  1. Yeah, it's 2020 and people have made ROMs with different graphics and different rosters. Check the download section, there's some TSB 3 ROMs in there. Problem is, most of us don't have the time anymore to work on this stuff and I'm assuming by 'better grafix' you mean different uniform colors and endzone palettes. Not exactly an easy fix.
  2. Marino is a boss in this game. I had a 5,000 yard passing season with him and then blew it in the playoffs when my lack of a balanced offense caught up to me and a juiced Raiders team kicked my ass in the AFCCG. That Raiders team ended up losing 28-3 to an 8-8 Cowboys team in the SB. It was one of my most hilarious seasons ever. Dallas shouldn't have even been in the playoffs, then got to the SB cause the Packers just barely lost to them on a blocked field goal.
  3. This is why I stick to TSB 2. Defensive formation is definitely everything, I 100% agree. TSB 2 just has higher difficulty though. I am a defensive player first, usually focusing on defense most of the time. It's why I usually play with teams like the Chargers, Chiefs, Steelers and Eagles. it all depends on the team you're using though. I agree with the audibling strategy, which is essential when you are playing with a team that don't have strong LBs. You can set yourself in a dime and audible to nickel and use the DBs in coverage better.
  4. I wonder if this means he's also not in TSB 2 which covers the 1992 and 1993 Redskins. I think he is in TSB 2 though cause there is a WR Redskins with number 81.
  5. I don't think one exists. The player attributes in this game change season to season as it reflects a true 3 year mode.
  6. Cool stuff, thank you for posting this!
  7. TSB 2 definitely isn't for everyone. Hell, for the longest time, I was convinced that I was the only person out there playing this game. It's my favorite Tecmo and always will be. I think my main appeal of this game (looking back at posts I made years ago) was the difficulty originally. It truly is the most difficult of all the Tecmo games, mainly due to how unpredictable it is. Football in general is unpredictable and this game does a good job of replicating that. Extra points are not automatic, fumbles can happen at any time even with the most ball control players, passes can be tipped and intercepted, interceptions are occasionally ran all the way back for a TD, the COM calls your play more regularly, and injuries are even more random than the other games. If you go through this game playing a season and just walk it through the park not paying a whole lot of attention, the COM will catch you off guard and trip you up. Even in a successful season with just a few losses, the COM will make sure you have to grind out some of those wins in hard fought battles. The only thing I dislike about the additional difficulty is when the COM decides to be a moron and go for 2 points when the TD they just scored only needs 1 point to tie the game. But occasionally, the COM will convert those 2 point conversions, and now you're down 8-7 or 15-14 and it changes the entire course of the game. The COM also gets "juiced" on you like the other games. When you're trying to go undefeated in this game, good luck, cause the COM will break bad on you with the most unexpected team and it gets even harder in the playoffs. Buffalo usually is the team that gives me the most fits when I am playing in the playoffs. The COM will find ways to just be a pain in the ass to you with the Bills. Beyond the difficulty though, this game is truly special for players who like to play entire seasons, cause it has 3 complete seasons in it. The rosters and playbooks change too and are very accurate to the 1992 and 1993 seasons they are based on. The Giants playbook for instance changes year to year (which would make sense with them having different coaches. Dan Reeves took over in 1993 and their playbook changes in the 1993 season, becoming a Smashmouth offense). A couple of them stay mostly the same based on what teams were running the same systems year to year (Lions with their hybrid Run-N Shoot, Oilers with the Run-N-Shoot, Niners, Packers and Bucs with their West Coast style offense). The 1994 season isn't as accurate, just as the 1993 and 1995 seasons for TSB 1 and 3 aren't, but it's still fun to play. They do accurately predict the Niners being the best team in the game, mostly cause they have a star-studded defense with all the additions they added in the 1994 off season. The only thing Tecmo gets wrong with the Niners in that year, is Steve Young's attributes are not quite what they should be for his MVP year, but he's still a good version of Young. The best Steve Young in this game though is the 1992 season. The only thing I don't know a lot about in this game is the trade mode. I don't know the probability or how random it is. I usually only play the seasons out and go year to year.
  8. Depends on what you're asking for. TSB 2 is the only one of the Tecmo games to have more than one full season in it. The rosters are completely updated and accurate to the 1992 and 1993 season. Even in running COM simulations, you get pretty similar results to the regular season and playoffs for those seasons. I don't think this is what you mean but just wanted to point it out there. If you are trying to do 1992 and 1993, this game has the definitive best rosters for it that reflect that time period in the NFL. As for hacking it and making it have 32 teams like the NES version, Bruddog is correct in these regards. I would absolutely love to see the day TSB 2 or any of the SNES versions get a 32 team rom hack, but I doubt it at this point. No one has the time for it. Some years ago I wanted to learn the coding and how the SNES stuff works in hopes of making my own rom hack of this game. But that is a pipe dream at this point. Since then I've gotten married, have a mortgage and working 2 jobs. I wish I had tried to figure this stuff out years ago when I had the time, cause I truly don't have it anymore.
  9. Huge thanks for all of this, appreciate it!
  10. Agreed. From 1982 to 1998 is about my favorite era all together for the NFL. That was the era of the dominant, juggernaut teams that fill up lists of GOAT teams. Some of the best QB classes and head to head QB showdowns (sadly they were mostly blow outs like 1984 and 1989), not to mention historic defenses. I hated the 49ers back then, as well as the Dallas dynasty (who didn't?) but it was actual greatness we were witnessing. IMO the 1991 Redskins are the GOAT team and I am grateful now that I was able to witness them. The NFL looked better back then too. The old kelly green Eagles, pastel blue and white Oilers, orange crush Broncos, aqua and white Dolphins, creamsicle Bucs, blue and yellow Rams, silver and blue Seahawks, etc etc. I liked these colors so much better than what these teams changed to. It seemed some time in the late 90's, teams began changing their colors and making them darker. This led to navy blue becoming the most overused color in the NFL and IMO a lot of these teams lost their charms when they changed to darker colors. The only two teams who changed to darker colors that I think did it well was Denver and New England, and yet Denver's uniforms did not look right until a few years ago when they finally switched the navy blue to orange for home jerseys. Every time the Dolphins and Bucs break out their throwback jerseys, the fans say they look better than the current uniforms they wear. The only 90's year I didn't like was 1999 cause the league was so weak at the time. From 1999 to 2001, those 3 years were weak points for the whole league. The 1999 Rams and 2000 Ravens both had some of the easiest schedules ever of SB winning teams with the Rams ranking #1 at easiest SOS and Baltimore's list of opposing QBs in 2002 was truly pathetic. Things improved after 2001 with better teams, but I don't think there ever would've been 7 win teams making the playoffs back in the 80's or 90's, let alone those mediocre teams winning their wildcard games.
  11. I think this is what you'er looking for. Fernardo did a terrific job with this ROM, as he has with his other ROMs over the years. Enjoy!
  12. The special ending is all there is. No legacy players, but there is a trade mode. Easiest team to win 3 consecutive SBs with is the Cowboys, if you just want to see how the special ending plays. Their 1992 and 1993 squads are true to the seasons they represent and they are hands down, the best team in those 2 seasons. In all of my time of running this game, I strangely find the 1993 Cowboys tougher in the playoffs than their 1992 version and I think this is because in 1993, they completely destroyed their opponents with ease. Dallas was up 28-7 over the 49ers at one point in the 1993 NFCCG and despite being down 6-13 to Buffalo at halftime in the SB, there was never a moment in that game that it felt like they were in trouble, Buffalo still got throttled in that game. In the 1994 season, they are still a top team and the team to beat in the playoffs. I once had Dallas come back from a 24 point deficit against the 49ers and take the lead in the final seconds over me. It's possible to do with the 49ers, but Dallas gives them serious problems in the playoffs and their defense is not a great unit in 1992 and 1993. The '92 and '93 Niners teams have some serious flaws on defense when they are playing elite teams, usually by getting gashed by the run. Their defense can be amazing in 1994 cause they have such a stacked roster with elite talent, but not the previous years. Any time I get an SF/Dallas playoff match, it's always a nail biter with the 49ers, even when I have a big lead on them (Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin turn into Tecmo Gods and wreck their defense). Dallas on the other hand, will throttle them with no problem in all 3 seasons. I think if you want a real challenge though, try the 3 peat with the Oilers. I actually did achieve a full 19-0 run with the Oilers in the 1992 mode. I went a full 16-0 in the regular season with only the Lions giving me the infamous "juice" game where I had a tough time beating them (needed a comeback to barely beat them). In the SB, I got Dallas and held them off for a 21-18 win. This was a rare season where I absolutely throttled Buffalo in the playoffs, usually the Bills are my biggest issue in this game. In the 1993 season, Houston's defense is actually better and I think you could argue that their defense is even better than their offense cause they can become a dominant unit if you run Nickel a lot and use the front 4 to get run stops (Fuller and Childress are your keys to run stops). The offense takes a few steps back as Moon loses some of his consistency, but is still a great QB. Their play book is more opened up for running too. The 1994 season though is the real challenge. Their defense is still good and will get you some wins, but good luck with the QB combo of Cody Carlson and Bucky Richardson. They are like the equivalent of Curtis Painter as the starting QB of the 2011 Colts. You will be relying entirely on your still sold WR corps to make these two guys look respectable at times. Fortunately for you; the AFC is the weaker conference in all 3 seasons and in 1994, you don't have to worry about the Buffalo Bills anymore. Buffalo in '92 and '93 are your biggest obstacle in the AFC and they truly can be a tough team to face in the playoffs (Buffalo is the one team I have the most issues with in the playoffs of this entire game), but they aren't a problem in 1994 cause they most likely won't even reach the post season.
  13. Totally agree, Rob Moore is awesome. He can be a legit deep threat and it helps that Boomer Esasion has accuracy. They are frustrating as hell in TSB 2 with Browning Nagle and a washed up Ken O'Brien. I won a SB with the Jets in this version and their offense was damn good. My favorite guy though is Johnny Mitchell. In TSB 2, I often utilize him with their passing plays cause he's a key player for third down passing and hell, he's even good down field catching deep balls. It's only too bad that in the 1992 season you are stuck with Nagle or a washed up O'Brien. The 1993 version of the Jets can be a playoff contender in that version. Jets are one of the most underrated teams in this version though. I grew to love playing with them over time and got that SB win with them. They are more fun than the Raiders, whom I grow convinced are cursed in these games, cause bad random stuff seems to always happen to me with them.
  14. @TecSpectre Thank you for this reply, great to see you still around. You know more about TSB 3 than anyone else I've seen on the internet. Cheers for always giving us great information.
  15. One must always keep in consideration with SNES Tecmo is that we don't know how to edit in the missing teams. Whether it's the 28 team TSB 1 and 2, or 30 team TSB 3; some teams have to be cut out if it's a modern rom post 2001.
  16. Completely disagree with this. Dallas is easily better than both Houston and Buffalo. The Cowboys have one of the stronger defenses in this game, despite them not having star power. Emmitt Smith is also one of the best RBs in the game and Aikman don't throw many picks. In all of my years of playing Tecmo, Aikman is one of the few QBs that are the hardest to intercept. They are better than just a good offense, this is one of the best offenses in the whole game. Buffalo's defense is anything but great. The Bills can get gashed on the ground by a decent run attack and their secondary represents all the struggles they had from the years that Tecmo reflectively represents in real life. The 90's 4 SB trip Bills were known for having an elite offense and an average at best defense. By 1992, their defense was starting to hit rock bottom outside of the few play makers they had (Smith, Bennett and Odomes). Philly and Miami are both middle tier teams and are no way better than the 49ers, who should be the 2nd or at least 3rd best team in the league. The Niners have the best offense in the game with the best QB, WR and they have a decent 2nd WR (John Taylor) and probably the best TE. Oh yeah, they also have Rickey Watters. God I hated this team growing up. They used to kick my beloved Saints asses twice a year. The 49ers offense is easily the best in this game and I'll take them over the Oilers for the sole reason that you can run the ball better. Even their pass plays are better than Houston cause you have options for short throws to the RBs and hitting the TE over the middle. I've never had much success with Mark Higgs in this game. The Dolphins are all about Marino and their excellent receivers. The running game always breaks down at some point in the season. Their defense is underrated in these games, but far from a dominant unit like San Diego, Pittsburgh, New Orleans or even Seattle. Not true and I can say that cause I won a Super Bowl with them and took them to the SB in another season before that. Tampa Bay is no where close to being as bad as they seem on paper. They are not an average team, but they are close to being one and can be one of the better teams in this game if you play them up to their strengths. The man that my account is named after is NOT a bad QB in this game. He's just immobile and slow, but he's accurate and can have a good deep ball. Reggie Cobb is great, but Workman is also a good back and their TE is good. On defense you get Hardy Nickerson and Broderick Thomas, both of whom have potential to be sack machines if you use them right. Tampa Bay has one main advantage over every other bad team in this game and that is their play book. Their play book is one of the better ones in this game that can make a bad offense work. Won a SB with them back in 2015 and their defense is definitely not terrible. They're not great, but they are average and you play up to their strengths (defensive line and LBs), they are pretty useful. On offense, you have the HB pitch play which is the most broken play in the game. Their playbook is bad, but Boomer is far from the worst QBs in this game. My favorite guy on their offense is Johnny Mitchell, whom is one of the better TEs in this game. Use him like a WR and you'll be converting first downs constantly. You can also run the ball pretty good with the Jets. If you want to see them as a poor team, load up TSB 2 with their 1992 squad that has Browning Nagle at QB or the version in TSB 3 where they are the worst team in the league. I won a SB with these guys too! Flipper Anderson and Henry Ellard were stars back in the day and they are accurately represented in this game. It's definitely not true that this team is lacking in stars. Jim Everett is one of the better QBs in this game. This game probably has the best version of him of all the SNES Tecmos and he's not throwing to scrubs. Flipper and Ellard can be terrific deep threat receivers. The Rams also have Todd Kinchen as a backup, who can also be a pretty decent WR if you want to use him. Sub him at the TE spot for easy pass plays. On defense you get Kevin Greene at LB, who was definitely a star back in the day and is useful in this game. Rams are a middle tier team, they are far from the worst. Replace Tampa Bay and the LA Rams with Seattle and Arizona, then your list of worst teams would look better. Arizona has the worst playbook in the entire game and their whole team is horrible. On offense you get Garrison Hearst, Randall Hill and Rickey Proehl. I have to mention Proehl cause he seems to always make catches in tight coverage for the COM. Hill is useful and so is Hearst, but you have a bad QB situation (Only Seattle has worst QBs) and on defense, their front 4 and Aeneas Williams are the only good spots. Seattle on the other hand fits your depiction of the Rams. Chris Warren is their only play maker on offense. Their WRs are the worst in the game and your QBs are two major busts whom can't throw accurately down the field. On the other side of the ball, their defense is really good with Cortez Kennedy who is a sack monster. You can play the Seahawks as a dominant defense, but their offense is absolutely terrible. Too bad Dan McGwire didn't do steroids like his brother, it probably would've made the Seahawks offense a bit better.
  17. Sorry for the late reply. TSB 3's engine is more advanced and more polished than what you get from TSB 2, except for all the glitches (some of which are pretty funny). TSB 3 has a reputation of being the easiest of the SNES games and the most friendly towards new players.
  18. I've been playing these games for almost a decade now. I didn't find them until 2010. Since buying TSB 2, I have played it more than the other 2 on SNES. It's my favorite of the bunch and where I keep going back to when I need to play Tecmo. As I've said before many times on here; it sticks out cause it's the one Tecmo game where anything can go wrong and the COM can really punch you in the gut at any given opportunity. I had a game just last week between Buffalo and the Jets in the 1992 season. I subbed Ken O'Brien at QB earlier in the season but for this game I was Buffalo. Despite going up 21-10 early, Thurman Thomas fumbled 3 times which nearly lost me the game. The Jets scored a TD, stupidly went for 2 and did not get it, but they were OK even after I kicked a field goal to make it 24-16. Next drive, I try to extend the play with Kelly for a deep pass, but the ball is tipped and then intercepted, ran back for a TD. This time, they get the 2 point conversion and we're tied at 24-24. End of game, Thurman Thomas fumbles, they get the ball and score a TD to go 31-27. With 11 seconds left, I threw a bomb to Don Beebe for a 76 yard TD. What made it hilarious is that the Jets ran a dime and the coverage was spot on with 2 guys covering Beebe, whom I beat for the TD. I jumped out of my chair and had to go Wooooo like Ric Flair. The Tecmo games are the only football games I've ever played that give off a feeling like that. I wish I had known of these games existence back in my youth, I would've gave up Madden back in the 90s.
  19. Hi there, thanks for your comment. Sorry I am a little late replying to you (Hard to get online sometimes when staying busy in real life). I use the same quarter length in my game. 5 minutes is the base and what I'd recommend. I have toyed with 7 minute quarters and it just makes the games drag on excessively. I ran a season with the Bears back last summer and the results were similar to yours except I used the 1993 season. I went 12-4 and got bounced in the wildcard round to the Giants. I lost 17-10 in this weird game. The Giants blocked 2 field goals which were their only TDs. I had Rodney Hampton completely shut down and Simms had less than 50 passing yards, yet I lost because my offense couldn't do a damn thing and the 14 point swing from 2 blocked field goals. It was a 3-3 game when my first field goal was blocked but I ended up down 17-3 in the 4th quarter cause the second block happened on my first drive of the 3rd quarter. I was so mad after that, but had plenty of time to do something. Their defense was phenomenal and I was able to go with the #1 ranked defense, #2 ranked pass defense and #1 ranked rushing defense. I really like the Bears defenses in the 3 seasons of this game. They are my kind of team, as I more of a defensive player with Tecmo. I felt like I was playing with the 2000 Ravens when it came to their offense. I won at least 3 games in my 12-4 season all thanks to defense pulling miracles with pick sixes and fumble recoveries. Butler is a great kicker in these games and I was relying on him to make long field goals. The Bears offense is really difficult to get in tune with, I definitely feel your pain there. RB Bears got injured for me too 3 times in my season. At one point, both of my main RBs were injured and I had to rely on Harbaugh's limited accuracy and a bunch of dropped passes from the receivers (some games they drop everything). The one thing that stood out for me in my Bears season was all the blocked field goals. Some time half way into the year, the COM began blocking my kicks. I still won games, but I had 3 specific losses (including playoffs) where a blocked field goal was either ran back for a touchdown or returned to the other side of the field setting up a touchdown for the opponent. I've never had this happen to such a point in any other season with another team in this game. The Bears are one of my anomalies with this game. One hint I can give you about the Bears and also the Steelers; special teams with kick returns may be a strength for you. Both Chicago and Pittsburgh have dangerous return men in Rod Woodson and Donnell Woolford. It's often joked on the TSB 3 board on here that Rod is God of that game cause his speed stats and INT rate make him the best CB in the whole game. Over the years, I've returned tons of kick offs for TDs with Woodson. I ran a season with Pittsburgh one time where Woodson's kick off returns for TDs were more productive than my offense with Neil O'Donnell throwing bad passes everywhere (Neil O'Donnell sucks in these games and they were made before his bad INTs in the Super Bowl. Tecmo got it right and could predict his bad interceptions). Woolford is also good for kick returns, where even if you don't get a TD, he can get you great field position. Always keep in mind that this specific game has a much harder difficulty from the other Tecmo games. If you find TSB 2 to be too difficult, I'd recommend you trying the 3rd game. It's mostly the same style (more advanced defenses and bigger playbooks) but the difficulty is much easier and to my knowledge, the Bears are a better team in TSB 3. They are arguably one of the more underrated teams of that game, it's just their schedule can seem brutal due to the QBs they face in their division (Favre, Moon and Mitchell are tough while Dilfer is a joke).
  20. It's a Madden thing. There is no ambulance here to my knowledge. In Tecmo Super Bowl 2 there is a cutscene with the cart.
  21. The Bucs are one of my favorite teams too. Winning a SB with them was the most satisfying season I ever ran with Tecmo even though the SB win was an easy blowout. I mainly play TSB 2 and they have one of the best playbooks in that game throughout all 3 seasons. You can get around the struggles of the offense by utilizing their playbook effectively. I'd rank their playbook up in the top 5 with only Dallas, Buffalo and SF above them. I do make adjustments on the lineups for most teams. I usually take out my starters in the 4th quarter if the game is out of reach and then let the backups finish the game. I've had so many instances of bad luck with losing a key player by trying to run up scores and pad stats. In TSB 2 and 3, I usually make several adjustments on defense depending on the team that I am using. Because those games have advanced defensive schemes, you can pull some tricks with putting in backups and running the Nickel or Dime depending on how strong a defensive line is. You are best to really go through every backup on defense in those games, cause there are some gems hidden on there (San Diego has Chris Mims as a backup in TSB 2 1992 season).
  22. The Cardinals and Chiefs are in this game. It has the old 28 teams before the 1995 expansion. To my knowledge, no one has ever made a ROM with different rosters. I hope to make one some day, but I'm gunning for the 1989, 1990 and 1991 seasons to make something of a prequel to the original game. Being that I spend most my time working and will be getting married soon, the chances of me ever having time to sit down and learn coding for this game are pretty slim.
  23. Wow, that's a big price tag to pay for this. Wish you could've got it as cheap as I did. Only thing about my copy was that there was a very small tear in the label. It's barely noticeable from a distance though, but I got it dirt cheap. Sadly today, that local game store from my area is no more. The guy running it moved to a flea market up in the city where he was getting better business with selling selections of modern games and stuff going back to the 2000's (PS2 and XBox era stuff was his main source of trade). He had gotten the SNES and older era console games from trading and I don't think he realized that he had something so valuable when he sold me TSB II so cheap. I really miss his store cause I found so many great old games from him. He hooked me up with all 3 SNES Tecmos and a number of other great retro games. I haven't bought many old games since his store closed. I've been kicking myself for over a year now for passing on an offer for a copy of Dragon Ball Z: Legacy of Goku II and Buu's Fury on the GBA when he offered me both of them for just 10 dollars.
