    I'd prob go

    BUF

    RAI

    CHI
    PHI

BUF AND RAI are at least as potent offensively as PHI and even more so. They both have options to spy on Eagles. The Raiders options are less ideal as using Anderson will typically cause the give up the scramble vs give up the open pass problem more often. But using Long or Townsend can work.

CHI v PHI is CLOSER to the DL/OL matchup. If you can outtap the CHI player then PHI should be able to hang really well with chicago. Otherwise it might be rough.

Philly really should not be that high up there, I feel that so many teams that are "below PHI's rank" can neutralize/slow down Eagles. KC, MIN, MIA, DET, even PIT and the JETS can do wonders. Against that defense, there isn't much besides Jerome and Reggie. Sure, you've got Joyner, Allen, and Smith - but they're really not great at defending the pass, no one is on that team. Not to mention, against a Marino/Deberg type, Waters will get picked on a lot. So basically it comes down to the question of "Can I score absolutely every single time while my opponent sits on pass all day with PHI?"

I agree. I think PIT and the JETS is pushing it though as PHI has enough defense to make those offenses pretty painful.

In general with philly you definitely have to be excellent with the clock, ROOB often, and be good at avoiding the drones on picked plays to set up the 5-10 yard gain or open completion. You can really abuse pass 2 over and over (even when picked)  this way if you can avoid the drones.

    SF
    HOU
    NYG
    PHI
    BUF
    RAI
    CHI
would probably be my top 7, in that order. Or maybe CHI above RAI.

I'd take MIN over TB.  Like Bru says, you're gonna have to bump and grind and be patient with MIN.  (but you'd have to do the same as TB - and you're never really gonna get past JOEY anyways). MIN has a lot better defense, enough to neutralize anything TB can bring, I think.

GB-CLE is one of the most even matchups out there that really just comes down to who play calls better. Both team can essentially take the defensive options out of the game. I'd probably lean GB or P1.

I like MIN in MIN vs TB. If the OL has a lucky game TB can hold its own, but if not, its tough. Strategy is to sit on pass and man the MIN LB's to spy on Vinny for passes a.. Haddix makes things a grind offensively for MIN but they should be table to thousand paper cut their way down the field.

    Yes!!
This thread is like some undead creature that can't die. I love it!
I love this matchup too. On one hand, GB is more balanced offensively with faster skill position players and they have two pretty good defending options in Harris and Bob Nelson. But on the other hand, the elite reliability of a QB Browns offsets a lot for me as well.
Knowing my opponents tendencies would play a factor in this decision, but I'd probably take Player #1 and be happy with either team. If I had to choose, I'd probably go Brownies.

Tecmo's collision detection is somewhat optimized but it only checks two offensive players per frame.

It's possible in the worst case scenario if the two players are moving fast enough in the x direction( basically both players moving totally horizontal) that by the time the collision detection gets back to checking that player that the player is past the +/- 8 pixel ( 1 yard) hit box.

    1. The players have to be checked for collision right when they are just slightly too far enough away.
    2. The players have to be pretty fast players due to attributes or conditions
    3. The players have to be pretty much going at each either in the horizontal direction at full speed. At least for a few frames

Then you get the edge case shown below. The game does not subtract the sub pixel (deccmal) x-location only the integer location.

One solution would be to make the hit boxes slightly bigger (1 pixel).  Another solution would be to see the collision checking could be made more efficient so that more than 2 players per frame could be checked.

Running at Sanders is a good strategy to discourage his use, but using a 31ms or 38ms RB to do it isn't going to be overly effective IMO. I will also agree that Mike Johnson is in a good spot on D, but he can easily be nullified with the right playbook (i.e. I-Formation).

vikingmoe02 reacted to Tecmo Milwaukee in Milwaukee, WI - 04/23/16 - Tecmo Milwaukee
Thanks for the questions.  Noonan, currently today (40 days out from tourney) we stand at 26 confirmed entrants and 20 individuals who have contacted me stating they most likely will be playing but checking their schedules.   We have a number of invites (300+) yet to send out to the Tecmo Community based on individuals giving us their email addresses for future tournaments.  These will be sent out this week.  Assuming we have the 64 players committed we will have 8 divisions of 8 players.  Playing a true round robin.  The top 4 from each division will move to a single elimination tournament.  Point differential will determine seeding for winners of each division with same record and seeds there after. We will have 16+ stations (targeting 20) to fire through the round robin.  Once all 64 players have been identified I have a group selected that will help in pairing up the divisions to be sure they are balanced with talent.  We will have contingency plans should we have to field of 48.  We are working setting up streaming the tournament as well.

As for the Tiers of Teams.  28 teams rolled into 4 Tiers of 7 teams.  There will be 7 lotto balls that will be picked from before each game to determine what Tier the teams will be picked from.  There will be only 1 ball of the 7 that will be Tier 1 teams.  The remaining 6 will be 2 balls of each number from Tier 2-4.  Once the Tier has been named, coin flip ensues with Winner of coin flip picking Teams with opponent selecting there team or controller.  (Received positive feedback based on this).  This will speed up Team selection and perhaps spark some new selections to be called.  Once a player picks a matchup during the Round Robin, they can't call the same matchup again during round robin.  ie Dolphins VS Chargers can't be called by the same player.

Regulator:  we will be sure to update the number of entries for those of you who have to travel.  I do have hotel information available if you would like for me to send it I can.

If you are wondering who the individuals are that are confirmed.  Of the 26 so far 20 of them have played in multiple tournaments with success in Madison, Tundra, Cincy and others. So it's a veteran group who have tournament experience.

Let me know if you have any other questions.  If you are on Facebook send me a friend request to Tecmo Milwaukee.   I have been giving updates on there as well.  This site is firewalled for me at work while Facebook is not.

A lot of people do utilize the Off I. A powerful LB4 is going to blow it up so running this against a team like Houston or the Rams isn't great. I'm pretty sure you can blow up both those 1 back runs with a good LB 4 as well.

I honestly haven't used that motion run 3 in a while so I can't tell you if that would be successful though I think it's fairly slow developing and you need to be able to outtap someone since there won't be blockers. Typically you'll see the one back run 3 that VikingMoe posted.  You could go T formation for run two and then throw a T formation pass in either slot 1 or 3. I've also had success with the off-I run fake in pass 1 because your top WR is going long and your running back and full back are both going to the middle. Assuming someone doesn't bite on the fake and/or just sack you, your fullback in the middle is just looking to kill someone so a lot of times when people go to defend that running back they get locked up on what is a high HP fullback.

I've never tried that R3. I'll def do some testing with it. I'm not sold on your R2 at face value, but you're way more qualified than I. I just think someone could squat on the best DL or LB for all three plays (R2, R3, P4). Thanks for your analysis, I saw your matchup with Daboy on Youtube. Pretty epic game, and epic win.

It's close IMO, but that run3 just isn't good enough for that slot. Two of the best runs in the game are in that run3 slot, and I've included one of them below. I've also included the run2 to disguise the run3, and there's a nice pass4 that works well with it also. Keep in mind that run2 won't disguise run3 if your two RBs have the opposite pixelated pigmentation (white guy and a black guy).
I chose the run and shoot pass1 only because it's the best play in that slot. If you really wanted to disguise the play, you could pick the play-action I-formation pass instead. I've seen that done somewhat effectively.

Some more trivia now that #TecmoXII is in the books. I'll post this over in the other "Tecmo Madison to End Its Run Thread" at some point too. Sadly, many of the great players who put up historical numbers below didn't manage to bring home the trophy (Toolie, Rikster, Skunker, Jay H, etc.)

vikingmoe02 got a reaction from DFM in Best Super Tecmo Bowl Playbooks
Given this grid, my favorite playbooks are as follows:

With an elite RB : Runs 5,6,2,4 or Runs 2,1,2,4 (depending on opposing defenders) with Passes 2,4,3,2 and 2,4,7,8 respectively

    With 2 good RBS: Runs 8,1(or 6),3,6 with Passes 1,6,7(or 3),1(or 8).

Against a team with an elite DB1 (top CB): Runs 5,2,6,6 (with best RB in 2nd RB slot) with Passes 1,6,3,3

With an average team and in general I go with: Runs 5,6,2,3 and Passes 2,4,3,2(or

I do make use of some other plays with certain personnel and matchups, but these are typically the best plays in most common situations IMO.
I'd also advise not to get too hung up on formations. Yes, it's nice to disguise your playbook with most plays coming from the same formation, but sometimes a good play is just a good play even if they know what's coming - it's still tough to stop.

BTW, I think playing a season with SEA, where Green is your only real option to use, is a great way to practice using a DL effectively.
Most human opponents don't expect you to use one, so it can throw some of them off.
