Is this worth buying?

I found a used gamestore last week that tried to cut me a deal of 15 dollars on this game. i have never played it, he claimed it was the best one, I figured that was just him trying to get me to buy it.

So I ask you guys is it really any good?

I do have the SNES cartridge of TSB 1 finally, and wouldn't mind having them all I guess.

Is it the SNES or Gens version? I found the SNES version to be pretty fun actually and $15 is a good price

Yea it's worth it! They didnt make very many of them. To get it back in the day we had to rent it and "lose" it to buy it. The three season thing is pretty cool.

Yep it's the SNES version. Guy wanted 25 bucks for it, offered me 15 cause I bought TSB I for the SNES from him, and he sells used DVDs that I've been buying real cheap.

Think I might get it Friday. This is the only one I have never played.

to each their own, but i personally prefer the genesis tecmo super bowl games over the snes. not saying the snes ones are bad i like them as well, but i just like the genesis games better. 13 years ago i bought the genesis one at a beeper shop and i was lucky because i wasn't expecting to get it until i saw it for 5 bucks. my older brother bought in the beginning of 1995 but sold all the genesis and snes games to buy the playstation 1 the next year or 2. to this day i have all 3 super bowl games on genesis and tsb 3 on snes plus the tsb psx game. but i have collected all of them thru emulation. so yes get the game because chances are if u don't have emulation or play them that you might never see it again. besides i really enjoyed the bgm music for the genesis tsb 2 plus the cutscenes when you win the division,afc/nfc title and super bowl as well as when you get 100 yards rushing,300 yards passing and 150 yards receiving.

have you ever actually, realized all the flaws the gens versions 1 & 2 actually have??? stat tracking in 1 is horribly inaccurate. On tsb2 the sim code is wayyyyy off!! I was just tinkering around with hacking tsb2 during the Olympics and noticed the amount of scores that ended in ties and the same scores that repeated. Much like Tecmo bowl kickoff. I do like the way the graphics are in the gens versions, just not all the flaws. It makes them unplayable.

I agree there, and the one thing TSB II is missing for stat tracking is turnovers and all that. They should have made a category for who's got the most INT, FUM, and all together and you could track that data next to the stats of defenses. If that was in the game or at least TSB III I wouldn't go through all the trouble of calculating turnovers going into the playoffs.

Can't believe it's been 6 years since I first bought this game. I've played so much of it, it's not only become my favorite Tecmo, it's pretty much the only one I play anymore! Definitely my favorite football game ever. I feel like I've been playing it for a lifetime just from knowing so much about it. I really hope other people play it in the future, cause I feel like the only person in the world who loves this game LOL.

I really hope some day in the future I can get into editing/hacking and make my own custom ROM. I want to do the 1989, 1990 and 1991 seasons as something of a prequel to TSB II. The only gameplay mechanic I would want to alter is the COM going for 2 point conversions often. I'd completely cut 2 point conversions out to be accurate on the seasons they're based on.

Wow, can't believe how cheap you got it for back then.  I paid close to a $100 for a complete in box version of the game this year.  It was the most elusive game for me throughout the years. I pre-ordered a copy of the game when I was a kid from a store in a different state, but they ended up not getting a shipment of it. Ever since then, it was on my list of games to get for years. I finally buckled down and bought it when I saw a complete copy. TSB 1 for SNES will always be my favorite, but I really liked the different years you could play in this version.  It really is a good blend of 1 and 3.

Wow, that's a big price tag to pay for this. Wish you could've got it as cheap as I did.

Only thing about my copy was that there was a very small tear in the label. It's barely noticeable from a distance though, but I got it dirt cheap.

Sadly today, that local game store from my area is no more. The guy running it moved to a flea market up in the city where he was getting better business with selling selections of modern games and stuff going back to the 2000's (PS2 and XBox era stuff was his main source of trade). He had gotten the SNES and older era console games from trading and I don't think he realized that he had something so valuable when he sold me TSB II so cheap. I really miss his store cause I found so many great old games from him. He hooked me up with all 3 SNES Tecmos and a number of other great retro games. I haven't bought many old games since his store closed. I've been kicking myself for over a year now for passing on an offer for a copy of Dragon Ball Z: Legacy of Goku II and Buu's Fury on the GBA when he offered me both of them for just 10 dollars.

I just got into this game after Knobbe inquired about the possibility of writing an editor for it.

At first I thought 'Why would we want one? Nobody plays this.'

I played it for like 10 minutes once a long time ago and thought I'd stick to TSB1.

But after playing it for a bit longer, I really, really like it and am working on an editor for it now.

It's like $50 for a non-boxed US copy on eBay now. I never remember seeing it in stores back in the day. I just saw TSB3 one day and thought they skipped TSB2 for some weird reason.

I think all TSB fans should try it for a few games.

One funny thing they forgot to address here were the uniforms when you play the same team against themselves as you have everyone in the same uniform and can't tell the difference.

TSB III also lets you play as the same team vs each other but seems to have addressed the issue.

TSB 2 definitely isn't for everyone. Hell, for the longest time, I was convinced that I was the only person out there playing this game. It's my favorite Tecmo and always will be.

I think my main appeal of this game (looking back at posts I made years ago) was the difficulty originally. It truly is the most difficult of all the Tecmo games, mainly due to how unpredictable it is. Football in general is unpredictable and this game does a good job of replicating that.

Extra points are not automatic, fumbles can happen at any time even with the most ball control players, passes can be tipped and intercepted, interceptions are occasionally ran all the way back for a TD, the COM calls your play more regularly, and injuries are even more random than the other games. If you go through this game playing a season and just walk it through the park not paying a whole lot of attention, the COM will catch you off guard and trip you up. Even in a successful season with just a few losses, the COM will make sure you have to grind out some of those wins in hard fought battles.

The only thing I dislike about the additional difficulty is when the COM decides to be a moron and go for 2 points when the TD they just scored only needs 1 point to tie the game. But occasionally, the COM will convert those 2 point conversions, and now you're down 8-7 or 15-14 and it changes the entire course of the game.

The COM also gets "juiced" on you like the other games. When you're trying to go undefeated in this game, good luck, cause the COM will break bad on you with the most unexpected team and it gets even harder in the playoffs. Buffalo usually is the team that gives me the most fits when I am playing in the playoffs. The COM will find ways to just be a pain in the ass to you with the Bills.

Beyond the difficulty though, this game is truly special for players who like to play entire seasons, cause it has 3 complete seasons in it. The rosters and playbooks change too and are very accurate to the 1992 and 1993 seasons they are based on. The Giants playbook for instance changes year to year (which would make sense with them having different coaches. Dan Reeves took over in 1993 and their playbook changes in the 1993 season, becoming a Smashmouth offense). A couple of them stay mostly the same based on what teams were running the same systems year to year (Lions with their hybrid Run-N Shoot, Oilers with the Run-N-Shoot, Niners, Packers and Bucs with their West Coast style offense).

The 1994 season isn't as accurate, just as the 1993 and 1995 seasons for TSB 1 and 3 aren't, but it's still fun to play. They do accurately predict the Niners being the best team in the game, mostly cause they have a star-studded defense with all the additions they added in the 1994 off season. The only thing Tecmo gets wrong with the Niners in that year, is Steve Young's attributes are not quite what they should be for his MVP year, but he's still a good version of Young. The best Steve Young in this game though is the 1992 season.

The only thing I don't know a lot about in this game is the trade mode. I don't know the probability or how random it is. I usually only play the seasons out and go year to year.
