Season 1 Player Highlights

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping to do a profile on each player after they have finished the season.

EddieZ 4-6 Overall 3-5 in Pool B
The biggest highlights of Eddie Z's season included a 21-7 win over scottywaggs in which Pittsburgh showed it's defensive dominance over PHX and handing Pool A powerhouse Tecmo DPS his only loss yet in a 24-21 win kicking a field goal with 3 seconds left to lead the Bears over the Bucs.  EddieZ also won 28-14 JETS over ATL with 2 big 4th down stops. He threatened  Pool B champion FastEd7070 who won 13-10 with a game winning Field Goal after the DAL Defense forced Denver's Humphrey to fumble twice. His final game was against DJ Gatoshark and he lead KC to a dominate victory over RAI forcing 5 turnovers and Stepone Paige had 4 TD's.  EddieZ is welcome to return to the Tecmo Rookie League next season as he was brand new to the online sceen.  He would also be a quality fit for any other league and I would expect him to compete for a playoff spot in any league.

Weens 3-7 Overall 3-5 in Pool C
Weens was able to beat ShakeDitty 17-7 using the Colts over the Patriots and a win using the Colts is always something to be proud of.  He was also able to defeat triple20 17-14 in OT using the Raiders against the Chiefs in a back and forth battle.  He gave Pool C powerhouse covid_garbage a run for his money losing with DAL against NO 10-14.  He finished the season with a 10-0 win using CIN to beat WheelsNL's WAS.  The key was dominant CIN defense  who had 3 INT's to keep WAS scoreless. Had he gotten a bit more luck in one of the pool games
and a better draw in his 2 non-pool games than JJT and Alpha TD he likely would be headed to the playoffs.  Weens is welcome to return next year as he was brand new to online Tecmo
at the start of the season.  He also would be a good fit in many other leagues and should be a threat to make the playoffs especially with more time and experience online.

SlapshotSean 3-7 Overall 2-6 in Pool B
SlapshotSean is a player with a lot of potential but he had seemed to have difficulty adjusting from live play at D-Men Tap to online play.  Despite an 0-7 start Sean proved he could play
by winning his final 3 games.  First beating thenicolino 14-7 TB vs. WAS then beating PunkyQB 6-0 DEN vs. DET and finally beating DJ Gatorshark with DAL vs. TB getting 3 pics against Vinny. In his final 3 games he only allowed 17 points.  Sean is welcome back next year as he was new to online Tecmo.  I expect Sean to continue to improve as he now has much more experience in online gaming.  I also expect him to become a bigger threat in live tournament play as live Tecmo tournaments reopen.

BIGNUTT Unofficially 4-0 Overall

It's the season that Best Buy killed in a world where covid already killed promising seasons of real professional teams BIGNUTT had his online season taken away.  He had close wins over JJT, PunkyQB, Green Majik, and fulltimeslacker in the season and was a serious contender to win Pool A and had almost a sure chance to make the playoffs.  He was headed for a showdown with Tecmo DPS and was on track to make a deep playoff run but

it wasn't to be.  Hopefully BIGNUTT will receive his computer someday and return to us.

Pistolpete 7-4 Overall 5-3 in Pool B Lost in 1st Round of Playoffs

After an 0-2 start Pistolpete went on a tear and won 7 out of his last 8 regular season games.  His first win was against ShakeDitty leading the Redskins to victory over the Buccaneers 14-7 despite solid efforts by Wayne Haddix.  Perhaps the most impressive win in his season was taking down Alpha TD in a 14-10 victory MIA over CHI.  Pete ran into a buzzsaw in the first round of the playoffs against iconboxingclub but still had a great season and i'm sure would be welcomed in any online league.  Pete will return in Season 2 and is will be a threat to make a deep run.

scottywaggs 6-5 Overall 4-4 on Pool B Lost in 1st Round of Playoffs

scottywaggs had an impressive win over PistolPete early in his season leading PHI over CIN 24-14 taking control after GangGreen stopped CIN and used a late field goal to seal the win.  He also beat Pool C powerhouse iconboxingclub 17-7 with SEA over NE with an incredible 160 yards on the ground and the Seahawks forcing 2 turnovers due to fumbles. scottywaggs demonstrated excellence on defense in a 17-0 win PIT over DAL against SlapshotSean forcing 3 Interceptions and holding the cowboys to under 50 yards of offense.  He did so again in a bizzare 23-0 WAS over TB win against noyhouse where neither team completed a pass but he was able to run the ball for 247 yards.  scottywaggs season ended in an OT loss against JJT 24-21 the game could have changed when PHI fumbled in OT but it went out of bounds instead.  scottywaggs will return next season and would be a quality opponent in any league or live event.

Mattgt37 6-5 Overall 4-4 in Pool C Lost in 1st Round of Playoffs

Perhaps the most impressive part of Matt's season was his ability to win close games late.  Against nostradamus he was able to force a late turnover and score a TD giving him a 13-7 win JETS over PIT.  He was able to stop iconboxingclub on a 4th and short in OT leading to a 23-17 win KC over MIA.  Against thenicolino he was able to make a 65 yard field goal to win a 10-7 game JETS over DAL.  When he played Weens a late TD was the difference in a 21-14 win GIA over BUF.  His late game heroics landed him a spot in the playoffs and will hopefully give him success next season and in any other league he competes in.

YungTel 5-6 Overall 4-4 in Pool A Lost in 1st Round of Playoffs

After starting 0-3 things didn't look great for YungTel he beat fulltimeslacker 21-7 with CIN over MIA thanks to 2 key turnovers and then doinated SlapshotSean.  He then dropped 2 games to top Pool A players Tecmo DPS and Green Majik leaving him at 2-5 again not the greatest spot to be in.  However his win over CBK and then an OT win over Todd Packer allowed him to make the playoffs.  Hopefully YungTel continues his success in Season 2 as well as any other league he is in.

nostradamus 5-6 Overall 3-5 in Pool C Lost in 1st Round of Playoffs

nostradamus might have had the most interesting season of anyone.  He lost close games to covid_garbage and ShakeDitty to start.  He had the worst draw for non pool games playing Green Majik and FastEd7070.  However he gave FastEd7070 his only loss so far beating him 31-7 GB over CLE having Majkowski pass for 100% completion for 223 yards while Woodside ran for 85 yards on only 6 runs.  He then beat Green Majik 17-14 in the last seconds of Double OT PIT over DEN.  He almost beat iconboxingclub as well but a blocked field goal allowed icon to win 20-14 in OT CIN over KC.  He losted to mattg37 after a late turnover and TD 13-7 JETS over PIT leaving him with a 2-4 record.   He beat C-Dub30 21-3 CHI over PHI in a game that had 6 fumbles.  He held on for a 17-10 victory MIN over DEN against triple20 and then a 16-14 win against Weens GB over TB.  nostradamus finished 6th in his Pool but got the wildcard spot he gave Tecmo DPS a run for his money in a 24-21 loss MIA over MIN.  nostradamus will return next season with a personality that is as interesting as his namesake.

Fox 5-5 Overall 3-5 in Pool B

Fox inherited the 0-4 record of C-Dub and won 2 forfeit games.  He had an impressive 3-1 record on games he played on the field.  He beat WheelsNL 17-14 SD over KC on the strength of a late field goal.  He also had a 30-14 KC over MIA  against SlaphshotSean with Okoye finding the endzone multiple times and going over the 180 mark.  His other win came when he beat Weens 21-7 DEN over Rams.  Fox showed he is capable of making an impact in this league and i look forward to seeing him get the chance to play a full season in Season 2.

CBK 4-6 Overall 3-5 in Pool A

CBK had some pretty good games this season.  He competed with Pool A powerhouse GreenMajik using the NO defense to force 4  JETS turnovers but unfortunantly Eric McMillian had 3 Interceptions of his own allowing the JETS to win 14-6 over NO.  He was also able to overcome being down 10-0 against fulltimeslacker using the Raiders defense to hold the Eagles scoreless in the 2nd half and winning 14-10 stopping the final PHI drive in the red zone.  CBK won his last 2 games first a 23-0 win over SlapshotSean MIN over WAS and then a 21-7 win against Todd Packer PHI over BUF.  Hopefully CBK can run with this momentum to season 2 of TRL and any other Tecmo league he is in.

WheelsNL 5-6 Overall 4-4 in Pool C Lost in 1st Round of Playoffs

WheelsNL inherited an 0-1 record when he entered the league but in his first game a dominate second half resulted in a 31-7 WAS over PIT win over nostradamus.   He again lead the Redskins to success beating Mattg37 and the Bengals 17-7.  A late TD with the Cowboys got him a win over ShakeDitty and the Jets 17-14.  He also beat triple20 7-6 on the strength of the Bengals defense over the Lions.  In his first week he went 4-1.  He struggled a bit later in the season but a win over EddieZ 31-21 Rams over MIA which was enough for him to make the playoffs.  He wasn't able to best Alpha TD in a 17-10 WAS over MIN game but he had a very good season.  WheelsNL showed immediately he can get his games in and would be a great fit for any league and will return for season 2.

noyhouse 4-7 overall 3-5 in Pool A Lost in 1st Round of Playoffs

noyhouse had a big OT win early over YungTel 10-7 TB over WAS.  Close loses against fulltimeslacker, PunkyQB, and Green Majik left noyhouse with little chance to make playoffs.  However he won over CBK 21-13 CIN over KC and then a 17-14 PHI over RAI win over Todd Packer where QB Eagles scored on 4th and goal and Bo wasn't able to take back the lead before the game ended.  These games allowed noyhouse to sneak into the playoffs where he fell to #1 seed FastEd7070 22-14 PIT over TB.  noyhouse will return to the league in Season 2 and i wish him luck in that league and any other league he is in.

fulltimeslacker 4-6 overall 3-5 in Pool A

Early in the season fulltimeslacker was able to best Todd Packer 10-7 NO over ATL.  He made a stop when noyhouse went for the win instead of a tie and DET beat MIA 16-13.  He also beat PunkyQB 14-3 by holding keeping the Eagles high scoring offense out of the end zone leading the Radiers to victory.  Close loses to CBK and JJT keep him from reaching the playoffs but he has a good chance of doing so next year.

thenicolino 3-7 overall 2-6 in Pool B

thenicolino had some close loses early in the season losing to mattg37 10-7 JETS over DAL when it came down to a last second kicking duel and dropping a game 21-14 to PistolPete CHI over CIN despite forcing 2 turnovers by James Brooks.  He beat EddieZ 24-21 in overtime when the Raiders had one long time consuming drive agsinst the Bears and kicked a field goal with only 5 seconds left inside the 10 yard line.  He lost a tough game to Slapshotsean who scored 14 early and held on for a 14-7 win TB over WAS.  He was able to finish the season on a high note beating DJ Gatoshark 17-14 CIN over MIA.  thenicolino will return next season and hopes to make a run to the playoffs.

Todd Packer 2-8 overall 1-7 in Pool A

Todd Packer is a player from long ago who played in the keyboard and excessive lag era so it was okay for him to rejoin in the modern online era for one season.  He even started up his old league during his return.  Todd played in a lot of close games but came up just short losing to JJT, fulltimeslacker, YungTel, and noyhouse all by less than a TD.  He got a win in bizarre fashion when he beat PunkyQB in a SEA vs. NE match when SEA got a safety in OT to win 2-0.  Todd Packer will be focusing on his own league and i wish him luck.

PunkyQB 2-8 overall 1-7 in Pool A

PunkyQB lost an early game to JJT in a 14-7 DET over PunkyQB was able to make a late stop but wasn't able to punch in a TD before time expired.  A similar thing happened against noyhouse when SD held CHI out of the end zone in a 14-7 game but this time PunkyQB was on the other end and got a win.  He was able to keep Todd Packer and the Seattle offense from scoring an entire game with his Patriots but it wasn't enough as Packer won 2-0 in OT with a safety.  PunkyQB lost a close game to SlapshotSean late 6-0 DEN over DET as PunkyQB again had great defense but lacked offense.  PunkyQB has the defense to compete if he can step up his offense he will be a threat to win any game.  PunkyQB runs a unique 2 on 2 tournament that started in the Madison area but this year will run in Green Bay on September 18th as part of the Full Nelson III weekend.

DJ Gatorshark 1-9 Overall 0-8 in Pool B

DJ Gatorshark entered the league receiving the 0-4 record of a previous player and later received a forfeit win so he only had 5 games to play that he used to get ready for next season.  He steadily improved and threatened to beat thenicolino but ultimately fell in a 17-14 MIA over CIN game.  Like so many of us DJ has struggled early but if he continues to try and learn he will get better.  Hopefully his Season 2 gives him some learning experience and some victories.

ShakeDitty 5-6 Overall 4-4 in Pool C Lost in Round 1 of Playoffs

Originally entering the league as XtraLargent he later changed his handle to ShakeDItty.  He started the league with a dominate 35-7 win over Todd Packer SF over PHI.  He bested nostradamus 28-21 MIA over RAMS when Mark Clayton scored with 9 seconds left for the win.  He again had an impressive 38-21 win DEN over SD against C-Dub30.  Barry Sanders led his Lions in a 21-10 win over Triple20 and his Bengals.  ShakeDitty was impressive again in win PIT over ATL where he somehow scored 35 points with PIT.  He forced covid_garbage to live up to his name losing only because on last second 70 yard TD's to end the half and regulation to force OT where covid won on a field goal 31-28 DAL over PHX.  In the playoffs ShakeDitty had Green Majik on the ropes but a 14 point 4th Quarter and then Sharpe decided not to jump for the win which allowed Green Majik to sneak into the 2nd round 21-17 SEA over GB.  ShakeDitty is a contender to make a deep playoff run in Season 2.

PaskDaYooper 8-4 Overall 6-2 in Pool B Lost in Round 2 of Playoffs

PaskDaYooper was a part of the Michigan Trio that dominated Pool B only losing to his other 2 Michigan players in Pool play.  An early highlight happened after the Jets were down 3-7 against the Cardinals and PaskDaYooper delievered a legendary halftime speech leading to 28 2nd half points and a 31-14 victory over scottywaggs.  He held on against PistolPete 27-21 GB over SEA in double OT.  He dominated Mattg37 30-0 in the first round of the playoffs DEN over TB but fell to old rival FastEd7070 in the 2nd round.  PaskDaYooper had a very good season but hopes to get even further next season and will be a threat to win whatever Pool he is in.

Alpha TD 8-4 Overall 6-2 in Pool B Lost in Round 2 of Playoffs

Alpha TD was another part of the Michigan Trio.  Alpha TD started with a 17-10 loss against FastEd7070 in a game filled with lag PHI over MIA.  WAS over MIN 28-0 was the result when he defeated PaskDaYooper holding him to 36 yards of offense making him believe this match was his friend.  He then beat Weens 13-0 then SlapshotSean 31-0 meaning he played 3 straight games without giving up a point.  The match up again was WAS vs. MIN against scottywaggs Alpha TD's Redskins jumped to a 24-7 lead but waggs made a game out of it with the final score 24-21 giving him more confidence in this match.  In the playoffs WheelsNL WAS vs. MIN and Alpha TD again won 17-10 with the Redskins making him 3-0 in the match.  In round 2 he called WAS vs. MIN against Tecmo DPS and got his Redskins.  This time the Redskins turned on him and gave up 2 fumbles that the Vikings picked up and ran in for TD's in the 1st Quarter the game ended 31-14.  Alpha TD is among the very best players in the graduating class of Season 1 and will make a fine competitive player in any league.  I have a feeling he will also be a strong player in the Tecmo Kumite for years to come.

JJT 9-3 Overall 6-2 in Pool A Lost in Round 2 of Playoffs

The most enthusiastic player in the league finished his entire season in the first week of play and waited for the league to catch up with him.  JJT started strong beating Todd Packer, YungTel, and fulltimeslacker to get 3 early wins.  Painful turnovers lead to loses against top Pool A players Tecmo DPS and Green Majik to keep JJT from the Pool A title.  JJT finished the season solid with 4 wins in which he only allowed a total of 17 points.  In the playoffs JJT beat scottywaggs on an OT field goal 24-21 PHI over CIN.  JJT wasn't able to avoid falling victim to covid_garbage as he was defeated 21-14 DEN over DET.  JJT is the kind of player anyone would want in their league extremely fast to play games and competitive and he will be a threat to all opponents in Season 2.

Tecmo DPS 11-2 Overall 8-0 in Pool A Lost in Semifinals

A favorite going into the season to win it all DPS had a great season.  Early in the season he forced Marion Butts to cough up the ball and then had a TD drive which helped him in a 14-7 DET over SD win against JJT. In a matchup the eventually was the difference for the Pool A championship Tecmo DPS beat fellow D-Men tap rival Green Majik 33-21 PHI over SD jumping out to a 16-0 lead was key as it was too much to overcome.  He ended up going undefeated in Pool A and was able to get a #2 seed in the playoffs he only had 2 regular season wins where his opponent was within 7 points.  In the first round DPS was able to fend off nostradamus who had made a habit of giving top players trouble in the league when MIA beat MIN 24-21.  Early fumbles by WAS allowed DPS to beat Alpha TD 31-14 in round 2 MIN over WAS.  In the semifinals DPS feel in a close 15-13 loss to covid_garbage MIA over KC with Marino coming in to bail out the team.  DPS will again be a favorite to win the league in season 2 he will also be a threat in any form of Tecmo or Retro sports game he plays.
