I was in the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mind set when the coin toss rule change came about. Was I a fan of it? Not really but I'm a mediocre Tecmo player so my opinion means little in comparison to the more elite players. Will it stop me from attending? No, shit I attend a tournament annually that allows WRs to play RB.

The rule change will bother some of us but not all and believe it or not some players may not even notice that a rule change has been made.

I will most likely end up play with the old rules due to my alcohol consumption fogging up my thoughts.

cool. bounce it around with the tecmo elite and think about it for the future.  I will keep thinking about it, too.

I am very thankful that Lincoln 2k17 is keeping the coin flip the way it has always been.  Because I won't feel like the coin flip means very much and I need to win it every time.

so, I either don't understand the wording of the rule or the reason for the change of the "coin flip" stuff.

I recall that the "coin flip" winner simply would choose a matchup, and then the "loser" would choose to either:
    1) take P1 and whatever team the winner doesn't take
    2) choose a team from the matchup and take P2.

this process is very simple, straight forward, and fair, in my opinion.

am I reading this correctly that now the coin flip winner gets to call the matchup and also takes P1?  what?  this is actually the opposite of the way the coin flip was previously done for the past 10 years, is it not?

did Madison do the coin flip this new way last year?  how did it go over?

you shouldn't get to call the matchup and get P1 because this seems unfair in favor of the coin flip winner, in my opinion.  1) a coin flip should't mean this much and 2) give the coin flip winner so much advantage right of the bat.

forget "tap meters", there needs to be some data taken on the correlation between coin flip winner and game winner.  I would bet that the correlation would be high, in this new format.

    ok.

if you guys don't keep tournament stats on coin flip win % vs game winner correlation, it would be irresponsible and a waste of significant (in my opinion) Tecmo win prediction data.

I say start keeping who wins coin toss along with the win at this Lincoln tournament.  and then take this data at every tournament for the rest of the year.  publish results.

and I will go ahead and predict that the coin flip winner has significantly higher win % than loser, under your new bitch-appeaser system.

I still don't understand why winning a coin toss should be considered to give you some kind of advantage.  the coin flip is just a "starting point", it is supposed to be a "fair start", not an advantage, right?  because, the game should be decided on the field, not in a coin toss, right?

the new rule gives the coin flip winner too much advantage, where there shouldn't even be consideration for an advantage in the first place.  we might as well be sitting around flipping coins to see who wins and just playing TSB for fun on the side.  am I crazy?  I am not trying to be a dick.

I really hope that I am wrong, bruddog.  because it would be wrong to give the coin flip winner any advantage.  the coin toss should just provide a fair starting point.

and to automatically give the coin flip winner P1 is to give them an instant advantage.  for comfort, for onsides, for fumble %, etc.  those are all advantages.

at least in the old system, the coin flip loser had some control of their destiny, being able to choose a team or P1.  not now.  coin flip winner now gets a clear advantage, by automatically getting P1, before anyone even thinks or makes any decisions.

and obviously I don't agree that a coin flip should determine who gets this advantage.

ps- I am talking about win %, not points - points don't mean much to me, as they are very dependent on the teams being played with in TSB.

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 4 - 11:30 AM AT THREE LINKS

TECMO TEXAS has a soft maximum 32-player tournament, meaning we will be prepared to handle a tournament of that size field. If demand leading up to the event exceeds this number, we will accommodate a larger crowd, but at the moment the tournament will be designed for 32 contestants. We reserve the right to modify the format of the tournament depending on factors such as no-shows, contestants leaving early, etc. Any modifications that are made will be made with absolute fairness in mind. All contestants will be guaranteed at least two games before they can be eliminated.

    A few essentials:
**$20 non-refundable entry fee if paid before the day of the event via PayPal (send fee to [email protected]). PayPal is your only way to guarantee entry into the tournament. If any spots are open day of show, the entry fee will be $25 for anyone entering the tournament that day. So pre-pay via PayPal to lock your spot before it fills up and you’ll also save $5.

**Every contestant guaranteed at least two games prior to elimination.

**Top 8 places will pay out prize money and 100% of entry money will go towards these prizes (minus paypal transaction fees that usually equals around $10 total)
IF WE HAVE A FULL 32-CONTESTANT FIELD, that would leave the following prizes:
    1st place - $240
    2nd place - $150
    3rd place - $100
    4th place - $60
    5th place through 8th place - $20 each

RULES, MOSTLY TAKEN FROM THE GOOD FOLKS THAT RUN THE GREAT TECMO MADISON TOURNAMENT:
    1. Team Selection & Coin Toss: A manual coin-flip will precede each game. The coin-flip winner will choose the matchup (i.e. the two NFL teams). The coin-flip loser then selects either (a) one of the two teams or (b) his preferred controller (left or right direction on screen). If the coin-flip loser selects his preferred controller, the coin-flip winner selects a team first.
    2. Customizing Playbooks and Lineup Changes: Customizing playbooks is permissible. You can access your “change” screen (screen where you check player conditions and make substitutions) only twice per half. This helps speed up the games. Tecmo Texas DOES allow contestants to play players out of their natural positions (for example playing a WR at RB or vice versa).
    3. No Ties/Overtime: No game can end in a tie. If a game is tied when regulation concludes, competitors will proceed to OT. If no one scores in the first OT, a new game will begin and the first competitor to score will be declared the winner. So that one competitor does not start with the ball in each OT period, the kicking team in the first OT will be the receiving team in the new game (i.e. the second OT).
    4. Lurching: Lurching is prohibited. If you want to rush with a DL, you must either go outside the offensive tackle or “popcorn” someone on the offensive line. You cannot simply go around your blocker and dive. Note that this rule does not apply to LBs.
    5. Nintendo Malfunctions: If there is an equipment failure in the first half, games will be replayed from the start. If equipment malfunctions in the 2nd half, only the second half is replayed. In that event, the scores from each half are added together to obtain a final score. If the game was uncompetitive or the equipment malfunctioned due to human error (like wildly yanking on the controller in the heat of a Tecmo moment), the tourney organizers reserve the right to declare a winner without replaying any portion of the game.
    6. Tournament Disputes: Brett Strawn, Chris Derow and Chris McDonald are the tournament referees. They will decide all disputes unless one of them is a player in the game.
    7. Controllers: Tournament competitors are not allowed to bring their own controller to use in games. Tournament organizers will coordinate obtaining equipment for the competition.

FORMAT (subject to slight modifications based on field size):
With a 32-contestant field, there will be four 8-player double-elimination brackets. The top 2 finishers in each of the four brackets will advance to a SINGLE-ELIMINATION Final 8.

The FINAL 8 will be seeded, with the standard 1 vs 8, 4 vs 5, 3 vs 6, 2 vs 7 bracket format. Seeding determined by the following criteria:
1st factor - Winning % (there will be four 3-0 players in the Final 8, who will make up the top 4 seeds.
2nd factor - Point differential per game (so feel free to run up the score on your friends, whether they be new friends or old friends)
    3rd factor - Points scored
4th factor - Highest scoring game
    5th - coin flip
PLAYERS - BE SURE TO ARRIVE PROMPTLY AT 11:30 AM FOR CHECK-IN!! (thank you)
WE ARE ON A SCHEDULE, GAMES WILL START AT NOON.

Plenty of parking on Main Street or any of the Elm St. and Main St. connecting streets. One of those, Crowdus is really close to Three Links. Also, Three Links is right next door to Fuzzy's Tacos which comes in handy for such a long event.

THIS HAS TRADITIONALLY BEEN AN APPROXIMATELY 6 - 7 HOUR EVENT. WE WILL TRY OUR BEST TO KEEP THINGS RUNNING SMOOTHLY AND WRAP THINGS UP COMPLETELY BEFORE 7 PM.

GOOD LUCK, AND THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE 4TH ANNUAL TECMO TEXAS TOURNAMENT!

I have officially started working on the next CFL game. This year's Grey Cup was awesome. I have started the rosters and ratings. There were no new teams so it won't take me too long. Hope to have the rosters and sim settings done before Christmas. Only things I will need help with that I know of are:

    1. can anybody update the schedule? CFL teams play 18 games so there would be a couple weeks where teams play more than once to make this fit what is available.
    2. Can anybody update the menus so they say the correct year?

What a great Time i had. Ty to @deadfaulkner @Bad Moon Rison and Ryan Krebs for running it. Congrats to @stalltalk for the victory. Very cool to talk tecmo with @Nameless Loser @suicideking81 Teta ( rams vs eagles wasn't pretty for me in the 3rd place game).
Most interesting game= Was Marshall M. Vs his Buddy in the Elimination round...In a clear case of 2 guys not reading the rule...Marshall starts the game by accidentally kicking the table and causing the game to freeze. Normally this is automatic DQ but they talked it out and decided to reset since it happened very early in the game. Then marshall had the skins and forgot to take Sanders out  of a rb position. Marshall ran run3 vs me like 27 times in game in group play just before.  He was very committed to the run. No difference in the game i watched.  He did not do it on purpose probably a case of not knowing his wr was rb due to 3wr set up. I decided not interfere and let the "tecmo gods" handle the punishments. As Marshall fumbled down 1 just before the start the 4th qtr. Right at this moment they just both proceeded to the bar to drink mid-game. LOL never seen anybody do that before mid-game shot break lol
My games= I won my group play games. Fumbled twice vs bears for scoopers. Game vs marshall was interesting he kept calling right and a. Won 1st elimination game. Then played @tadaos kc over mia. Got some good running going scored then got a garbage fumble and went up 14-0. marino was off. ty for shot afterwards. The Final four was vs @Bad Moon Rison Pats vs Seahawks Back forth game that i lost 14-17. Got the ball back down 3 with minute left and hit a streaker from endzone to get to my own 47 with 4 ticks left. I shoulda got to the 5o but i goobed and my kick was short. The 3rd place i just went for garbage and teta and losed mightly a lot to little.
Sorry i could not stick around to go the beer gardens. I was done for. I drove to new jersey resttop and slept in car till the morning. I got to stop doing that like me and @mort1237 used to in the old days. Ofcourse anytime i get near Nyc i have car problems. I needed a jump on the way back. Listened to lot of football games on way back.

Thanks everyone for the congratulatory messages. It was another great weekend, and tournament in New York.  Huge shout out to Brian for sticking with it after Break screwed you all over. The new venue was perfect and worked out great. Private bar, and two bathrooms in close proximity for those who were shitting their brains out.

More shout outs to everyone else who helped Brian run the tournament. Ryan for keeping the brackets and group play going, Matt for the video productions, and everyone else who helped set up.

I had some pretty close games throughout the day that could have gone either way. And it was awesome playing Brian in the championship game. Great seeing everyone, and meeting some of the new guys. See you all soon.

PS* I stayed with some friends who live in Astoria, and while walking to their place after the tournament, the Break bouncer started yelling at me because I was wearing shorts.
