Listed below is the format for the Phoenix tourney. Anyone play in a tournament format like this before? If so, how did it turn out?

Each matchup will consist of 2 games and the same 2 teams for that matchup, with each player keeping the same team for both games. This will ensure that each player for that matchup will be able to be player 1 to make it as fair as possible. Though there will be 2 games played between 2 people, it only counts as one game in the standings. If one player wins both games, then they will be (1-0) and the loser will be (0-1). If each player wins 1 game each, we will add up the scores of the 2 games to determine the winner. If there is a tie after that, OT rules will then apply.

The first round of play will consist of several groups of players which will be picked at random. All groups will have the same amount of players in it unless there is an odd number where we can not have the same number of players in each group. In this case there will be one group with an extra player in it. Each player will play everyone in their group. After the first group play is done, the top 2 players in each group will advance to the next round. If there is a tie in the standings within a group, the tiebreakers will be as followed:

1. head to head

2. point differential

3. If still tied after that, there will be OT played with normal OT rules applied

The second round will consist of the top 2 players of each group. These players will then be put randomly into 2 different groups. Each player will play everyone in their group just as the first group play was. Once the second group play is complete, the top player in each group will face off for the championship. Both second place players from each group will face off for 3rd place.

Phoenix Tecmo Super Bowl Tournament #1 is in the books.

Screen pics are of the championship games between Isaac "Turbo Tap" Wright & William "JJ" Jen.

1st Place - Isaac "Turbo Tap" Wright (middle)

2nd Place - William "JJ" Jen (right)

3rd Place - Mike "Bullseye" Oberhaus (left)

Championship games: Isaac (Dolphins) vs William (Vikings)

The combination of badly timed turnovers and the inability to stop Marino/Clayton doomed William. Isaac cruised to victories in both games to cap off an amazing afternoon and is crowned the champion of Phoenix Tecmo Super Bowl Tournament #1

Championship games MVP (Dan Marino) 293 yards 0 int

Basement Nemesis lives in Tuscon, AZ but wasn't able to commit this year.

I've heard there are quite a few solid players throughout the AZ area.

How many people were at your tournament? Nice job as well!
