  1. I've been looking into baseball advance since I got a GBA. It's a pretty cool game. I can edit some of the graphics and I may program an editor for it. I can't seem to find where to edit the AVG, HR, SB and RBI's though. If I can figure that out, I'll probably create an editor. Does anyone have a manual for this game. What do the colored arrows stand for for each hitter in the lineup screen. thanks.
  2. Coach K would be cool. I looked into it a long time ago and couldn't figure out how to hack it. It would probably be easy to change the players names and possibly stats but if I remember right I had a hard time trying to change the guys numbers on their uni's. Also I'm pretty sure the graphics are compressed much like most EA Sports title logo's. Which means you can't hack them. I could be wrong but if you look around there aren't too many EA sports titles that have been hacked. I made an EA NHL editor for SNES but all it could do was change uniform colors and players names.
  3. I just bought a GameBoy SP and a Flash Card. I haven't had much time to mess with it yet but TSB and Pocket Nes will definitely be on there. Thanks for the info about GBA
  4. To my knowledge you aren't doing anything wrong. I think the team names are actually graphics and they are compressed. I believe I looked at this a long time ago and somebody else on this forum had the same question. I think they're compressed and there is no way at them. As for uniforms, you may be able to change their colors with the Snes Pallette Utility I created. I think it's in the downloads.
  5. I used a relative search tool. The dos one is the one that I use. I think it's called SearchR or something. Anyway, you look for the difference between the letters in alphabetical order. A=1, B=2, C=3...... So California is 3,1,12,9,6,15,18,14,1 (I think). Hit return after you type those numbers in and it will probably show about 4 or 5 places in the rom where that word appears. Open the rom in a hex editor and type in the numbers for ANAHEIM (1,14,1.....). If you don't know how to use a hex editor then this task is probably above your head. Good Luck.
  6. johnz1, I just saw your posts here about the editor. I was going to answer your question about trading but I see you found the import roster. You got the right idea with excel. Using excel and KGB Editor it should be easy to update. I programmed KGB. It is lacking some things and has room for improvement. I just didn't feel like working on it much after the first release. It is pretty easy to change California to say Anaheim. As for changing the graphics I think somebody else found out that it is impossible. When I was spending time editing KGB I spent hours trying to find out where those damn team logos were. I guess they're compressed. I really wanted to put new team logos in there but couldn't find them. I did find how to change uniform colors but it's kind of tricky. I'm a Rangers fan so I changed their uniforms to be blue instead of red. When they are in the field though, you cannot change their hats to blue. You can only change their hats to red or black. Anyway, glad you like KGB. Is there a place to download your new rosters? I'd like to see them.
  7. I thought it was for rating. So you could see how good guys were before you changed their name and numbers. I haven't looked at it for a while. I programmed it and I guess I don't know then. That was my intention though was to have it be the rating.
  8. If you're not new to rom hacking then you'll probably understand this. If you are new then you'll want to read some documentation on rom hacking first. In Hex workshop you can see most of the text for the rom(team names, abbreviations) on the right side as you scroll down. You can just change it there. But, for some weird reason there are a couple places where team abbreviations use different hex numbers so you don't see them in a hex editor. You can do one of two things to find the hidden abbrev's. You can use the relative search program to find it or I believe you can goto the screen in nesticle, pause it, view the pattern table and write down the hex numbers for the letters you want to change. I think there is two sets of numbers in the pattern table. Write down them both. Do a search in hex workshop for those hex numbers and you should find the hidden team name abbrev's. They are listed in alphabetical order starting with Atlanta(of course). This should get you started. If I'm mistaken and you can't view the numbers in the pattern table in nesticle then you have to use the relative search tool. I think I just used relative search. good luck.
  9. I just saw the post about the 12 man screw up. It looks like it was something I did when I edited graphics. Unfortunately I have no idea what I did to do that. I hope you guys figure it out. sorry.
  10. I won't be doing a bad news baseball hack. Now that I think about it I'm not even sure if I'll get to a baseball one. I've been toying around with the baseball stars and bases loaded games for years but never really enough to release anything. It definitely won't be RBI. RBI is a great game but there's already a good editor for that.
  11. I completed editing the graphics on the NES Tecmo NBA game. I have passed it on to Rod and hopefully he will post it on the site for anyone to download. Feel free to use it as a template for future versions. It includes the great rosters from Scott Mattson so credit goes to him for that. Here's what I changed. 1) Updated team and home court logos for over half of the teams. My favorites are the Warriors, Nets, Pistons, Cavs and Suns. 2) Changed Tecmo to ESPN. If you don't like it, play the old version. 3) Updated team uniform and home court colors. These may need some tweaking. 4) Changed scoreboard names to team 3-letter abbrev instead of names that it had. This was because new names needed to be added like the wizards. 5) Changed team names like Charlotte to New Orleans. Most of this was done by Scott Mattson but there was a couple that were missed. 6) Changed the background color to black instead of blue. Here's a couple things that need to be noted.... 1) The Denver logo had some mirrored tiles in it so it looks a little funky on the team data screen but it looks fine on the denver home court. 2) The hornets also has a mirrored tile so it looks funky on the team data. I couldn't figure out how to fix it so if anybody knows how to then be my guest. 3) The team logo sizes were determined by the previous logo. For example, the kings logo might look small but that's because I didn't have much room to work with. The Sonics logo was altered a bit to get it to fit. If not then it would have been much smaller. Other then that I think it's pretty decent. Hope everybody likes it. You can post suggestions but they probably won't get answered. I'm too burned out from working on this game. I'll probably move on to a baseball game next but that will be awhile. Actually I'm surprised I finished this one .
  12. If I have the time, I definitely will. Spare time is my only drawback right now. I'll pass whatever I get done on to you. Great roster update.
  13. there is a great version with 2003-04 rosters. I think the link is under the message that says Tecmo NBA 2004. I've edited some of the logos, uniforms, and home court colors but I don't have anything to distribute yet. I don't have any information on the progress of the editor.
  14. ok, for some reason I'm still hacking (NES) Tecmo NBA. I've edited the logos for the midwest division with new spurs, wolves, mavs, jazz, rockets and nuggets logos. Here's where I'm stumped. All the logos in that division are pretty friendly to work with except the nuggets. The nuggets logo has 3 repeating tiles in it. The Hex at line "0D54"reads "60 62 62 65 66 62 69 6C". As you can see "62" is repeated. To fix this I used two other tiles from within that graphic that weren't being used so I changed it to "60 62 4A 65 66 50 69 6C". It worked like a champ.....so I thought. On the team select screen it looks great but when you view team data it still shows the repeating tiles. This means that the logo data for the nuggets on the team data screen is buried somewhere. I CAN'T FIND IT!! This is the first team I've ran into that does this, I'm willing to bet that it won't be the last though. I'd like to continue to work on this game but if I run into alot of this I'll just scrap it. Any help with this would be great. If this is not clear enough then let me know and I'll try to explain it better. thanks.
  15. Thanks GRG. I checked it out and you were right. That is exactly where the away uniform colors are at. You may know this but right before that is the home team court colors in the same order. For the home team uniforms, I think the 3038 after the away team uniforms might be the home teams since all of them are white(30) except for the lakers(38). Just a thought. Most home teams are going to have white jerseys anyway so this isn't a big deal.
  16. Thanks GRG. I'll check it out. I'll see if I can find the home uni's. If you find them let me know. I'll post it if I find them.
  17. It doesn't seem to be. I looked for the lakers uniforms since they are the only team with yellow as home jerseys. Their home color is 38 and their road uniform hex color is 13. I just can't seem to find them. Thanks though.
  18. I had some free time so I tinkered around with Tecmo NBA(NES) last night. I edited a couple teams logos. I was looking for the pallete in the rom that edits team uniform colors and possibly their home court color. Does anybody know? I'm not sure if I'll get the whole rom done because there has been alot of new logos in the NBA but if I do I'll be sure to release it. Thanks.
  19. You changed the logo of California to Anaheim? If so, let me know where its at and I'll do more of them. If you're talking about just changing the name California to Anaheim then yes I've done that. That's just text. I was talking about the game logos. If you did change the logo in the game then send me a screenshot. I'd like to see it. I love the game and would mess with it more but alot of the graphics are compressed. I really have no programming experience. I know some VB which enables me to program some editors but not much more then that. I learned rom hacking like everyone else, reading, reading and more reading. I also have excellent knowledge of photoshop which comes in handy for logo graphics editing. I really don't have anything cooking right now. Every once in a while I'll fool around with a rom but for the most part I'm out of it. I don't have a lot of time to do it.
  20. Ok, I created that program so I field the question. I haven't used it for awhile but I believe if you click in one of the F, Bo or L boxes for the player then the player features window will pop up. If not I think there is an option for it in one of the menus. The numbers in the the F, Bo and L boxes are the hex numbers for the players body attributes. The reason that is in there is if you are playing the game and you want Jeff Bagwell to look like Mark McGwire then you can go into KGB and look at McGwire's F, Bo and L numbers and type them into Bagwell instead of having to look through the player feature pictures. As for hacking the logos, good luck. I'd be amazed if anybody could. The logo graphics are compressed. I've looked all over that rom for the logos. I've got some experience in graphics hacking(see NCAA 2001 for Snes) and I have no clue how to hack those logos. I can change some of the uniform colors. I did change the Rangers to Blue but there are some limitations to changing colors too. If you want I'll try to scoop up the rom that I changed some of the uniform colors on then you can hack the rosters. I'd like to get a copy of an updated roster rom.
  21. exactly. If you change the FF the rom will probably not fun or something screwy. I think it would take some assembly knowledge to change the FF. I'm not saying it's not possible, and I might be wrong but this is what I believe. There are a couple ways. Hopefully in your case it will be the easiest way. Let's say you wanted to change the word Super Bowl. Start with the letter "S". Go into Nesticle and look at the pattern table for that screen. I believe the letter "S" is 2 tiles wide by 3 tiles tall. Find the tile in nesticle that makes up the top left corner of the "S". Write down the hex value. Next find the tile that makes up the top right corner. Write down that hex value. They will probably be next to each other. I can't remember on that screen if the tile order goes straight across(meaning, top two tiles of the "S", then top two tiles for the "U", then top two for the "P" and so on) or it goes top two for the "S" then middle two for the "S" then bottom two for the "S". You will have to guess and test. If I get some spare time I'll look at the game and let you know. I know it can be done because I actually changed the title of the main screen once. Also, I can't remember but you may run into some mirrored tiles on the main screen too. If you do it won't be too many.
  22. Actually, I've done that. I did it once and remember that it was a pain in the butt. I don't think that is exactly the same thing. I don't think the title screen has mirrored tiles. For example, If you wanted to change it to say Rose Bowl you could use the same tiles for the letter "o" in Rose and in Bowl. Let's say hex "1F" is the top left hand corner of the "o" in Rose, when you went to put the "o" in for the word Bowl you would use the hex 1F again. If a tile is mirrored it would use hex "1F" for the "o" in Rose and then next time you wanted to use "o" again it would have some different hex like "FF" or something. meaning you can only change the first instance of 1F to something else and whatever you change it to it will affect the other tile automatically. A good example of this is in the NFL shield logo on the "F" in NFL. There are two tiles in the "F" that are mirrored. If you change one the other changes automatically. I believe you know this though. The opening screen that says Super Bowl can be hacked but the NFL logo is another story. If anybody figures that out then let me know.
  23. Good luck. The SNES version is a little more forgiving. The NES version has too many "mirrored" tiles in it so it's difficult to edit all the graphics. It takes alot of planning to get all the teams and logos in there you want. I wish I knew how to locate pointers for graphics and alter them then I would probably do some more rom hacking. Usually when I hit a game with alot of mirrored tiles I move on. Let me know if you come up with anything. I can tell you that you can get the pallette from Nesticle. Just start the game up in nesticle, get to the screen you want to change and bring up the pallette option. click on the pallette squares to find the hex code for the color you want to change, then look in the rom to find those exact numbers and change them. For example one of the big helmets is white(hex 30). The pallette menu in nesticle could probably show 0F301501 0F0A1531 0F101011. You know the helmet is white, you know that 30 is the hex for white. Look for the 30 in the pallette menu. The first one says 0F301501(there it is). This means the helmet is white and there is probably some red(15) and blue(01) in there also. Change those if you want to. In your hex program do a search on 0F301501. There should only be one. If there isn't then look for a bigger string including the next 4 hex's(0F3015010F0A1531). Once you find it change the 30 to the color you want the helmet to be(for example(01), save and start nesticle again. Go to that screen and the helmet should be blue. Good luck. I'm sure there are also some documents explaining this too. If anybody finds out how to edit graphical pointers that would probably get me interested in hacking tecmo bowl again. let me know.
  24. Nesticle is the easiest because you can see what your editing right away. If you can't find the graphics in nesticle then use tilelayer or tilelayer pro. There are other programs that I haven't used that may be just as effective.
