  1. I ran into this when editing a rom. I discovered that for NFC West teams, player names cannot exceed the length of the name of the player name in the base rom. For example, if you renamed Carson Palmer (12 letters) to Drew Stanton, you could not exceed 12 letters (which is fine in Stanton's case, but if he went by Andrew Stanton you would have a problem). Otherwise, it causes the character glitch like in your screenshot. What worked for me was abbreviating player names, so that UCLA backup QB Jerry Neuheisel became Jerry Neu. Not ideal, but a relatively easy fix without the need for hex editing. Edit: This only applies to the 32 team rom. I actually reverted to editing the 2014 version of the rom for some reason as well because I kept running into problems with the 2015 version, but that might have been because I was also changing team names with a hex editor. I think it had something to do with the 2015 version being bigger than 512 kb (the average rom size) due to hacks and other additional features. The character limit for the NFC West was definitely an issue for both versions though.
  2. That could be true. All the ratings are going to be redone when the regular season's over so I will definitely look into it.
  3. No, I just update my spreadsheet with the team ratings every week when the AP poll, F/+, and Sagarin ratings are released. Even then, there's only about 60 teams whose scores I track (all the teams in the AP poll, the top 50 teams in the F/+ and Sagarin ratings, and then the conference leaders in the smaller conferences). The next update will probably be around week 10 or 11.
  4. For my purposes, option QBs are quarterbacks that play in a traditional option offense (like the flexbone, wishbone, and so on) where they play with three running backs and run the ball about 80% of the time as opposed to the spread option which is more pass oriented. I think Georgia Tech is the only team in the rom that runs a traditional option offense, but the military academies do as well. So it has to do with the offense that a quarterback plays in rather than a quarterback's potential ability to run an option. For example, Dak Prescott is fast enough to be a successful option QB, but since Mississippi State doesn't run an option offense he is not considered an option QB in my rom. No team in the NFL runs a true option since the quarterbacks take too many hits doing it, so Cam would be in the 25 range in this rom. I think that I rated spread option QBs like Oregon's Marcus Mariota as a 38 too, but in the next update he will be in the 25-38 range rather than the 44-50 range since I only want true option QBs to have MS that high. This might be a moot point because as it stands now Georgia Tech will be removed from the rom in the next update, replaced by Duke who has a higher score than GT after last weekend.
  5. Although I would love to add new plays, especially ones for option teams, I doubt that I will be able to so. As for Dak, I had a system for rating QB MS: Pocket passers got 13s, mobile QBs got 25s, and option QBs got 38s. I've reconsidered this though, and option QBs will probably have 44 or 50 MS in the next update. I still do not want non-option QBs to be as fast as Option QBs, so mobile pro-style quarterbacks will have between 25-38, depending on their rushing stats. Dak will be in the 38 range. Thanks for playing.
  6. Thanks for the tip. The good news is that tile editing isn't as bad as I thought it would be, at least for the mini-helmets. I think I need a different hex editor though, since the output numbers for HxD are different than the ones listed in the editing document in the TSB NCAA Ultimate Editing SuperPack. That said, the large helmets still give me pause. Some early notes on the next planned update: I'm decreasing the RS rating for Todd Gurley, Melvin Gordon, and Ameer Abdullah. I forgot that I had planned to cap RS at 50 when I was adjusting their ratings, so they're all crazy fast at the moment. This is compounded by the fact that they all have high MS too. BYU lost last again night, so its spot in the rom just became tenuous. Central Florida (the team that beat BYU) and Toledo are the most obvious candidates to replace BYU, but their scores are considerably lower than BYU's at the moment.
  7. Hello, I am a first time poster, but a long time lurker. I have made an NCAA football rom. But be warned, this is my first time posting a rom here so I'm sure there are mistakes somewhere or another. I used the 2014 TecmoBowl.org rom as the base (since I couldn't edit the 2015 without messing up NFC West player names), so I hope that I am not committing a faux-pas by uploading an edited version of it here. If so, let me know and I will remove it immediately. I'm pretty sure all the people's names who worked on it appear in the credits. Moving on. Here is a what this rom includes: Complete ratings and rosters for 32 FBS teams. 12 game schedules with every real life matchup between teams included in the rom. Some light hex editing of game vocabulary (e.g., NFL to FBS, AFC to EST). Team sim stats, playbooks, and uniform colors. This rom lacks: Player skin tones are off at the moment. I will look into this for a future update. Tile editing of any kind, so no NCAA helmets or animations. Having spent the past week or so pouring through statistics and spreadsheets, I do think I will have the time nor the inclination to learn how to edit tiles in Tecmo Super Bowl. I would be grateful if someone with the skills could re-edit my rom to include them, but as a new member would understand if no one is interested in collaborating with me on this. I think it's still fun with the wrong helmets though. Hacks aside from those included in the 2014 Tecmobowl.org rom. Again, I am new at this and do not know how to deal with hacks. Complete Team List: East (AFC) SEC West Ole Miss Auburn Mississippi State Alabama SEC East Georgia Missouri Kentucky South Carolina ACC Florida State Clemson Georgia Tech Louisville Mid-Majors East Memphis East Carolina Georgia Southern Marshall West (NFC) Big 12 Kansas State Oklahoma Baylor TCU Mid-Majors West BYU Northern Illinois Boise State Notre Dame Big Ten Ohio State Michigan State Nebraska Wisconsin Pac-12 UCLA Oregon Stanford Arizona Teams were selected primarily by averaging their placement in the AP Poll, the Coaches Poll, Football Outsiders' F/+ ratings, and the Sagarin ratings. The top four teams in each conference made the cut, more or less. I also made sure that every real-life conference had a team in the rom. Additionally, I have parital ratings and rosters for Texas A&M, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Oklahoma State, and USC (teams whose ratings were high enough to be included before last weekend). I hope to update the rom periodically with or without help with the tile editing. I definitely plan on doing an update before the bowl games and one after the national championship, but ideally I will find time to do one or two updates between now and then. Comments and criticism welcome. I know it's a bit bare without the tile editing, but I think some might still enjoy it. Next Update Preview [updated December 3: As it stands now, the following teams will be added to the rom in the next update with the team that they are replacing listed in brackets: Tennessee [Kentucky] Florida [south Carolina] Colorado State [East Carolina] Arizona State [stanford] Next Update Release Date: Seeing the number of teams that move in and out of this rom on a week-to-week basis (especially in the Pac-12), I have decided to put off updating the rom until after the completion of the regular season. This will give me a complete season's worth of stats to work with for player ratings instead of having to combine a prorated half-season worth of stats and stats from the previous year. It will also save me time so that I do not add teams that are unlikely to rate too highly at the end of the season (like I did in the current rom with Kentucky). NCAA2015.nes
