Tacoma WA July 24th, 2021 Cascadia Effin' Tecmo Season 5

Recommended Posts

All right, Al right, All right...

It is time to start gearing up again for THE BEST TECMO EXPERIENCE ON THE PLANET! (Don't @ me) The following describes not a tournament per se, but rather a live console season in which many games will be played at the same time rather than having to wait for 1 game. All season stats will not only be available for perusal on the game roms but also updated on our CFT Phile as we proceed. The goal is to give all owners as close to the original live tecmo season experience as possible, without taking so much time to complete, and with all teams closer to each other in overall attributes. In so doing, we all accept our fates and acknowledge the greatness that is the Tecmo Super Deities, and their love that will rein down upon us in all its forms and greatness, whether it be the JJs, the CCs, the condition or injury love/hate, and that most barbarous and diabolical form... THE JEALOUSY! Our goal is also to have at least 12 (more is possible) owners join for festivities.

Location: Back to our Roots. THE CFT Garage ( Future home of the CFT Hall of Fame) in Tacoma (It is slightly possible that the location might relocate to Coffin Corner up at manYo's spot in Centralia)

Date/Time: July 24, 2021. Begin at 9AM Pacific Time. YES 9AM DAMMIT!

Cost: $15 (Super Bowl Winner collects all monies) All Praises to the Tecmo Gods

Website: http://pnw.tecmobowl.org/main/main.php (has rosters)

Streamed? YAS! The goal is to Record all games and Stream one to two (to 4?!?)  games at a time (depending on how the game(s) are shaping up.) Yes Inspired by the Red Zone Channel and other similar stream styles where multiple games can be displayed. Streams will be on https://www.twitch.tv/kamphuna8/  All previous CFT playoff games and a healthy amount of regular season games are all on my YouTube channel.

Format and Draft: Current Draft Sheet is here. All games will be played on NES Consoles using Everdrive N8 PRO Flash Carts. Teams will be drafted in a non-Snake format using the attached Spreadsheet. Draft order will be based on previous year's performance. Those that were not there will be placed according to my discretion. The draft will be similar to HSTL format in terms of rosters. Each position group including QBs (x2) RBs (x4) WR/TEs (x6) OL (x5) DL (x3) LB (x4) DB (x4) will be drafted by each owner. All the OL, DL, LB and DB tandems are going to be locked in to their alignment that is on the original Tecmo Super Bowl rom. No WRs or TEs can carry the ball on a RB run play. A salary cap will also be utilized (according to the tecmo_salary_cap.xlsx spreadsheet from @bruddog ) where no team can go over the $100 mark. K/P will all have the same attributes (50 50 I believe) and Owners can provide names and faces for their idiot kickers. A night will be organized and announced for the draft on our discord channel. Draft details will be hammered out when I get a better sense of how many confirmed players we have.

More draft details will follow, the doc shows the order per the players and results  from CFT4 .All the tandems that went unselected in CFT4 had their value drop by $1 and all tandems drafted increased value by $1. If an undrafted tandem had an initial value of less than $1 the previous season  the value remains the same. If an undrafted tandem has $1, the next season it will decrease to $0.50.

Regular Season: Regular season will be determined once we have our final participant list  There will be 2 conferences (no divisions in the conferences) with (hopefully) at least 6 teams in each conference.  For owners that participated in previous CFT Seasons, the same teams will be used (this may change, I just have to flesh out the implications of how it will all be displayed and accessed when looking at team histories on the CFT Phile). We should have at least 6 stations and ideally we'll have upwards of 12 players. With 6 stations (Everdrives and NES plus CRT) we will be able to have 6 games at once and just merge without having to do 2 sets of games in a given week (which I think has caused issues with stats merging in the past). Conditions and injuries will function as they would on a normal console Regular Season, with conditions carrying over from week to week, and injuries that can result in a player missing up to two more games after the game in which the injury occurred. All the season stats will also be available on carts as we go along. It is JUST LIKE REGULAR SEASON ON TSB! ALL HAIL THE Tecmo Super Deities! and bruddog. Never forget bruddog.

Playoffs!!?!: After the Regular Season concludes, the playoffs will all be played on one console with each playoff game streamed. (It is possible we will play Wild Card rounds simultaneously to save time, technology permitting)  Playoff seeds will be determined using Tecmo Super Bowl's tiebreaker logic,  with teams in each conference seeded from 1 thru 6 according to regular season record, and the tiebreaker is point differential. In the event of a tie with same point differential, the team that won the regular season matchup will get the higher seed. Top 2 seeds in each conference get that Wild Card Round bye. The final regular season Rom save will be hacked to place the 12 playoff teams into the TSB Playoff bracket. The Playoffs will determine the Cascadia Effin' Tecmo Super Bowl Champion for Season 4! If we don't get 12 players, we will do the playoffs differently.

OK Friends. It is that time again. Time for some CFT live season Capsule Previews. I try to incorporate as much of the actual language from the original TSB manual's Team Capsule Previews as I can, and this season I'm including more owner info and commish comments for each team. Without further ado...

CFT 5 Capsule Previews

Clark Conference

Mt. St. Helens Division

Helens.JPG

1. BEARS1 Chicago Bears: Owner : Stu aka boogiewithstu - Dave Krieg is a high percentage passer who does a fine job of finding receivers Jerry Rice and John Taylor. Versatile Merrill Hoge, who plays both running back positions, is a dangerous receiver out of the backfield. Defensive End Bruce Smith is a dominating presence who directly affects opposing offensive game plans. Defensively, safety Dennis Smith and outside linebacker James Francis are a pair of heavy hitters who make receivers hear footsteps and ball carriers run scared. Safety Steve Atwater sets the tone for Bears’ defense with his hard hitting. Tyrone Braxton is the secondary’s best cover man.

20 CHI O.JPG20 CHID.JPG

kamp’s comments: THE RICEKRIEG HAS BEEN UNLEASHED ON CFT. Stu has a borderline unstoppable combination (when ol’ Mudbone isn’t stopping himself with headscratching heaves) and just enough defense to still bring that trademark tough boogiewithstu D. Sky’s the limit for this squad. Mudbone’s “accuracy” will tell the tale of this team. Keeping Krieg from getting hurt should be paramount. Bruce is gonna bring some Bad Things Man. This secondary can bring just enough to keep the W’s stacking for the CFT 5 Bears, hoping to revanche a trouncing in a playoff shutout at the hands of the Broncos. RiceKrieg says that won’t happen again. Points will be scored…

120 Stu.JPG

2. BRONCOS1  Denver Broncos: Owner: PeteT aka ptitteri – Opposing defenses should be aware of quarterback Timmm Rosenbach’s mobility. He throws just as well on the run as he does in the pocket. Regardless of who’s playing quarterback, the Broncos’ offense will move the football. The running and receiving skills of Bo Jackson, Marcus Allen, and Steve Smith keep opposing defenses off balance. Nose tackle Gerald Williams does a good job of tying up blockers and allowing linebackers Chris Spielman, Michael Cofer and Dennis Gibson to make tackles. Strong safety Mark Murphy plays smart and makes things happen.

21 DEN O.JPG21 DEND.JPG

kamp’s comments: Pete is looking to repeat as CFT champ and is bringing quite the offense to the table. Bo, Marcus and Andre Reed will bring plenty of ruckus while the Broncos defense will be leaning on a capable front 7 featuring Cofer and Spielman. Conditions will be counted upon to help the defensive cause. While Bo, Marcus and Andre prob ensure another deep playoff run for the Broncs, the QBs will probably make or break this season, so Timmm and Tommm will probably need to be on when it matters most. Pete’s hoPing they don’t Punt the oPPortunity.

121 Pete.JPG

3. SEAHAWKS1 Seattle Seahawks: Owner: invader aka invaderstar64 – The running and passing of Rodney Peete ignite the Seattle offense. The running of Christian Okoye and Barry Word, a pair of bruising runners who are hard to bring down, propels the Seahawks’ “Ground Chuck” offense. The blocking and receiving skills of Keith Jackson make him the prototype CFT tight end. The hustling pursuit of veteran defensive end Trace Armstrong and linebacker Andre Collins make it difficult to gain yards against the Seahawks’ defense. Defensive end Richard Dent continues to be on of the league’s premier pass rushers. Strong safety Nesby Glasgow is a smart, hustling player who wants in on every play.

24 SEA O.JPG24 SEAD.JPG

kamp’s comments: Invader combining the Rodney Feete and Andre 3000 with the Nigerian Nightmare is an offense that will be a problem for many a CFT 5 defense. Along with the KR ability that OL5 Tunch Ilkin brings, Okoye and/or Word will also be bringing a whole lot of special teams nightmares as well. Whoa Nelly Keith Jackson will probably be hauling in some clutch JJ’s for the Hawks this season. On defense, I think the Hawks will struggle to bring the usual level of D that Vader brings to the table. Dent having some INT will definitely get a lot of usage. I foresee some high scoring wild games. Also, will vader be given the chance to avenge CFT4’s playoff loss to JoeyB’s GMen after a stellar6-2  regular season? Betta bring ya popcorn!

124 Invader.JPG

Mt. Hood Division

Hood.JPG

1. OILERS1 Houston Oilers: Owner: callmefairf aka the Fiasco from Pasco aka rdleifriaf aka Randallous the Scandalous : With quarterback Warren Moon at the triGGer, the Oilers’ Run-and-Shoot offense will gun down any defense in the CFT. Speedy receivers Henry Ellard and Flipper Anderson have to be double-covered.  Bruising running back John Stephens will be the featured player when the Oilers choose to go to a ball-control offense. Defensive ends Ray Agnew and Brent Williams Garin Veris “the Spyder” are the bookends of a solid defense that includes Nate Odomes and Mark Kelso. Linebackers Jeff Herrod, Duane Bickett, and Chip Banks are the nucleus of an up-and-coming defensive unit that loves to blitz the quarterback.

17 HOU O.JPG17 HOUD.JPG

kamp’s comments: Fairfield is back in the CFT after missing CFT4 while vacationing in paradise. The CFT2 champ could not navigate the cold weather of CFT 3 struggling to beat the Giants and then succumbing to Stu’s Bears in the conference championship. Randy is looking to get back to titletown with Warren Moon at the helm and both El – Oh – Ellard and Flipper as his main targets. The hubris has not disappeared, the LBs will be JJ whiffing. Will Randy be able to return to CFT glory this summer? Keeping Moon upright will be key.

117 Fairf.JPG

2.  GIANTS1 New York Giants: Owner: JoeyB aka joeyhoneybee – No other NFL running back possesses the speed, balance, and acceleration of the Giants’ Barry Sanders. Wide receiver Rob Moore takes some of the receiving burden off Al Toon and gives quarterback Ken O’Brien another deep threat. Linebackers Kevin Murphy and Eugene Marve lead an aggressive defense. Cornerbacks Ben Smith and Eric Allen allow very few passes to be completed in the secondary.

16 GIA O.JPG16 GIAD.JPG

kamp’s comments: JoeyB has a very potent offense with CFT4 Super Bowl hero Mel Gray giving the GMen a potent dual threat in support of the already lethal Barry Sanders led offense featuring Kenny O to Al Toon thru the air. Joey can go with a 2 RB set if need be, and has a great backup in case Barry goes down. This defense will be reliant on the corners as there really isn’t much else other than DE Gann to man up. Andre Waters will be targeted for the underachieving Tecmo Putz that he is #headhunter. Joey will be looking to improve upon last year’s playoff showing in defeating invader’s Seahawks in the Wild Card before succumbing to grip’s Niners in the divisional round.

116 JoeyB.JPG

3. EAGLES1 Philadelphia Eagles: Owner: Hanging Chadwick aka the leader of the Earl Morrall hater society – The Eagles believe in the maJJik of quarterback Don Majkowski.  The confident passer does an excellent job of locating receivers Shawn Collins and Andre Rison. Sticky-fingered Andre Rison is Majkowski’s favorite target. When the Eagles want to run over defenders, they pair Kevin Mack and Leroy Hoard in the backfield. When they want to run around defenders, they give the ball to speedy scatback Eric Metcalf. Double teaming Jerome Brown and Skip McClendon only will free up defensive end Jason Buck to and give him a clear path to the quarterback. Outside linebacker Seth Joyner covers a lot of ground and has a nose for the football.

15 PHI O.JPG15 PHID.JPG

kamp’s comments: This will be Hanging Chadwick’s 2nd live CFT season and he will be looking to improve upon his 3-5 campaign and perhaps avenge his playoff loss to boogiewithstu’s Bears squad. Chadwick’s been able to sharpen and improve his tecmo skills thanks to the CFTAD PNW online league and has brought back the MaJJik Man to lead the way. Great move, and even better pairing him up with an even lethaler WR in Bad Moon Rison. The defense will have some speed and HP to toss around and muck up opposing offense’s plans. Cowboys secondary will probably have at least one guy pop into positive conditions and Jerome Brown and Seth Joyner will offer plenty of run support and pass rushing. The real question is, will the Eagles be able to shut out the Cardinals again? 😉

116 HC.JPG

4. 49ERS1 San Francisco 49ers: Owner: gripsmoke aka ekomspirg aka my brotha from anotha motha (insert Ernie Jones content here) – Quarterback Vinny Testaverde times his throws well and has good anticipation of receivers Ricky Proehl and Roy Green, who are a pair of sure-handed receivers with deceptive speed. Linebacker Kevin Greene is one of the best pass rushers in the league. The tenacious hitting of free safety Ronnie Lott inspires the 49ers’ entire defense.

18 SF O.JPG18 SFD.JPG

kamp’s comments: grip brings in  CFT 5 Super Bowl hero Vinny T to lead the Niners’ offense for CFT 5. (Yes I’m still bitter of that touch of Gray) The Niners and grip made it to the Clark Conference championship but succumbed to an Excellent Vinny T. Drafting him his season assures that won’t happen again. grip has weapons at all levels of defense with Waymer, Lott, Greene and Lurch Nelson. Can Vinny T lead this offense to carry the load? Lo White will get some play, and Roy Green and muthafucka Jones could prove deadly with some conditions love. I like what grip did here, especially with the San Fran secondary, and I really hope Ronnie gets some run in Excellent terrorizing opposing offenses.  The D is up to snuff, can this offense keep up? Well, yes it can, but will it? That is the question.

GRIP.PNG

#Lewis Conference

Mt. Baker Division

Lewis.JPG

1. COWBOYS1 Dallas Cowboys: Owner: kamphuna8 aka turbohuna4eva! aka YoKahuna – Jay Schroeder is arguably one of the worst quarterbacks ever to play in CFT, and when he’s not passing to receivers Eddie Brown and Tim McGee, he’s handing off to running backs Roger Craig and Tom Rathman.   Tight end Rodney Holman is the team’s possession receiver. (Literally zero of the SF DL, BUF LBs or PIT DBs got any mention in the TSB Manual team capsules)

01 DAL O.JPG01 DALD.JPG

kamp’s comments: CFT 4 was a roller coaster for kamp’s Cowboys. A tight close loss to Stu’s Bears was followed by a blowout win over TBK’s Cards but what followed was a nightmare. 5 losses in a row to Bruddog’s Rams (blowout), Tick’s Bengals, XtraLargent’s Raiders, an absolute annihilation shutout at the hands of Pete’s Broncos, and manBo’s Cheefz. What followed is not something I deemed possible.  A regular season finale vs DT where I used 2 lost Falcon fumbles to win and finish the regular season at 2-6.  Then a playoff run starting with a play-in game vs TBK’s Cards, and a run to the CFT4 Super Bowl highlighted by a late comeback OT win over Brudd’s Rams and a late lead in the CFT4 Super Bowl only to lose it on the Vinny T to Mel Gray heroics (and the realization after the game that Gary Reasons had gone from Bad to Excellent condition as I manned a different player on that title clinching play). I have no idea what’s in store for the CFT 5 Cowboys. Perhaps the wind is finally all out of the sails and a Wild Card loss is imminent. While I hope that is not that case, I DO know that I will have fun with this squad. QB Schroeder will need some condition love, but I am DOWN to play with Stevie B, hero of the 1991 Cowboys late season run.  49ers RBs with hopefully some conditions love with the Cincy WR/TE crew will hold the O down, while the D is perhaps even more stout with the addition of a nutty high HP DL in Carter Holt et. al. The hope here is that the Steelers secondary will provide ample blockadage of the JJ’s and CC’s that hurt me to my soul. While initial preseason action allowed for some high impact defense, in the end, Marino and RiceKrieg still had their way. Welp, time will tell, but as always. Tecmo Gods Über Alles.

101 Kamp.JPG

2. CHIEFS1 Kansas City Chiefs: Owner: manYo aka manYo360 aka manYo720 aka Blue Luigi aka QB CHEEFZ – The running of John L. Williams and Derrick Fenner propels the Chiefs “Ground Cheefz” offense. QB Cheefz times his throws well and has good anticipation of receivers Bruce Hill and Mark Carrier. Sean Jones, William Fuller, Doug Smith, and Scott Davis compose one of the most formidable defensive lines in the CFT. Versatile Jerry Gray is the prototype CFT defensive back.

02 KC O.JPG02 KCD.JPG

kamp’s comments: CFT 4 saw manYo take the reins of Bo, but he had the passing stylings of Jim Harbaugh and Mike Tomczak at his disposal. Well, it’s Bo no mo, but he has gone from the underground parking garage to the penthouse with his QB upgrade, the one and only QB CHEEFZ! James Jones and Chris Warren can help keep defenses honest, especially once we get midway through the season. Mark Carrier can carry the hands load through the air, while Uncle Ron Hall is an underrated threat as a tight end. With Bobby Humphery, manYo has the all “other guys” squad. There sneakily is plenty to work with here on defense, especially in a regular season format such as CFT. I like the prospects of a deep QB Cheefz run in CFT 5.

102 manYo.JPG

3. CARDINALS1 Phoenix Cardinals: Owner: ~Tailback King~ aka Mr. Rida aka The One That Saved Tha Game – John Elway’s cannon arm and nimble feet make him very difficult to defend. Running backs Johnny “Hidden Stats” Johnson and Anthony Thompson make up one of the finest young backfields in the league. Wide receivers Irving Fryar and Greg McMurtry are a pair of gamebreakers. Bruising running back Ron Wolfley and tight end Marv Cook are the featured players when the Cardinals go to their Ball Control offense (#RhinocerosPackage). The Cardinals’ linebackers are the strength of their defense. Outside linebackers Pat Swilling and Rickey Jackson excel as pass rushers and inside linebackers Sam Mills and Vaughan Johnson are solid against the run and in pass coverage. Strong safety Tim McDonald hits like a linebacker and covers receivers like a cornerback.

03 PHX O.JPG03 PHXD.JPG

kamp’s comments: CFT 4 for ~Tailback King’s~ Cardinals was a low point for the franchise. He lost by 1 point on a A.C. hail mary to JoeyB’s GMen to kick off the season, and then was only competitive in games vs DT’s Falcons and Bruddog’s Rams. A winless affair was not something anyone was expecting and rumblings from PTown indicate that Mr. Rida is gonna come into this CFT 5 season with a new lease on life and a nod to more sobriety, leading to a return to success for the Cardinals franchise. I for one would be all in to see (and hear!) it happen.

103 TBK.JPG

4. CHARGERS1 San Diego Chargers: Owner: gamehigh aka the TAD Texan aka the TAD Chief – QB Billy Joe Tolliver is a good medium-to-short-range passer. Gerald Riggs and Earnest Byner are a pair of thick-thighed runners who’ll trample over any defender in their path. The Chargers have two of the most dangerous receivers in the league in Anthony Carter and Hassan Jones. Greg Townsend, Howie Long, Bob Golic, and Simon Fletcher compose one of the most formidable defensive lines in the CFT. Linebacker Karl Mecklenburg is difficult to defend regardless of where he lines up.

04 SD O.JPG04 SDD.JPG

kamp’s comments: Personally I am very happy we got another San Diegan to come play some live CFT with us up here in the PNW. While gamehigh has not attended a CFT previously, he has been to Madison and is no stranger to most of CFT as he has been the owner of the Dallas Texans/Kansas City Chiefs in CFT Tecmo After Dark. And boy does he have a squad to play with here. The Redskins RBs shouldn’t fumble much and are very capable of matriculating the ball down the field. BJ has a cannon but Mr. Pickles Mark Vlasic is probably gonna get a lot of chances to turn up the AC with some sweet rainbow bombs. With the Raiders DL and Meck and Fletch on the LB corners, the table will be set for Ronnie LipPET and Mo Hurst to hold opposing offenses in check. Looking forward to the Chargers’ inaugural season in CFT!

Mt. Rainier Division

Rainier.JPG

1. FALCONS1 Atlanta Falcons: Owner: DT aka The Mentor aka dtfrombtown – Dan Marino still has the quickest release in the league and top receivers Brian Blades and Tommy Kane and tight ends Ron Heller and Travis McNeal. Gary Anderson is an elusive runner who squirts through holes and bounces off tacklers. Defensive ends Danny Stubbs and Tony Tolbert and defensive tackle Dan Hampton are excellent pass rushers who do a solid job of caving in the pocket. Linebacker Mike Singletary is the heart of the Falcons’ “Grits Blitz” defense.

06 ATL O.JPG06 ATLD.JPG

kamp’s comments: DT is another #Lewis conference homey who had a down CFT4 season compared to past history. The highlight win was over Bruddog’s Rams in the regular season, but a 3-5 campaign ended with a playoff loss to Wagg’s Raidahs in an absolute debacle, 21-0 lead lost, and when 21 all, Kevin Mack fumbled it away. The Raiders scored, and a late QB Bills  heave caught by Wayne Walker ended with a diving drone tackle. Redemption is the name of the game for DT this season, and with Marino, he’s got just the weapon to do it with. Also, GILL BYRD! How many games will Sam Seale seal the win?

106 DT.JPG

2. BENGALS1 Cincinnati Bengals: Owner: Tick aka White Tick – Versatile running back Keith Byars is an excellent receiver out of the backfield. Receivers Haywood Jeffires, Ernest Givins, Drew Hill, and Curtis Duncan are the most dangerous receiving quartet in the league. The hustling pursuit of veteran defensive end Charles Mann makes it difficult to gain yards against the Bengals’ defense. Linebackers Jessie Tuggle, Michael Reid, and Darion Conner lead Cincinnati's "Tick's Sticks" defense. Strong safety Joey Browner is a big-play maker who makes key hits and interceptions.

07 CIN O.JPG07 CIND.JPG

kamp’s comments: Well, Tick left the PNW back to his Nebraska roots within the last couple of months, but thankfully, he is still able to make it out here for CFT 5! The CFT Bengals have been steadily making gains season after season, with season 4’s 6-2 record tied for the 2nd best in the league with invader’s Seahawks and good enough for the 1 seed in the Lewis conference, including a 2nd straight trip to the #Lewis Conference Championship. Will CFT 5 be the season the Bengals finally push through to the CFT Super Bowl? Tune in and find out July 24th!
