  1. I use actual NES controllers with a usb adapter, although lately I've found it kind of challenging to play with the keyboard. I've also managed to map an xbox 360 controller. Just seeing what everyone else prefers or has messed with.
  2. Thank you BD for responding.
  3. This is something I've noticed since I was a wee little ghost. Growing up I was a loner and my brother had no interest in TSB so I always ended up playing the COM. Also, for some reason my NES would never save a season so I made my own seasons and played the games in preseason mode. What I'm getting at is that I got very familiar with preseason mode. As the game goes on the COM seems to get a boost and you will fumble and they will eff up your shut out. A lot of times they will do this by fumbling it, recovering it and return their own fumble for a TD. Or their O will become unstoppable and march down the field like an entirely different team. Since I've learned the nuts and bolts of the game I thought a boost similar to the one given to the entire defense when it picks the offenses play gradually takes hold as you get further and further ahead. Does anyone else notice this? Any idea where and how these in game score based boosts are triggered?
  4. I am not. But if I were the biggest hang up for me (and this goes for any TSB creation) is rating players. I came to this forum based on a google search long ago, and I think my first post was something simliar. Arena is hard to translate realistically. The other Roms I've messed with it seems the QB is able to complete passes despite being 100% covered, I found this aggrevating even though Arena was such a offensive oriented league. Also, back when I wanted to make an Arena rom, the rules were different for the Jack linebacker, he was confined to "the box" tackle to tacle and five yards deep. The last time the AFL died I believed it had changed to 5 yards but from sideline to sideline. There isn't an easy way to tell a COM controlled player to abide by these rules. I know none of this is what you're looking for answer wise but it's late and I can't sleep. TL:DR No, but that's what brought me here originally when W was still in office.
  5. Thank you BlueMan as always. I was imagining an extra step that wasn't necessary. So, if it's okay. I'm going to write this to my future self who, in a year, will forget all this and go searching. Dear Future Me, General Manager is the tool you're looking for. Right click, open with java. After changes have been made you can just open the .nes file and see the changes. You don't have to "load" the extra file generated by GM in any way.
  6. I forgot the trick to loading the supplemental file created using this tool and applying it to the desired ROM. Can someone please remind me?
  7. Before I go jumping into YY-Char and doing this myself I was just wondering if any of the available downloads accompliished this? I know I had one years ago someone else made, but I can't find it anymore. I believe it was indoor football related. I remember because I liked the room and had to change the uni's back. Other than that, now, all I can find is the below and I don't know what a lps file is and the other link provided is long dead.
  8. Thank you @bruddog ! I wouldn't have thought to look in Paths or equate "Use internal compression" with Encryption so thanks! You're a living Tecmo Legend! Weird to think next April I will have been getting help from you on this forum for 10 years!
  9. I've been poking around in the usual places, preferences and such, where would this be set at?
  10. Sorry @bruddog I'm stupid. Encryption where? In my browser? In Nestopia itself?
  11. I relied on this until rather recently for stats extraction, esp. season stats extraction. When I do it now, I get a bunch of zeros. I even tried running the vanilla rom and making sure the save state was on the blue screen. Both single game and season are blank. Checked the "Original 28" box too,.. bub-kis. I know there is a stand-alone non-web extractor but that is one game only, and you have to save in a very specific format, plus my season is over so I couldn't grab stats game by game anyway. Anyone know anything? Thanks.
  12. Found a College Football ROM that has I formation and even option out of the I but some of the other aspects of the ROM aren't what I'm looking for. I'd be happy not changing anything on the first play except moving the FB from the Pro Form to in front of what we around here call the I-Back (or used to...aka RB). I'm gonna try and compare/contrast, just thought I'd update as it looks like some are looking at these, and even if not, I'll forget all this and go looking for it in 5 to 10 years. And after looking to re-find it from yesterday I just realized it's a 32 team ROM... 😕
  13. Note to future self, don't assume Java is installed on your machine and open with "Open with"
  14. Thanks Blueman, can always count on you. As suspected Id wha have it already, already un-rar'd what is the trick to actually modding a .nes file with it?
  15. I want to make a basic I formation. I have looked at "Bruddog's "Tecmo Playbook Hackers" Document v2.0" but the section about modifying formation seems to be more to do with motion after the play had been picked. I know there is a playmaking tool but that seems to just tell what players do after the snap and how each defender reacts, not where they line up initially. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  16. In the past I've used a tool that lets you drag, drop and delete teams from divisions and edit team colors. I also remember their being a trick to opening the file you want to edit. Perhaps a .jar file? Chances are I've already downloaded it, maybe even several times, but I use it about once every Presidential term. What tool am I thinking of and what's the trick to opening the rom you want to edit? Thanks, EDIT: The program is a jar file irrc and opening the ROM you want to edit there is a trick to it.
  17. Had a lot of fun with these last night. The option works great. I barely dipped my toe in the playbook editing waters before my absense so I haven't dug into the code yet. I noticed that all of the option plays start in the gun or pistol, is this for read option purposes? I'd like to do an old school under center I or wishbone formation version. Is that not possible or were all of these roms made to represent a more modern read option offense that has been all the rage for the last decade or so?
  18. https://tecmobowltools.com/SaveStateExporter which I use religiously has a IsInjured column, can't believe I hadn't noticed that before, that has to be coming from somewhere right?
  19. I have the change so that preseason injuries are on, is there a way to set status prior to a game. For example a player is marked as injured prior to a pre-season game? This doesn't feel like something that can be done on the rom, maybe alter the state file somehow? Season mode isn't an option for me.
  20. Current project I'm starting at the year the game starts and planning to retire players as best I can in conjunction with their real life counterparts. I thought this might be something others would find useful. I created a google doc if anyone feels like helping. One tab is by last name, first name, the other by team and then last name first name. Mostly I use Pro Football Reference to come up with the retirement years. Due a to Find/Replace mishap or update statement gone wrong error some of the players are missing "N's" at the end of either their first or last names, some have an uneccessary one. Even still you should be able to decipher each players name. I think I will also attach the list as a spreadsheet in case the google link doesn't work. Super Tecmo Retirement Years.xlsx
  21. Lately it's happening about every KO into the endzone and seemed to start when I fixed the return speed glitch. Haven't seen it on a punt though.
  22. Nah, I already have that rom. Like I said the OIFL will work for me. I'll probs use the Arena version if I ever make an arena game. (yes Indoor and arena are different)
