  1. are you patching an original game file that has not been edited?
  2. so will the new controller work with nesticle and other emulators as well? or is this just for nesticle? seems odd to me they would make two different modifications for a universal controller.
  3. After working on this project for months I am finally proud to announce that I am releasing SBlueman's Tecmo Super Bowl 2004! 4. Noit nitpicky at all, thanks for the find and I will correct it asap. Sometimes things like this just fall thru the cracks.
  5. First off I want to thank everyone who has tested the game and given me some feedback. I have been taking people's comments into consideration and adjusting the game here and there. People will see a different game when the final version comes out. allstar4 had a good post with some ideas on the game, so let me respond: Cornerbacks: I have edited Patrick Surtain's stats to reflect his spot as arguably the premiere cover corner in the NFL. Sam Madison was knocked off his perch a bit and Ty Law was also bumped up, especially after his amazing preformance vs Marvin Harrison last week. Quarterbacks: Again, alot of the ratings in my game are based on my personal perception, but when it comes to McNabb, Vick and Favre the stats also back me up. Vick is overhyped as a passer. He is not accurate and aside from having a cannon for an arm has alot to learn to really become a pure passer. McNabb has one of the lowest completion percentages of many starters in the last 4 years, and as much as you want to blame the wr's the fact is the ball is not getting there. Give a QB a great control rating and he'll make the worst wr in the game look good. Favre has been eratic as well over the years. Nobody will question his toughness or leadership, but look at all the int's he has thrown since Holmgren left. Favre has also had some really bad moments in recent big games, like the 5 int preformance vs the Rams in 2001, the embarrasing loss at home vs the Falcons last year (under 50% completion percentage, 2 ints) and then this years horrific blunder of a pass in OT. As for Culpepper, since ball control is not a stat that can be edited his control is down. Culpepper has been a turnover machine for the last three years, and although he got off to a decent start this year, he really struggled late including a loss at Oakland where his turnovers (5 out of the teams 6 turnovers were his) proved to be the difference in the game. As for Manning's arm, he's at 56. Not a laser by any means, but with an 81 across the board for the other stats, the ball gets there most of the time.
  6. Just a note, to get the correct return men, simply reset the offensive rosters for each teams.
  7. That's all well and good but again, people in an effort to make their representation of Tecmo have gotten away from what the game was originally like because of what they think makes a better game. I almost always see some RB's with 31 RS and 50 MS even though there is NOT ONE running back in the original game with those stats. Stephen Davis was updated to reflect his place as one of the premiere power runners: 69 RS, 75 RP, 50 MS, 94 HP, 50 BC, 19 RE He is now only behind Jamal Lewis as far as rankings. BTW, thanks to GRG's expert help I have a rom now that shows the correct uniforms in the division/conference/super bowl championship screens!
  8. Kelly Holcomb was made the starter because he had 100 more attempts than Couch. Again, I am using Tecmo's original attributes, and both qb's ended up with around a 75 qb rating. Northcutt is tied for 11th place in TSB manager 2000 rankings. He averages out at a 38. I have switched Morgan and Northcutt so Northcutt and Davis run the reverses. Morgan has been adjusted to a 50 re. I have Davis at KR and PR. As far as I know when you edit the return men with TSB manager, you either have to have one man do double duty or have your starting rb do one or the other by default. 42 tackles and 1.5 sacks? Ben Taylor was the only LB with more than 1 int. The other LB was Bentley with 2. The Browns offensive line is ranked 4th worst in the game with TSB Manager 2000's rankings. I have edited the stats accordingly and it will be seen in the final release for the DB's. Earl Little had 6 ints and Robert Griffith was 3rd in tackles. on another note...... Does anyone care about the actual gameplay? Or is how their favorite teams stats all that seems to matter? Seems like the only imput I get always is about how someone's team got hosed with their rankings. While that's all fine and good, there are other aspects of the game too. I really went out of my way to give this game more of a feel like the original game.
  9. has anyone figured out how to edit the game so you don't have to reset the rosters to have the return men you want be the default?
  10. A) Randle El and Dante Hall have been adjusted accordingly. To get the correct return men, reset the rosters. C) Edited Lee Suggs but gave him up to 44ms. He only had 289 rushing yards. D) If you plug in the game to TSB Manager 2000, Stephen Davis is tied for 3rd best RB in the game. He might have a 31ms, but he is a bull with his 88hp. E) In the original TSB, QB's highest rushing speed was 56 (Cunningham) next to that was 31 (Peete and Testaverde). With only 355 rushing yards, I moved him down to 31. His passer stats are on point for a QB with less than a 60% completion percentage and only 16tds. For his career he has been one of the least accurate starters with a 57% average. The reason Cunningham had such a high rushing number was because in 1990 he had 942 yards rushing. The year before? He had 621 rushing yards. If we see those type of numbers ever again from a QB, he'll get the higher rushing stats. Until then, 31 should be the max. I think the reason he was at 56 was because that is what I had him with in between tinkering. My bad. F) Not that good? 2 Super Bowls appearances in three years, a Super Bowl MVP, and a 69/38 TD to Int ratio for his career? I think he's that good. G) Brunell was moved down to a more pedestrian 19ms H) The chain animation on this rom has been like that for years now. Somewhere along the line something was edited and erased. I know alot of people have different ways to put together the player attributes and won't agree with my rankings. Understand that the player rankings in my edited game follow the same formula as the original game and will not have anyone with "souped up" stats. Anybody testing my game can suggest changes, but please do not take it as a slight on you if I do not make the changes. Some changes I can justify, and some I can't (see above). I would love to hear how the game plays, if it has that same "Tecmo Feel" as the original, because that is what I was going for. You'll notice some teams have 2 back formations where those two rb's were not on the field at the same time. Realize that this formula was also used in the original Tecmo Super Bowl (see the Raiders with Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen).
  11. If anyone is interested in beta testing the game before it's release, IM me on AIM at sbluemanradio.
  12. Almost done, all I need to do now is change the Division Championship/Conference Championship/Super Bowl Championship screens so all team uniforms are correct.
  13. Take the original Tecmo Super Bowl. Run 9 simulated seasons. Compare the results to the 1990 NFL season (the original TSB might have a 1991 schedule, but the sim code simulates for 1990 results) and see who comes out on top. Won't be the Giants and Bills every year. The Vikings were one of those fringe teams who just missed out on the playoffs, same as the Dolphins, Bengals as well as other teams who finished around 7-9. That's why I average it out over a couple seasons and do not just look at one seasons results alone. I am still tinkering with the sim code and hope to be done soon. But I would not be suprised to see teams like the Vikings, Bengals and Dolphins go to the playoffs and actually sneak some wins in.
  14. I have been working hard to finish my Tecmo 2004 in time for the Super Bowl and so far so good! I am pretty much done with everything except for tweaking the sim code here and there: Here are the team results in a 9 season average: 9 YEAR AVERAGE WINS Legend: (PLAYOFFS), [DIVISION CHAMPS], {CONFERENCE CHAMPS}, ::SUPER BOWL CHAMPS:: AFC EAST: --------------- N.E: 12.5 (9) [7] {5 ] ::3:: IND: 11.8 (9) [2] MIA: 10.0 (7) NYJ: 06.5 (1) BUF: 04.1 AFC CENTRAL: -------------------- TEN: 11.6 ( [8] {1} BAL: 08.3 (2) [1] PIT: 05.0 CLE: 02.0 AFC WEST: --------------- K.C: 13.6 (9) [8] {3} ::2:: CIN: 09.0 (5) DEN: 09.0 (3) [1] HOU: 05.2 JAX: 03.8 NFC EAST: --------------- PHI: 11.6 (9) [5] {3} ::2:: CAR: 10.2 ( [2] {1} DAL: 09.1 (50 [2] WAS: 07.5 (3) ATL: 03.7 NFC CENTRAL: -------------------- G.B: 10.5 ( [5] MIN: 09.6 (5) [4] {2} ::1:: T.B: 06.2 CHI: 04.6 (1) DET: 04.5 NFC WEST: --------------- STL: 12.5 (9) [8] {3} SEA: 08.5 (5) [1] S.F: 06.0 (1) N.O: 05.2 Don't believe me? Here are some pictures to prove it: AFC East: AFC Central: AFC West: NFC East: NFC Central: NFC West: AFC Playoffs: NFC Playoffs: I have to fine tune some teams like the Saints and 49ers (Saints should at least make the playoffs once!) and the Panthers (only one conference championship while the Vikings have two? Gotta fix that!)
  15. Well, it's time for the divisional playoffs and I am almost done with my game! I have the AFC sim code complete and am now currently crunching on the NFC teams.....so looks like I will be on schedule for a Super Bowl Sunday release.
  16. Some of those divisions have slots for 5 teams that you want changed to 4. Do you mean move the NFC East to the NFC West? The AFC Central and NFC West will not hold 5 teams.
  17. Here is the completed player breakdown everyone. Now I am working on the sim code. You can open this file and view the player rankings with Tecmo Super Bowl Manager 2000: SBlueman's Tecmo 2004 player ratings (download this file and open it with Tecmo Super Bowl Manager 2000) Emuware.com's Tecmo Super Bowl Manager 2000 Emuware.com's Tecmo Super Bowl Manager 2000 update
  18. it's a weird setup anyway since Tecmo has only three divisions in each conference and the NFL has four in each conference. Here is the current lineup in my version: AFC East: Bills, Colts, Dolphins, Patriots, Jets AFC Central: Ravens, Browns, Titans, Steelers AFC West: Broncos, Chiefs, Jaguars, Bengals, Texans NFC East: Redskins, Falcons, Eagles, Panthers, Cowboys NFC Central: Bears, Lions, Packers, Vikings, Buccaneers NFC West: 49ers, Rams, Saints, Seahawks
  19. Don't fret Gary, after the end of the season I have edited the game accordingly and yes your Browns are in the game. Their win vs the Bengals put them ahead of the Raiders and Chargers and the Giants fell flat on their face again. So The teams that are out are indeed the Giants and Cardinals and Raiders and Chargers.
  20. You can also visit my site (http://sblueman.com/) and find a whole bunch of edited Tecmo games I have put together over the years like: (ALL the following games are .ips patches on my site. You will need an original Tecmo Super Bowl rom to apply them to. There is an original rom in the downloads section of this site) Tecmo Super Bowl (1990 Edit) This game changes the schedule for the 1990 season and fixes the rosters and attributes for players. Tecmo Super Bowl (1991 Edit) I fixed the attributes of teams and players to accuratly simulate the 1991 season. Tecmo Super Bowl (1993 Edit) I edited the schedule, rosters, simulation code and more to simulate the 1993 season accuratly. Tecmo Super Bowl (2000 Edit) My first Tecmo project. A simulation of the 2000 NFL season. The sim code is now accurate. Tecmo Super Bowl (2001 Edit) One of my top edits. Simulates the 2001 season accuratly. Tecmo Super Bowl (2001 Edit- Fast version) Same as above but with "souped up" attributes for the players for a faster, more challenging game. Tecmo Super Bowl (2002 Edit) The edited sim code, accurate rosters and graphical changes make this the BEST TECMO EDIT AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET!!! Tecmo NCAA (2001 Edit) A simulation of the 2001 NCAA Div.1 season. Has all of that years AP's Top 25 teams. Tecmo NFL Dynasties Play the '76 Radiers versus the '85 Bears! All the original Tecmo teams greatest teams! Those are all original edits. I also have some edited games that were previously released on tecmosuperbowl.com: Tecmo Rose Bowl 1998 The original Tecmo Rose Bowl the people at tecmosuperbowl.com with some player and sim code edits. Tecmo Rose Bowl 2002 The latest project by the fine people at tecmosuperbowl.com. I helped in editing the sim code and player ratings and this is my version.
  21. Sucky stats? In my opinion no. Corey Dillon has decent stats in my version (38rs, 69rp, 50ms, 25hp, 50bc, 38re) but in a two back set Rudi Johnson has 3 of the 4 running plays in the playbook. Here are some other examples: Keenan McCardell: 38rs, 69rp, 44ms, 13hp, 50bc, 63re - TSB2000 rating: 42 Terrell Owens: 38rs, 69rp, 44ms, 38hp, 81bc, 63re - TSB2000 rating: 46 Terrell Owens is the most physical wr in the game, and if you look at the original TSB, his attributes are exatly that of Art Monk of the Redskins, a WR who used to have the all time record for receptions at one time. Here are the Eagle RB's: Brian Westbrook: 38rs, 69rp, 56ms, 31hp, 50bc, 38re - TSB2000 rating: 40 Correll Buckhalter: 38rs, 69rp, 50ms, 25hp, 50bc, 44re - TSB2000 rating: 39 Duce Staley: 38rs, 69rp, 50ms, 38hp, 38bc, 38re - TSB2000 rating: 39 Westbrook and Buckhalter are the #1 and #2 Rb's and split two running plays each while Staley is the # RB and is the first option to come in if either starters get injured. I have never believed that stats alone tell the story. Alot of the ratings have to be besed on someone's preformance over a span of a couple years, how much playing time they have, and personal opinion is huge in how I rate games. I know when it comes out I will get emails with people saying this person should be rated higher or lower but after doing this for a while I have come to the conclusion that I am going to release what my vision of a Tecmo game for this year will be and those who like it will and those who don't can make their own or edit mine to their liking. All I know is I will not have souped up stats and this game will have the same feel as the original Tecmo Super Bowl.
  22. what version do you have? I have version 0.86 and if you go to Options, then Controller, a window comes up where all you have to do is configure your gamepad. Just click on the imput fields and when they are flashing hit the appropriate button on your gamepad and you'll be all set.
  23. Check out this thread about my upcoming game One thing I am doing is going thru the player ratings player by player and making sure the attributes reflect the players for this year. One thing you might want to keep in mind though is that even the original Tecmo Super Bowl had some freaky sort of grading curve. How do you explain players like Ickey Woods and Bobby Humphrey getting the stats they did? Humphrey never did a thing after 1989 and Ickey Woods was never the same after a knee injury in 1989. Yet in a game that reflected the 1991 season, they had some real decent numbers.
  24. Try going to emuware.com: http://emuware.com/ I'd download the essentials first: A tecmo super bowl rom (available in the DOWNLOADS section of this site) Tecmo Super Bowl Manager: http://emuware.com/files/?tsbm.zip Tecmo Super Bowl Manager System files: http://emuware.com/files/?tsbm-sys.zip (place the items in this zip file in your c:\windows\system directory) Tecmo Super Bowl Manager program let's you edit the NES version of Tecmo Super Bowl. Tecmo Super Bowl Manager 2000: http://emuware.com/files/?tsbm2000_0_70.exe TSB 2000 update: http://emuware.com/files/?tsbm2000-0.71.zip TSB 2000 lets you edit almost all versions of Tecmo except for TSB 2 for the snes/genesis.
  25. Alright, took a week off but I am back up and running. I am starting from scratch here again. I have done alot of cramming and have the schedule and rosters complete, the playbooks and player attributes are halfway done, and one I am done with all that I will delve into the sim code. Some changes: - Kickers will be fast as in the original TSB. Just want to get back to that "Tecmo Feel" - Some teams will incorporate a 2-back set that will have the top two leading rushers on the teams and not the typical RB-FB alignment. Think "Raiders" or "Chiefs" from the original game. Teams like the Eagles (Westbrook & Buckhalter), Panthers (Davis & Foster), and 49ers (Hearst & Barlow) will be aligned this way. - All player stats are taken exactly like attributes from the original game. No "souped up" players or attributes that are not true to the original game's formula. (all WR's have 13 HP except for Hines Ward, who's #'s are like Art Monk, all offensive players have 69 RP and so on) - Unfortunatly for any Browns fans (sorry gary), the Browns are out of this game. They have lost 8 out of their last 9 and have been pretty pathetic. Meanwhile the Jaguars lost 5 out of their last 9 and have been more competative than the Browns. The other team out in the AFC is the Chargers. - I am still debating who will be the final cut teams in the NFC. The Falcons have made a late season push, but the only reason to include them would be because of Vick, and honestly he just has not played enough this season to justify me putting him in the game. But if the Giants lay down again and the Falcons play one more good game, I might have to bump the Giants for the Falcons. I have three schedules already made up just in case. Arizona is out easily, and it's between the Giants, Lions and Falcons for the last team to not make the cut.
