**War Games Official Rules**

The War Games league tournament is a culmination of the past 3 seasons of the tecmo 2K league.  This tournament is only open to league members where each owner takes their best team from the 3 seasons to battle it out for the ultimate 2K champion.


WHAT:  War Games 2K League Tournament

WHEN:  Begins 5/14/19 and expected to last 4 weeks. 

WHERE:  Online

Buy-In:  FREE

Prizes: $500 Winner Take All

I.  Format:  Group Play followed by Single Elimination bracket


  • Group Play (4 Players per group):
    • Round Robin so everyone is guaranteed 3 games.
    • In order to move on to single elimination bracket, you must finish at least 2-1 in group play.  If byes are needed in single elim bracket, Group winners will be prioritized first.  See tiebreakers later in this thread.


  • Single Elimination Bracket:
    • The bracket will be single elimination throughout.
    • Players will be seeded purely based on performance in group play with no regard to skill.  For example, If there are 8 teams who make it to bracket play, they will be seeded 1-8 based on following criteria:
      • Group Winner
      • Group Record
      • Point Differential
      • Highest seed based on group draft


Skill is not a determining factor in seeding.  It is purely on performance in group.  Just going to rank every team on the above criteria and however the matchups shake out then so be it.  So if Nos is #1 seed and Joeygats is #8 seed based on how they performed in group, then they will play each other.

IIa.  Coin Toss procedure for Determining Home Team

In Group Play:


  • Home team (P1) can be determined in two ways:
  1. Discord virtual coin toss:  winner of toss is Home
  2. Load any two player preseason game (teams are irrelevant) and run the coin toss.  Winner of toss is home.


In Bracket Play:

  • Higher seed is home


IIb.  ROM Drops and Alignments

Owners will have 4 opportunities to change alignments in this tournament. 


  1.   Before Group play begins.  The ROM dropped for group play must be used for all 3 games.
  2.   Before Bracket play begins.  ROM dropped at start of bracket play and must be used up until Final 4 matchups. 
  3.   Before Final 4 begins
  4.   Before Championship game

III.  TIEBREAKERS Group Winner and Byes: 

Point Differential:  For tiebreakers, point differential will matter.  However, it will be capped at 21 in a given game.  So if you win 35-0, you only get 21 for point differential. 


  • For Group Winner: 
    • If there are three 2-1 teams in a group, the group “winner” will be determined by the below tiebreaker.  The other 2-1 teams still qualify for single elim bracket just wont be considered a group winner.
      • Head to Head between all tied teams.  If three way tie then proceed to next bullet.  
      • Point Differential in games between the tied teams. Games vs a team who is not tied, does not count. 
      • If two teams have the same point differential then the 3rd team is eliminated from the tiebreaker and the two remaining teams will go back to head to head tiebreaker.
      • Fewest Points Allowed
      • Highest “seed” based on group draft


  • For Byes and seeding: 
    • For seeding and if byes are required in single elimination bracket, then the following criteria will determine who earns the higher seed/bye.  For list of how many byes there would be in bracket, see chart at bottom.  
      • Group Winners
      • Group record
      • Point Differential
      • Highest “seed” based on group draft


For example:  If there are 4 bye spots available in the bracket, it will happen as follows:

  • There are x amount of potential group winners, we need to move to next step with the x since we need to pair it down to 4.
  • Group record:  Of the x amount of group winners, sort by record.  For example say 8 of the x amount group winners are 3-0 and 6 are 2-1.  The 8 3-0 teams remain in tiebreaker since we need 4 byes.  Move to next step with the 8 3-0 teams.
  • Of the 8 remaining, we would take the 4 highest point differentials since there are 4 bye spots.  if there are equal point differentials then would move to next step for teams that have the same point diff.
  • Highest seed heading into tournament.

IV.  In Game/Post Game/General Rules


POSITION LIMITATIONS: RBs can play RB, WR or TE without restriction.  WRs & TEs can play RB, WR or TE... BUT THEY MAY NEVER RUN THE BALL FROM THE RB POSITION.  Any player may run the ball on reverses, however. 


NO LURCHING:  When crossing over the line of scrimmage WITHIN the restricted circle with a DL, before making a play on the ball carrier (QB or RB), you must first bump or grapple with an opposing player who is not the ball carrier. There are no restrictions on DL when the offense is in the shotgun or when crossing over the line of scrimmage OUTSIDE the restricted circle.


  • If opponent lurches (whether the runner is tackled or not) the offensive team is awarded an automatic first down. 
  • If opponent does it again (after first time consequence is enforced) the game is automatically awarded to the other team.


**If lurching occurs and nobody says anything until game is over or later on in the game, there is no going back to enforce.  The rules must be enforced as it happened and will not go back and replay anything.  KNOW THE RULE and KNOW TO ENFORCE THE RULE!


FOURTH MAN DOWN: Use of fourth man down on PATs is ILLEGAL.  FGs are LEGAL.

  • Consequence of using 4th man down on XP:  If someone used 4th man down on XP and its blocked, then the kicking team is awarded 2 points.  The score may not reflect the 2 points but it will count towards the teams score. 


ONSIDE KICKS: Onside kicks are legal at any point in the game.


OVERTIME:  The 2K league will use the modern NFL OT hack.

  • Each team must possess, or have the opportunity to possess, the ball. The exception: if the team that gets the ball first scores a touchdown on the opening possession or the defense scores a safety on opening possession.
  • If team with ball first kicks a FG, then other team gets the ball and can win on TD or can force suddent if they kick a FG to tie.
  • There will be no clock for overtime.  NO TIES.  Game gets settled until there is a victor.


DESYNCS: In the event of a game desyncing, the owners involved need to man up and sort it out. If they can't, the commissioner will make a determination about what should be done. Generally speaking, the game ought to be replayed from the point of the desync if possible.


SCHEDULING:  Any deadline missed will result in both players receiving a loss.  However, the tourney director can use his discretion to make a call if someone is making more of an effort than another.  These factors will play a role in "effort" evaluation:

  • Only direct messages in discord will count towards effort.  Tagging in 2K channel will not count since things get lost in there quickly.
  • Messages sent during abnormal hours will not count!  Dont send messages at 3AM local time of your opponent and think that will count as effort. 
  • BOTTOM LINE:  COMMUNICATE!!!  Dont tag your opponent when youre ready to play.  Tag them hours or days before and schedule something. 


NO QUITTING / NO ASSHOLES: Do not quit, give up, forfeit, or throw any league game. Always compete to win, and always strive to maintain the integrity (standings, statistics and general well-being) of this great league.  Do not skip the coin toss unless there is mutual agreement to do so. After the game, if you lose, you must allow a reasonable amount of time for your opponent to get a save state and snap of the game summary screen.  Don't be an "asshole" in-game either, which can be defined in a variety of ways, but for now shall remain the sole discretion of the commissioner to interpret and enforce. Remember though, in case you ever need to file a complaint, to ALWAYS RECORD... for without video proof it's far less likely any action will be taken on your behalf for in-game douchebaGGery.


CHEATING:  No collusion between owners.  No using turbo. No using the play-picking program.  However, the Conditions Checker program is permissible.  If you are new and don't know about this program, you might be interested in learning more about it (allows you to see the conditions of all players, offense/defense, on both teams on a seperate side window)... it can be downloaded somewhere on this website.


COMPLAINTS:  If you think your opponent has broken any of the game rules or the game was unplayable due to lag or desynchs, please register your complaint with them. If a just conclusion is not reached between the two contestants, or if the violation affects the result of the game, then you may file a complaint AFTER THE GAME with the commissioner by sending him a PM, preferably.  Cases of game rule violations will be dealt with on a game-by-game basis; possible penalties may include, but are not limited to, a forced replay or forfeited win.
