TOURNAMENT FORMAT (tentative):
First phase: Four, eight-man double-elimination brackets will occur. The top two players in each bracket will go to the Gold Bracket. The eight players that lose their first two games will go to the Bronze Bracket. The other 16 players will go to the Silver Bracket, with their placement in the bracket occurring based on when their second loss happens during the tournament.
Gold Bracket: The eight players that make it out of the first phase will be placed in another eight-man, double-elimination bracket with prizes going to the top four players.
Silver Bracket: The 16 players that do not either finish in the top two places in their bracket, or do not lose their first two games in their bracket, will go to the Silver Bracket. This will be a single-elimination tournament, with prizes going to the top two players.
Bronze Bracket: The eight players that lose their first two matches will be placed in the Bronze Bracket. This will be a single-elimination tournament with the winner receiving prizes.
PRIZES:
1st - $300
2nd - $150
3rd - $75
4th - $50
Silver Champion - $75
Silver Runner-up - $25
Bronze Champion - $25
RAFFLE DRAWING:
In the afternoon, there will be a raffle drawing for various NFL, Tecmo, and Video game-related prizes available. Prices for the raffle tickets and the prizes available will be made available soon. 100% of the raffle prize money will be allocated towards the tournament winnings.
RULES:
1. Team Selection & Coin Toss: A manual coin-flip will precede each game. The coin-flip winner will choose the matchup (i.e. the two teams). The coin-flip loser then selects either (a) one of the two teams or (b) his preferred controller. If the coin-flip loser selects his preferred controller, the coin-flip winner selects a team first.
2. “One Matchup Once” Rule: The coin-flip winner can only select a particular matchup once throughout the entire tournament. For instance, if Player A wins the toss and selects Cardinals-Falcons, Player A cannot call that exact matchup for the rest of the tournament. Player B, however, is free to select that matchup later in the tournament.
3. Customizing Playbooks and Lineup Changes: Customizing playbooks is permissible. You can access your “change” screen (screen where you check player conditions and make substitutions) only twice per half. This helps speed up the games.
4. WR/TE at RB: A WR/TE cannot carry the football unless it is a reverse. You can insert a WR or TE into a RB slot for lead blocking purposes, but he cannot carry the football. To further clarify, players such as Ernest Givins, Ricky Sanders, and Andre Rison cannot carry the football unless it is a reverse.
5. No Ties/Overtime: No game can end in a tie. If a game is tied when regulation concludes, competitors will proceed to OT. If no one scores in the first OT, a new game will begin and the first competitor to score will be declared the winner. So that one competitor does not start with the ball in each OT period, the kicking team in the first OT will be the receiving team in the new game (i.e. the second OT).
6. Lurching: Lurching is prohibited. If you want to rush with a DL, you must either go outside the offensive tackle or “popcorn” someone on the offensive line. Note that this rule does not apply to LBs.
7. Nintendo Malfunctions: If there is an equipment failure in the first half, games will be replayed from the start. If equipment malfunctions in the 2nd half, only the second half is replayed. In that event, the scores from each half are added together to obtain a final score. If the game was uncompetitive or the equipment malfunctioned due to human error, the tourney organizers reserve the right to declare a winner without replaying any portion of the game.

kevincabarello reacted to The Ultimate Weapon in Northeast Ohio Tecmo Quarterly Meetup Group
When I was at the Detroit Kumite tournament last weekend, a number of players from the Cleveland area who I had never met before attended as well and we all had a great time! Many of these guys already get together a few times a year to play casual Tecmo Super Bowl at various venues. I collected emails and some cell phone numbers for players that wanted to provide one. This post is to see who would be interested in getting together potentially quarterly to play Tecmo Super Bowl and perhaps consider doing a Fantasy Football League in the fall for anyone who enjoys both Tecmo and Fantasy Football and lives in or near Northeast Ohio. If this is something that interests you, please message me and provide your email address and cell phone number, as I will be creating a text distribution group in addition to the email distribution list once we finalize the initial details. If you could also let me know ideas for places to meet, how many systems, cartridges, controllers and TVs you would be willing to share with the group, that would also be helpful. The idea is to simply get a group of great guys together semi regularly who enjoy both Tecmo Super Bowl and NFL football. Thanks in advance for your consideration. More to follow after I collect everyone's thoughts and responses. -

We will definitely have some Friday pre-tournament shenanigans going on. It might be at the tourney site (since I'll probably be working there that evening), or if people want to, Columbus has six Barcades that are within a 15 minute drive of the venue. I will put up some hotel info soon.

What up Tecmo Community. I just want to put it out there that this COULD be my last Tournament outside of of the PNW. We are moving back to Seattle at the end of June. Might I fly out for a big tourney someday? Sure, but who knows what the future holds. So its the last chance to battle it up with your boy. I suppose this message is really just aimed at a bunch of fools who already signed up here but have not paid, giving them some wiggle room. But Ryan, Matt D, Matt V, and Chris.... y'all better get your asses to middle of Ohio. And anyone else East of the Mississippi who wants a piece. Get some.
I'm down for some Friday Night Shenanigans as well. Let's make a weekend out of it fellas.

BOUNTY RECAP
First of all. Thanks to everyone who came out. Anyone who comes to a Tecmo Tourney deserves praise, but this was an awesome group, probably the best assemblage of Tecmoers outside of Madison I've ever seen. I'll say best Tecmoers per capita ever! I'm talking about just a great group of guys, but the level of play was off the charts as well.
I apologize for being short with people at times but I was just trying to keep the action moving and I had already discussed the counter-arguments people were presenting with people and with myself endless times! Also there was math involved, which makes me growly.
Special Shout Outs to: The Michigan boys. O'Dell for just bringing a lot of ruckus on all levels. We always have just GREAT matchups. Toolie, you didn't get to bring as much ruckus as you would have liked, but your presence was greatly appreciated. You're one of the greats! Moskwa, it sure seemed like you had the toughest draw, but you made lemonade out of it by parlaying it into a dramatic Loser's Bracket victory. Your facebook hype and chatter leading up to to the event was awesome. If this is our last hurrah gentleman, it was a great ride.
Team Ohio. Kevin and Chris. Kevin stepping up in a major way, cranking through tons of info to help get the tourney rolling. Your reputation as a top player and top dude continue to ascend. Thanks for hangin out after and letting us get some NHLPA '93/Super Spike V'Ball/Little League Baseball/Rampart in. Chris aka Ninja- One of the great Tecmo Ambassadors on the scene. Just love your enthusiasm man. Friday Night Vikes-Eagles game was one of the most hilarious and fun games of all time. Thanks for having fun despite spending more time that you would have liked lampooned on Drummond Island.
Coming from CT Erik aka Arncoem. Thanks for representing the Northeast contingent. Of course we met each other again in the playoffs. I got the W this time, but man you are just a tough tough player. Hope to battle you down the road again.
Representing Indiana Derek aka Tecmo Psycho. Sorry I spelled your handle wrong on the tagboard. Thanks for the kind words. Great playing as usual. I originally planned on not having a 3rd place game and just having the higher seed take it, but then I saw that there was an opportunity to perhaps finally get a W vs you and Paul Bailey made that dope 3rd place Lombardi trophy and I had to play. Wish I hadn't. Fuck Paul Bailey.
Just kidding. Paul! Representing Buffalo in a major way! Knocked off some giants. Thanks for all your contributions. Sorry you had to go early but it sounds like you made a solid call from what I heard. Paul got some play last night y'all!
Lou and Mort! You guys are Buffalo Tecmo and the main reason people came from places far to be a part of this. Mort, you backed me up when I told people you were the favorite. You are the KING of Tecmo! All of us subjects should bow in your presence. Not only that he backed up HIMSELF putting a big fat bounty on his own head, of which only Tim Sliwka got a piece of because Mort got greedy trying to get $25 calling Phoenix in the OG Playbooks round! And he still needed a 70 yd FG with the great Jim Breech to beat you! Lou, your rise through the Tecmo Elite continues. Sorry you had to get dominated by Mort in the end, but great playing as usual. You just bring so much to the table buddy. I can't imagine anyone being more fun to set up a tourney with.
Long Live Tecmo
Thanks to everyone who is helping us keep the torch burning!
