg Lloyd, Cornelius Bennett, Rod Woodson, Richard Johnson, David Fulcher, and Erik McMillan. Kicker-Nick Lowery, Punter-Mike Horan NFC: Offense: QB Eagles, Barry Sanders, Jerry Rice, Henry Ellard, Andre Rison, Anthony Carter, Luis Sharpe, Stan Brock, Randall McDaniel, mark Bortz, and Jay Hilgenberg. Defense: Reggie White, Chris Doleman, Richard Dent, Lawrence Taylor, Mike Singeltary, Keith Millard, Pepper Johnson, Wayne Haddix, Deion Sanders, Ronnie Lott, and Joey Browner. Kicker-Steve Christie, Punter-Sean Landeta
  11. Houston Oilers. I'm a big spread offense buff, I coach it at the high school level, Warren Moon was my favorite player ever, and I used to live in Texas (OK, Dallas, but the Cowboys made me ill). The receivers are as phenomenal as they were in real life, and the defense is pretty underrated.
  12. I've been once priveleged to have ALL 5 in excellent at the same time (plus I had Childress, Johnson and Kinard excellent as well and my line wasn't any worse than average). I played my roommate with this team and he used nearly every team he could throw at me. I destroyed them all. Houston is very good, but it is absolutely vital to have at least one or two defensive players in excellent to have a chance against anyone.
  13. I've done it with HOU, SF, NYG, BUF, and PHI. Not really that much of a challenge.
