  1. An appropriate World Cup themed challenge.
  2. Sorry if that was unclear. I didn't mean to assert that Rice somehow had better hands than Ellard, but rather that he has a discernable edge on both Hill and Ellard. When compared to the other big receivers in the game he is going to come down with a higher percentage of bombs. A ridiculously high game-breaking percentage. I would probably take Barry Sanders with those teams since you would be able to get your stud more touches via the pass.
  3. I disagree with this assessment. The point about the two defenses is irrelevant and just obscures the issue. The question is who has the better offense. I don't see how the Rams' offense can rank worse than tenth, and depending on a player's preferences I could see them as high as 5th. I just don't see how you can call the Eagles' offense that much better than L.A.'s. The comments in this thread compare Rice to Hill and Ellard, but he is really much better than both of them. The combination of top speed and hands means he is going to break more defenders and make more CCs. Unless you have the opponent totally on his heels, you must pick pass against a squad with Rice and a half decent QB. Even then, he will still most likely destroy you. QB Eagles is great; his clock control is hugely important in Tecmo and he can be the one man show, but he just doesn't dominate against every defense in the same way that Rice can.
  4. is it really? It's been a while since I played. In any event, just get three good runs to Hill. The Offset I runs are great. Maybe T Cross in slot 3. Slot 2 can be whatever you want.
  5. Play with the Oilers and move Hill to RB (make sure you put the other 2 good WR at WR1 and WR2. If you can stop the 49ers, even with the Bears, it means he sucks and you should still be able to stop him with the beast that is Richard Johnson (a disgusting corner back with all the tools). When you throw the ball, just throw deep into single coverage that is not Dave Waymer (the SS) and you should put up big points. Your first pass play should be RS Flare C. This is a monster of a pass play where both primary WRs go deep. For pass 2 you can go with the RS Z Fly, Pro T Flare D or the Offset I pass. RS 3 Wing (both primary WRs go deep) Redgun (WR2 goes deep) Your third run should be the RS sweep up top. Also, while Toss sweep R is the best run in the game, you might consider the RS sweep in that slot.
  6. Brady is a cheat. How does it feel knowing that the only reason NE won those super bowls is because of Bellichick's "how low can we go" attitude? 3 point win each time... "Like they knew our plays before we ran them" tsk tsk
  7. not allowing teams to be used in the pool round and then in the playoffs could create an unfair situation. Imagine you're the guy who has all the good teams used against him. I guess you can either play with poor teams and pull some poor record or you can go with decent teams and be screwed for the tournament portion. Plus you'd run out of teams in a certain tier by the championship. What I find is generally nice in these kind of friendly tournaments is to eliminate the bottom 25% after the season and give the top 25% a bye. Gives everyone a real reason to play.
  8. How about a no offense season with the Rams? Their return game isn't the worst so it's not a total disaster.
  9. Let's keep this terrible thread alive. 1. 49ers 2. Oilers 3. Rams 4. Bills 5. Dolphins

  11. If we allow WR at RB, Rice become the game's best player as long as you're using the notorious "Rice Magic" playbook.
  12. I agree with you on most points, but come on- that is some fallacious logic.
  13. You should actually start on Lincoln because that would be pretty amusing.
  14. I'd go with the Bills over the Bears vs. SF. Lott is at his best when facing a one-dimensional running team and I'm always a skeptic when it comes to stopping 90 yard Jerry Rice bombs. On defense you're still screwed with the weak secondary but there's a lot that can go right. Drone Bruce Smith can create pressure, the Bills won't turn it over nearly as much as the Bears, you might get an onsides kick etc. I just don't think defense is the way to beat the 49ers. Make it a shootout and take your opponent out of his comfort zone. Maybe he'll outthink himself, start running with Craig and allow Conlan to put his helmet on the ball. If you can beat Lott with the Bears then go with them.
  15. I will chalk this insane rule up to PTSD resulting from a critical blocked FG in someone's youth. I for one do not collapse into the fetal position at the thought of a 56 MS LB rushing my kicks.
  16. My statement was based on the TPC x-factor rankings. I assume those are somewhat reputable.
  17. Moving a team's best receptions WR to RB is usually not a good move in my experience. The 49ers offense goes from the best in the game to one marginally better than the Bills' (I feel like I've had this discussion before... http://www.tecmobowl.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=28495&highlight=#28495). The teams that really benefit from running with a WR/TE are the Dolphins, Oilers and Eagles. It also helps Washington a bit. And again, when we're playing with teirs, I don't understand why we're talking about running with WRs disrupting balance. The Eagles and Oilers are already outclassed by the 49ers; it's forcing them to play with one hand tied down that's unbalancing. The Dolphins are inferior to the Bengals and Chiefs as well so I don't see what's gained by nerfing them either. All of this is not to say that you *must* allow WRs running the ball. There's something to be said for the realism aspect and it ain't my tournament. But I don't think we should really sit here pretending that "no WR at RB" is anything other than an arbitrary rule that doesn't improve gameplay.
  18. While just because something is in the game doesn't mean it should be allowed, I really think we should err on the side of less rules. The NT dive isn't allowed because it ruins the game by making many plays unusable. I don't think the other things we've talked about getting rid of are really that bad; in fact, I actually enjoy most of them. Rules like "WR at RB" and "no gratutious onsides kicking" don't really add anything to the game, and not everyone agrees on them. No WR at RB doesn't work for a tournament of this sort because it hurts the guy that picks his team second by making certain teams weaker. Guys that are forced go against SF should be able to put together the strongest Oilers squad they can. The potential blocking of kicks is a part of Tecmo I really enjoy. It prevents 60 yard field goals from being a boring automatic 3 points. Without the ability to use the 4th man down, overtime becomes completely worthless because a field goal is just too easy for the team that gets the ball. The block % after the animation is also relatively low; this isn't gamebreaking. Not being able to use the DL is a bit excessive. Just make it clear what a dive is. I'm still trying to wrap my head around Tecmo without the option to control Bob Nelson. I don't really care so much about no onsides kicking mostly because I don't think kicking onsides everytime is a particularly good strategy (maybe others disagree). I'd just prefer that they be allowed because I don't see any point in not allowing them. Anyway, these are just my thoughts.
  19. Being seeded first in a large playoff field isn't enough of a reward? The tournament rules as they exist now aren't perfect (no 4th man down on FG?), but they're good enough. The only real problem I forsee is that we won't have enough time for the "ideal" number of games. I'd like to see a relatively high number of games in the qualifying round (at least 6) and then best 2/3 in the playoffs, but that just won't happen unless everyone who says they're coming turns out to be lying. Maybe we can continue the late rounds of the playoffs at bad moon rison's home!
  20. It's like I've always said: the Bears defense has no speed.
  21. Their offense is just awful. With their line and Vinny's pass speed, they can't throw the ball. In my experience, scrambling isn't too effective when there isn't a real threat to throw. Anderson is decent, but you'd need something more than 50 MS to make this offense work. The defense is ok but Haddix can be neutralized by running at him.
