Upon further investigation, im learning that all running backs in the game have 38 speed, all WRs have 44 speed. how is this possible?

I purchased a cartridge of Tecmo Super bowl 1991 to play on my newly acquired Retron game system. Looking for the nostalgia i picked the Raiders ready to unleash hell with Bo. Well i ended with 43 yards rushing on 13 carries. I went to go check his stats, and it shows 38 speed. I went to check other players and alot of the players stats are all messed up. How do i fix this?
