My projected Tecmo ratings of '07 starting QBs

Recommended Posts

I probably won't actually make a rom, but I got bored tonight so I did this. Order is determined by PC, so you might be more effective with Vick at 44ms than with some "higher ranked" QBs, and you can decide for yourself if Favre's cannon makes him better than the plethora of 44 and 50pc QBs.

1. IND Peyton Manning 63/69/75 13/19

bulger and plamer pc bump

vick and young pc down about 2 notches at least.

Last year Vick had the same passer rating as Hasselbeck and Roethlisberger, with a better TD-INT ratio than both (20 TDs to 13 INTs). I think he is way underrated.

Young showed promise as a rookie, and I think he will only get better. Young wants to be a passing quarterback. The coaches want him to use his legs more, but I have doubts about whether he will listen, hence the 31ms rather than 38 or 44.

Bulger and Palmer descended to mediocrity because their teams didn't make the playoffs. Palmer does have a strong arm - 69ps with 56pc still makes him among the top 5 or 6 QBs here. The Rams put up sick offensive stats, but that hasn't translated to a winning season since 2003. If you consider that Holt and Bruce would have 75 and 69rec or even 69 and 63rec then I think Bulger is good enough.

grossman - 50 PC

two words: Super Bowl

green - 44 PC

jac QBs - 38 PC, jarrard 31 MS, leftwich 6 MS

valid points, but I think Garrard is just hard to take down rather than fast, which is why I gave him 31hp. No insta-sacks, you have to grapple him.

bulger - higher PS (at least 50)

cutler - lower PS

mcnabb - lower PS and/or lower PC

My PS ratings are based on google searches:

Marc Bulger arm strength

Jay Cutler arm strength

Donovan McNabb arm strength

4300 yards 7.3ypa 63% 24tds 8 ints is mediocrity?

4035 yards 7.8ypa 63% 28tds 13

Are you smoking crack? If that's mediocre then by all means I want to be mediocre!

The reason vick gets low PC in tecmo is as follows. If you give him a laser arm and speed its already enabling hi to avoid int's and rack up completions as people have to choose between scramble or wide open man. So giving him a high PC is doubling the effect.

Here is an example from hstl: elway 8tds 4 ints 66% completion with 31pc

The only area vick is average in is avoiding int's mostly b/c his balls can't be caught by the offense or the defense. Your right hasslebeck was not much better than Vick but given that hasslebeck has much lower speed than Vick their pass control values should be no where near equal if they are to be equally effective passing the ball.

Here is another good site that breaks down every play of the season:

You want to base it off playoff appearances but then rivers and brees had just as much talent to work with. Bulger and palmer would get 63 pc in my book.

Cincy and the Rams have way better receivers than SD or NO. SD's best receiver is the TE, they have no reliable WR threat. LT helps out the passing game a lot, but it's not the same as having Chad and Hous or Bruce and Holt streaking down the sidelines for you. And the Saints most reliable receivers last year were a couple of rookies. Not to take anything away from Bush and Colston, but Chad/Hous and Bruce/Holt are way better than them. Besides which, doesn't Palmer's 69ps/56pc make him about equal to the other two at 56ps/63pc? I can see maybe boosting Bulger to 63pc because he's as good as the others even though his arm isn't as strong, but then I think I would drop him to 38ps.

As for Vick, here are my ratings again for him and Hasselbeck:

18. SEA Matt Hasselbeck 50/50/44 13/13

22. ATL Michael Vick 63/44/38 44/13

I think this makes them fairly equal in terms of passing. You use Elway as an example, but 75ps is not the same as 63ps. You throw in Vick's 1000 yards rushing and he is the much better QB.

  • 3 weeks later...

Vick and Young should be 38 pc at the very best.

Young: 31ms, 50ps, 31pc

Vick: 38ms, 44ps, 38pc

Rating qb PS on arm-strength makes no sense. PS makes qbs more effective in tecmo, but not in real life, so why oh why?! Vince Young was one of the worst passers in the NFL last season. Vick was ok, but didn't pass terribly often... and also 44ms is just unreal in tecmo for QBs. I can fucking wreck anyone with a 44ms 31ps 25pc qb.

also lol @ brady quinn and russell ratings.

You don't think Quinn is a 4th tier (based on pc) qb at minimum? Russell is obviously irrelevant now as he isn't even on the team yet, that was a bit of homerism on my part.

And of course having a stronger arm helps a qb in real life. How can you say it doesn't? And since in the game pc is about 4 times as important as ps, I figured why not make guys with rockets really have rockets.

The original rom has most qbs at 44pc, so that's essentially as low as I'll go for starters. I know you can dismantle anyone with 44pc, but don't you think a rom should be designed for the average player, rather than the 2% of you who can run circles around the rest of us?

nah, just saying rookies should be based on draft position.

arm strength helps in the NFL... yes... but, it makes guys overpowered in tecmo. a 69/44 QB can do some serious damage. i mean, i understand that a lot of you guys like to rate roms based on real attributes and stuff, but PS is so hard to really quantify from them. it's just too effective in the game to really warrant giving a rookie QB a rocket arm.

im not trying to brag about how good i am, im just saying that from my experience, PS is a lot more important than you think. give me BJ Tolliver and some 56ms or higher WRs, and i can run a ridiculously effective aerial circus. if you want to give guys high PS, you might want to consider lowering their PC at least a notch or two.

a final example from the original rom... Dan Marino is easily the most effective QB in the game for timed routes or picking apart the secondary in general. just imagine if he had 81pc? i mean, only the fastest defenders in the game can even attempt to contain guys with 69+ PS, but when they're high PC QBs as well, it's nearly impossible to cause turnovers vs someone of equal skill level.
