  1. Both Shimoji and Tomie were very grateful for the interview and the interest it received. I just got a fun response from Tomie worth sharing. He checked out tecmomadison.com and watched the NFL films video. He was shocked to see Emmett Smith and Christian Okoye on there (and was a little confused because he thought it implied they were at the Madison tourney.) Here is the rest of his response. Does someone want to start a fund to get these guys to a tourney here in the U.S.???? "Thank you for the wonderful article. I do not understand English, so I read it by using a translation website. I may not have understood it correctly, but I understood in some way. I was also surprised to feel for the excitement of championship. I didn't understand what was said in the video, but I was very moved. At the same time, it brought back passionate feelings I had at the time of development of TSB. If there is a chance, I would love to come to the United States and watch games. I am really happy and grateful that you have kept loving Tecmo Super Bowl. I hope my feelings will reach fans. Thank you very much."
  2. I was shocked too... but it is strange how Google works. If you search for Shimoji on google.com, hardly anything shows up. But if you search google.jp, using translation -- then you can find more. I assume the opposite is true too -- so in Japan they were not as directly linked to our pages as you might imagine.
  3. Dave give me a call when you have a chance. I want to let you know the aspects I had trouble communicating with them so you can take a stab at it!
  4. Over in the Tecmo Super Bowl forum on this site I posted a link to the interview with TSB creators.
  5. Enjoy, and let me know if you have any questions. http://louraguse.com/2016/02/the-fathers-of-tecmo-super-bowl/
  6. Please include me. I won't always be able to make it, but I'm hoping to get involved more.
  7. Hey Guys -- NEWS MAN here. I want to thank Josh and Chet -- it was great to meet you guys. I am so glad I was able to make it to the last tourney. Thanks for everything you've done over the years to revive and keep alive the game's popularity. It was awesome to see my Buffalo pals again, as well as the others I met at Lou and Mort's tourney. And it was surreal and a pleasure to meet face-to-face a lot of the people I've played online over the last three years. My article with the TSB creators is 99% complete and I'll share a link here as soon as I can in the coming days. The only hold-up is that I'm trying to add more color to it, and there are some serious cultural differences between Americans and Japanese. Questions we don't think twice about, such as concerning each other's personality, come off as very personal to these guys.. but I'm trying to provide more than just a Q and A of the dry facts. They understand and continue to open up more and more but with the time difference, they end up answering my questions overnight and each answer raises another question so the days keep going by..... ANYWAY --- I plan on dropping it in the next day or two here regardless. Just wanted to provide an update for everyone who was aware of this project and looking forward to it.
  8. I won't be able to make it this year but will shoot for '17. Hope to see you guys at Madison next month.
  9. I am excited and looking forward to my first Tecmo Madison. I will be bringing along my interview I conducted with the Tecmo Super Bowl programmer and director, with answers to some of our big questions such as... "Why is Bo Jackson so damn good?" and.. "What were 'quickness' and "accuracy of passing" supposed to do?" And.... "are you aware we play TSB in tournaments such as the big one in Madison?"
  10. I think parity is important on TB because there are only 12 teams. But with 28 on TSB, there are more matchup options, so you can still find competitive matchups among the lower tier teams.
  11. And no, these guys don't speak English! The translating has been the biggest challenge.
  12. The way they explained to me was that Tomie was primarily responsible for the aspects of the game that interest most of us the most… Such as why is Bo Jackson so damn good. Shimoji as the programmer was mostly responsible for making Tomie's vision a reality.
  13. I have tracked down Shimoji and the game director Tomie. I have interviewed them and I will be presenting the interview at Tecmo Madison
  14. It is great to see such a room full of stellar athletes
  15. OK here it is. Looks like so much fun, the rest of you will have to come next year! >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjsvuHY1ZiA&feature=youtu.be
