Question regarding versions:  Is the NES Classic Edition version the only one that is compatible with the NES classic?  if not, what makes the NES classic edition different?

I would think I can put them all on the NES classic, no?

I appreciate your feedback

SgtD666

The NES Classic Edition is basically the Juiced Plus version without the sprite limit / 15 sprite per scanline hacks. (Since I don't think there is a way to enable those options on the NES Classic system hardware itself.)

If you play the other versions on it, you may see the big invisible bars running down the screen, sometimes covering the players, and not the flickering the original cart would have.

Is there a reason nearly every defender is rated the same from a speed perspective. For example basically every OLB is 50RS and 56RP.  This type of problem applies to many positions.

I have actually made a rating cap scale for balance. I wanted the defense to play fast, especially on the edges, while still being

at a slight disadvantage to the offense. In the end, I felt going above 50RS for LB's would have made Juiced / Juiced Plus nearly impossible

for a run game, but going below 44RS made games too easy. This was really done for difficulty. I did want the defensive players to match

offensive players 69RP, while still leaving them at a disadvantage here also at 56RP. I did experiment a bit and going lower than 56RP on some players

made the offense just go right through them in my findings. I guess in the end I wanted difficulty and balance but if my thinking is flawed, I appreciate

the input! @bruddog

It just makes having names attached to the defenders kinda pointless since they will all perform the same.

a khalil mack is the same as any other outside lb on the rom.

Mack was one of the few I did assign a 63MS to, but I do see how RP can diversify players a bit more.

Thanks bruddog. I am going to run some tests. If i do a RP scale, I will add it to the notes. Stay tuned :)

Dayum, great job! I wish i could make juice to be applied on CPU vs CPU games too (especially on J+ rom)

BTW, what is hybrid defense and extra db? Isn't there only 4 db in a team?

Thank you!

The ROLB is a slot (nickel) corner or safety on all 32 teams.

Some teams have a DE at LOLB and just two linebackers.

Some teams have a LB at DE

I found last season that most teams are actually running a nickel base even on first down, and the 3rd / 4th LB's were seeing very little snaps.

Yep, now i see. Cameron Jordan, Calais Campbell, Takk McKinley and some other guys i didn't notice by a quick look - listed as LB. Interesting trend to follow as league becomes more and more pass-oriented.

Looking across the community roms, I see that everyone decided to stay true to Tecmo Super Bowl's original 69RP for all offensive players as well.

Doesn't this, in a way, make them perform almost identically as well? I think this is what went into my decision. I wanted the ratings to be 'uniform.'

So now I guess I'm looking for feedback from everyone. Do you like the idea of altering RP to a scale for offense as well? A scale for defense only?

Thanks once again, @bruddogfor the constructive feedback. You've made the wheels in my head turn a bit more than they usually do lol.

Rushing power is another area that could have been utilized  by the creators for offensive players to further differentiate them. You need to get rushing power down below 44 or so for offense before its pretty noticeable.

MS still does A LOT to differentiate offensive players. Bo with 75 ms performs way differently than gil fenerty with 44 ms.

jerry rice with 69 ms performs way differently tha proehl with 19 ms.

Back to the linebacker example. You really notice the difference between say a lawrence taylor or the nyg lbers vs say any of the TB lbers.

Your scale for defenders is so compressed that their isnt much difference between them. For defense maximum speed is no where near as important as running speed or rushing power since. Your best lb plays like lawrence taylor and your worst like derrick thomas pretty much.

1. Defenders rushing power is much lower in general

2. All defenders have a top speed greater than offensive players. Its more complicated than that but thats a rule of thumb. This is why you can catch up to offensive players that get behind you.

I don't recall if this was exactly it but basically you can think of the max speed as if there should be 100 added to it. In other words a LB with 44 MS has like 144 MS compared to the offensive player.

You might want to consider moving the nickel back from ROLB to RILB as the ROLB typically engages the LT and the RILB will drop back in coverage.

Here is exactly how it works

1.  For 0.5 a second. The defender accelerates at their normal Rushing power. And their top speed you can essentially think of as adding 100 to their

top speed as @Knobbe said. But no defender can reach his top speed in 0.5 a second.

2. After 0.5 a second. The defender rushing power gets dropped 3 skill levels. If it is lower than 31 rp, it gets set to 31 rushing power to have as a bare minimum. The maximum speed gets dropped 7 skill levels. So now you can think of defender top speed as offensive max speed +44.

3. Once the offensive player crosses the line of scrimmage. The defenders max speed is boosted 5 notches. So now your defender you can think of defender top speed as offensive max speed +75.
