I didn't remember him being on the 9ers in 96, so I looked it up, and I can't find a single reference to him being on the team, despite the fact that they have him as a starter. A lot of the time a guy would sign with a team in the off-season, but ended up retiring or switching teams before the season actually started. It's possible the 49ers signed Johnson but he called it a career before the season began. TSB for the PSX actually has some players who never played a single down in the NFL. It seems to they either signed him, or tried to sign him, but he didn't get the money he wanted so he held out. That's exactly what happened. He's one of my favorite players. When I was like a sophmore in highschool, I was extatic to find out he he was gonna be a 49'er and actually be on a good team...a WINNING TEAM, then POOF.........he was gone. Too bad, because he could catch the ball out of the backfield, and woulda' been a perfect fit for that offense.....they actually won a Superbowl around that time. That gotta be Johnsons' regret.
