  1. I must have been smokin crack. I totally agree with Carmelhoops27. I couldn't find one argument with his list. He also depended highly on stats which is the best way to go with a poll like this. I still think Marino should be in the top 15 but it would be tough to argue him over QB Eagles/Bills and Joe Cool. Another guy who deserves some props would be Bruce "The Bruce is not to be harmed" Smith. Great job Carmel.
  2. I base my list off of man vs man games over the course of 5 full man vs man seasons. Also, factor in the importance to their team. IE- QB Bills gets dropped off the list because there are about 10 weapons he has to go to. 1) Marino (Carosel at RB throughout a season - Dan carries the team) 2) Rice (Yes, the 49ers have other weapons but if I have to explain to you why Rice is this high on the list then just stop reading and go play Madden). 3) QB Eagles (He does get injured and throws an int or 2 - you can't run out of bounds 20 times a game). 4) B. Sanders (Who else do the Lions have?) 5) Bo (would be higher but gets injured too much plus Allen is there to back him up) 6) LT (He is known better by his initials...give the guy some respect...and some cocaine). 7) R. Woodson (If he isn't on excellent the Steelers are going to have a hard time scoring...) W. Moon (Alot of weapons-but in my experience he has only thrown 6 picks in almost 75 man vs man games). 9) Neal Anderson - (Do you really want to chunk it up to Wendell Davis with Harbaugh? Neal and the defense are the Bears). Tied 10) Sterling Sharpe/ Andre Rison - Their team's only chance to compete against the great teams. Honorable mentions: Wayne Haddix, Fulcher, Browner, Thurman Thomas, Dave Meggett, Gil Byrd Semi-honorable mentions: Blair Thomas/Eric McMillan, Albert Bentley, Marv Cook, Fenerty, J Johnson, Paul Skanski (trust me - he is awesome, not bad on KR either). Anyway, I'm sure lots of people will object to my list and that's cool. My brother and I did a sort of fantasy draft one time so I'll have to look back over that to see who we chose in our top 20 - I'm sure that I've left out some key players.
  3. I made up 10 games over the final weeks and the playoffs and now we are within 8 games of each other. The Bills defeated the 49ers in a rematch of SuperBowl year 2 (49ers won in yr 2) Dolphins won yr 1 over the Gia and Oilers beat the Eagles in yr 3 in case you were wondering.
  4. 2 and a half years later... Well, my brother and i just finished week 15 of season 4. It's taken a while since he's away at college but in 2 and a half years we've gone from 650 games played against each other to 901 now. The number is probably more like 1500 but it's 901 since we started keeping track. One thing that we've learned is that in any given year a team can come out of nowhere and be pretty solid. Tampa Bay went 9-7 in seaon 1, 4-12 in season 2, 6-10 in season 3 and in season 4 they are 10-3 so far... The Jets made the playoffs in year 1 - not in 2,3,or 4. The Cardinals only won 7 games over the first 3 seasons but are 7-7 so far in season 4. (JJ and Timmy Mac have been on excellent the whole season(. One of the things we hoped to settle was the debate over who the best team is... The 49ers have the best overall record over the 4 seasons but the Dolphins, Giants, Oilers and even the Vikings are only a few games behind. We also hoped to figure out who the better Tecmo player was... Well, after 901 games my record is: 438-458-5. That's 48.89% to 51.11%. I guess i have to give him props for being 20 games ahead but it's less than 3% and I've won all 3 Super Bowls so I dunno if we've decided that yet. Anyway, I enjoy your posts and will look into getting involved in an online league soon. It's just a matter of time before you all humble me on the beautiful side-scrolling gridiron.
  5. So I thought that I'd update this post 3 years later... I am now 26 and my brother (Tecmo Budah JR) is 21. We are currently in week 11 or our fourth season. For those of you counting at home that is 835 games including playoffs. We've had 3-4 reset seasons since then, likely due to the game becoming 3 yrs older. He is away at college and we only are able to play during the hollidays so we've only played 15 weeks of football over the past year. My notebook of Tecmo stats has become numerous excell spreadsheets at I tally our record vs each other (I am 405-426-with 4 ties). As you can see, he has gained some ground. I explain this away by giving our record as a percent instead (48.7 to 51.3) - see, not that bad - he's not even ahead by 3%. We've even come up with a list of the top 50 rushers, passers and receiving games that we've had vs each other (396 rush by Thurman, 471 passing by Everett and 465 rec by Mark Carrier). We still employ the 'no lurching rule' but have added a few over the years. Such as no WR's at RB - this gives the Oilers a huge advantage - so our league's competition committe (us) banned that one. I look forward to getting closer to the year 4 playoffs this Christmas season. Maybe I'll catch up a game or two.
  6. First Emmit to the cards, then Seau to the dolphins, now Tim Brown -the last player still on his 1991 team gets released. It's a sad day. Kinda makes you feel old...
  7. I have mentioned this in a previous post I think but my brother (20) and myself (24) Have just finished our 3rd "All man vs man season" We organized it by putting every team on man control and for season 1 week 1 I was the away team, in week 2 I am home and so on. Then for season 2 we reverse it. Season 3 is technically a repeat of season 1 and we are now starting season 4 (repeating schedule of season 2) This format has been played by us for over 4 years. One of our most infamous stories is that we actually brought the nintendo up to the hospital and played 2 games while my sister was in labor! (Brocos over Pats in aprox week 7 or 8 of season 1.) The playoffs are all on VHS and we study them as gametape. We also have "Game of the week" -kinda like MNF - we choose who we think might make a good matchup and record thoise games -such as GIA v SF in week 1 The superbowls have gone Miami over GIA 35-21 - season 1 SF over GIA 24-21 (inc to Lofton jumping in the endzone on 50 yd bomb as time expires...oh yes, its on tape) - season 2 And HOU over PHI 24-21 with a TD to a jumping Haywood on a picked play as time expires...also on tape) As you can see we are fairly well matched and our overall record for the 3 years including playoffs is within 15 or so games There are 236 games in a season counting playoffs and probowl (I think thats the #) I cant recall our exact records at the moment; however there are 3 notebooks full of stats and highlights at the house. Thats over 650 games. We have had only 4 ties (2 in a row in season 2, I thought that was odd) Anyway thats my/our story. For anyone wanting to get that Dallas Tournament going; I just got married, work full-time and am taking 17 hours of school. So, sorry about not getting back with you. I will be organizing one over the summer or possibly spring break.
  8. Whats the most combined points you and another person have scored in a man vs man game? I.E. I just played as Bills and my brother was KC I won a playoff game 44-35 (79 combined pts.) No, cheating, and no giving up. In other words, if it was a blowout and the other person was just making stupid calls so that the game would end. In the clearly atciculated words of Rasheed Wallace: "Bowf teems playd har"
  9. If all tecmo players are fags then I must be Richard Simmons baby!
  10. How many are there in Austin? And what would it take to get them to Dallas for a Saturday? Prizes? Food? Free copies of the game? I currently have about 10 possibly 20+ people from my brothers Varsity football team that would love to come get beat down by a bunch of pros. I have about 8 copies of the game and plenty of good controllers and nintendos. I just need some feedback on the level of interest.
  11. Hi, My brother and I have played over 700 man vs man games against each other (4 full seasons of playing every game with every team against each other) We are boored of this because we are almost perfectly 50% - We need some competion. I am organizing a tecmo tournament that will take place sometime this winter- probably early january or perhaps over spring break. We need some feedback if anyone is interested- its too early to get into details or rules. Just wanted to see if anyone is in the area or what it would take to get you in the area. If enough support could be gained I promise that this would be the best Tecmo tournament ever - and Ive hosted 2 allready. Tell me what cha think.
  12. Just thought of a few more Wade Wilson- Cowboys QB coach Babe Laufenberg- Channel 11 sports caster in Dallas, also does a fill-in radio talk show for sports radio 1310 the Ticket (Dallas) called the "beatdown" - I think that he still does a show called "The Score" - a sports highlight weekend show. He will forever be remember by my brother and I as Babe "Tha Score" Laufenberg for his relief apperance for Troy-boy in a critical late season come from behind win against the Giants. (in year one of our all man vs man season)
  13. Hey, anyone interested in contributing to the "Where are they now" directory of Tecmo? Just list a player from the 1991 version and what they do now. Example: Mike Singletary- Ravens Linebackers coach Mo Carthon- Cowboys offensive Cord Jack Del Rio- Jags head coach Brent Maxie- a secondary coach...maybe 49ers? Mosi Tatupu......? They don't have to be a coach, and I don't have time right now to post the countless others. But I'll bet that alot of you guys know where some of the obscure players can be found.
  14. Dude, diving is way more likely, the instruction manual even eludes to this. Its says that you shouldnt throw to a receiver if he is covered unless he is very "talented". This is a huge part of the game if you play as much as I do vs human cometition. If you know which receivers will make the "jump- catch" o9r the dive in coverage it can be a nice advantage. Also using certain plays will further enhance the chaances for a a huge play. Such as that shotgun play in the 3rd slot - if you throw to the WR that runs a post, throw it just as he cuts and if he is good he'll jump for a 10-15 yd gain moast of the time. Also the play in the second slot where two go deep and two go 10 yds and stop- throw it to the top receiver if your play gets picked and he will catch it half the time. My brother has mastered the art of throwing to the other guy as he stops, but you have to be super-quick with the A button and then fire it and he will dive. This has to be the best play in the entire playbook IMHO becasue even if it is picked you have a great chance to get a completion.
