Tecmo Super Bowl SNES RB ratings

Inspired by Tecmo Geek's excellent NES TSB player rating site, I wanted to find/do something similar for TSB on SNES. With no math skills, even less coding skills and average Tecmo knowledge, right now all we got is a spreadsheet with some raw numbers.

Got all 56 QBs and all 112 RBs plugged with numbers for all their attributes + a total overall raw score. What does it all mean? Not sure, but it may give a glimpse into how Tecmo viewed the NFL heading into the 1993 season.

I grew up on SNES version of Tecmo and also felt like the series peaked with either the NES or SNES versions of TSB. Recently got into the Genesis version, and there are some notable roster changes between the Nintendo and Sega versions of the game.

Two more quick thoughts than onto to QBs:

  • Seahawks running game has a chance to be really special. Seattle also is one of those teams with below average QBs and WRs but his blessed with a really nice playbook. Bad team, great playbook is something you see in both NES TSB and SNES TSB
  • Maybe they were still young in their careers but I always thought Ricky Watters, Jerome Bettis,  and Rodney Hampton were much better in SNES TSB

On QBs, SF, BUF, ATL, and HOU all have a pair of start worthy signal callers. At the end of the list, Neil O'Donnell, Steve Walsh, Wade Wilson, Dave Krieg all have near the same raw number. LOL thanks to the whatever avoid the rush rating is Chris Miller is somehow one whole point above Warren Moon here?!?! Assume Avoid The Rush in SNES TSB is the same as Avoid The Pass Block in NES TSB?

Onto the Wide Receivers .....

Some thoughts on SNES TSB 1 QBs: Yeah, it feels like there is and the numbers lean to there being a hueg drop off after the top 10. Kosar? Rypien? Everett? All three near top 10 QBs in the game and they never really feel like it.

Does Steve Young ever get brought up as a Tecmo beast in any of the games? Clearly the best QB in the SNES TSB 1 game but still somehow underrated?

For the Wideouts it's Jerry Rice and everyone else. The 37 point margin between Rice and second place is the biggest gap between the number 1 and number 2 players for any position group so far.

LOL Ronnie Harmon? Ronnie Harmon? How? Why?

I'm a huge NYG fan but don't know why Mark Jackson is so highly rated here.

Next up, early 90s Tight Ends!

What's the difference between pass control and pass accuracy?

Also, the ball control attributes seem to be completely random. No idea if worst BC means more fumbling.

The quickness attribute for defensive player is another one I wish I knew how it related to actual gameplay
