Manyo will return...but only with 29 upvotes on this post. No more, no less. That works perfectly because there are exactly 29 true believers in HSTL who have been awaiting his return. Let's make this happen. By the way, we hit 29, and some heathen savage upvotes to 30, I will find you and I will force you to watch a Sex and the City marathon. That's the most brutal thing I can think of.

    Joey gats to madison fund

Ok. I had a long conversation with Joe and we will give this a try. Here is the background. About five or six years ago my own issues with depression nearly got me to kill myself. I nearly threw myself off a large incline in a fit of rage with the people i had gone to for help. I have many issues with ECMC hospital besides that incident. The point was I was antisocial to a T back before I went to my first tourney. The process of breaking myself out of that and suicidal depression wasn't easy. Tecmo helped a lot and playing live helped a lot. Joe is the same age I was and has many of the same problems. Which is why I am convinced. You read his post about how he understands things are wrong. Yet at the same time he has been burnt by people trying to be his friend. A stolen car and stolen money most likely are the tip of the iceberg. He also understands that winning Madison won't change his life. Making better friends of all of us will. Which is why I am asking for people to donate 20 dollars apiece to support his journey and entry to Madison. Your entry buys a bus fair to Cleveland round trip. He will then carpool with my brother in my car to keep costs down. He will split a room with Louis, myself and El Tecmo. Of course he asks that in the time before the tourney he be allowed to play as many games as possible. We will also need to buy a nes controller and a nes adapater so he can practice with tpc games as he gets ready. 40 dollars for entry fee. Also some grub money. all this will run around 450 dollars. Anything more I will pay or he will. In the meantime I have given him some new job goals and life goals to get him out of the low wage trap he has been in. Hoepfully with our encouragement and a bit of luck he can make something good of himself. Anyways if you want to send a 20 dollar share. or more. Please send it via paypal to [email protected] The payback we agreed to was that in the event of 1st place he would pay back all of the sponsor ship money. In any other position we will allow him to keep the winnings to help him out with various life needs he may have. Thank you for your consederation Francis Buennagel PS. This is a serious effort. I expect there to be not one post in a non serious manner. donations recievied xxxxx $50 xxxxx $50 xxxxx $40 xxxxx $20 xxxxx$50 xxxx $50 xxxx $20 xxxx $50 xxxx $20 xxxx $40 xxxx $50 xxxx $20 xxx $20 xxxx $30 total 510 of 510 nes controller 8.95 usb nes adapater 13.75 madison entry fee 40 money order $41 shipping fee $5.8 shirt $5 bus ticket 30.5 money order 61 total 206

ATL Prime This eagles team doesn't seem as fearsome as some in years past with no real field stretching WR. This team is pretty balanced and Eagles is probably behind the best OL he's ever had. If not for getting the RAI DL I'd say this would be a wasteful pick. The Kinard/Pinkett pick didn't seem to help the team much. I think another offensive weapon would have been the choice there. Still this team should be able to improve upon a 2-14 season to forget. Grade B+ IND Drake Solid team led by the Neal Carrier tandem. This team added more nice defensive pieces with fellow chi DL friends, and SS Gayle. Talley and O'Neal make for a nice LB combo. The only deductions come from the Schroeder and glasgow picks. Schroedy without fast wr's is dangerous. Anthony Miller doesn't quite cut it at 44ms and Glasgow will be a nice low int target for an otherwise studly secondary. This team is bit heavier on D than last year's drake team but will the passing problems rear their ugly head again? Grade B+ BUF Hoff I questioned the Dalton Hilliard pick to go with Montana fearing it would leave the defense in pretty bad shape. But BUF did a pretty good job getting value in later rounds to make for a patchwork defense led by DL Green, CB Odomes, and LB Swilling. Montana Hilliard, Clark should generate plenty of points. Hoff looking to rebound with a much studlier offense. Grade A- NYJ Hock Yet another team in the top five form the AFC East. Bo and Eddie Anderson is a lethal pair to start with. Hock filled out this team nicely with a blocking RB with 44rec, another 50 rec rb. a 44 69 wr and a strong OL. The defense also sports a lot of speed and enough int with cofer, hacket, seale and oliver. The only weak link is 19 ms noodle arm rosenbach. Luckily with Bo he will likely only be taking deep shots and throwing to open guys. Hock goes away from a JJ bombing team so that will be an interesting change. Grade: A K.C Manyo Manyo looking to repeat his title magic with a very similar team. I always feel like Elway is overdrafted when you can get an 81 31 guy rounds later with two notches less of speed but I can't deny the result manyo had and he put together the correct team around elway. Two burn route specialists in duper and graddy and block/catch FB Mack n Jack. Defense will be the two stud approach Byrd and offerdahl with 50int gDB drones and the weak CIN DL and weak LB's. But those two studs should be enough to slow the opposing offense down. Can the champ recapture his magic? Grade: A S.F Bruddog Couldn't pass up a chance to pick Fulcher and his pal James Brooks. The defense was further solidified with nickleback LB Clifton and OL wrecker Bruce Smith. The fearsome threesome. Lake some decent DB pals make the secondary tough one to throw one. The offense is a balanced attack with two 44 69 targets including nocek for extra blocking. 94 hp haddix will be on KR and LB mauling duties. Meanwhile whiskey wade will have time to drink from his flask behind one of the best OL's. SF just miss out on a stud WR and also then a decent 56ms WR that would have made this team exactly what I wanted. But those fast WR misses knock this team down just a peg. It's almost a stone cold lock that this team will finish with more than the 6 wins from last year. Haven't had a RB this fast since season pre retirement ~s17. Grade: A- MIA Kamp Kamp also went with another one of the beastly RB/DB tandems in Haddix Anderson. He was able to snag the last WR stud in flipper anderson which is a massive upgrade for the team. Ironhead adds nice blocking and kick returning duties and Kamp also grabbed a nice OL to run and pass behind with Wilhelm at the helm. Francis, Lock hart and SF DL provide some additional run support although a high HP RB could creat some havoc with a few of the low HP defenders. Look for Kamp to rebound from last season. Grade: A War Machine PIT War Machine gets a real offense to use led by Barry Sanders. He stole Tim Brown from me who will help stretch the field should people load up on Barry and is a good target for Young's 56ps. Carrier and a couple of 81bc backs round out the offense. The defense doesn't have a big int guy but Green, White, Agnew and Vaughn Johnson provide numerous options. The OL and Harbaugh are the only weak links. Expect a big turnaround in the record after controlling the offensively challenged redskins last year. Grade A- Jesus DAL Well Chaos lucked into one of the steals of the draft IMHO getting Sharpe And Harris a few picks before me. The offense is lethal with Bills, Sharpe, Duncan and 44ms sydney plus multiple 38ms backs behind the mammoth MIA OL. Good luck. The defense also has 4 controllable options in cross, harris, collins and holt. Yikes. The division is tough though but I think this squad is enough to push chaos back above .500 Grade: A 10 JP T.B JP lost some big value by not taking the Sharpe/Harris combo and instead opted for Gault. The offense will be very potent with 44MS Carter, Riggs for blocking and brooks and Ernie jones to compliment Browns. PHX OL brings the team down a notch with two 38 HP OL. The 50MS returner is nice but not super useful in an offense this potent. The problem is the defense suffered badly. Ronnie Lippet is going to have to do everything or with freddie joe nunn being used in a pinch with favorable conditions. Grade: B- 11 Gamehigh S.D On to our third straight QB led team with Moon leading the charge. Gamehigh went the super stud WR route grabbing 56 75 81 bc givins. The offense was rounded out nicely with block and catch muster, slaughter and a fenerty being the 44ms back. Like peters the defense suffered pretty badly here. With Mike johnson and NT gerald williams as the only real controllable players. Muster and Wollford were likely overdrafted for how much use they will have. This secondary will probably give up as many passing yards as the offense throws for. Gamehigh outperformed his point differential in wins. Moon to Givins will be worth a few but I think it will be hard to for him to to top last seasons win total. Grade: B- 12 Ziur WAS This team was looking near perfect until zuir decided not to get a 44pc qb for some reason instead going for 38pc walsh and 25ms 38 hoss to play the conditions games. Still Bailey and Rison behind the NO OL will be a tough offense to stop. The defense has 3 controlleable guys with with Stinson, Singletary and Ben Smith but is a bit thin beyond that. Zuir can definitely improve on 6-10 with this squad but a few extra ints from the 38pc qbs may prove costly. Grade A- 13 SirTed DEN Rockin Rodney has two speedy targets in sanders and ingram. Ted got some good value early but this team feels like less than the sum of its parts to me. Without a 56+ RB and a weak OL the run game may not do enough to take pressure of peete and allow the speedsters to run free. Bob, Waymer and Pepper are a nice defensive threesome with some decent good drones in the secondary. Can ted get over the 7-9 hump this season. It's gonna be a close call yet again I think. Grade: B+ 14 Keirre MIN Marino, Allen and Jeffries make for likely the best offense in the league with the triplets. They get a solid OL to work behind and kierre added some nice complimentary piece. 81bc WR stone, 50MS collins, 56hp 56rec holohan and 44ms RB green. The defense is the weak link especially the secondary with 44,44,38,31 int defenders but kerrie at least got tow guys with speed to use in 38 44 31 int lb little and 38 44 38int db washington. But he will likely only need one stop a game with this team. Keirre 3 season record is 24-23 but I think this team will push him above .500 at 9 or 10 wins. Grade: A 15 Dolo GIA If someone actually drafted Dolo a real team who knows what he could do. Dolo COULD of made this offense work but got stuck with the TB OL again. This is O.K when you have an uber back and B combo but its going to stall this offese at timeswith no player greater than 50MS. Otis seemed like a pretty big given the other options on the board as greg jackson is just a drone. Defense is decent with Rod-God and Harvey and some decent drones. TB OL cost him his usual 9 win season last year and I think it might cost him more this year. Grade B- 16 Carnage PHI Regulator has made the draft multiple RB strategy work but I don't think it provided as much value in this draft format. If Carnage can make the two RB playbook work or use Gary at WR then maybe my grade is wrong. If not it left him with holes elsewhere. The WR's and TE Jones have decent hands but are slow which might make Deberg blitzes worthwhile. At least Deberg will be able to stand behind a strong offensive line. The defense is a one man show with Mayhew. Reasons was good value but he's slow so he's a situational use based on play call or conditions. The defensive drones seem below average. I think this team will test Carange's skill. Grade B- 17 Player G.B Yet another multi back plan but two 56ms backs that can both catch works better on offense. The Majik man was pretty good value and he will have at least one speedy player to run under his lobs. RB Keith Byars will likely be the third target as the actual WR's on this team are awful. The PHI OL is a bit of a hit as it has two 38hp guys but they can probably be hidden to minimize the impact. The defense ended up solid with the PHI DL, Banks, and walls and Allen giving the D 4 options and thus a fair amount of speed. Wymon Henderson is a skid mark on an otherwise nice set of drones. K mike Lansford will also likely lose a game this season. Grade B+ 18 Stalltalk HOU Vinny and Rice and Haley. You can stop reading now. The rest of the draft was almost irrelevant after those three picks. Vinny with Rice is death by bomb or death by scramble. 44MS Woodside and 2 other 38ms backs will let Stall play conditions or not be in dire straights if woodside gets injured. Rest of the WR's are weak but if you have rice they shouldn't be getting many throws anyways. OL is one of the weaker ones but again with Vinny's speed and Rice's speed and Vinny's slow passes you don't need to hold the ball for long. Might cause a few issues on runs but this is a team where you don't need a stud OL. Haley, Lee and Williams provide plenty on D. Grade A 19 Grip RAI Probably would have taken the Hill, Childress pick from Grips slot but looks like he wanted a D based squad this year. His defense rivals and may surpass mine with MIN DL, D.Thomas, Spielman, Dick dick and 56int Drone Robinson. Yards should be hard to come by. Catch and KR back Cobb gets a 50MS KR speed meaning the Raiders will likely start with good field position. I''d be surprised if Tolliver gets much work as 19bc 44ms White won't have many people picking run. 31 ps Reich to paige is a ok jj combo. But the random number generator or having to go out of bounds too much with White likely determines this teams outcome. A better kicker might have been nice given this team will likely stall out a fair amount. Grade B+ 20 Jfag CLE There will be a lot of condition watching on this team with 2 44pc qbs and 2 44 ms rbs that can catch and 3 receiving targets very close in value. This is the Vikings revamped. 56 75 AC is the engine of this offense. Meanwhile the backs and QB's get to work behind the mammoth KC OL which makes its own holes sometimes. The Defense is solid with Browner, Millard, and Atwater and Minnfield being high quality drones. MIA K/P gives this team an awesome special teams. Grade: A 21 Ryanp RAM Ryan has gone all the way over to the dark side with Kreig to Ellard a true back and B masterpiece. THe offense was rounded out with the typical 44 ms back and some standard offensive drones that likely won't get too much work. Ryan's tapping ability will help near the goalline where Kreig's 25ps becomes an issue. Nickleback LB Merriweather was a great value pick and greene and Mcdonald give the rams the ability to get a fair number of stops. Greg Davis is a weak kicker but Rams likely won't be kicking two many FG's Grade: A 22 Daboy N.E Daboys can probably make this team greater than the sum of its parts. Boomer Emmitt and Vance are the pats triplets. The rest of the offense is pretty slow with edmunds and jensen getting a lot of work. The OL is also not great with 3 44 HP guys. THe DL is one of the worst but the LB's are solid with dual purpose LB LLoyd and situational use 31 44 mecklenburg. DB's are a pretty rag tag bunch with fast but 44 int Manny Hendrix leading the bunch. It's pretty similar to last year's squad but going from Barry to Emmitand having one less controllable DB is a pretty big downgrade. Grade B 23 Toolie DET I've typically ripped on Okoye up until the last few years where the stats have proven out that his 94 HP does make a him more than a glorified 50MS back. Tapping ability unlocks even more of his value. TD Maker Baker is the field stretcher for this offense to run under millers or pagels lobs. Toolie will likely rotate those Qb's in and out pretty freely depending on conditions or game situation. Marv Cook is the second target and adds some blocking for okoye. The OL is just good enough for this offense though the two 44hp guys might be an issue on occasion. LT and Byrd make for the best 1/2 LB punch in the the league. Watch out. The secondary has one controlleable guy in woodruff and is paired with two other 56 int drones. Kicker Kuric is weak but again I'm not expecting too many FG's. Grade: A 24 Diaz CIN And yet another two RB team but diaz got two DB studs to go along with the mythical Johnny Johnson and Mike Rozier. Diaz likely has the tapping to make the two rb playbook work and he must since neither Rb is an overwhelming WR target. Diaz also went with the double QB combo to play conditions although it left the rest of the offense pretty bare as the other WR targets are close to Pit level which equals not good. At least Diaz wisely grabbed a solid OL with a 44MS returner to work behind. Shane Conlond give some extra run protection for the 1-2 safety punch of lonnie and deion. Diaz should be able to shut down run based attacks well but with two 38 int dbs and his studs topping out at 56int back and b could be a problem. Eddie Murray sucks and Diaz said no kicking is planned so we will leave him out of the draft grade. Diaz can make this work but it wouldn't for most. Grade B 25 Nos N.O The Lott Rathman pick was probably the strangest of the round by far for me. There seemed to be much better value still sitting around. He can be used okay as a kick returner and extra blocker/WR but he only has a 44MS RB to block for behind a middling line. Everett to Meryvn is what will make this offense go. Joyner give nos some up the middle run support and Lott is a force but his 50int leaves something to be desired. Al Del greco is a turd that might cost a game. The team just seems to be missing a piece. Grade B 26 Vikingmoe PHX HSTL champ Moe was the beneficiary of some other picks and Hill and Childress dropped in his lap. He nicely paired this with the last 63ms back Humphrey making this offense a nightmare to try and stop. Moe filled it out with a 44 44 qb a blocking back and a Ol with a 44MS returner. Points should come easily for Moe. The DB's are again a concern with 38 44 44 int dennis smith being the only controllable guy. But coverage LB snow and childress are a formidable 1-2 punch. Special teams are VERY nice with the leahy prokop combo. Moe probably should have sacrificed something else not to get stuck with Grogan on the off chance Eason gets hurt at the wrong time. That prevents the A grade. Grade A- 27 GoNick This team feels like a downgrade from last years team for gonick. Other than Simms its feels like every player is just good enough. Clayton and Barnett make for middling targets and 44 MS Thomas runs behind a decent OL sans one 38HP guy who is hideable. Defense is a one-2 punch with brown who cant cover and McMillian. The DB drones are good with 50 int. Defniitely a grind it out kind of team. Grade B+ 28 Dukesta Reed Thurman are the high horsepower engine for this offense. LVP Aikman gets to stand behind the hoggs. Sherrard and Jackson provide even more speed for the offense. With Duketa's tapping this offense should score plenty. However the DB's are likely the worst in the league. With romo and bennet and his tapping duke can likely shut down the run but when he doesn't pick the right pass its likely back and B central. The extra offense wasn't needed and clock management and playcalling will be vital as dukesta will likely be in a lot of shootouts. Grade: B

Here's a few of my quick thoughts on TecmoXII. Read Psycho's blog if you want a good one. His recap is always great and this year was no exception. Good: Gats winning it & playing lights out all day. "The Kid" & Kyle coming out of nowhere! Sega's Bo-igi Board (full beers only please) Meeting Leif Powers, super nice guy. Hopefully a bunch of you guys got to chat him up. The large number of tight pants & attractive girls around the tourney for once (JimSock's friend's old lady wins, blonde TV gal 2nd, tight pants TV 3rd, pregnant orenga posse member was a serious darkhorse as well) Luke having a 20 minute convo with our cab driver while piss drunk discussing (our fictional 2nd & 3rd place finishes, kids, astrology, college life, & other amazing topics) Wish I had recorded it! Dave hugs (duh) Late night gyros with Luke, Coco, & Beefy (probably saved our lives, no food would have been a bad choice) #BurningMort - just watching the mail now for my July 23, 2016 "save the date" magnet. Casey's breakfast pizza (seriously how can Wiscy have no Casey's? #EPICFAIL) Thankfully we made Dubuque by around 10. Knobbe bringing his "9 incher" so we could play tecmo during the car ride up. It was awesome meeting a bunch of new guys (Flash, Raguse, DT, SuperDuper, Invader, Grip, Laz, probably missing a few) and seeing all the old friends again. Looking over late Friday night, realizing I'm in a room playing Gats while Mort plays Bruddog on the other TV. (Tecmo heaven?) The whole tourney and the way it was always ran through the years. Just an awesome job again everybody that helps out!!! Bad: No sleep friday night Forgetting my "eat shit orenga" bracelet at home Iowa's speed limits from the 1970s Bailey having to leave early & not getting to chat at the Plaza (hope everything's cool now) Knobbe bailing on us and flying home so we couldn't play tecmo on the way back Thinking Flo was short for some reason Super 8 TV being smarter than me My photo/camera bomb of Orenga's ESPN interview that never made air. My ebay ordered Moulds jersey not making it in time (dude says he "lost it", wtf) No Butt Douglas or Lodgefather to watch the Elite 8 games with. Ugly: Cute bartender (aka fancy pants) Friday night after I ask if she was working during the tourney, "yeah, but I heard you guys are kinda smelly" (she's not wrong) Dotdon's intoxication level (love you man, but you were in rare form!) Toolie's playbook vs Mort Lou on Friday night (Chris Pike blows that shitty reverse up everytime!) Sorry I was drunk and giving you so much shit. (not really sorry) Tick "holding" Regulator to 49 points. One of the better tweets of the day! Sega forgetting his Mydol and not going out Saturday night Not getting out of bounds to attempt a FG in the winner's bracket champ game, then losing the OT coin toss & game. (GG Matt) Two non-drinkers and (probable) virgins playing in the finals (maybe its for the best to shut this thing down now) - jk Thanks for the memories and hangovers Madtown!!!!

My brother Mike and I will be making our Tecmo Madison debuts this weekend. Neither of us has ever played in a tournament, so we figured we'd start with the biggest and best. In fact, we've probably played 95 percent of our Tecmo games over the years head-to-head against each other. We are fully prepared for the possibility of going 0-2 and spending the rest of the day cheering on the field, although we are actively hoping to defy the odds and make a surprise run. Either way, this trip is a dream come true. I'm traveling from Erie, PA, and meeting my brother in Chicago before heading to Wisconsin. We will be staying with friends just outside of Madison, so I'm not sure if we'll make the Friday early registration, but we will definitely be there on Saturday. I recently found a letter I wrote to Santa at age 8 asking for "Super Tecmo Bowl or Tecmo Super Bowl" (apparently I wasn't sure on the official name.) Santa came through in the Christmas of '92, and more than 20 years later, my brother and I still spend time over holidays playing our own mini Tecmo tournaments against each other. When I first saw the documentary piece a few years ago, my brother and I joked that we should go someday. Then when I heard this was our last shot, we decided to make it happen. I am a high school English teacher. When I tried to explain to my students why I was not going to be in school on Friday, I got a mix of enthusiasm, support, and "What is Tecmo Super Bowl?" questions. After explaining to a generation of kids who do not know a pre-Madden world of football video games about Tecmo's historical significance and the legend of Tecmo Bo Jackson (he's the reason I am a Raiders fan, after all), they're pretty excited for me. Anyway, I look forward to meeting and competing against others who have grown up with Tecmo like my brother and me. Here's to a fun weekend! We'll see you all soon! Sincerely, Matt Hubert

    New Site Preview!

There are still some items on my "to do" list for phase two, though I am burning out honestly from the amount of time this baby has been taking up...so am just about ready to call the initial project a wrap. I've been working on ensuring my front end will play nice with the existing back end, and am finally pretty confident that the transition from old to new won't break anything. Though shit can always happen. Brooks has been really helpful, as has hoff. War and Hoff have volunteered to do some testing and I will probably get with them soon with the test site so they can try to locate any bugs before rolling out for public review. Then it's just a matter of finalizing 34, getting the latest data and figuring out how best to make the transition. Though we will sort it out I'm sure. I don't see why it shouldn't be ready before 35. Without further ado, here are a few screen caps using season data (from several weeks ago). I may post some more tomorrow if anyone is interested. These were taken at 1920px...those on lower res screens will get everything in the frame, though will lose the player sidebars. Sorry I know the file size is a bit ridiculous. Yes, some of the old timers may notice the tip of the hat to the old Tecmo Elite site. I decided to keep some of the elements since so many people appreciated the format.

    Hats off to the HOFF

Here we are 8 weeks into the 34th Season of HSTL, and I for one am pretty impressed with the new commish that literally stepped up to solve a problem that at the time really looked to be bleak to say the least. Who would have thought that the anti drama, reasonable deadlines, and strict but fair handling of owners would work.... Crazy right.... in defense of others who have commished (Diaz) less douchebagary seems to be the solution for now. Hoff thanks man for stepping in and running shit like a champ!

(After some more thinking, I thought I'd do a more comprehensive guide to a Madison First Timer. So, this is my advice to the world of rookies) The Comprehensive Guide to Being a Madison Tecmo Rookie Hello. If you're reading this, you're likely signed up for Madison Tecmo XI: Apocalipps Now. Congrats. Many of you have played in this grand championship before, but there are plenty who have not. For those who have not, here are bits and pieces of collected wisdom for anybody making their debut. Before we get to the point by point gibberish, this needs to be said- You're not going to win the tournament. Seriously man. I know you're good and I respect that. But you're not going to win the tournament. But, but, but, but... No. You're not going to win the tournament. I cannot stress this enough. You're not going to win the tournament. On the morning of Tecmo XI, there are probably 225 or so (give or take) of the 256 contests whom you could look in the eyes as they arrive and tell them with a straight face "You have absolutely no shot to win this thing." (And that's not me trash-talking by any stretch. Believe me, I'm very firmly one of those 225 guys on the outside). What I've found in my X number of years in this tourney is that the guys who come in truly believing they'll be crowned champion, despite never having played in Madison (let alone another tourney), tend to be the jerks that everyone remembers. I've always believed that we will never see an unknown or first-timer come in off the street and win this tourney. If you're making your debut and you're psyching yourself up and dreaming of raising the trophy, the faster you get that out of your head, the faster you'll actually enjoy the experience. "The experience" is the key phrase here. Outside of those 20-30 guys who could conceivably win the tourney, the real draw of Madison is the experience of it. Until you see a swarm of 400+ people surrounding 30+ televisions for 12 hours, you can't yet appreciate the electricity or the IMMENSE PRESSURE of playing in these games (this isn't you and Smitty from college drinking a 12er and playing a 7 game series on a Wednesday. Your heart will be pumping from the moment you arrive). For those of us who can't win, there's a list of 7 "Goals" you should follow on March 7: 1) Have fun. There are 256 pretty cool guys (give or take who all love playing the same game that have gathered together. Embrace that. Talk to them. Buy someone a drink, chat about strategy, past tournaments, yadda yadda yadda. The most important thing you should take away from Madison when you wake up on Sunday was "Damn, that was a lot of fun." 2) Pay attention. So, you're a rookie. You're not going to win (have I mentioned that yet?). But that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to walk away from the tournament as a better player. When you're not playing, watch other games. Examine the playbooks people use. Keep a vague tally of matchups you see called that make you go "Hmmm, interesting. I may try that one." See how guys hit hot routes on called plays. Watch some of the better defensive players in the tournament and pay attention to who they use on defense and the angles they use to stop plays. If you liked how some guy played and want to emulate their style, wait until some point in the day when you see them not deep in conversation and then introduce yourself. Tell them you admire their play. Pick their brains, ask questions. Don't get clingy (nobody likes a tagalong), but use those 12 hours of Tecmo to take in as much advice (and booze) as possible. (Notice how the "Goals" haven't yet mentioned anything about your own gameplay?) 3) Win a game. This should be the base goal of every player in the tourney. Win a game. 25% of the field will go 0-2. If you win a game as a rookie, you should walk away from the day feeling proud, regardless of how the rest of your tourney played out. 4) Win 2 games. So you won a game. Nice job. Think about what worked for you in that game and what didn't. Make an adjustment and try to win a 2nd game. I mentioned 25% of the field will go 0-2. Important to note that another 25% will go 1-2. That means if you can win 2 games, you finished ahead of 50% of the field. That's nothing to scoff at for a first timer. It's a huge deal, actually. Walk around with your head held high. 5) Make the bracket. You have to go either 3-0 or 3-1 to make the final 64. Assume that roughly 40-45 of those spots can be written in pen (we all know who they are), so that leaves between 19 and 24 or so spots truly up for grabs. A large bulk of those will be claimed by guys who don't have the capacity to win the whole thing, but have previous Madison experience, so they overcame the intimidation to make the cut. If you can claim one of those last remaining spots as a rookie, you need to be very, very proud of what you accomplished. If you don't make the bracket, who cares. Stick around and watch the games, make friends, enjoy the atmosphere. 6) Win your own "Super Bowl." This goal falls under both Pool Play and Bracket Play. The 225 of us who cannot win the entire tournament have to focus on smaller, step-by-step battles. We won't make the championship, but there's a really good chance you are going to play someone who's in that elite category. That's your Super Bowl. That's the big one. If you can knock a big name out, man, who gives a shit if you win it all at that point, ya know? You ruined so-and-so's day! You're a giant killer! A couple years ago I faced off against Chris Vogt in the opening round of 64. I KNEW that was my Super Bowl. I played that game like a motherfucker and came up 4 pts short. But I felt good afterwards (mostly because Chris is a solid human being and that made for a really fun game), because I got a chance to go heads-up with a big name and I took him to the wire. We all know who some of the big fish are, so no need to name names and start little turf wars about who is "a name" and who isn't. That's not the point. The point is you'll just KNOW when you're about to go up against a monster. That's your Super Bowl. Embrace it. 7) The last and final goal, Don't be a jerk. Tecmo is a Gentleman's Game. This isn't the Madden Nation tour bus on ESPN from a few years ago where guys swing their dicks in each others' faces after scores. Celebrate properly when something good happens, don't flip out when something bad happens. That's Tecmo. We've all been there. Shake hands after the game and move on. Have fun. Both in playing the game and enjoying the surroundings. In past years, the Herd Mentality of the collective group can tell who the jerks are. Don't be one of them. Hopefully this all helps and doesn't come off as too preachy. Just know that, as a rookie, the experience and atmosphere is the biggest thing you'll take away from this. I started playing in this tournament many years ago when I was still a Milwaukee/Chicago guy. I've lived in New York for 3 years and have gone back every single year. Not because I think my name can be etched in the Hall of Champions, but because it's fun as hell. Hopefully you'll walk out of the Badger Bowl on Saturday evening feeling the same way.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly coming at you...... perspective from a Beautiful (Tecmo) Mind. This post better get 27 likes if you want a playoff preview AFC East New York Jets: Not familiar with the Hock, but his lifetime record of 12-24 leaves me not shocked at his team. Heavy pass threat, and minimal running ability with a 1 1/2 man defense. This is a team that will accidentally win some games because Bills is bound to connect to Monk/Sanders more than a few times. The question is can they hold offenses under 21 to squeak a few W's out? I don't disagree with dirty Tecmo's beard, but I disagree with his draft grade on this team. Draft Grade: C Prediction: 4-12 Buffalo Bills: I've never been a fan of Krieg, but I love the compliment Barry..... Strong Rec help in Clark/Clayton will offset that horrendous PS (is everyone familiar with how useful PS is?) Anyway, minus picked plays, this offense should have no troubles scoring. The defense is..... suspect. The saving grace is the one man wrecking crew named Prime. The whole field can be covered, it's just a matter of if he brings his sticky fingers. Not sure of Hoff's talent, but he has a solid team. Draft Grade: A- Prediction: 8-8 Indianapolis Colts: Another name I'm unfamiliar with, Drake brings a pretty solid team to the table. Running threat with Vinny along with a serviceable RB in Thomas. The crappy OL is forgivable with Testicles mobility. The defense is pretty stout with LT leading the way and 2 usable DB's in Walls/Collins. You have to know how to utilize Vinny in order to make this team successful..... a fast WR would have been the icing on the cake here.... Draft Grade: B+ Prediction: 6-10 (Vinny is a special breed..... it's hard to score inside the 10 with running QB's) Miami Dolphins: KampTuna or TurboTuna leads the Tuna into season 36 with what I would consider an average Joe's squad. No real superstar minus Butts, who will have to carry the load for this offense to put points on the board. The defense will be strong against the run, but struggle against passing teams (hello Bills and Jets) Kamp has improved drastically over the years and has the capability of leading the fins to the playoffs. He will undoubtedly need some luck along the way though. Draft Grade: C+ Prediction: 9-7 New England Patriots: This team is essentially the same as the Dolphins except their stud is on defense instead of offense. A lack of speed on the offense is going to put some pressure on Dukesta to be efficient and minimize mistakes. Points will be few and far between.... on both sides of the ball. The defense is stout boasting a Millard/Browner combo effectively able to stop any offensive combination out there..... This will be a fun team to watch. Draft Grade:B- Prediction: 12-4 AFC Central Pittsburgh Steelers: I see a lot of single digit scoring games in the future of Steel city...... Good land o' liven that offense is wretched and that defense is DYN-O-MITE. The only question is will the defense outscore the offense this year? Seriously, if Ninja can figure out how to move the ball with his discombobulated band of misfit 44 MS players, he could be a real force. The defense led by...... everyone?..... will keep him in contention every game. Draft Grade: C (I'll have what you were smoking when you passed on Eagles/Jackson) Prediction: 5-11 Cincinnati Bengals: That beautiful beard boasts what I consider to be the best team in HSTL this year. That offense will make defenses bend over and grab those ankles all season long. Run it up the middle.... bend over. Throwin it deep..... bend over. Offerdahl/Johnson/Williams are just enough to get the 1 or 2 stops needed each game to get the W. Fuck this team.... thank you for being in the AFC Draft Grade: A+ Prediction: 12-4 Cleveland Browns: Mitchell -> Hill = garbage. OK, we all know how I feel about this type of offense, but it is actually a well put together team. The Mitchell/Hill combo along with 2 44MS RB's gives Jfag some flexibility to what he wants to do on offense. He can grind or pop it deep at any time. The defense again has 2 solid pieces in Byrd/McMillan. Jfag is good enough to make this defense work. Key point of the season will be the 2 games against Cincinnati. I think the Brownies have to sweep the series to win the division. Draft Grade: B+ Prediction: 10-6 Houston Oilers: The AFC Central could easily be considered the most talented division in HSTL. Another well put together team. Stalll built a great offense with a running QB complimented by a decent RB and fast WR. Lethal.... the defense is backed by Francis/Spielman/Fulcher, a perfect combination to nullify any and all offensive threats. The only thing holding this team back is Stalltalk himself. We have seen him go 13-3 and win Superbowls in other leagues, and we have seen him go 5-11 and look like a Tecmo noob. Which version shows this season? Draft Grade: A- Prediction: 8-8 (only cause this division is lit with juice) AFC West Denver Broncos: WOOF.... This team is in rough shape. I would be hard pressed to pick pass on defense. Yes Tim Brown is fast which is nice to create a downfield threat, but Elkins/Strom throwing to him? Leaves a lot to be desired. I would understand the lackluster offense if the defense boasted more than DT/Oliver. They have the potential for creating havoc on offenses, but a great passing team will eat this D up. Draft grade: D Prediction: 5-11 Kansas City Chiefs: For the strong defense this team put together, the offense is quite adequate. A good balance of a fast RB and mixed with the deep JJ threat gives Coco the slight edge over Cincinnati for my AFC favorite right. A Haley/Lake/Waymer combo on defense allows for strategic placement and options on defense. With the tapping advantage over most, running will be difficult. I don't see many teams putting up over 14 on Josh this season. If he can average 20/game, I think you have your #1 seed. Draft Grade: A Prediction: 13-3 Seattle Seahawks: I have to admit that I look through teams one at a time as a write reviews..... HSTL beware.... This team rocks. The Ware/Byner/Clark combo on offense is right up Gonicks's grind out yards mentality. Personally, I have always had difficulty with Gonick's disciplined approach towards offense. Gonick with Ware will make you pull your hair, I know, I have none down the middle of my head (the real reason i quit tecmo 6 months ago. I was always in a division with him). Back to Seattle, even if the offense falters, the defense will pick up the slack. Scary scary defense with I Had Dicks patrolling. Draft grade: A- Prediction: 11-5 Oakland Raiders: I keep waiting to see a terrible team to balance things out...... found one! OK, so the offense is totally workable. Although Young -> Rice is not your typical connection, the speed and REC threat allows for great use of Young's MS. Include 50 MS Craig in the mix and the offense has great potential. Ohhhhhhh but the defense...... it looks like a combination of epsilon semi morons (A Brave New World anyone?) Stinson is workable, but the lack of speed on this defense will be its downfall. Teams with decent running ability should be able to work the Raiders. Question of the year for Oakland: Can they match their opponents score for score to win games? Draft Grade: C- Prediction: 7-9 San Diego Chargers: Oh how glad I am I'm not in this offensive powerhouse division. Eagles/Gray/Jackson is just as bad as Deberg/Jackson/Gault. I don't even care that the defense is sub-par, the Chargers only need 1 stop/game to win. Mecklenburg/Lippett should be good for that. QB Eagles is like art: you create a masterpiece or a disaster. We'll find out if game high is an original Van Gogh or if he belongs in the MOBA (Museum of Bad Art). Draft Grade: B+ Prediction: 8-8 A conference a day keeps the critics away...... To be continued

DISCLAIMER: The numbers next to each player posted below are derived using an SRS iterative method from past tourney results. I used only the last 3 Madison tourney's with the following weightings (10%,30%, 60%) There are no subjective adjustments. They are merely ONE TOOL in evaluating a players past madison performances and relative skill. They can be thought of as the average number of points a player would beat an average Madison participant based on past results. A couple examples of ratings from 3 different players over the last 3 tourneys. low to high (-3.9, 12.3, 16.0) Consistent (14.0,13.8, 12.2) high to low ( 17.2, 13.1, 9.5) But appease the Tecmo Gods and ye may be rewarded with glorious endzone to endzone JJ's. Anger them and feel their fumble wrath destroy your tecmo hopes! Favre Region Group 1- Two-time champion Chet is the powerhouse here. If you are in this group your chance of a Cinderella 64 appearance goes down considerably. Given tourney history I expect a 3-0 performance from Chet who is looking to get back to the final 8 after losing narrowly to daboys in an epic game last year where daboys pulled off one of the jukes of the tourney. Having played Ryan.S online recently he has definitely improved his game from the last go around and has been training hard and the rating number highly likely doesn't do him justice and would be my choice to emerge from the losers bracket as knocking off Chet is a tall task few have been able to do. Ryan is also looking to avenge an epic battle that resulted in a 3pt loss to gripsmoke in OT. Scott S. has made it out of group play two years in a row and will definitely give this group a run for their money. Group 2- Should be a battle between Tecmo veteran O'Delle and another tourney vet David T. (Ashman) for the automatic berth. Odelle looking to get back to the elite 8 like he did in Tecmo X. Meanwhile Ashman lost to a hot Lefty in the round of 32 last year. Group 3- Tourney local Lucas S (Breaker) appears to be the favorite here assuming he's not super rusty. His last Madison appearance was Tecmo X where he made a run to the Elite 8 before losing to mort and bgboud. Ryan K (Hoigarrd) looks to reverse a downward trend of wins in Madison form 3 to 2 to just 1 last year but has mostly been losing close games. Site founder Matt Knobbe has lost in the round of 64 the last two tourney's and will be hoping to improve on that. Group 4- Matt DeGeorge is making his first Madison appearance but is no stranger to tournament play or Tecmo having won multiple northeast tourney titles and will be looking to make his mark on Madison and should be he favorite in this group. Two Jay's phillyopish and birdhas uwl will be his primary competitors. birdhas uwl nearly made the Elite 8 in Tecmo after a one pt win vs skunker in the round of 32 but lost to Jeff B in the round of 16. In Tecmo X his last appearance he failed to make it out of pool play as did the other Jay philyophish. Group 5- Tourney vet Rico (ryan33fulcher) looks to be the favorite of this group that is currently light a player that will assumedly be filled in from the play in tourney on Friday. Whoever earns that spot will definitely have a chance. Leif Powers (Nameless Loser) the creator of likely the most in-depth Tecmo FAQ to date will make his first Madison appearance. I know little of the current state of his gaming skills but he would be my other choice to escape this group given how little I know of the rest of this group. There are 2 other newcomers I know little about. Group 6- Louis brother of Mort has to be the favorite of this group light on players with tourney experience and or positive results. He will be hoping to break through to the round of 16 after losing to two quality players in the round of 32 including last years dreaded SEA/NE matchup loss to Gats. The rest of the group looks like a crapshoot to me but the next best player appears to be Justin L who do not escape group play the last 2 years going 2-2 both years. Group 7 - This group features two primetimes and a grogan. Advantage Primetime? Local tourney vet Troy H (Primetime) looks to be the cream of this group. He had a rough draw in the round of 64 drawing Vogt brother Jimmy V (Lefty) who narrowly missed the elite 8. He's also been eliminated buy Regulator twice in past tourney's so I'm sure he's hoping for some better matchup fortune. The other Primetime (Paul. G) has been trending up (-5.4 to 5.5). He had a very solid tourney last year knocking off Mort in the round of 64 and then losing it what appears to be an OT game vs Skunker. Brian R (Grogan) has also been trending up with each tourney ( -27, 3.7, 9.1). He nearly won his group last year losing by a mere 3 pts to online powerhouse Gats. He ultimatly lost to Louis in the roundof 64 . He should be dangerous with another year of tournmanet experiance under his belt. Group 8 - Local player Justin G (Lamefest) will be making his 5th straight appearance in what looks to be a group with a number of solid if unspectacular players. He will be hoping to turn things around with a number of double digit losses to top players. It should be a close battle for the 2nd spot between two Ben P, Ben B(Rockman) and tourney vet and good guy Kevin C.. I know Rockman has been getting his practice in online so he would could be a darkhorse that wins the whole group.

That's right! A new, kinda crappy show, dedicated to your favorite online activity and all your favorite and least favorite people! I've been kinda daydreaming about doing something like this ever since the league seemed to hit a real low there for a minute. I mentioned it to Player121, and he felt the same way, so we kinda started spit balling an idea, and that idea turned into this show. We wanted to do something to try to bring the fun back into this game, and this league. For me personally, nothing does that better than talking Tecmo. So, that's what we're gonna do. The biggest thing on the agenda for me is getting to know all the little pockets of Tecmo out there. We all know how we got into Tecmo, and HSTL ourselves, but I'm fascinated by how it happened for everyone else. So, a get to know HSTL will be an ongoing feature. I'm hoping to eventually get to a place where I can get "guests" on, we can talk Tecmo in general, and do a better job of being topical to what's actually happening in the league. So, keep in mind that this is the first episode, and hopefully moving forward I'll do a much better job with that. I want "the show" to be a very conversational thing, with very little formality, so to any one potentially interested in coming on, please know that it's a very relaxed thing. I ran into a bunch of production delays putting this all together, hence how late this thing is (the season had only barely started when we recorded - Gats and Regs were both still in) Also, as I'm a complete amateur, I had some problems with my own audio levels in the interview, so sorry about that in advance. I think a lot of the problems had to do with getting the first episode out, and going forward, it shouldn't take me as long. Anyway, listen and I hope you enjoy - and hey, if you're at all interested, hit me up, I'll get you on the show. Let's have some fun! Please feel free to comment and criticize. More than anything, I just want people to be engaged. SirTed >https://soundcloud.com/edward-beresford-949627369/hidden-stats-ep1

Here is the original 28 team rom with a bunch of my own customs hacks and tweaks. This will be the basis for a more in-depth rom I am currently working on. I hope you guys like how it plays as there is so much more to come. JBI OG-Style 1.2 Update 6/19/15 >https://youtu.be/xwxin7KwVCQ Custom Hacks: New Attributes Added QBs have 3 new attributes: Ball Control, Evade Blitz, and Clutch Rating Skill Players have 2 new attributes: Body Balance and Clutch Rating Defenders have 2 new attributes: Pass Coverage and Clutch Rating COM QB Pocket Presence & Awareness If under pressure while in the pocket, the QB doesn't just blindly throw the ball as in the original rom. The QB insteads reads where the rush is coming from and moves within the pocket or outside of the pocket. Then the QB reads for either a scramble opportunity or for open receiver downfield. Then the QB decides what to do based upon the defensive pressure and pursuit. The QB can still decide to throw the ball to open receiver without moving within the pocket at all. COM QB can Throw on the Run If under pressure while scrambling, moving within the pocket, or simply rolling out from playaction, the QB can throw the ball while running. The QB awareness works on the run and not just in the pocket so be careful when blitzing the QB!!! COM QB Scrambling based on MS rating The higher the MS rating, chance of scrambling increases COM QB Take Sack Chance based on Evade Blitz (New Attribute) rating While standing still in the pocket, Evade Blitz is checked. Lower the rating, the chance of getting sacked increases. The QB can also spin away from a sack attempt while standing still in the pocket!!! Clutch Rating has effect on certain attributes For QBs it determines if PC & PA gets juiced, For Skill Players it determines if REC gets juiced, For Defenders it determines if INT & Pass Coverage gets juiced Body Balance Rating for Skill Players This determines the chance of spinning out of grapple as well as the COM Skill Player's ability to zig zag downfield. Pass Coverage Rating for Defenders Pass Coverage rating determines defender's ability to force incompletions Shorter, Better Angled Onside Kicks Hold Up or Down while pressing A on the power bar to angle onside kick. COM can do this as well. Directional Punts Hold Up or Down while pressing A on the power bar to directional punt. COM will directional punt as well. Total Control Passing Hack Lead your WR, RB, TEs with the D-pad in while pressing B to pass. You can lead them while they're still running their route and even after the have stopped in place. This give you the ability to throw your receivers open or move them to a bigger passing window. Get creative and throw fade routes (especially if you throw a lob pass) if receiver has a step on defender, comeback routes if defender drops deep, or turn fly routes to IN or OUT routes, etc. Touch Passing Hack Tap B to throw a lob pass, Press B to throw a normal pass, Hold B to throw a bullet pass. Note that a QB pass speed rating will determine how fast the bullet & lob pass is thrown. Cycle Backwards Through Receiving Targets Press Start to cycle backwards. Press A to cycle forwards as you normally would Smarter Passblock CC Command (also adjusted CD, CE, CF Commands) OL can now read if defender is already being blocked. If so, he will look for next available uncovered nearby defender. If no defender is nearby, he will hold his position. No more unnecessary double teams while free defender run right by the OL. Offensive User Moves Press Select (changed from A) for speed burst (will lose control momentarily and lose speed afterwards) Press B to dive for extra yardage (delayed get up, can be grappled during dive attempt) Press Start to do a spin move (will lose some HP, crowd also cheers) Press Select to take a knee while controlling QB behind LOS (does a kneel down animation too) Defensive pursuit angles based on Quickness Will be much harder to juke defenders with high quickness ratings Dive animation timing based on Quickness Defenders with a high quickness rating will dive faster Single Defender JJ Ints based on Pass Coverage (New Attribute) and INT rating If pass coverage is not high enough, defender will whiff more often. If pass coverage is high enough, defender's int rating gets checked. If int rating is high enough defender will intercept the pass, otherwise pass will be deflected. Defensive Jump/Dive for passes based on Pass Coverage (New Attribute) rating Determines if defender is able to do either on a given play Offensive Jump/Dive for passes based on Body Balance (New Attribute) rating Determines if skill player is able to do either on a given play COM better Read and React run support If a COM defender is set to go into M2M coverage, he will read for run play first and break off his coverage assignment if it is a run. The defender will then pursue the ball carrier even if he is yet to pass the LOS. COM dive tackling like SNES TSB I COM will not make as many silly dive attempts while chasing in open field Pass Accuracy Controls whether a pass is on target and gets juiced by same value as Pass Control QB Ball Control (New Attribute) QBs have their own separate ball control rating (APB is back to normal) Punt Returners now use their own ball control Miscellaneous Hacks: Fumble & INT & Punt adjusted for better returns, Multiple new play commands created and implemented, Crowd cheers before the ball is snapped, NT can't lurch, Better stats screen, Halftime stats, and skip to main menu, MAN vs COA changed to COM vs MAN & Home/Away during season (Set Player 2 Controls), and all player ratings have been adjusted for new hacks. Other Hacks: Fix season schedule randomization (bruddog) Weather hack---weather affects gameplay attributes (cxrom) Team Color Playbooks (jstout & drummer) Dedicated Returners using code (jstout) Increased Kickoff Length (jstout) TE Sim Fix (jstout) P2 Conditions Fix (jstout) CPU Find Open Receiver (jstout) (I altered it to my liking) COM Mojo (jstout, cxrom) Avoid Kick Block Fix (bruddog) Randomize Tecmo Music (bruddog) Are you guys up for the challenge? Can you bring it OG-Style? I hope you can cuz there's much more to come later on in the 1.3 update!!!

What: Tecmo XII: There's Something About Barry When: Sat, Feb 20, 2016 Where: Badger Bowl -- Madison, Wisconsin Tournament Website: http://tecmomadison.com Entry Fee: $40. Includes a tournament t-shirt (size to be selected during registration). Prizes: We will have cash payouts for the top 16 finishers, thanks to our sponsor, Retro World Series. These will be announced closer to the tournament date. Start Times: -- Early bird registration for the main event opens on Friday night at 6:30pm at Badger Bowl. This gives you an opportunity to get registration out of the way, drink a lot of beers, catch up with old Tecmo friends, and play some practice games. -- Registration for the 16-man play-in tournament also opens on Friday night at 6:30pm. The play-in tournament will commence at 7pm on Friday night at Badger Bowl. -- Saturday registration for main event will be from 9:00-9:45am. We always start our tournament on time, between 10-10:15 am. That means that if you don't show up until after 9:45am, we're going to give your spot to an alternate. We strongly recommend early bird registration on Friday night because of this. Payouts: First Place: $2400 Second Place: $1500 Third Place: $800 Fourth Place: $500 5th - 8th Place: $100 9th - 16th Place: $50 Maximum Number of participants: 268. The first 252 people who register are guaranteed a spot in Saturday's tournament. Should we get more than 252 people, spots 253+ will be held for a play-in tournament on Friday night at Badger Bowl. Time to be determined. The four best finishers in that play-in tournament will receive the last 4 slots in the tournament. The maximum number of players in that tournament is SIXTEEN, which gives us a maximum number of 268 people in the tournament. Please note that all people who register are still eligible to make their way into the tournament as an alternate, as folks cancel in the weeks leading up to the tournament. We tend to get upwards of 10-15 cancellations or no-shows every year, so even if you are in spot 260 at some point, you may end up in Saturday's event without needing to play on Friday night. If you register for a 252+ spot, and you can't make the Friday tournament for some reason, you still have a chance to make the tournament by checking in on Saturday, and waiting to see if you can fill the spot of a no-show. And even if you lose in the play-in tournament, you can still come back on Saturday morning for the same reason, without paying another entry fee. So, in short, we can accommodate A LOT of people for this tournament, and you shouldn't be discouraged from registering if we cross the 252 threshold. I should note that we sent out a similar update last year, but didn't end up needing the play-in tournament after all of the cancellations. Better safe than sorry, though. Tournament Rules and Format: This information is available on the Rules tab of the site. The site also includes past tournament results, pictures, competitor profiles, and a preview of this year's tournament. Questions: If you have a question potentially applicable to all competitors (rules, tournament format, etc), please post such below. This is the official tournament thread. Get ready NFC, it's your turn to show your brilliant and idiotic draft choices! NFC EAST Dallas Cowboys: Jesus sports a high PC/REC combo with a decent rushing threat mixed with the mobility of Kosar..... Used correctly, this offense should be able to sip and dunk there way down the field mixing the running skills of the QB/RB positions. The defense is run stop heavy. This boasts a problem come playoff time as decently high PC QB's are typically present. I like the thinking behind putting this team together, but I don't see it coming together the way Jesus plans. Draft Grade: B Prediction: 7-9 New York Giants: Dolo with the real deal Neal? Yikes....... Not so fast my friend! The rest of this offense is wretched. Like, probably the worst offense in HSTL (did I really just say like?). If you pick pass against this offense..... well you can figure it out from there (or can you? Ginder reference!) Onto what should be a super stacked defense..... Bueller? Bruce? great. Bennet? great. Anyone with interceptions...... anyone..... hello? Dolo is good enough to somehow turn this pile of chocolate cherry diarrhea team into an above average team. Draft Grade: D- (Neal saves an F) Prediction: 9-7 Philadelphia Eagles: OOOOOOOOOK! Great draft sir. Fast mobile QB, Fast RB, decent downfield threat with Collins/Irvin. Well put together offense.... Again minus picked plays, this should be another dip and dunk offense. The greatest difference between stats is a 50ms RB and a 56ms RB IMO. The compliment of Emmit with Ware is great (OK i won't say it again). The defense is not lacking either. Oneal/Byrd is a good 1-2 punch that will allow MattyD to be flexible and play bend don't break defense. The big question with mobile QB teams is always can you score inside the 10? If so, look for a very successful season. If not, well, poopy flavored lollipops for everyone! Draft Grade: A- Prediction: 8-8 Phoenix Cardinals: Another well put together team here. Eff, where are all the shitty ones? Boomer/Rozier/Rison blah blah eff eff eff. 19ms is huge IMO on a QB and Boomer is just the right amount of mobility and PC to make him super dangerous paired with Rison. Good Luck NFC East.... Another offense is used correctly and efficiently, they should have no problem moving the ball and scoring. Rison presents a great option to score in the red zone with JJ and CC capabilities. The one problem I can see if the OL.... 2 38hp ol's is scuuuuurrryyy. The defense is serviceable with multiple LB options and Mcdonald trolling the secondary. They should have multiple stops a game against most offenses. Look for Vmoe to make a run this year. Draft Grade: B Prediction: 10-6 Washington Redskins: Ahhhhh the ugly swan of the NFC East. B-hump.....check. Wilson to.....slaughter? Jordan? ........ Vance Johnson? Errr I'll pass. This offense is a train wreck..... a championship team really requires a balance of running/passing. You're going to run into a defense that is heavy against one or the other and you have to be flexible. That is not this team. The defense isn't much to brag about either with Cofer/White heading this lackluster unit. Don't get me wrong, those 2 alone can be good for defensive stops, but the less than stellar offense will put this unit on the field to much to win a majority of his games. Draft Grade: D Prediction: 4-12 AFC Central Chicago Bears: Oh my god..... this offense..... Jeb's games will be like 28-35. You do know you have to play defense right? I struggle with grading teams that stack heavy on one side of the ball. A great tecmoer could make Manny Hendrix a one man defense with some luck due to his 44 INT, but Jeb? Not so sure....... Points will be score, and stats will be tallied. Who ends up on the winning side will come down to the Tecmo Gods. Draft Grade: C Predictions: 6-10 Detroit Lions: Bad luck to do your own review? Fuck that, I've been spitting in the Tecmo God's face since Madison X....(maybe that's why I've only won once?) Back to the team, I got my main man Tiki Tiki Billy Joe. Would have liked to have a faster WR or at least 2 50ms WR's for burn route threats, but it didn't work out. Brooks is a nice compliment to the high PS. I'm going to struggle if I get in long down situations, so continuously moving the ball for positive yards will be key. The defense provides options with Lloyd/Seale/Rod. Minus those bastards who throw JJ's all game, this defense should have little struggles stopping opposing offenses. Draft Grade: B+ (I would totally give anyone else who drafted this team a worse grade than this. I'm BJT biased) Prediction: 13-3 (Damn you 31 PC in advance) Green Bay Packers: Zuir brings the best weapon to HSLT..... lag. OK, maybe he's past those days, but he still sports the bomb it deep strategy with Everett/Reed combo. Thurman will allow Zuir to keep defenses guessing. Pick pass and thurmal runs it down your throat.....pick run and everette connects with Reed and you pull your hair out. Pick your poison! The defense..... what defense? Ben......Smith...... looks to troll the field to provide......stops? If the pack attack is going to be successful this year they need to post league high type points. Draft Grade: B- Prediction: 8-8 Minnesota Vikings: Kierre brings a common theme offense to HSTL: QB/WR JJ combo with a fast RB to keep balance. Great addition Rathman is for some popcorn power on low HP LB which really helps the run game. Minor note of consequence also is the decently high REC of all offensive player. Could be key in reducing a few INT's throughout the season. Defensively, this unit is serviceable. Mayhew leads the way with Fletcher as run stopping support. Another overall solid team whose success will depend on how Kierre performs himself. Draft Grade: B+ Predictions: 9-7 Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Suicide king did the right thing in surrounding Joe with high REC targets essentially allowing him to throw to whoever/wherever on the field. Now, let me tell you why this team will go 3-13. No running game, and the defense couldn't stop my balls from dropping. Joe and company will literally have to score every possession to win games.... how often does that happen even with Joe Montana?? This will be your league worst defense. Even a 44ms RB is dangerous to a defense with a 50 max MS defender. The only teams this D will have success against are those who decide to chuck it up every play and let Stinson spin the INT roulette wheel. Draft Grade: D Prediction: 3-13 NFC West Atlanta Falcons: Prime brings a very respectable and balanced offense to HSTL 36. Nothing to flashy, but skill at every position. The weak point is the O line. Running into teams with high DL/LB HP will essentially nullify the running game with 2 44hp and 1 38hp OL's. This should have really been rethought as it could cost the Falcons the season. The defense is extremely solid with the Childless Dick heading it up. Positioned correctly, the duo allows Prime to counter all offensive styles. I'm not sure what it would have cost to draft a better OL, but that seems to be the main hindrance on paper. Draft Grade: B Prediction: 6-10 Los Angeles Rams: Daboy's offense is very unlike what I've seen in the past. The Obrien to Ellard combination is scary for a player of this caliber. Knowing if you pin him to a 3rd and long that he can just go deep and get out of a jam is a less than pleasant thought. Add in 50ms Gary to the mix and trouble is brewing in the now current home of LA. All great players have a weakness, and here is Daboys this season. Max 56 INT. Fools, you better throw on this secondary, cause you ain't runnin'. Daboy always finds a way to win with superior or inferior teams, good or bad match-ups. His offense will overcompensate for a defensive weakness in the secondary. Draft Grade: B+ Prediction: 12-4 New Orleans Saints: Nos and his N.O.S bring a Marino/Sharp connection to the table. I did title this the ugly truth right? This is no playoff team. Yes that is a solid connection, but to many 69 INT DB out there can shut it down. No one is scared of a 44 ms RB when there is passing power like that. To boot, the defense is run heavy, and by run heavy, I mean that's the only thing they have a chance of stopping. Teams like the Rams could throw it deep 100% of the time and win vs this group of leather hands. I don't like it..... This team may resemble the real life saints where 80% of games totals over 50 points. GL NOS..... This is one squad I'm not jealous of! Draft Grade: D Prediction: 5-11 San Fransisco 49ers: I have one question for this team..... why? Moon.....yup. Givens.....yup. Jeffries...... WHY?? It's clear what your entire offensive season will consist of. You didn't need 2 WR's to do it man! You could have picked a solid DB option in which you might have had a chance at stopping Mrs.Plum in the Conservatory with the candlestick. SMH..... Well, at least you get to have fun throwing the ball 100 yards every play..... have to look at the bright side right? Draft Grade: D- Prediction 5-11

Just my own subjective grades of this season's very interesting draft. I'm hoping to finish the remaining 14 teams later today or tomorrow. Atlanta (Prime) Key Picks: QB Eagles, RAI OL/DL QB Eagles has a luxury he’s not used to – a quality offensive line. He’s also got a 44ms RB to make people pay a little bit for picking pass. Mark Jackson is a nice target, but not much else after that and no real field stretcher to make room for the speedy QB. Defense has a secondary of quality drones, but nothing more. Simon Fletcher, Howie Long, and the rest of the Raider DL will have to carry this defense. Offense: B+ Defense: C- Overall: B- Indy (Drake) Key Picks: 12 players from the Chicago Bears That’s right. Anderson, Carrier, Green, Gayle, and the Chicago OL & DL make up the heart of this team. The defense also boasts hidden stat icon, Nesby Glasgow, as well as LBs O’Neal and Talley to complete a formidable unit. The D will have to be impactful because the offense is less imposing aside from Mr. Anderson. Wild Jay’s targets lack elite speed in Anthony Miller and James Lofton, so his PS may be harder to optimize. Backup QB Stan Humphries should expect to see some action this season. Offense: D+ Defense: A+ Overall: B- Buffalo (Hoff) Key Picks: Defending champion Joe Montana, two CC targets Good times ahead for Cool Joe who has nice CC targets in Gary Clark (75rec) and Eric Martin (69rec). Throw in the luxury of a 50ms RB in Hillard and you have an offense that will be stopped less than a handful of times all season (plus they have a 44ms KR for field position). This came at a cost, however, as the defense is shallow on talent. Odomes is controllable in the secondary but has 38int. Swilling is a decent LB option, but Jacob Green may have to be the hero on the DL for this defense. With this offense, one stop is all they should need. Offense: A++ Defense: C- Overall: A- NY Jets (Hock) Key Picks: Bo, blockers for Bo Bo has Tony Paige and a strong Giants OL to run behind, and hopefully he can run effectively because the passing game features Timm (are 2 m’s necessary?) Rosenbach tossing touch passes to Robert Clark…and that’s it. So it’s Bo or bust, but this defense is pretty good. Tremendous speed in the secondary with Anderson, Oliver, and Seale should make up for the Andre Waters pick. Cofer at LB rounds out a pretty good unit. Offense: B- Defense: B+ Overall: B Kansas City (Manyo) Key Picks: Former championship combo of Elway & Butts, DB Byrd, and Sam Graddy??? Manyo goes back to what works for him with Elway, a 63ms RB, and speed at WR. Elway’s 31pc paired with Graddy’s 19rec is bound to produce some frustrating drops (or worse) this season though. Byrd and Offerdahl is all this defense needs (and pretty much all it has). It’ll be interesting to see if Manyo can recreate the magic. Offense: B Defense: B Overall: B (but probably C- for anyone else using them) San Fran (Bruddog) Key Picks: Fulcher, Bruce, more defense, and James Brooks Surprisingly, this looks a lot like Bru’s team makeup from last season except the talent is better across the board. This is very defense heavy with Fulcher, Bruce, Clifton, and other quality drones. However, the offense is much better than last season with 56ms James Brooks and a passing game featuring a 44/44 QB with Toon and Novacek. Bru went 6-10 last season with an elite D and terrible O. I think this defense is even better, and the offense is not only competent, it’s balanced as well. Yikes… Offense: B Defense: A+ Overall: A Miami (Kamphuna) Key Picks: Haddix, Flipper The defense is all Haddix paired with a SF DL that should add pressure. Francis at LB is a decent option when necessary as well. The offense looks a little like a Back-n-B type with Flipper and a 44/44 QB, but 50ms back Gary Anderson helps round things out. Looks a lot like Seattle’s team last season – can Kamp have the same success? Offense: B Defense: B+ Overall: B+ Pittsburg (War Machine) Key Picks: Almost all of them! Holy crap I like this team. Barry Sanders paired with fleet-footed Steve Young and speedy Tim Brown is a nice core on offense. Throw in the nice additions of Kelvin Bryant and Mark Carrier, and you’ve got a pretty deep offense. Defense is nice also with White and Green in the secondary, V. Johnson at LB, and Ray Agnew on the line. It’s hard to find many holes on this squad aside from a couple weak defensive drones and Captain Harbaugh waiting for a Steve Young injury. Offense: A Defense: B+ Overall: A- Dallas (JesusLuvsMe) Key Picks: Reigning LVP QB Bills, Sterling Sharpe Holy crap. There’s no way Jim Kelly is the LVP this season (and yes, I hope I jynx you) with targets like Sharpe (75rec) and Duncan to throw to. The MIA OL will give QB Bills all day to survey the field, and the good fortune of having a 44ms RB fall to Dallas helps round out this offensive nightmare. The D is just okay with Holt at DB, Harris at LB, and decent drones, but the offense should take most of the pressure off of this team. Offense: A+ Defense: C- Overall: B+ Tampa Bay (Justin Peters) Key Picks: QB Browns, Gault, Lippett Interesting that Peters opted for speed at WR in Gault rather than a tasty CC target. Brooks and the feisty Ernie Jones are decent compliments. A 44ms RB helps too, but not enough from keeping people from picking pass all day long. Riggs will make a nice 50ms KR to put this offense in good position. Lippett was a great value pick, but it was also vital to this team’s defense. Lippett is the only real threat here defensively. Offense: B+ Defense: D+ Overall: C+ San Diego (GameHigh) Key Picks: Moon, Givens Warren Moon at pick #11?! Damn that’s sweet. Reuniting him with Earnest Givens? Even sweeter. Add role players Gil Fenerty, Brad Muster, and Rodney Holman and you’re looking pretty good. PIT OL gives Gamehigh a nice KR also. The defense was patched together with Woolford holding down the secondary and LB Mike Johnson up front, but not much else. Moon better be on, because I don’t see a ton of stops coming from this defense. Offense: A Defense: D+ Overall: B- Washington D.C. (Zuir) Key Picks: Bad Moon, the remainder of the Bears’ team not drafted by Drake, and the Hoss?? The rest of the quality Bears’ players landed here in Bailey, Stinson, and Singletary. Very nice. The Rison pick was possibly the latest he was ever drafted due to a poor LB pairing, so that’s nice, too. I just don’t get the QB selection here. You’ve got Rison primed and ready for trip to JJ town, but only land a 44/38 QB and Hoss to battle for the starting job? Well see if Zuir can make it work. Offense: B Defense: B Overall: B Denver (SirTed) Key Picks: Peete, speedy WRs, Waymer, and Bob Really nice looking team here with 31ms QB Peete and two 56ms WRs to stretch the filed in Sanders and Ingram. Throw in compliments like 50ms Roger Craig and TE Steve Jordan, and this offense looks pretty complete. The poor GB OL may cause problems, but Peete is fast enough to evade pressure easily. Defense looks to have what it needs as well with stud DB Waymer, legend Bob Nelson, and beefy LB Pepper Johnson. A lot to like (and fear) with this team. Offense: A- Defense: B+ Overall: A- Minnesota (Keirre) Key Picks: Marino, Marcus Allen, Haywood C’mon…Marino at pick #14? Color me green with envy. And then, wow, 56ms RB Marcus Allen? Oh, man. And What?! Haywood Jefferies/Jeffires and his 75rec gets to catch Dan’s bullets? No fair. What an offense, but oh boy, that defense. The only consistently controllable players are LB David Little and DB Washington. Washington has low 38int, but Little has a nice 31int at LB. Keirre played well last season with a defense that really only had Childress at LB, so perhaps this will be good enough for him in a season that is sure to feature some shootouts. Offense: A+ Defense: F Overall: C+ NY Giants (Dolo) Key Picks: Rod, Ottis, and the TB Offensive Line… Dolo can do great things with a 44/44 QB, a target like John Taylor, and a power RB like Ottis Anderson. Then you put all that behind the TB OL, and you’re not as optimistic. The running game will be inconsistent against high HP teams, so bomb attempts to Taylor may come at a high frequency. The good news is that the defense has Rod Woodson and some quality DB drones. Woodson will need to carry this team on his back and hope for some Dolo magic on offense. Offense: D- Defense: B Overall: C- Philly (Carnage) Key Picks: DeBerg, Mayhew, Brent Jones, and a 1-2 RB punch It’ll be interesting to see what Carnage does with his two 50ms RBs this season in Byner and Gary. DeBerg has only one good target in Brent Jones, so this may be a more run heavy team. Hester and Proehl are decent CC targets however. The defense is anchored by Martin Mayhew and great value pick Gary Reasons. Aside from them and a few quality drones, there isn’t much more support here. Not the team I’d be happy with, but perhaps this suits Carnage’s style. We’ll see. Offense: B Defense: B Overall: B Green Bay (Player) Key Picks: Meggett, Gray, Walls, Reggie, and a little Majik The selection of two 56ms RBs was curious to me, but it does give some playbook flexibility and Player could always move Meggett to WR when needed. That being said, Player needs to move Meggett to WR because the proverbial cupboard is bare in that department. Byars will likely be the TE or other WR. The defense makes more sense with Walls and Eric Allen as nice options in the back end. Reggie White was a nice addition up front, but it came at the cost of Philly’s subpar OL. It’ll be interesting how Player pulls this team together, but maybe a little Majik from the QB will be the glue this team needs. Offense: ?? Defense: B Overall: Incomplete, but I’ll say a C+ for now Houston (StallTalk) Key Picks: Jerry Rice, Vinny Test I’m so jealous of the Rice/Haley pick. So awesome. Jerry got used to catching lob passes from Krieg last season, so he won’t have to adjust much to Vinny’s rainbows. This will be a pass first team that will mix in some runs from 44ms Woodside and 38ms Sammie Smith. The Jets’ OL isn’t great, but Vinny is used to that. The defense has two good options in the secondary with Carl Lee and Jarvis Williams while Haley stops the run up front. Offense: B+ Defense: B Overall: B+ Oakland/LA Raiders (gripsmoke) Key Picks: DT, Paige, two Dick-Dicks and a BJ This is a very interesting team to say the least. The defense will be formidable with Dick-Dick #1, DT, and Doleman. The special teams will be explosive with a 50ms 94hp kick returner. The offense is what’s hard to figure out. Is Lo White to be featured? Paige and Dick-Dick #2 both have 75rec, but are paired with BJ or Marc Wilson at QB? Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, but gripsmoke is known for being outside the box. Offense: D+ Defense: A Overall: B- Cleveland (JFagundes) Key Picks: All the good Vikings! Viking players Browner, Millard, AC, and Herschel Walker make up the nucleus of this team – so what’s not to love? Bentley and Metcalf are also some nice weapons for the Cleveland offense behind a stout KC OL. This is a well-balanced team with two 44pc QBs to play conditions with as well. Browner and Millard should be able to get the stops they need to be successful. Offense: B+ Defense: B+ Overall: B+ LA/St. Louis Rams (Ryan) Key Picks: Kreig, Ellard, Greene I was surprised Ryan went with the Ellard/Greene pick over Hill/Childress, but perhaps the extra notch of REC was more important to him. Pairing Ellard with Kreig has Back-n-B written all over this offense. The Rams do have a 44ms RB as well as two more 38ms backs, but I have a feeling people will be keying in on defending the pass here. The defense is okay with Tim McDonald and decent drones in the secondary. There are also a couple options at LB with Greene and Merriweather, too. Offense: B+ Defense: B- Overall: B New England (Daboy) Key Picks: Boomer, Emmitt, a pair of TEs, and the HSTL Bowl 34 MVP Greg Lloyd Daboy downgrades from Barry to Emmitt, but upgrades from O’Brien to Esiason. I have a feeling the results will be similar to last season’s successful campaign. Vance “will make ‘em dance” Johnson and the two Miami TEs round out a nice offense. The defense has speed with Hendrix and Lloyd, but is a little thin after that. Offense: A- Defense: C+ Overall: B Detroit (Toolie) Key Picks: LT, Dennis Byrd, a Nightmare, and a Muffin Maker I’m still crushed that Toolie grabbed LT and the Muffin man 3 picks before me. Byrd and LT will make quite the book end LB pairing on defense. The secondary also has Woodruff and some quality drones. Okoye is always a threat and Baker can stretch the field, but who’s gonna be the QB? Miller or Pagel Bites? Neither is an overwhelming option. Offense: C+ Defense: A- Overall: B Cincinnati (Diaz) Key Picks: Deion, Lonnie, and a couple QBs Deion Sanders paired with Rozier made sense, but then Lonnie Young and Johnny Johnson right after? Seems like unnecessary duplication to me. Then there’s the drafting of Ken O’Brien and Andre Ware simply to play conditions. This was a luxury that this team could clearly not afford because the starting WRs have 44ms and 38ms respectively. Diaz better hope that the two-headed monster in the secondary can shut people down and hold a lead, because this offense lacks any come-from-behind ability. The overdrafting of the same positions on 2 occasions has left this team short on every-down talent on the field. Offense: F Defense: B Overall: F- (Okay, maybe just a D+) New Orleans (Nos) Key Picks: Everett, Lott Some parts I get…some I don’t. I get that Ronnie Lott was drafted to play Nos’s infamous DB2 position and wreak all kinds of havoc. I get drafting another 63pc QB just like last season to make the offense go. What I don’t get is why the only target is 50ms/63rec Mervyn Fernandez along with 38ms/56rec Tommy Kane. Also, while I really like Buford McGee (44ms/50rec), he’s gonna be your feature back? One thing this defense is missing from last season’s successful team is another speedy option to control. The Green & Mayhew combo last season gave offenses fits, but besides Lott, the only other borderline impact player on defense is LB Seth Joyner. I see a lot of I-Form playbooks coming your way… Offense: C- Defense: C Overall: C- Phoenix/Arizona (VikingMoe) Key Picks: Humps, Hills, and Mount Grogan… My initial draft plan went out the window by the 2nd round, and then really derailed in the 3rd and 4th rounds. Frustrating, but the Cards landed some nice values. This offense features two 63ms players in WR Drew Hill and RB B-Humps. There’s also plenty of blocking with McKeller, Word, and the NO OL (along with a 44ms KR). Eason (44/44) will need to stay on the field, because the Cards unfortunately won the Steve Grogan sweepstakes. The defense isn’t imposing, but it’s markedly better than last season’s top 5 ranked squad with an upgraded secondary (granted the baseline was low) and two top end LBs in Snow and Childress to take over the roles of Lloyd and Little. No Joe? No problem… Offense: B+ Defense: C+ Overall: B Seattle (GoNick) Key Picks: Simms, a NT playing LB, and Easy-Mac Much like Keith Millard, Cortez Kennedy, and others, Jerome Brown was a DL who plays LB in Tecmo. He’ll anchor a defense along with Erik McMillan at DB. Simms in the 1st round seemed a little early to me, but GoNick got his guy and one of the Mark’s brothers (Clayton) to go with him. It’s hard not to see this team as a downgrade from last season’s squad though. Yes, the QB is better (63pc vs 44pc), but E-Mac < Fulcher, Clayton < Ellard, Brown = O’Neal, and Blair Thomas < Johnny Johnson. GoNick is clearly a talented owner, but it appears he has less to work with overall this season. Offense: B Defense: B- Overall: B- Chicago (Dukesta) Key Picks: Keith Jackson and the Bufallo Bills (minus Jim Kelly) Duke grabs two of the triplets from the Bills in Thurmal and Reed while also landing their best LB in Bennett. The Reed/Bennett pick over AC/Millard surprised me, but seeing how Bennett looks like the only impact defender, maybe the extra speed makes sense…maybe. The offense still looks great with Thurman Thomas running behind the Hogs from WASH paired with the uber fast tapping skills of Duke. Aikman is in the place of Jim Kelly in this otherwise Bills-like offense, but he should fare well with Reed and Jackson to stretch the field and most of the focus on Thurmal. The defense is alarming however – perhaps the worst in the draft. There’s Bennett at LB and drones everywhere else (some of them really bad drones), so the offense will have to win some shootouts. Duke will have to prove the offense truly rules this league. Offense: A Defense: F Overall: C

    HSTL: Season 34 Reflections

What a season! I just wanted to reflect a bit on season 34 of HSTL at least from my own perspective: First of all, Bru had a tremendous new idea for a draft format that made the draft much different from seasons past. It’s always nice to change things up once in a while. Then there was the debate for locking positions. This was a welcome change for me as a hardcore OG guy, but others were less than thrilled. I think it made people think outside their usual DB3/LB4 box, but now I’m sure we’ll be seeing plenty of that again in season 35… I’d just like to highlight some players and owners here. Daboy had a tremendous and historic season with his team, and in particular, Ken O’Brien. No interceptions and the highest QB rating in the league – just incredible. And how about Bo Jackson actually winning the rushing title this season! Congrats to Player for using Bo to his potential. I think that Houston’s early exit in the playoffs overshadowed their stellar season. Stalltalk won 9 of his last 10 games to rip the division title from the Browns. The Oilers also had the #1 ranked defense, led by Deion Sanders who was 1st in tackles and 2nd in INTs (wow!). On the flip side, there’s QB Bills (sorry Ted), who had a disappointing season yet again. His line of 60%, 2250 yds, 16 TDs, 9 INTs, and the 18th ranked QB rating just doesn’t meet the expectations of production from an 81pc QB. I mean, he’s only one notch of MS away from being Joe Montana – what’s the deal here? Ok. A little focus on my own division rivals now. I need to start with Stewart. I don’t think people realize what a great season he had in the league’s toughest division. He finished 9-7 and made the playoffs with one of the hardest schedules (see Bru’s post on this). His QB, DeBerg, was 3rd in the league with 36 passing TDs, and his main defender, Woodson, was 2nd in the league in tackles. He also had the only TE to top 1,000 yards receiving this season in Marv Cook. Stewart’s Rams handed me one of my two losses, and I was fortunate to escape with a season series split with him. Then there’s Bru. Even with his defiantly over-drafted defensive team, he still finished 6-10 with the league’s toughest schedule. He may have made the playoffs if he was in another division with a softer schedule. Thanks once again for your insightful posts and predictions lined with oodles of data – always a great read. Last, but in no way least, there’s Nos. What a beast he and his Saints were this season. He absolutely embarrassed me and shut me down in our first meeting with his incredible defense (2nd ranked). I was fortunate to escape with a comeback win to clinch the division in our 2nd meeting. After an impressive victory in the playoffs versus a QB Eagles (and Toolie) led Lions team, I was not looking forward to facing him a 3rd time. I had to completely change my approach and playbook to counter his defensive style. While I was fortunate to come out on top, each game with Nos’ Saints was an absolute glove-dropping battle. I tip my cap to you sir on an absolutely tremendous season. Just to wrap up the other playoff matchups: Mad props to Dukesta on taking over an 0-2 Gats team to win the Central division with the Bears. Murphy’s Law took over in our playoff game, and while that’s just Tecmo sometimes, you deserved to have a better hand dealt to you in that game. And then, of course, there’s GoNick and his Seahawks. What a great season with Ellard (2nd in receiving only to none other than Jerry Rice) and Fulcher (led the league in INTs). Seattle won a hard fought game over the dangerous Daboy led Patriots to reach the title game. I think many expected a high scoring offensive affair in the championship, but it was quite the opposite. GoNick’s defense with Fulcher was virtually flawless – forcing me to take less than optimal, yet calculated shots down the field. I was merely fortunate enough to catch a couple more breaks than he did in a championship-worthy battle for the title. GoNick was an absolute class act before, during, and after the game – congrats on a great season sir. I’d like you all to know what an absolute honor it was to play in this league this season with all of you. This league is stacked from top to bottom with talented, quality owners. The fact that I found a way (let’s be honest, Joe Montana helped) to win a championship against the best competition that Tecmo has to offer still has me in disbelief and swelling with pride. Thanks to all of you for a great season! Eric/Moe

1 Rmm1976 DEN QB Eagles 2.28 Rmm1976 DEN Ernest Givins The obvious choice for the #1 overall pick along with a dangerously speedy WR. One question remains. Can they draft enough talent, defensively, to keep every game from becoming a shootout? 2 Gripsmoke RAI Joe Montana 2.27 Gripsmoke RAI Deion/Rade The obvious choice for the #2 overall pick. Coach Grip is great with QBs and this seems like a very good marriage. Montana should have a special season and compete for s32 MVP. Deion is a steal at this point in the draft. Great start for the silver and black 1.3 Louis BUF Dan Marino 2.26 Louis BUF Hendrix/Lockhart This was a controversial choice but if a quick strike passing game is the backbone of your offense, then this HAS to be your pick. While I have QB Bills 3 spots higher in my QB Rankings, there isn’t another consistent QB out there with the same arm strength. Coach B. continues his history of puzzling selection in round 2 or 3. Terrible reach here with Hendrix and Lockhart with Deion on the table and an abundance of 31 RS LBs that could be had in the middle rounds of the draft. 1.4 BradBears CHI QB Bills 2.25 BradBears CHI McMillian/Kelly We’ve seen this script before, BradBears with QB Bills, and the season ended in a 1-14 disaster. Will this year be any different? McMillian is a nice pick up but defense has never been known as Bradbears’ forte. 1.5 Gamehigh S.D Warren Moon 2.24 Gamehigh S.D Stinson / Hampton San Diego couldn't make much happen with the best player in the draft last season. While I like the first 2 picks, I’m taking a wait and see approach because they can ill afford to leave an elite QB without a running game for the second season in a row 1.6 Disasta PHX QB Browns 2.23 Disasta PHX Anthony Carter I love the pairing here especially considering they’ll need an easy way to score points in a division with Carrier, Mayhew, and LT. 1.7 Sega MIA Bo Jackson 2.22 Sega MIA Young / Harvey Tons of speed with their selections but I don’t know if I see anything that will allow the fins to be successful given that historically they are most dangerous with one of the top 3 QBs 1.8 Jfagundes RAM Barry Sanders 2.21 Jfagundes RAM Rodney Peete Barry Sanders was the logical pick at this point. After beasting his way with Okoye, this year he’ll have a true home run threat on every play. Typically drafting Peete in RD2 is a recipe for trouble but coach Fagundes is very efficient with his QBs. 1.9 Player G.B Woodson/Little 2.20 Player G.B Marcus Allen Woodson/Little were the best DB/LB tandem available but 63 INT might not have warranted a top 10 selection. Marcus Allen was a nice get as he was one if the last 56 MS backs. 1.10 Peters T.B Fulcher/Zander 2.19 Peters T.B Ottis Anderson Fulcher at #10 could be thought of as a coup. I didn't like the Ottis Anderson selection, as much, with 56 MS backs still on the board. Still it wasn't a horrible pick. 1.11 Toolie K.C Haddix/Moss 2.18 Toolie K.C Cherry/Thomas Some people might question going defense heavy a bad proposition but in a division with QB eagles, Moon and Montana it’s nice to know you have an elite player who can pressure the passer and an elite Defensive back. If they go offensive heavy for the next 3 rounds they could end up with a very difficult team to beat. 1.12 Diaz CIN Neal Anderson 2.17 Diaz CIN Raiders BU's Neal “the real deal” Anderson can carry the offense given his great combination of speed & hands. Every draft someone over pays for the Raiders backups. I think the Brown/Graddy combo is great when you have an elite QB but when you don’t (as is the case here) Graddy loses quite a bit of effectiveness. 1.13 Dolo GIA Guyton / LT 2.16 Dolo GIA Emmitt Smith Coach Dolo surprised me in round 1 as I thought he’d go QB or RB for sure. LT is the best LB in the draft, it will be interesting to see how often the Giants employ him as a pass rusher vs dropping in coverage. Emmit Smith will surely get the ball a ton in this offense. 1.14 ZiurZiur PIT Jim Everett 2.15 ZiurZiur PIT Willie Anderson I thought this was high for Jim Everette but had PIT waited they would have missed out on a QB. Anderson gives Everette a familiar face to throw to. Passing on a DB may come back to bite the Steelers in the end. 1.15 Regulator NYJ Bobby Humphrey 2.14 Regulator NYJ Allen/Brown I can’t argue with either pick here. Humphrey may not be the receiver Thurman Thomas is but they are close enough in value to choose either one. Allen/Brown is a good in the middle of round 2 but the Jets need to get a higher INT drone as defending with 50 INT DB will be tough come playoff time. 1.16 Dukesta N.E Thurman Thomas 2.13 Dukesta N.E Don Majkowski Continuing the run on RB’s the pats pick up a great utility back in RD 1. I think Majikowski is a 3rd round talent but the run on QBs in round 1 left the Majik Man as the best QB on the board. Going defense here might have been a wiser selection. 1.17 Flo CLE Jerry Rice 2.12 Flo CLE James "Hell" Brooks Jerry Rice is a threat to score on any play with his speed but his 81 rec makes him a touchdown scoring machine. James Brooks is a great complement on the ground and should keep defenses from keying on Rice. The question is will coach Flo get to experience a full season with them as he is notoriously hard to find during any season. 1.18 Manyo WAS Marion Butts 2.11 Manyo WAS Mayhew/Collins Completing the run on 63 MS backs was the redskins. He might be one dimensional due to his lack of hands but he’s still a workhorse. Mayhew should have gone much early, so he was a major steal at this point. 1.19 Stalltalk HOU Waymer/Millen 2.10 Stalltalk HOU David Meggett Waymer/Millen wasn’t a reach but given the fact the Millen is not really a usable defender a better select would have been DB Richard Johnson. Despite his small stature Meggett will be a workhorse for Houston this season. 1.20 Keirre ATL Dave Krieg 2.9 Keirre ATL Walls/Johnson Similar to my thoughts on Marino going 1.3, if Krieg’s your guy then I have no issue with him going this high. His noodle arm might cause issues when the field shrinks but there might not be a better QB suited for deep passing. Walls and Johnson are a good tandem to anchor the defense considering and were the 2nd best duo of DB/LB. 1.21 Nos N.O Johnson/Smith 2.8 Nos N.O Henry Ellard A major find for coach Nos at 1.21 getting a 75 int DB. Henry Ellard is often over looked and I actually rank him as the 2nd best WR behind Rice, so getting him at 2.8 is a good value. The only question is who will throw to him. 1.22 GoNick SEA Vinny Testaverde 2.7 GoNick SEA Byrd/Rolling Seattle fans were excited to see the return of Vinny T and hope he can get them to another Super Bowl. Byrd is another RD 1 talent who slipped into round 2. Byrd will be very busy in a division full of good QBs. 1.23 Psycho IND Williams / Offerdahl 2.6 Psycho IND DET Backups Williams/ Offerdahl was easily the worst pick of round 1 and a major reach. A similar (and arguably better) duo in Walls/Johnson went almost 15 picks later. Detroit backups were a good save. QB Ware had a great season in PIT last season, if he can duplicate that performance Indy will still be in good shape. Indy does get the luxury of building their offense over the next few rounds after getting Williams and Offerdahl early. 1.24 SirTed PHI Lott / Romanowski 2.5 SirTed PHI Andre Rison This is my second worst pick of round 1. Lott is undeniably one of the fastest and hard hitting DBs in the draft but his 50 INT makes him a 2nd rounder at best. Romanowski is an average LB that does little to enhance the value of the duo. Rison is a major talent if you can get him the ball. Though, as of right now, PHI has really put themselves behind the 8 ball in this draft. 1.25 Bruddog S.F Phil Simms 2.4 Bruddog S.F Browner/Studwell Two very steady picks for a very steady player. It looks as if Coach Brudd will not repeat last season’s draft mistake of going too heavy on defense. 1.26 O'Dell DET Boomer Esiason 2.3 O'Dell DET Drew Hill Boomer was one of the few tier 2 QBs remaining and he ended up in a great situation as Coach Odell loves to throw the ball. Drew Hill is a great WR, whose speed should allow the Lions to take advantage of Esiason’s arm strength. 1.27 Hamburgler MIN Okoye 2.2 Hamburgler MIN SF Backups After having success slinging it around with Marino last season, the Vikes looks to have gone in the opposite direction and will run the ball more. I don’t like either pick here. Okoye is a decent pick even though I have all the 56 MS backs ranked higher. I have a bigger problem pairing him with a QB who has low PC (despite Young’s MS). The other backups are all only slightly above average players. I would have liked to see a speedy WR or Elite DB paired with Okoye. 1.28 Gats DAL Deberg 2.1 Gats DAL Carrier/Morrissey Coach gats has work wonders without a good QB all these seasons, so now that he has one, he might be poised to bring home the title. Carrier is by far and away the best selection of round 2. Even though it’s boring, Bringing Carrier back for a 3rd year in a row assures that DAL will rank at the top of the league in defense.

    Tecmo Psycho

    Tecmo Christmas

Twas the night before Madison, when in the hotel, all competitors were scrimmaging, including tecmodell. Preparations and play calls were accompanied by beer, in hopes that the Tecmo gods would bring them good cheer. Drunkenness and sore thumbs put the competitors to bed, while visions of JJs danced in their heads. Hungover by morning and riding with Matt, we pull into the venue and settled in to the pool play format. Before festivities began I looked up at the TV, only to see Josh reading from the Book of L.T. Now it is game time and make sure you have a cup, to get you prepared for those perplexing matchups. From screen to screen then what did appear, but a game changing fumble by Mike Rozier. The crowd became enraged with an eruption of cheer, I knew my tournament hopes were swirling this year. More rapid than tapping, the gods they interfered, a quick strike, a cover catch, and the three from mid-field. Survived another pool play and picked up some grub, and then see my bracket path, please hit me with a club. First it's Flo, then one of the Matts, third is Tony, next is Luke, on to Mort, only to face Chet and loathe this great sport. Despite this gauntlet, and despite my odds, this is Tecmo and anything is possible from the gods. Round one I ran on the back of Earnest Byner, I blocked out the noise reminiscent of a jetliner. Round of 32 I rifled the passing speed, how dare you give me the option of B.J. Tolliver or Rodney Peete? Sweet 16 oh how sweet is it, Orenga and your posse, well you can eat shit. Elite 8 is here and this was my day, as I caught some luck against ArtVandalay. The semi-final had a malfunction of the player 1 controller port, but the replay was not magic for the great one called Mort. The final was here and of course it was Chet, line'em up, line'em up and place your bet. I called Houston - San Francisco and he took Montana to Rice, Dick Dick I need you to put them on ice. Tied at 42 and only six seconds remain, the ball at the 48 and then I hear the rain. The rain might you ask with superstar teams, yes the rain hitting the window as I wake up from my dreams. #TecmoChristmas Merry Christmas and/or holiday of your belief to all you Tecmo brethren. I got the Madison itch. Any timeline on registration?

For those who have to go through the significant other, and a rigorous conversation, in order to gain access to this trip we all call "Tecmo Heaven," I have a strategic, yet probable, way of convincing them to give you the green light. I've been fortunate to be a part of the last three Madison tournaments, despite my daughter's actual birthday being March 9. She turns 5 the Monday after Tecmo XI. Mind you, this is in the car during a trip with my mom, my fiance, my fiance's niece and my 4-year-old daughter this past Saturday to see Santa Claus at a local mall. Also mind you, I hadn't officially asked for the green light ... yet. Me: "Mom, did you know it is Tecmo Super Bowl's 23rd birthday today?" Mom: "No way?! Are you serious? That means you're getting old. It came out that long ago?" Me: "Yeah. Hard to believe, huh?" Mom: "When is the Madison tournament? Are you going to go again?" Me, looking at my fiance: "It's March 7 this year. They are having another tournament. I'm pretty excited." Fiance, looking at me (and I know it's about to get serious): "Jenna's birthday is the Monday after." Me: "That would be perfect. We can have her birthday party on Sunday, March 1. She'd love to get her presents early. She's still young, and she still may not know the true difference of when her birthday party is, just as long as it is before her actual birthday if her actual birthday falls on a week day. Which in this case, it does." Fiance: "I just don't know how long we can keep having her birthday party that far away from her actual birthday." Me, with a soft tone because others are in the car: "I definitely understand that. I think we can work out the best of both worlds with me enjoying a fun weekend with my brother (Matt), and Jenna getting the 5-year-old birthday experience early this year. I don't want to miss out on an important brother bonding moment like this being the fact that there's been an ongoing fear of it being the final one." Fiance: "We can have Jenna's birthday party on March 1." Have the Tecmo Madison talk with others in the car or in the same room. Odds are, you can control the tempo and conversation. I understand that others have different circumstances. But this is always a hard one for me. But regardless for me, a fourth straight visit, five overall, to Tecmo Madison has been confirmed by the significant other herself. #winning #seeyouinmarch

I didn't expect it to take this long for my Madison documentary video, but with the editing out of shenanigans (and there are a lot of shenanigans) it is taking a lot longer than expected. So here it goes, a couple of quick takes from Tecmo X. First and foremost I'd like to apologize for my creepy mustache. God made some people to grow great facial hair (Diazz) and I'm not one of them. As Jon (daboy) said, that stache ain't you man! 2.) Listening to the autobiography of Arnold Schwarzenegger for 10 hours on the way to and from Madison is the best way to pass the time. 3.) Room 134 at the Super 8 smelled like home, you guys are awesome. d.) I don't think the band of brothers (Holtzbauers, Buennagels, Vogts, and Millers) will ever be beat in major tourneys, I hope I'm wrong but I doubt it. 5.) My funniest parts of the trip were when we left #134 and Woodshed told the other 10 guys he hoped they all made the Final 4 tomorrow, then the hotel clerk asked where we were going with the TV and we said it was ours, he just said OK and we went on our merry way. 6.) My favorite part of watching the tourney was yelling "RIVERBOAT IT!" on every 4th down, especially between Matt and Chet. Here is a quick preview of what I have so far, Long Live Tecmo! >http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9EuOCx6B3Q

Season 25 ended with the Giants reaching the top of the HSTL mountain with a victory over johny_mx's Chiefs. That team was lead by the legs of Marion Butts and the quickness on D of Lonnie Young. The Season 26 Giants were a totally different squad, as the first few picks were spent on QB Vinny Testaverde, the Raiders combo of DL, 50 ms OL Wilkerson, and WR Sam Graddy, and DB Louis Oliver. The Giants filled out the roster later with the significant adds of Brad Muster and Michael Cofer. The Chargers were led by HSTL red-shirt rookie owner diaz, who despite a decent reputation as a player, got put into the tier that was eligible for the top overall pick. The conversation in the draft lottery thread went something like this: Lucky: diaz shouldn't have had a chance at the #1 pick since he joined mid-season. Randy: i made a judgment call for the good of the league and competitive balance Lucky: Diaz does not come in with a reputation of being a bad player. Randy: when i played him i thought he sucked pretty bad lol So there was disrespect #1 from the commish. The Chargers did land the number one pick and, with the new tandem arrangement, passed over QB Eagles in favor of the super-combo from Pittsburgh of Rod Woodson, Greg Lloyd, Tunch Ilkin, and Tim Worley. After the draft finally returned to SD, they said "to hell" with any offense, and loaded up on defense, taking Darrell Green and the 49ers DL, landing Mike Sherrard, Brian Mitchell, and two solid OL in the process. Another tandem was taken at the end of round 4 (Talley and OL) and then he made his first offensive selection with Albert Bentley. After the draft, the Chargers had 3 38 ms backs and Bentley, who would serve as the team's WR1. WR2 was Keith McKeller who would provide some blocking. Vlasic and Schroeder would split the QB duties. The draft earned diaz a grade of F- from Randy Kiper Jr., which served as motivation for the Chargers all season long. The Giants backed into the playoffs, losing their last three games. They got by coco's Falcons in the Wild Card round, had some good fortune against rob's 49ers in the divisional, and then won a nail-biter against O'Dell's Lions in the NFC Championship, with Vinny sneaking in the winning TD with under a minute to play. The Chargers won the stacked AFC West and earned a bye. They defeated tadaos' Bills 21-17 and daboy's Steelers 14-13 (an instant classic) to reach the Super Bowl. Pre-game, the Giants went with the decision to play Muster at WR2 and insert Ed West at TE to try and combat Rod Woodson's HP. That meant benching Eddie "Money" Brown, who had a TD catch in each of the Giants' playoff wins. Coach Lucky sent Jenny Craig to deliver the news. The Artful Roger told him "Consider Yourself... benched." Game time and the Chargers win the toss. I was hoping to win it to make him stuck with 38ms on his first drive, but no dice. Vinny engineers a pretty good drive. It looked like the Giants would be held to a FG, but Craig fumbled the ball away inside the five yard line, which earned him a strong admonishing from Eddie Brown. Chargers take over and call a great drive, working it down for a Tim Worley TD with just over 2 minutes to go in the half. The kick is intentionally (I think) onsided, which gave the Giants the time it needed. Facing a second and goal from about the 12, the Giants called back-to-back Run 3s and The Roger found the endzone to tie things up with :07 to go in the half. Halftime: no panties, no Tecmo Hot Chick. Chargers receive to start the third, but can't move the ball trough the air. Roby pins the Giants deep, and the Chargers D forces a quick punt. Giants get a bit fortunate on the next Chargers possession, as two passes on called runs net nothing (a bad Schroeder pass is to blame for one). Chargers punt to open the 4th, still 7-7. Giants are determined to move the ball and eat out as much clock as possible. After burning a couple of minutes, Vinny has Graddy streaking in the clear, but he throws short for a completion and Graddy is caught by Rod just inside the 10. After a sack, it's back to Run-3-whoring, but two tries only gets the ball to the 2. Lohmiller kicks the FG to go up 3 with about 1:30 to play. First play Schroeder throws one deep for Bentley that comes up empty. Vlasic comes in for the next play and overthrows Metcalf, which burns out the rest of the remaining time. A Schroeder incompletion (he was in excellent) would have at least given SD another play, and any completion there would have probably meant a SD touchdown, since my man defender (Long) was isolated and diaz is the better tapper. 10 7 The Giants survive a true battle and finish a very unexpected back-to-back championship season. Look out, bruddog! Super Bowl MVP was probably Vinny, who did some good scrambling and managed not to throw a pick, though Marc Logan's 5 receptions for 56 yds were also eye-catching. VGG Matt, and congrats on an excellent season. Winning games with that offense demands precise play. You just about got me in this one. One thing that I lucked out on was that none of your 38ms guys got into good. Did you ever consider putting Bentley in there? The Giants and Chargers take their final bows and the curtain drops on Season 26. On to Season 27!

That’s nice, Gats. I’m not sure how your post is at all relevant to that which was being discussed, but your analysis of my Tecmo ability couldn’t mean less to me. I’ve never claimed to be some God. Heck, I barely even play Tecmo anymore and acknowledged, just a few months ago, that Reg would soon overtake me. Of course, some of you online guys are already complete pricks to him for the same reason (becuz he’s good) even though he’s actually a really nice guy. You’d know that if you spent 5 minutes talking to him in person. It’s nice to win these tourneys, yeah, but I’m not on some conquest for world Tecmo domination here. I attend these tournaments because they are a fun and necessary break from reality, a chance to get the competitive juices flowing, and more importantly, a chance to spend time with my brother and friends. You and others have been taking shots at the competition in these tournaments for years, yet still hypocritically follow the stream all day long. I don’t get it, never will get it, and find it shameful. It's pretty hard to criticize fields that contain the best online players (Reg, Daboy, MV) and the best console players, yet you guys find a way to illegitimize these events and their outcomes. And besides, not everyone is there to win. Remember fun? Only one guy won on Saturday, yet everyone would go back in a heartbeat. You’re pissed for 5-10 minutes after you lose and then realize you’re drinking beer while playing a 23 year-old video game. #perspective Speaking of perspective, it occurs to me that I’ve reached an all-time low here. I’m in a message board dispute with a couple clowns I have no interest in ever associating with. There are clearly better ways for me to spend my time. Chris, I apologize for whatever role I played in derailing this thread. We should be celebrating what was another fantastic event. I hope these tournaments continue long after I leave the Tecmo scene.

    NES TSB Map of Field

I have been asked to create a tutorial on how to edit the NES TSB field. The editing is simple enough once you know the field layout. You can use my endzone editing guide for more detail on how to do the exact editing it is the same as the endzones except there is only one layer of tiles. Here is an explanation about how the field is layed out. Once again, ask any questions you like, I will answer what I am capable of. Remember, if a 44 year old with no computer programming experience, no hex editing experience and no tile editing experience can learn to do this, so can you. You just have to dive in and learn, all the components are here on this website. I have tried to make these tutorials so that even an inexperienced person like myself can understand them so tell me if you are having problems understanding. HSTL Season 40 Draft Review

Despite not having the time I’d like to participate as an owner, I do still love this league. So I’ve decided to do a little draft analysis for ya’ll. Let me just say that QB Eagles should always be taken #1 overall – period. I can understand maybe wanting to try something different, but do that went you don’t have the #1 overall pick. The fact that he fell to Hock at #3 is completely insane, and you’ll all pay the price for that one this season. So okay, here we go. I’ve decided to so this by draft order instead of division. SEA (Barletti) Draft Theme: The Joe Show Analysis: You passed on QB Eagles, but you did get Joe. I would have preferred a better WR with 75rec to pair him with, but Reed is still pretty good. With only one 44ms RB, I would expect to get pass called all day long. The defense isn’t going to scare anybody either. Pepper can help vs the run, and Reasons can be dropped into coverage – so I like that – but drafting the Woodruff/Everett combo would have been better. White is a serviceable DB to use, but then that’s it for this D. I would have expected a better haul with the first pick. Draft Grade: C Season Outlook: Barletti is a newer online player, so he’ll need Joe to really go off in order to succeed this season because it’s all he really has. Having Gats in your division doesn’t help either. I’m predicting SEA misses the playoffs and places in the bottom half of the division. DET (CasualT) Draft Theme: CC to AC Analysis: Passing on QB Eagles for QB Bills just doesn’t make any sense at all, but you made up for it with the rest of your picks. Pairing an 81pc QB with super WR Anthony Carter is instant offense. Throw in Byner and you actually have some balance too. I would have preferred something better than the Jets OL with the slower QB, but you can’t have everything. The other side looks nice too. I love, love, love the Woodruff/Everett pick. Pair that With O’Neal at LB and you have what you need on defense to get some stops. Draft Grade: B+ Season Outlook: Taking QB Eagles probably would have netted an A grade as the team was well assembled. It might not be enough with QB Eagles considering the NFC Central division is stacked with quality owners in Rico, Dolo, and O’Dell. So I think we’re looking at a handful of wins but missing the playoffs again. JETS (Hock) Draft Theme: Sanity provides a whole lot of offense Analysis: Wow, man. QB Eagles at #3 is the SOD for sure. The fact that he fell to an owner like Hock is going to be painful for the rest of the league. The offense keeps going with the speed of the Fernandez/Graddy pick, and also grabbing Rozier and Bryant at RB. This offense shold be unstoppable with Hock at the helm. Now, the defense doesn’t have much, but Lippett is pretty good with his 63int. Little isn’t quite fast enough to be a consistent LB4 lurcher, but it could work out. He should only need one stop per game anyway with that offense. Draft Grade: A+ Season Outlook: Despite having some quality, experienced owners like Hoff and Toolie in the division, I think anything less than a division title would be a disappointment with this team. Hock has a track record of putting up big offensive numbers, so I expect that trend to continue. BUF (Hoff) Draft Theme: Bo knows…that TB’s OL sucks Analysis: After two straight seasons of running behind the TB OL, Bo finally gets to run behind the solid NYG OL and the beefy Mark Bavaro. But this offense also has Flipper Anderson to stretch the field, and a pair of fleet footed QBs Timm “2 Ms” Rosenbach and the Hoss to make people pay for picking run. Getting a 44/44 QB would have been nice to pair with Flipper, but playing conditions with those two can get it done. The defense is well constructed with players at every level. He’s got Ball on the DL for disruption, Millard at LB for run stopping/blitzing, and Lonnie Young to patrol the secondary. Also some other speedy drones at DB too. Draft Grade: A- Season Outlook: Tough division with Hock having QB Eagles and Toolie being a 3 time champion of the league. Still this is a well drafted team, and Hoff is a quality player that will the most out of Bo. I’d expect a winning season and a Wild Card berth. WAS (Cubsfan) Draft Theme: Dan is not the only man Analysis: I understand that Dan Marino comes with a tasty side treat I Jensen, but I don’t think that’s a good enough reason to draft him over Moon (who gets a 44ms guy with him BTW). Regardless, you got Dan some help here with Marcus Allen at RB, and there are some nice CC targets with Paige and Martin (but some more speed would have been preferable for burn routes with Dan). I’m concerned that the shaky Denver line could be a problem for a 6ms QB, but this should still be a plus offense (it will need to be). The defense is pretty pedestrian with Seale and Collins the two options in the secondary, Harvey at LB, and the worst DL in the game. That’s definitely not gonna scare anybody, and stops may be hard to come by. Draft Grade: B- Season Outlook: With Regulator and Jesus in your division, it’s already an uphill battle. While the offense looks fun (would have been better with Moon), I’m not convinced there’s enough on defense to hang with either of those two guys. There will definitely be an opportunity to grab some wins here, but I see this team missing the playoffs. CIN (Arncoem) Draft Theme: You had me at Haddix Analysis: Haddix in the hands of Easy E is gonna make it hard for people to score. Add Snow at LB and the D has all it needs. The offense looks like a grinder with Otis at RB and Ken O’Brien at the helm. Brooks and Miller are just ok targets at WR, so landing Keith Jackson was helpful, but at the cost of having the Philly OL. It’s looking like a lot of low scoring games here, and getting stops and TOs with Haddix and friends will be the key to success as this offense seems to lack come-from-behind ability. Draft Grade: B Season Outlook: Arncoem is a quality player, but I don’t think this team is good enough to overtake Stalltalk for the division. Add in TecmoBo fresh off a deep Madison run, and this division gets pretty tough. Haddix needs to dominate here if Cincy hopes to grab one of the Wild card spots. TB (Oklahoma) Draft Theme: Looking for HP in all the wrong places Analysis: I’m down with the Fulcher pick despite his crappy pairing, but why draft Eddie Anderson two rounds later? You’ll be using Fulcher 90% of the time anyway, so that seems wasteful. You could have had a 50/75 WR or a stud LB instead. I get the HP is nice for popcorning WRs in the run game, but still. Hopefully Bruce will be disruptive on the DL. The offense has Emmitt, but not much else. Elway will require discipline and the targets aren’t great in Green and Proehl. The NE OL was a nice value pick that includes a much needed Marv Cook and a 44pc QB in case Elway falters. Draft Grade: C+ Season Outlook: Really, the overdrafting of the DBs cost too much on offense. The best chance is to keep things low scoring with Fulcher and grinding with Emmitt. This is already one of the toughest divisions, that I don’t this team being good enough for a playoff run. GIA (Drake) Draft Theme: Looks like OG Pitt, only better… Analysis: I love the Carrier/Wollford pick – very nice. Then you went heavy defense in landing DT in round 2 – awesome. Got a little bit of value in the Taylor/Sherrard pick, but then went back to defense again with the Hendrix pick. That was probably too much of a luxury, but you were able to land two 44ms RBs in Thomas and Hector later. The real save for the offense here was being able to land Andre Ware with the DET OL. That 25ms QB should really help the offense go. Add in Jacob Green on the DL and that defense looks nasty. I would have liked more on offense, but it’s not terrible considering what’s there on D. Draft Grade: A- Season Outlook: Drake will need to grind out drives and get stops/TOs with that defense to formulate success this season. I think he can do that, but I don’t think there’s enough on offense to contend with the top in the division. I think there’s a chance to make a run at the wild card here though. SF (Rockman) Draft Theme: Moon better be Sharpe Analysis: Great value in landing Warren Moon, and I love the pairing with Sharpe. That connection will have to be on point, because there’s not much running game with only one 44ms RB and two 38ms backups. John L. Williams is another nice CC target for Moon, and the CHI OL gives you a 50ms KR as well. The defense isn’t intimidating, but it should have enough. I love the Bennett/Talley pick for LBs, and landing Carl Lee was huge to give a speedy option in the secondary. Draft Grade: B Season Outlook: Having Moon in this division should give Darth a huge edge. I would have liked to see a better option in the run game considering his tapping advantage over all his divisional foes. Still, I think this team has enough for him to contend for the division despite Nos’ success last season. DEN (Jebigred) Draft Theme: Back and B time baby Analysis: You scored QB Browns at pick 10 – nice job. I get the apparent value of the Gault/Brown pick at WR, but I think one of the two 56/75 WR left at the time would have been a more productive pairing with Bernie. Got another sneaky value pick at RB with Carter/Rathman, but no one is going to be picking run against this offense. GB OL is a little concerning, but Bernie has the wheels to compensate. Defense looks complete with Kevin Greene at LB for run stuffing and having Oliver and Eric Allen as DBs is pretty nice – but at the expense of having Waters back there as well. Draft Grade: B+ Season Outlook: Without a running game to keep balance, Bernie will have to hit hot routes to WRs with less than optimal rec. Not and ideally built offense with QB Browns, but the defense looks solid enough to keep them in games. This certainly isn’t enough to overtake Gats in the division, and unless QB Browns crafts a masterful season, I think a Wild Card is out of reach, too. CHI (Rico) Draft Theme: Barry or Bust! Analysis: Getting Barry at #11 is great. Then followed up with DeBerg for a balanced attack – very nice. Landing the very solid Rams OL was key to promoting a strong running game and keeping the slow DeBerg upright. Getting a higher rec target for DeBerg would have been nice, but Monk and Hester will do. The defense did suffer a bit because of this with only Jarvis Williams and Merriweather to use, and the rest of the drones are pretty slow too. Draft Grade: B Season Outlook: Rico is a super talented owner, so if anyone can get some stops with this defense, he can. It’ll be interesting to see how effective Barry is considering that Rico isn’t an elite tapper, but the balance this offense has should keep opponents guessing. The key will be making them pay when they guess wrong. The NFC Central is a tough division, but I think that this team could contend for it if Rico can get the defense to work. CLE (TecmoBo) Draft Theme: A lot to like here Analysis: Grabbing Dick Dick (that just sounds wrong, but oh well) is always great. This D also has Offerdahl to stop the run, and Doleman on the DL to be disruptive. Just a complete defense. The offense features the 31ms Peete and 56ms Mel Gray to offer some nice balance. Targets are a little slow, which makes landing Collins late a really good get. RAI OL provides a 44ms KR and a 44ms TE – which was much needed. The Byars pick is a head scratcher since the high rec doesn’t help much (besides avoiding drops from Peete). Draft Grade: A- Season Outlook: Bo is a smart player who I believe can be disciplined with Peete and also keep his offense balanced. The offense looks a little like a grinder, but moving the ball methodically shouldn’t be too difficult with this cast. I love the defense, and it should be good for at least one or two stops/TOs a game. If the D can do that, and then play smart on offense, this team could contend for the AFC Central. DAL (JesusLuvsMe) Draft Theme: The Hills are alive with the sound of Jim Everett Analysis: Everett to Drew Hill (and Givins) is pretty sick. While having 2 stud WRs is a bit of a luxury, it does offer playbook flexibility and guarantees at least one of them will be running deep on every play. That’s definitely something to account for, and the BUF OL will leave plenty of time for Jimbo. The running game only has 44ms Woodside and a trio of 38ms backs to play conditions. With Jesus’ elite tapping, that should be enough to keep opponents at least a little off balance. The defense has Ray Agnew, who’s a nice DL option with his 31int. It also has Darrell Green and a couple nice drone DBs in Kinard and Dishman. What it’s missing is a LB to really lock down the run. Draft Grade: B+ Season Outlook: Not getting even a decent LB to help stop the run could be costly here – especially in a division with Regulator where the tap offs should be epic. Still, the offense should be really good, and Jesus certainly has the talent to contend every season. It will be the effectiveness of the speedy Green as almost a one man show on defense that will ultimately determine how far this team goes. KC (Gats) Draft Theme: Is it my pick yet? Analysis: As antsy as Gats always is to get the draft and season started, he sure wasn’t ready for this draft. Lots of skipped picks (including the first round!) and not knowing what’s available really hurt this team. Still, he landed Joey Browner, which will be mostly all that he will need to be effective on defense. Krieg to Mark Jackson is a solid CC/JJ option – Krieg’s low PS helps compensate for Jackson’s 44ms in case Gats wants to “back-n-B” it. The Gary/McGee RB combo gives balance and playbook flexibility. All things considered, it’s actually not a bad looking team, but it could have been even better. Draft Grade: C Season Outlook: Getting skipped on your first round pick really knocks down the draft grade for me, but this is still a team that Gats can win with. While there are some better assembled teams in his division, there’s just not many proven owners to wrestle the division title away from him. The holes in the defense after Browner and the potential fumbles of Gary may determine for deep of a run he makes in the playoffs however. IND (LincolnHawk) Draft Theme: You can’t win the league with a great first round pick, but you can lose it with a bad one Analysis: Bailey/Muster in the first was a straight up reach. Period. I understand the apparent value here, but how impactful do you think Muster is really going to be? There were 63ms RBs to be had here instead. Another “value” pick in the 2nd with Jeffries/Duncan was probably a luxury this team couldn’t afford after the 1st pick, but it does provide options. McDonald was a necessary get for the defense. I think you got spooked with the mini-run on OL with drafting KC. You could have had a good OL the next round and gotten a better QB to pair with your WRs here instead. Landing Cofer at LB gives this defense a chance, but it’s bare bones. Draft Grade: D+ Season Outlook: Just too many draft mistakes IMO to really make a good team here. There are some weapons on offense, but nothing that really scares you because of the below average QBs. The defense has two solid options, but again, nothing that’s going to scare you away from throwing into coverage. This team in a division with Hock, Toolie, and Hoff – it could be a long season. At least you’ll get the chance to redeem yourself with a high 1st round pick next season. MIA (RandyWags) Draft Theme: Did you forget you drafted Jerry Rice? Analysis: Rice at #16 is about right historically, but I think you forgot that you drafted him as the draft went on. He has no one to throw him the ball! Jeff George and Tom Tupa are your QBs?! What a waste. I’m cool with Okoye in the 2nd – I can appreciate the balance. Getting something at DB in Isaac Holt made sense. But then DL, drone DBs, and PHX OL instead of one that could get you a decent QB2? QB needed to be a priority to maximize Rice’s production. Add that the defense has no LB, just Dent (44int) on the DL to drop back with when you’re not using Holt. That’s not going to generate a lot of stops. Draft Grade: D Season Outlook: This team just didn’t seem to be well thought out. Rice and Okoye are certainly nice pieces, but there’s not the right support around them to be truly effective. The defense just isn’t going to be enough to hold up in this division either. I’m expecting a long season here and a hard draft lesson to learn from. MIN (Odell) Draft Theme: Drafting to your strengths Analysis: Woodson is awesome value at #17, especially when he’s paired with a quality drone in Lake. Simms was again great value and makes sense in the 2nd – playing to his owners passing skills. The RAI DL was a head scratcher for me in the 3rd, but maybe he’s looking for drone support/disruption knowing he’s not an elite tapper. Despite that little reach, you still landed a 44/69 WR in Clark, and also got some complimentary targets in Vance Johnson and Eric Metcalf. With only 38ms RBs (or worse) on the roster, this team is clearly built to pass a lot. I would have also liked to see a usable LB on defense, but Woodson can do a lot by himself. Draft Grade: B Season Outlook: The lack of balance on offense may make things difficult even with Odell’s elite passing skills, so we’ll have to see. He also has the skill to make the defense work with Woodson as the one man show. I just don’t know if it’s enough to take the division considering how loaded it is, but I expect a strong run at one of the Wild Card spots. PHI (Regulator) Draft Theme: Out to prove that the draft doesn’t really matter Analysis: With all due respect, this draft was sloppy. Skipped picks and not knowing what was available cost Reg some better players. Now, I’ve seen what Reg can do with a 63ms RB, and that may be all he really needs. He’s also had epic seasons with BJ at the helm, so Jay Schroeder could enjoy the same success as a similar player. The Hillard/Mayes pick was curious with already having Butts, but (see what I did there?) it does provide versatility I suppose. The reach for the CLE OL when there were much better OL’s available was especially egregious – especially when you consider that dancing behind the line is one of Reg’s favorite running moves. I love the Byrd/Clifton pick for defense, but that’s really about it. The Rams’ DBs are quality drones, but they really aren’t easily usable unless their condition improves in-game. Draft Grade: D- Season Outlook: There were some value picks here, but the team is otherwise poorly assembled IMO. Now, there’s no doubting Reg’s skill, so I’m sure he’ll make the most out of what he has here. He will be challenged in this division with this team, but I’m sure he’ll make the playoffs regardless. The question is, how far can he take this team? I would be in complete awe if he takes this lousy squad to the championship. SD (Gamehigh) Draft Theme: What’s this? A well assembled and balanced team? Analysis: Gamehigh put together a nice team here. Majik with the speedy Neal Anderson at RB will keep people guessing. Great get with the DAL OL that also nets Novacek as his top target. I like the Lo White pick if he moves him to WR or TE because the next best WR is Barnett. The defense has what it needs with E-Mac patrolling the secondary and Tim Harris to stuff the run. There are a couple speedy drones to help as well. Draft Grade: B+ Season Outlook: Really solid team here that could go far and give Gats some competition in the division. Keeping balance on offense will be a key, but Neal should obviously still be the focus. There’s enough here to make a run at the playoffs for sure. PHX (JPtheBowler) Draft Theme: Hey, Thurmal! Meet your new O-Line… Analysis: I don’t get it, but this keeps happening in this league. People keep drafting elite RBs and then put them behind the TB OL. This season, Bo passes the torch to Thurman Thomas. You just can’t draft a run first team and then get stuck with the TB OL. This will be painful. Aikman will be running for his life as well with Clayton as his only target. Lott and Childress on D are just fine I guess, but it’s not going to make up for the stall-outs this offense will have to endure all season. Draft Grade: D Season Outlook: As I said, there will be some frustrating games for Thomas this season, and third and long is no place you want to be with Aikman. One painful season with the TB OL should be enough to make sure to avoid them in the future. No sniff of the playoffs here. PIT (Flash) Draft Theme: Built for Back-n-B? Analysis: Waymer in the 1st was good, and then went value in the Clark/Sanders WR combo. The NO OL pick was nice in netting 44ms KR and a 44/44 QB for JJs. Got the other NO QB to play condition platooning. Got some more value and balance with the Craig/Sydney RB pick as well, and all of the sudden this team looks pretty good on offense. Reggie on the DL is a nice add, but I would have liked a better LB than Joyner to help out Waymer. Draft Grade: A- Season Outlook: Really strong draft that took a lot of the best available while still building a complete team. If Flash can be disciplined with his QBs, he could go far this season. He could also just go all out Back-n-B if he wants to, but he has the RBs to grind when needed. His skill with Waymer will be tested in his division, but I think he’s up for it. Flash should contend for a playoff spot with this squad. GB (Dolo) Draft Theme: I hate the Packers Analysis: Dolo is a damn good player, and he knows what kind of team he likes. He drafted James Brooks for like the 14th time in a row, and he got a 44/44 QB that he’s magical with (also Rypien for backup/conditions). He is lacking speedy targets with only Holman, Lofton, and Tony Paige. The defense also looks very Dolo-esque. Getting one of the last 63ms/69int DB in Byrd was huge, and then Gregg Lloyd and quality drones as well will put plenty of pressure on his opponents. Draft Grade: B+ Season Outlook: This team is really only missing a little more speed at WR. Otherwise it has everything Dolo needs to defend the NFC Central crown and make a playoff run. I’d like this team a whole lot more if it wasn’t the Packers… RAM (SuicideKing) Draft Theme: B-Humps and BJs Analysis: This team looks a lot like the OG Chargers on offense (probably because it has a lot of its players). BJ, a 63ms RB (BHump), one good WR (and then Quinn Early too), SD OL…yep, that’s basically the Chargers. I like it though, especially with the Muffin Man (Baker) as an upgrade at WR. Also the defense has Deion and Jerome Brown that should be able to generate some stops. This is probably the best team that Suicide has ever drafted. Draft Grade: A- Season Outlook: Patience, discipline, and balance on offense when using BJ. Smart to play conditions with his back up as well. Suicide is a good player if he can avoid the big mistake. This team has everything he needs to make some noise in the NFC West. RAI (Ziur) Draft Theme: Oh Ellard = Take me to JJ Town Analysis: Ellard paired with 44/44 Wilson smells a lot like JJs to me. Gary Anderson gives some balance, but the offense is pretty bare after that. The SEA OL can be a little shaky, but it does provide a 44ms KR bonus. Having Mayhew, Haley, and Romo on defense should be plenty for this guy to compete. Draft Grade: B+ Season Outlook: One more option on offense and/or a better OL would have been nice, but it really depends on how Ziur wants to run his offense. If he commits to the Ellard JJs, it won’t really matter. Ziur is certainly skilled enough to get some stops with that defense for sure. There’s no reason he couldn’t contend for the division title, especially given Gats subpar draft. ATL (Prime) Draft Theme: “Dome” LBs and some man-love for Steve Analysis: So Prime takes Steve Young for the 3rd season in-a-row, and I guess he’s expecting the third time is the charm? He does come with his own beefy SF OL and Brent Jones, but I think he could have gotten them in the 2nd round. Johnny Johnson and Mark Duper help round out the offense, but they are only one Steve Young scramble in-bounds from fielding the other Steve (Grogan) at QB. I suppose it’s sort of fun to have all the Saints LBs, but none of them can consistently lurch from LB4, so it’s a bit of a waste for me. Walls was a good add in the secondary, and there are some decent drones back there too, but this defense leaves me wanting. Draft Grade: B- Season Outlook: Offense is similar to what he’s had in previous seasons, but the defense seems much worse. I’m not convinced this team is good enough to get him over the hump. I also belive that the risks Prime takes with Young will catch up to him – he beat me with two CCs to Rick Fenney last season, but really, I’m over it. He’ll have to be more cautious with his scrambling as well with Grogan waiting on the bench. There’s not much resistance in his division, so I think the playoffs are still a possibility, but I would expect another early exit if this team gets there. NE (LuckyTool) Draft Theme: Hitting Power everywhere! Analysis: LT, Plummer, and the SF DL on defense will poke holes in a lot of OLs this season. Ben Smith was a sneaky good pick to man in the secondary when needed as well. More HP coming on the offensive side with the beefcake MIA OL that comes with the bonus of a 44/44 QB and a nice TE. Meggett and Toon are to be featured, and that should be enough with Toolie’s skill. The QB situation could get dicey if conditions or injuries force Harbaugh onto the field. Draft Grade: B Season Outlook: Clearly an overdraft on HP on defense, but it could work out well depending on the matchups in the trenches. Toolie can do a lot with Meggett, but having only Toon and a 44/44 QB could afford opponents to pick run occasionally. Considering the haul that Hock got in this draft, it’ll be a tough division to win this season. Toolie should still be able to at least find his way into the playoffs again with this team though. HOU (StallTalk) Draft Theme: Vinny, Bob, and Bad Moon Analysis: Vinny Test to Rison has been done before with great success. Throw in Steve Jordan from the MIN OL (including a 50ms KR) and you’ve got yourself a pretty nice offense. Maybe Gil Fenerty or one of the 38ms/81bc RBs will get some carries too. The defense is interesting but I think I like it. Not much in the secondary with only Atwater and Maxie who have marginal speed. But there is Bob Nelson and the nice pair of Bronco LBs in Meck and Fletch. It’ll be fun to see if that works. Draft Grade: B+ Season Outlook: The defense is clearly lacking, but I think stall can pull it off. The offense will be difficult to stop even with a marginal running game due to owner skill. I hope some of Houston’s games get broadcast – it should be fun to watch. Not your typical team here, but I still expect Stall to be the favorite in his division. NO (Nos) Draft Theme: Last but not least Analysis: Fresh off a championship (congrats) Nos has built a team he can be comfortable with. Stinson and Gayle was a nice value and it gives him the DB2 he needs to defend. Singletary will hopefully be able to disrupt and help him coral runners. Boomer at the helm is nice (but he’s no Montana), and he’s paired with the speedy Ingram. Bentley can’t really be moved to WR because he’s the only RB he really has. PIT OL is good and gives a KR bonus which he may need, because the offense is a little lacking. Draft Grade: B- Season Outlook: Not a terrible draft, but the offense could sputter. Nos will really have to rely on his defense if he wants to defend his title. I think the playoffs are still within reach with this team and his skill, but I don’t see this team repeating.

Just wanted to post this as far in advance of "TecmoXII: There's Something About Barry" as possible. There are a lot of reasons why this will be our last tournament, but mainly it boils down to family and work commitments. We'd rather do it really well one last time than do it halfheartedly for a few more years. We thank all of you for being supporters and/or participants in our tournament over the years. We expect a fair amount of comments, which is why we've created a separate thread for this (in addition to the #TecmoXII thread). Please post any comments/questions regarding the end of the tournament on this thread rather than on the #TecmoXII thread.

Congratulations for Joey Gats.... I don't think this could have meant more to anyone else in that room on Saturday. He played spectacular and was the best player as evident by his undefeated record. Mega props to Aaron T as well.... this was the first time since playing Chet 3 years ago I felt like the inferior player in our game. Amazing run and an amazing player; "the Kid' has real talent. Thanks so much to Chet and Josh and the rest of the crew.... my only regret of the day was not being able to have some time to conversate with you guys and make my appreciation known for all you did/do for the tecmo community with this tournament. Hopefully this will portray that feeling. Another great year in Madison. It was great to see so many guys again, meet new guys like invader and dueceloose. My sadness for the last Tecmo Madison is not so much Tecmo related itself, but of the loss for the camaraderie of 256+ guys that have the same hobby in common. It's always a great pleasure and a privilege to participate in this great tournament. Thanks to everyone who showed up and made this possible.

I'm going to break precedent here and reveal that yes, for the 5th year running, Flo was the #1 overall seed. Good luck Group 26! In unrelated news, we're happy to report that there will be an ESPN presence at this tournament. As of now, they're sending only a writer, but hopefully the mothership will course-correct and send a camera crew. Who wouldn't want to see Mort perform cunnilingus on a cartridge again?

    Thank You

I started HSTL as a replacement owner for the Opus and the Miami Dolphins in season 17. I wanted to get in a league so bad. Damfndrza was the one that made that happen. I wasn't real good, but I tried. I scheduled my games, did recaps, made vids, created artwork for the community, and the reception of it all gave me incredible happiness in my life. I looked forward to the interaction, checking Pure Tecmo and Tecmo World several times daily. I joined all the WTF leagues and I quickly found myself playing in 9 leagues at one time. I had zero problems contacting owners or being contacted by owners. This all on top of having a demanding job and a family. I have contributed and poured more than my fair share of free time into this game and community. Over these past five years there has been a change. Owners are not available. Very few make any attempt or contact to schedule games. I do not find much enjoyment playing online, mainly do to this. I posted about a vacation before the Season 33 playoffs even started. I knew in advance that I would not be contacted by opponents. To prove my point I purposely quit contacting people for games after my first two games (about a week before my scheduled vacation) and since I have been back from vacation. Zero contacts or attempts in both leagues. It is tough trying to enjoy this hobby when it feels like a one way street. Trying to schedule games with people has sucked the enjoyment out of online Tecmo for me. After speaking with people this past week, the current situation I am in with my family, and the complete lack of communication with owners in a time where contacting people takes seconds, I need to dedicate my time and effort in different areas. I will continue to play in TTC as long as people want to keep it going. I will occasionally play TPC, but my days of online leagues are over. I cannot see this changing, so this is for good. I want to thank Knobbe and Murray for everything they have done for Tecmo here. Keep it going. There are many out there that just learned about the site this week. I want to thank all of my rivals and friends who gave me so much enjoyment the past five years. I will come back to post. I will check in from time to time. I am also dealing with some tough family situations right now as well. Please say some prayers for us. This is much appreciated. I'm sure there is a reason for this change. I know people's lives are busy and Tecmo is not a number one priority, nor should it be. I have just lost what I once had for this great opportunity. For those of you who have my number or friends on social media, hit me up for TPC or just to chat. Good luck to you all and thank you for the memories. Psycho

Yes, one who participates in the Superbowl can do a preview on the Superbowl, so sit back, shut up, and enjoy the biased free analysis from a guy who knows something about the game and is trying to do his part to back up his big ass mouth about playoff interest. And if your name is Stalltalk you can still down rep this post and the world will move on. Minnesota Vikings Team Preview: Owner: Hamburgler Record: 15-3 Season high: 6 game winning streak before entering playoffs; Dan Marino 138.9 passer rating (Yikes!) Season low: a 31-7 dismantling by the Tampa Bay Bucs Team overview: This team boasts one well put together offense. Gun slinger Dan Marino leads the attack with a near 6:1 TD/INT ratio, supported by speedster Johnny Bailey and solid receiving options in Barnett/Paige/Jordan. The short and skinny of this offense is if you're not picking their plays, they are moving the ball on you. They averaged 27.7 PPG this year and came in 4th in total offense slipping 283 YPG. Studly. The defense on the other hand.....oui vey! They are yielding 21 PPG and a league worst 284 YPG. They are headed up by safety DB Eric Allen and LB Kyle Clifton. Fortunately for the Vikes, high INT numbers are not needed vs the Steelers. 50 INT should be adequate in defending the 38 PC Ware. This defense relies on play picking and mistakes made from offenses to get stops. It may have a hard time vs the potent Steeler offense. Pittsburgh Steelers Team Preview: Owner: Regulator Record 14-4 Season High: Boasting the first ever? RB with 1000 rushing and 1000 receiving yards Season Low: Failure to get Div round playoffs in and getting crushed 40-21 vs the JETS Team Overview: The Steelers come at you with a more balanced attack. The offense has enough weapons and speed at the RB/QB/WR positions to keep you honest. Replicating the same scenario as the Vikings offense, Pit will get the ball down field barring picked plays of fumbles. QB Ware and all his might at 38 PC has managed a 133 clip passer rating and a near 7:1 TD/INT ratio. RB Gray does it all for this team... over 1000 rushing/receiving, this guy is used all over the field. The speedy Ingram (despite only 28 receptions) keeps defenses honest with his quick down field threats. Pit owns the 2nd best offense at 26.4 PPG and 298 YPG. The defense has enough at key positions to give opposing offenses fits. Waymer at 69 INT and Bennet at LB4 keep running teams at bay. The Steel crew come in with the best YPG @ 201 and 5th best 17.8 PPG. Match-up Advantage: Vikings QB <- Steelers QB Vikings RB -> Steelers RB Vikings W/T <- Steerlers W/T Vikings OL <- Steelers OL Vikings DL <- Steelers DL Vikings LB -> Steelers LB Vikings DB -> Steelers DB Game analysis: Ultimately I think this game will come down to this: Steelers defense vs the Vikings offense. Not to go John Madden on you, but If the Vikes can strike on every possession, they have a good shot to win. Reality insinuates the Pit offense should be able to have their way against a slower Minn defense. Min will need a turnover, plain and simple. Clock management will be a must. Marino must execute to near perfection. I believe the Steelers have the better overall team, with the defense tipping the pendulum their way. The Steelers need to keep things simple and not get cute. Stick to their strength and run the ball vs the slower Min defense and get the EFF OOB!!!!! Fuck me, OK, moment over. Game Prediction: Coach Regulator and his Pittsburgh Steelers escape SuperBowl 31 with a 28-21 victory.

    Exit Strategy

I love me some Adam Cage... On topic and a more serious note, I'm considering staying in a couple of leagues. I never intended to say I was gonna disappear, meaning I would still be checking in and posting here and there, but was just gonna drop all leagues. I've had some time to process and kind of disassociate and I'm still back and forth on it, but I am sure of some things. I'm feeling really done with running any leagues. I also know I just flat out need to cut back. I definitely overextended myself, and the way life is going right now, I don't feel it's fair to the leagues to stay running any and being in so many. I would also like to thank you all for providing me the means to pursue such a fun pastime. And I'd like to thank you for the kind words. I think some might be overstating my contributions. Personally, I feel most of what I did was allow others to play, and selfishly, this was the way that I could continue to play. I love my players in the dynasty leagues. I'm liking less and less the manipulation of the rules to get the best advantage. It's a double edge sword because, especially in the gains leagues, there are legitimate reasons to push the limits, and I'm sure we all have our own ideas about what is acceptable and not, regardless of what the rules actually are. For example, I could care less if someone runs the score up on me, and I have run the score up on people. To me that is the nature of the beast (and I dealt with this on both sides of the coin as a youth football coach). The reason I have no problem with this is because each team has a job to do when they are on the field. To tell someone to not try and move the ball and score is against what you do. And as the defensive side of the ball, your job is to stop the other team whether they're up by 1 or 51 points. Anyway, I never get butthurt over that and I know I've butthurt others. Things I don't like is the onsides kicks every time type deals, and I know this has turned off some of the newer blood and they will leave as a result. Personally, I also am liking less and less my own reactions to bad plays on my part. I'm just not into it as I strive to be as an honorer of doing your best at all times and always competing, but I'm fairly sure this is a result of burnout on my part, and that's on me, thus I gotta cut back. The other inspiration to just drop all leagues was that the net result in the pros and cons (on a daily basis type of measurement) was that I was feeling relieved when considering I didn't have to deal with this anymore. I really appreciate the people I've met thru tecmo online and tournament wise. This overall is a great little community and I'm proud to have been a part of it, and like I said, I don't plan on disappearing altogether. Finally, life itself is pushing me to this decision as well. I struggle to find games in my narrowing window. As a west coaster, and essentially a Mr. Mom 4 nights of the week while the wife goes to work (I rush home after work, and she drops off our daughter and one or both of our nieces who we watch for a spell before and after school, my wife drops then off and heads to her job) My time with my daughter I am treasuring more and more as she gets older (she's 2) and we have another on the way. My wife also works pretty much all day Saturday so my family time is limited to Friday evenings (which also is the only night I can stay late at work if I need to) and Sunday days. The last straw was a combination of being on during my availability for several nights in a row with several roms to play but couldn't find hardly any, and then one of my really good friends had his first child and I'm feeling like I just don't care for online anymore, knowing we have our 2nd on the way in April. Anyway, I would like to say a special shout out to my main man Blue Luigi. He has given me some inspiration and really, is just a great hombre to have just an hour drive down I-5. The battles are pure as the sweet cheeba that is burned and it's strictly NBT, Nothing But Battlin. If you haven't heard of a recent Super Bowl match we played in a small little 8 man wtf knockoff, the ending was epic and while I was crushed, it also was exhilarating and exactly why I was so pumped to get into these leagues in the first place. There are also a terrific amount of guys who have been great to me, really too many to name. But definitely at least Brooks and Knobbe deserve mention. Dolo hit what I most love about tecmo, the camaraderie, and in a lot of ways I feel that the camaraderie is at an all time low (for during my 4 years on the scene). Not saying it isn't there, just at a low. I'm probably partly to blame for trying to keep so many leagues going (admittedly selfishly) so hopefully the scene rebounds a bit. Again I'm sorry for pulling a Vinny Favre, and for the oversharing via diarrhea of the keyboard. Long live tecmo, live and online. GLRW (you know I love you too suchy!) Oh and also SHAKE N BAKE!

Knobbe, I'm sorry if this post needs to be edited to be appropriate for Tecmobowl.org. But this is what live Tecmo looks like to me. Let me know if ESPN.com calls. "In that moment, at a live tournament, when you've just achieved Tecmo immortality. And there's a hundred people over your shoulder screaming, and cheering you on. You're like a God. At home, while online, in that exact same moment. Your wife is usually just pissed, and rolling her eyes." I'm going to make this recap very personal and very real, and very long. I will try to keep it interesting. What happened at TecmoX will be impossible to re-create for many reasons. Many first time competitors we may never see again, and if we do, it's unlikely we'll see them all at the same time. When will we again get Bruddog, Gats, Kamp, Manyo, and so many others all together at the same time? Looking at that awesome picture will live forever in infamy one clear regret does come to mind. Where the fuck is our champion? All I can assume is that the Tecmo mystique had something to do with this. Perhaps, in avoiding this pic, he avoided the Gods attempt to reap his Tecmo soul. Or maybe he was just falling out of a chair, splashing water on his face, or getting some last minute advice from Mr. Tecmosuperbowl. Whatever the reason. I'm sad Kyle is missing. He is clearly, playing Tecmo in a different picture from the rest of us. OK - So travel. Friday 3/7/14 I leave for Columbus to meet Ryan11p, Tecmo Ninja, and Kevin C at 8am. For Kevin and I this is our 2nd Madison. Ryan and Ninja's first. Mrs. Ninja had a schedule hiccup so Mr. Ninja was over an hour late. Very un-ninja like. But I appreciated the early material for later abuse during our adventure. Kevin C. and I snuck in a couple matchups and I was able to test out Miami/Raiders. This proved very valuable as I ultimately used this matchup to limp my way into the Sweet 16. Thanks Kevin! We took turns driving Ryan11p's Dodge Nitro while he and Tecmo Ninja argued Tecmosis like an old married couple. We recorded some interviews and continued to talk shop. Arrival at Super 8. I'm mostly excited to meet my online brothafromanothamotha Kamphuna. However, he's getting in late but his roomie Manyo was already posted up in #134 with Gats, Coconuts, Jim Socks, Woodshed, Lou, Mort and several others. Meeting Joey Gats was so freaking cool. He was very quiet, gracious, and extremely polite. We hang for a minute then go to our room #309. Just a couple doors down from the Vogts at #315. We head to Badger Bowl with Gats for early check-in, drinks, games, and bull-shitting. The place looked great just like last year. The people at Badger Bowl are always so cool and accommodating. When I checked in I accidentally tried to check-in under the name Diaz, instead of Swayze. Atmosphere was loose and everyone was having fun meeting each other. I saw Trevor O. from my group last year. We had some laughs about me working him last year and so we played some more. He joked about how bad I own him, which I do. But he made a great run in the tourney. Good player, great guy. Gats played Chet tough. He looked poised for a big following day. I don't remember much else. We head back to Super 8 to get ready to prep. Kamp had text me so I knocked on #134, Kamp answered, and we immediately hugged. It was totally homo. NTTAWWT. Most of the OGP (Online Garbage Players) were having a little trouble with timing kickoffs and FG's. Many kicks were not reaching the endzone and most FG's were sailing North. Good thing OGP's always go for it on 4th down. Hashtag 134. I'm not smart enough to churn out the numbers but the "feelsies" of it is that if you were OGP, Super 8, Midwest, and/or named Matt you were poised for a monster tournament day. I went 8-1 in practice games on Friday night, finally falling to Kamphuna. It was cool to bullshit with everybody but we didn't do our real bonding until business was over the next day. On tournament day I felt okay. A little tired but I scraped together 4 hours of sleep which was plenty. We show up at Badger Bowl and the mood was very different. We were tired but there were definite nerves in the air. The Madison Crew did an amazing job of handling the crowd and making everyone feel welcome. We went over some rules and watched some LT footage. Gotta admit, I was pretty pumped up after watching all the crack-induced LT tackles. At this moment I realized I was the #1 seed in my group 13 and would be playing first. I played Bob Gee (I think) and routed him 42-0 TB over Jets. The #2 in my group James fell early so I was salivating at the idea of getting some great point differential and a nice big bracket seed. But in my second game I called Miami Detroit and won with the Lions only 27-14. In the championship group play game Justin called SD/Rams. I take the RAMS. Everett throws 3 INT's and misses on 3 pretty easy TD passes. This whole game made no sense and this matchup will be expertly practiced before my next tourney. We both chatted later and both knew he shouldn't have beaten me. But he totally beat me and I was legitimately happy for him. I lost 14-24 and have lost in Madison to only people named Justin. I move over to the loser's bracket and Gil calls... SD/Rams. SAME EXACT MATCHUP. I was impressed by the strategy. He claimed to not realize. But wow! Anyway, I took the Rams again. And again I struggled. Luckily, I'm obnoxious on D and I win the game 14-0 to advance and earn myself a 12 seed in the big bracket. I play #5 seed Matt B. (Heechy) in the round of 64. We played at Ohio V group play where I won but I picked the matchup. Here he picks PHX/PIT and we grind it out. This game was stupid. I felt outplayed the whole time but the Steeler D kept bailing me out. I absolutely claw my way to a 3-0 nothing win, and back to back shutouts. I had 77 yards of total pathetic offense. If I remember right my FG was after a fumble and his FG attempt was missed. Me, an OGP makes a FG!!! Looking back on Ohio V that group had Me, Lefty, Rico, and Heechy. No wonder my tournament record leave's much to be desired. Wait... who's Lefty? Round of 32. Guess who? It's Rico. I really like Rico. He's fun to bullshit with but you also know he's there for business. I called Miami/Raiders after testing it with Kevin while waiting for Ninja to ever show up. He complimented the matchup pick. At this stage in the game you can't really believe anything that is said or happens. But he said he's not great with either team and would like to defer. He moves to take P1 then also says he'll take the Raiders. I said that's cool and reminded him that I'd be taking P1, since he didn't really defer. I respected the attempt to take what he could get. But I think he forgot it wasn't group play anymore. Rico takes P2 and Bo Jackson and runs for over 350 yards on me. He played really well and was dominant on offense. I got a gift turnover early which put me ahead and we went back and forth. I score late in the 4th to go up. But with about 90 seconds left Bo breaks free and he's brought down inside the Miami 20. If it were a season game I'm certain he would've broken his hip. Rico's run/pass ratio was 9:1 in this game. I think he took 3 cracks at it and I picked run, run, pass. I believe I contained the first run, picked the second run, then picked pass and played centerfield. I was ready to out tap Bo and was really scared Bo was about to walk in the endzone. Rico also picked pass and was able to cover well enough to break rhythm and bring him down on a scramble to advance 24-17. I sneak by in another and advance to the Sweet 16. Good thing I'm OGP so I knew to pick pass after defending on 27 run plays. I've been outgained in both games. Three Matt's represented the Dom in the Sweet 16. Toolie and Vogt went head to head and I got Chet because of my group play loss to Justin (thanks Justin!). Well, that loss and Chet's win of the wimpy coin toss sealed my fate. He picked Rams/Cincy and I chose Cincy because of my previous struggles with the Rams that day. He skips the kickoff screen (completely legal) and is kicking off to me immediately. From the get go I know I can't move the ball and wished I had L-O-ellard to "Back and B" to. I punt, Rams fumble. Here's where the punt coverage picks up the punt and runs it in for a touchdown, right? Wrong. The lazy Cincy drones and the Rams just kick at it for awhile until it rolls out of bounds. The Chet magic is there and for me to beat him in this matchup, I really would need two, probably three big breaks. They didn't come. Chet very skillfully cut me up while I was primarily Fulcher on D. I showed resistance, but he was methodical and would cut when given the opening. On his other sequences I would occasionally mix in Francis. When the opportunity was there Chet would give Ellard a deep look and it was successful. He added two extra JJ touchdowns perfectly timed. A couple times I had him backed up and he timed Shotgun to Flipper for diving CC's each time. He swiftly knocked me down 21-10. Chet is the total package and it's no surprise he's had so much success. He can tap (almost) like Reg, has the patience of Toolie, the knowledge of Mort, and Orenga-esque timing. Playing him fucking sucks! I'm twice his size and could snap him in half, but I was the one intimidated. It was still very fun! And at least I can say I lost to Chet. At this point I disappeared for awhile and thought about what could've been if I could've selected the matchup. I thought about if I hadn't lost in group play, or if I'd had a better seed, or if I was in a different region. Then I realized I just tied for 9th out of 256 people. So, I called my wife to share the awesome news! And I spent the rest of the time getting pictures and swapping all the dream crushing stories with my Tecmo brethren. Soon, I look up at the big screen for the finals and see that Kyle is at P1 which means he picked the matchup. After a lucky garbage win over Chet's Dolphin matchup he was ready for his first Madison victory. I see Den/SD up on the screen and a sober Regulator. Even with Chet's skill and everything that makes him great this matchup can't work for him. Not against Reg. Ironically, Den/SD seemed to be the matchup of the day. It was surprising to see it still available for Kyle just like Chi/KC was available for Chet against BigMV. Looks like they were all saving them for each other. That's why they're the best. Josh was hilarious at closing ceremony and made mention of a well deserved win for Kyle. It was awesome and Chet was visibly very happy for Kyle. Which is what makes our community so fucking cool and the best there is, period. But then there's the Player's Party... But for me, that doesn't happen for about another two hours. Somewhere along the line Tecmo Ninja picked up a stray, Hankdewild. Hankers was pretty much in the bag... No wait, back that up. Hank was drunktarded and we needed to get him back to his friends house. No way he could drive. So Ninja drives me, Kevin, Ryan, and HanktheTank out near the Oscar Meyer Wiener Factory. I mean, after a day of homophobic innuendo... where the fuck else would we be? The Wiener Factory, I'm crying. We get to Hank's friends house and he's not home. Information, that would've been helpful a half hour previously. Hank apologies, slurs his words and appeared even more drunktarded. I'm frustrated because I want to get to the Player's Party, not watch Hank slip around on some icy driveway by the wiener factory. We take hank to Super 8 where he'll hopefully be picked up quickly. Ninja and Ryan stay back to rest and babysit. Ryan graciously trusts Kevin and I to take his Nitro out on the town. We were of course very cautious of this kind gesture and didn't do anything stupid. Kevin and I leave. The Plaza. Madison Crew: Thanks so much for hosting. You guys are awesome and I hope more than anything I'm back in Wisconsin in March of 2015. #CliftonHanger OGP: You guys are the best you bunch of online garbage pieces of ... well, trash. You have no skill and you're all a bunch assholes. You know who you are. LATE NIGHT PLAZA. The Men have now been separated from the boys. All the men, have responsibly either started traveling home to their families. Or are resting somewhere getting ready for their long journey home tomorrow. Then there are the boys... Me, Kevin C., Manyo, Coconuts, Moulds, Mort, Louis, Knobbe, Bru, Nate B., O'Dell, Toolie, and of course Dave. I'm sorry if I forget someone. #shots All I remember is Manyo and Coco talking shit about approaching some girls. It was awesome! I felt like I was in high school again knowing that they were full of shit and it would never happen. It never happened. HOWEVER, a pretty pretty-girl does walk up to Manyo. It was late. Louis was passed out on the table and we had formed a semi-circle to block his view from the bar. So we wouldn't get kicked out. Louis was pretty hanked out of his mind. We were strategizing how to get Louis back to the Super 8 when this girl tells Manyo that he looks exactly like Blue Luigi. Random gamer reference from stranger #1. I'm fucking crying. We're all fucking crying. Then she looks at his 8-bit Seahawk helmet jersey and says: "What the fuck? Who are you? Why are you a Blue Luigi AND you have a pixilated helmet on your shirt?"(Or something like that.) BAM! Random gamer reference from stranger #2. At this point I intervene and ask her who she is. And how she knows what Blue Luigi and pixilated is? Chicks don't talk like that. Turns out her boyfriend owns an arcade in town. Instantly he appears! Of course, because his GF is talking to a creepy Blue Luigi. It's late AF. Her BF was super cool and was also very Ken Doll-esque. Especially for 2am, or 3am, or whatever was happening. His hair was perfect. It was very Raguse. We talked Tecmo and shared some laughs and I did a good job distracting him while Manyo continued hitting on his girlfriend. Thanks Manyo for wrapping that up so quickly. That wasn't weird at all! Dick. CONSIDERING THAT: 1. THE BOYFRIEND OWNED AN ARCADE 2. WE JUST PLAYED AN 8-BIT VIDEO GAME TOURNAMENT 3. EVERYONE WAS HAMMERED 4. AND MANYO LOOKED LIKE A BLUE LUIGI I WAS CONVINCED WE WERE ABOUT TO FIND OURSELVES IN SOME CRAZY VIDEO GAME CUCKOLD ROLE PLAY INVITE THAT WOULD INVOLVE SOME SORT OF S&M BOWSER, DECKED OUT IN ALL LEATHER. IF VING RHAMES AND LAWRENCE TAYLOR WOULD'VE WALKED IN WE WOULD'VE BEEN GONE. So we left. Kevin and I started to go get the car so we could carry Louis a short distance instead of two blocks. We walk outside and Mort is just waiting like some kind of God. There was a beam of light from the heavens just showering down on his beautiful face. It was amazing. Louis, who hadn't moved in about two hours somehow Jeditexted Mort to pick him up. I don't think it happened. I think that's what Mort told me so I wouldn't figure out that he's actually Jesus Christ. At Tecmo Madison, even Jesus Christ gets knocked out in the round of 64, once in awhile. Mort comes in, I keep my distance from 8-Bit Bukkake, Blue Luigi, and the Cuckolds. Mort yells at Louis which was hilarious. Following, I did imitations of it all night at Perkins. We say our goodbyes and bounce ... Me, Kevin, Coco, and Blue Fucking Luigi. We try to hit Taco Bell but the evil Madison medians keep me from finding an appropriate left. We decide on Perkins along with 150 other people at 3am. We order, nothing happens, I'm still waiting for my fucking food. This was a common theme even at Badger Bowl. I digress. Blue Luigi nearly misses his cab which is going to drive him so he can nearly miss his flight. I'm not sure how a guy who looks like an 8-bit terrorist can even get thru TSA in under 6 hours. AND THAT'S COMING FROM ME!!! We finally leave Perkins and I make mention that if hankthetank is in my bed when we get back to Super 8 that I'll be going to prison for a very long time. Or delivering him to the Bukkake Arcade back near The Plaza. I cling on to a couple hours of sleep and we drive back with Ninja and Ryan. They slept a lot that night during the shenanigans so Ryan was solid and he drove the whole way home. That's my boy!! Ryan and Tecmo Ninja argued Tecmosis like an old married couple almost the whole way back, again. It was very similar to playing Chet. I learned some stuff but mostly was just miserable and wanted it to be over. This community fucking rules. We're friendly, hospitable, charitable, ball-busting, loving, hating, whatever. It's very close to a family. We are dysfunctional and we care about each other we haven't seen in years. Or possibly even met. These people I consider my good friends. Many, I'll be friends with for a very long time. Unless I have to ride in the car with them. Then fuck those guys. =) Seriously, if you are my Tecmo brethren and especially if we shared time at TecmoX. I think you're the tits and thanks for making Tecmo so awesome in all your individual ways. If we missed each other please find me next year. Gats, welcome to the Force. You've now seen the light. Moulds, Kamp, Diaz, Coconuts, Psycho, Manyo, Dotdon, Leonardite's head. TL; DR: Live tournaments and the Tecmo Brotherhood is the shit.
