The attached document provides relevant guidance for editing various aspects of SNES TSB. I will periodically edit various portions of the guide as my Tecmo Bro (Richard Young) & I make new discoveries as we produce new ROMs for you folks to play. If you find any discrepancies, please email me and I will correct ASAP. Additionally, if you want to share anything not contained within the guide, please email me & I will incorporate the information & credit you with the entry within the document. Hopefully, this information will help all SNES TSB enthusiasts with their special projects while simultaneously collocating all hacking documentation in a central location as a lot of info is somewhat difficult to locate in each thread.

VGifted reacted to The Super TecBros in Super TecBros. (SNES) TSB 2023-2024
The SuperTec Bros SNES 2023-2024 Tecmo Super Bowl will be released just prior to kickoff (7 September 2023) in a dual ROM configuration with the following features:
    * Three sprite variants consisting of Classic Sprite Plus (CSP), Comic Book Outlined (CBO), & NES Hybrid (NES).
    1. CSP sprites are very close to the original; however, they have been altered so they resemble their large muscled-up, cut-scene counterparts. Additionally, the field turf has been simplified with a two-toned pitch so the sprites do not blend in with the turf.
    2. CBO sprites are outlined in black featuring the OG field turf. These sprites were designed for those who have issues with color vision or appreciate smooth animations without the sprites fading into the turf or other background assets. NOTE, the 2023 version have been redesigned with more fluid animations between frames.
    3. NES Hybrid sprites are the simplified 8-bit version; however, each team has white socks and dynamic shadow effects so they match their respective cut-scenes. A single gradient field is available for all weather conditions as well.
    * New title screens and Intros have been redesigned featuring modern NFL players. NOTE: final versions are subject to change depending on player/team transactions.
    * Mini Helmets (MH) & Large Helmets (LH) have been modernized and redesigned. Any non-essential shading has been removed to improve contrast so images are more defined. NOTE: BAL & TB’s LHs do not depict their accurate logo as the tiles could not be modified to accommodate the appropriate number of slots to create the image. As such, the logo has been improvised with a logo from their back catalog.
    * Background/Menu screens have been changed to black.
    * Menu drum music loop has been removed.
    * Full 17 game schedule.
    * Regional weather is accurate. No rain or snow in dome stadiums.
    * Uniform matchups are now accurate eliminating clashing jersey colors.
    * All endzones (EZ) correspond to team woodmark & match team colors/actual NFL EZ.
    * Hacks added: Stats between quarters, COM QB Finds Open Receiver, 4th Quarter Punt Logic (COM will punt up to the 2 min warning then go for it), Late Season COM Def Coverage, and Full Juice versions available.

Gonna try to get some coding done this week. If I can get the tiles to load correctly,  by months end I should have 8 plays done for a playable beta.  Really hoping to get at least that out before the end of year.

This thread is intended to be just a spot for the TSB fans to follow the process of the our TSB4 rom project. Here we will post each stage of converting the season from 30 teams / 6 divisions to 32 teams / 8 divisions. We will post coding we may need help on, updates on the status of certain codes, screen shots and videos. Stage Titles will be in "red" until completion. Once the Stage is complete it will be in "green". At some point the betas will be released in this thread. Something like this has not been tried on this site, and seeing as me and my brother (Hurricane55) are going in uncharted SNES waters, I thought this would give everyone a basic idea of what we do as we edit this game and maybe get some help on parts we might be stuck on. I will try not to jump around, but if we hit a dead spot, I will move to another section until I can figure out what ever issue we might have. This should be a great guide once we are done. The hacks we will need to do will pretty much cover the processes of hacking text, mapping sprite locations, and data adding(we will have to add 2 division to be selectable in menus). Also, I still have some cutscene hacking to do, and once you edit one cutscene, you'll have an outline of how to hack the remaining. I will be adding individual spreadsheets for backgrounds and cutscene sprites when I get to those edits. I'm going to try and keep this thread as nice and orderly as possible for easier navagation for future edits.

This is not a thread for questions about when the game will be done, when is the beta to be release, if I can give you a copy of the rom and so on.

This is strictly for people to either check in on the progress of the project or who can help with coding.

Once a beta is released, if you have questions about how we did something I will try to do a write up on it. I will include locations, screenshots and what tools were used.

I will be using this thread as a guide for showing others how to hack each process as I go. (The curtain has been pulled back!!)

As it gets further down the line, if you have an idea of what could be added or if you don't like the look of one of the screens, feel free to voice your opinions.

Also, when the beta's are released, you will post your comments here. (A new thread will be created and linked here when the first beta is released) Any bugs, glitches or freezes will be posted here also.

Thanks in advance and let's get the journey started:

At some point the final release and updates to the final release will be attached to this post.

I'm doing real life stuff right now, hopefully by the end of the month I'll finish getting a cert for my job and I can go back to full time coding.  As for free agency we haven't really thought about it.  Sorry guys, really ended to get this done before the season.

Long time lurker (and modder/poster from like 06-09 or so) and had to pop in to say that screen is sexy, minimalistic while still having key info. This is hands down the romhack I'm most excited to play. That being said, take your time, I have zero problems waiting for this.

Forgot to add, changing the WR3 with TE2 makes a 2TE set.

VGifted reacted to DrunkenGamer in The Quest For 32 - TSB4's Journey to Completion.
For one, it'll be Madden style.  I am looking for a way to toggle between Tecmo passing and Madden passing.  Some might want the old way.  But we felt, as we speed up the game, the scroll was too slow.  Our NCAA game was really hard to pass.  Second thing, as of right now, the WR3 spot will change depending on what position is in that slot.  So if you put a RB there, that player would instead line up in the backfield in a 2 back set.  Put a TE and that player lines up in the TE spot.  Same for the TE1 spot.  Put in. WR and that player lines up in the slot.  So one default formation will have multiple looks depending on who you put in the game.

Made some ground on a couple of the bugs still left, found locations and RAM locations, next week will be going through see why some might be happening, or how I can work around them.  Also finished the coding for more alternate jerseys.

Just a sample, but teams will have up to 8 alt home jerseys and 8 away jerseys.

VGifted reacted to jstout in TSB with both 34 and 43 defenses
I setup TSB to allow specific teams to be set as 34 or 43 defenses. Only gameplay on the field and the Defensive Starters page have been edited. The roms have been tested fairly well but let me know if any glitch happens or if any of the plays (offense or defense) vs the 43 need adjustments.

The 43 teams on the original rom are:
CHI, DAL, HOU, MIN, NYJ, PHI, RAI, SEA, WAS

The 43 teams on the 32 team rom are:
ARZ, ATL, BUF, CAR, CHI, CIN, DET, GB, HOU, JAX, KC, MIA, MIN, NO, NYG, OAK, PHI, SEA, STL, TB, WAS, and both the AFC and NFC Pro Bowl teams

VGifted reacted to deadfaulkner in TSB III Play Diagrams w/ Labels
We're just about to start a new season at the TLL, so we're setting our team lineups and playbooks.  One thing we thought would be useful was play diagrams that label which player gets the ball (for running plays) and how the receiver progression works (for passing plays).  I thought I'd put the results up here.

One thing I learned from this is that there are some passing plays that are wrongly diagrammed in the game's play selection screens.  For one, all the fake dive passes show the back as an eligible receiver in the diagram (i.e. yellow route arrow), but he is not (obviously, since he dived).  I've grayed those routes out in these diagrams.

Interestingly, there are two other passing plays that do not, in the diagrams, show all the receivers that are actually in the passing routes.  The first is the 1Motion PA Pass in the Pass1 slot: the tight end is diagrammed as having a blocking assignment, but he's actually an eligible receiver who runs a short in.  The second is the T Motion Short in the Pass4 slot: the QB fakes to the FB, who is diagrammed as rolling to the bottom to block, but he, too, is actually a receiver in the pattern.  Both of these routes I've shown in light green in my diagrams.

Thanks to slimjimmy for getting the original play diagrams from the game.  He's a true TSB III guru.

Let's just put this right here...

Still have some coding to do after the snap.  This will fall into our new ratings, the icons, if I can get it all figured out, will stay above the players heads, but depending on your QB coolness rating, when the QB runs around, the icons have a chance to disappear while the QB is moving.  This should help differentiate Upper tier QBs from mid to lower.

Still needs some testing, but I think I have an 18 Week schedule now.

Next up, playoff mapping, then the playoff seeding.

When I finish this up, I will update the front pages with the changes made for record keeping.

So close to getting the Created Player face hack done.

Sort of fixed a major bug with the ratings for CAPs, I know what's it's doing now, just need a place to insert a code to fix it.

But as long as you don't go into the ratings part, back out and go back in, it works fine.  The Impact rating will reset if you do and screw up the code I inserted.

Next big bug is that the game is not recognizing CAPs skin color.  I back tracked to an earlier rom, the one I first inserted the player faces in and it was doing it then.  So it is something else that happened before, which CAP was never checked when I was coding as we weren't sure what we going to do with it.  I think I have narrowed it down to 2 locations, will troubleshoot it and hopefully figure it out soon.

After Created Player is done, all that is left is the following:
    creating rosters
    creating roster ratings
updating some team information (Mostly done, but will go over it to make sure I didn't miss anything)
    create plays

After launch additional stuff if time permits:
    add 42 new faces
    work on the playoff seeding
create a 40 team NCAA game... wait, that was supposed to be a secret.  Hope no one is reading this!

    Edit:
Found the byte to fix the skin color read.  I misunderstood a compare byte.  Really close now to finalizing the Created Player hack!!
