TBORG releases Tecmo Super Bowl 2021 Post Season edition
In a 'better late than never' release, the 13th annual Tecmbowl.org Tecmo Super Bowl edition appears for the first time as a post-season release.  While the rom itself features the typical OG-type ratings you've come to expect, some changes of note have been in updating the graphics and addressing a fairly unnoticed but longstanding issue.
** Pick up the game here **
There are a few complex helmets that have their own design pattern like the Bengals and the Rams.  When the Jaguars came out with their gradient style helmet, the Rams pattern was repurposed for the Jags and the Rams helmet was drawn with the constraints used for most helmets.  As you can see that while the 2005 version of the Rams' helmet does a good job of representing the helmet, it's at the cost of reducing the size of the Rams' horn.

With the Rams unveiling a new helmet and with the Jaguars dropping the gradient back in 2018, this offseason proved to be an opportune time to revert the special design pattern back to the Rams.

What you'll find is a design that attempts to mimic the symmetrical half circle curve of today's Ram helmet while expanding back out towards the edges.
One other longstanding yet seemingly unnoticed issue was the trivial detail of individual player positions not being remapped.  For example, the 2020 Jaguars were updated to have a starting lineup that had 1 RB and 3 WRs.  However, if you drilled down into individual players you'd find that it would pull up positions that didn't match. Thus, WR Dede Westbrook appears as a RB.  This year the players are mapped correctly.

Look for the 14th release of this rom to once again be released in the preseason a few days before the first Thursday kickoff.

Countdown to Tecmo Super Bowl source code (reverse engineered) release date: Dec 13, 2021
Hello all,
Over a period of years I managed to reverse engineer the entire Tecmo Super Bowl game into 6502 assembly source code with every piece of code documented and every variable labeled. There was a potential project in the works with said code but that project looks all but dead now. Because of that I am targeting the 30 year anniversary of TSB as the date I will publicly post all of the reverse engineered source code.

With Covid-19 hitting the US in 2020, annual Tecmo Super Bowl tournaments around the country have cancelled, which included the 13th annual Midwest Tecmo tourney.  However, tourney founder Chris Vogt wasn't content to just wait until 2021 and audibled to an online 24 hour broadcast to continue to benefit former Cincinnati Bengal and Tecmo Great David Fulcher Foundation's fight against multiple sclerosis.
The interactive event will feature several scheduled blocks of loosely defined types of game play to expect as well as ample time for the audience to dictate the play. You won't want to miss the All Day Fulcher block featuring a rom where ever player except for the quarterback is David Fulcher.  Be sure to check back in throughout the tournament as this thing is bound to have lots of twists and turns.

Once again you can donate to the  David Fulcher Foundation here: https://Gofundme.com/Fulcher

Tecmo Super Bowl 2020 - SBlueman Edition [Update 7/25/20]
Team rosters accurate as of 6/28/20!
The classic NES sports title, updated for the upcoming 2020 NFL season! Enjoy this version with the following features:
Players Rated Using Tecmo Super Bowl's Original Player Rankings Playbooks Edited - Plays Moved To Different Slots, Edited Running Plays, Removed 'bad' plays 44 Hacks Added To Hardtype Versions (26 hacks in Vanilla version) Teams Line Up In Either 3-4, 4-3 Or Nickel Defenses Team Uniforms Edited So Home Team Plays In Primary Uniform (NFC West Glitch And Divisional Matchups Limits This Feature)
This is a post-draft edition. Most of the team rosters are accurate with the exception being uniform numbers on the Jets and Patriots. For now free agents are wearing their former numbers and rookies are using their rookie numbers. Keep an eye out for updates and I'd love to get member feedback so let me know what you think!
You will find the .ips patches used in this edit along with the set commands used in attached files. You can edit the Vanilla version with TSB Tool. If you want to edit the Hardtype version you are ok to do so with TSB Tool with the exception of the NFC West teams. Editing the NFC West teams will require you to download and edit the Vanilla version, then re-apply the .ips patches and hardtype set commands. Editing the NFC West teams can cause the game not to run correctly. Make sure to backup your files before making any changes!

The Tecmobowl.org yearly release is just hours before the first game of the NFL kicks off. Probably the most noteworthy item not in our notes is the change in the intro screen of Aaron Rodgers, Todd Gurley, and JJ Watt to Patrick Mahomes, Ezekiel Elliott, and Aaron Donald in addition to a recent Bill Belichick quote.
In addition to ranking the glamour positions like quarterback, running back, and wide receiver each year this is a laundry list of updates which include
updating helmets rating 160 offensive linemen editing the simulation rankings for 800 players editing the jersey numbers for 960 players changing the pro bowl players updating the playbooks and team simulation rankings updating the schedule burning through the rom to check for any crashing bugs
It's a lot of hours but something I enjoy putting together each year with help where ever I can find it. I hope you enjoy it.

TSB Face of the Day
Random silly idea. I'm going to share one face a day that I like for whatever reason, with whatever info and thoughts I have about the player(s) and the face. I'll also share a real pic of the player(s) (unless the face is not used for any player) for comparison.

For as long as I can remember I have never thought that the official North American release day for Tecmo Super Bowl for the NES was known. Wikipedia, your encyclopedia in the cloud has always listed the North American release as "December, 1991" while listing a very specific "December 13th, 1991" for the Japanese release. Any other sort of internet deep dive would come up with the same result: no one listed the specific day on which this game was released. Try searching for "Tecmo Super Bowl release date" on Google or Bing now.  The result is quite different because wikipedia is now different.  I had noticed back in Oct of 2018 that the Tecmo Super Bowl Wikipedia page had been updated with the North American release day.

Deep in the bowels of Tecmo Super Bowl's code one can find that the creators were working on implementing penalties into the game but thankfully never got around to it. There are no offsides or false starts or randomly generated issues. Last but not least, there are no late hits or personal fouls. As a defender there is often times no more satisfying move than to repeatedly dive on your already downed opponent, especially after they manage to score a touchdown.  Diving on your opponent after a touchdown is unique because it's the only time in the game where you can make your opponent fumble after the play is over and this is noteworthy because a fumble erases the stats of the last play.
For a lot of leagues where stats were poured over in an attempt to win a virtual MVP trophy diving on your opponent after a touchdown was illegal and could cause one to be booted out of the league. This seemingly simple hack came about years later when someone thought to ask if you could turn off fumbles after a score and Bruddog came through with the hack. Now people can pound their opponent with no mercy and with no guilt.

Moving the Goal Posts: A Hack for Classic NFL/AFL Roms
Prior to 1912 there was no end zone and the goal line and end line were the same.  With the introduction of the forward pass, the end zone was devised as a way for a receiver to catch a ball inbounds. Goal posts remained on the goal line until 1927 when they were moved to the back of the endzone. While they remained there in the college game the NFL in 1933 moved them back to the goal line until 1974 when they were once again moved to the end line.

Thus Super Bowls 1-8 plus any AFL seasons would have goalpost located at the front of the endzone and @fgqb#19nyj was kind enough to put together a tutorial on how to easily add this to your custom rom.

With the CFL Mid Season here I decided to do an update to this great rom. I have added the hack to help ball carriers to crash through the line better. I have also changed the NFL all star team to include the original TSB all stars!  I have uploaded 2 roms again, and there are now 7 ninute quarters!

This game, Tecmonster’s Tecmo Super Bowl 2019, is based on the original Tecmo Super Bowl that we all know and love, but has been hacked and edited to a revolutionary extent!  To create the player ratings, I feed their Madden ratings into a spreadsheet of my own formulas that then spits out Tecmo-compatible ratings.  You might also notice that I’m actually using the “Running Power” attribute as a dynamic category for offensive players instead of just assigning every player a 69 rating, as in the original game (which was, in my opinion, simply an oversight by the creators, or maybe just a shortcut to finish the game faster).  I also changed its name to “Acceleration” because that’s its real function.
I'm planning to release the annual magazine that typically accompanies this game by Sunday night.
