cokemanmat
Just started playing tecmo again, hadn't played it since it came out. I was wondering what the "lurch" was. Thanks. If anyone wants to play an online game just give me a shout and take it easy on me.
Nameless Losers Plaything
As a defender, you control the nose tackle. Once the play starts, move him slightly off center and dive. Will sack most QB's.
LouisOliver
The lurch is ultra-fast bob nelson's signature move.

ThanksJust imagine the nose tackle taking a step down and forward and then diving, sacking the quarterback.
Knobbe
Try this out with the Packers, Raiders, or Eagles.

WackoforFlacco
I know being a Steelers fan I may go a little overboard harping about them, but I have to throw in a good word for Gerald Williams who does the lurch so well that not only do I get a slew of sacks with him, I can occasionally nail some running backs with him. JeanChretien
Jeff Wright had a NT Lurch in SB XXV on Ottis Anderson in the forth q in real life . It was great. MvG Sports
WackoforFlacco
I take back my apology. I cannot harp on Gerald enough. I am going into my week 5 bye week with 45 sacks. Bob Nelson can kiss my white hairy ass.

hamburgler2682
Jeff Wright had a NT Lurch in SB XXV on Ottis Anderson in the forth q in real life . It was great. Seeing as how I am half as big as the offensive lineman, I decided to lurch in our intramural football league. I got two sacks by jutting through the hole between the center and the dude next to him before their offensive lineman started tackling me. Thats right, tackling me. My teamattes and I called penalties but they didn't agree. We tried to reason them, saying that grabbing the defensive player by the back and riding him into the ground was some sort of holding penalty, but they didn't agree. They won the argument because they were at least twice our size (I'm 148 and our other players hover around 175 while I swear the lineman on the other team went about 260). I hate big people. I can probably do it the BEST with him...when I'm not Rod...which is twice a season...so I get about 2sacks with him a year...which is pretty good for me. Sacks=not interceptions
WackoforFlacco
In the short time I have been a member here. It quickly became obvious to me by reading a good deal of the posts both new and by digging into the backlog that this seems to be the Roe vs. Wade of the Tecmo Bowl world. It seems that a lot more of you oppose the lurch or the ones who do are just more vocal about it. I feel that if you can amuse yourself by pounding the crap out of the QBs all season with your noseguard well knock yourself out. If you are having fun who am I to criticize. As for man vs. man where this gets a lot more heated, I feel that anything you can do to advance your chances of obtaining Tecmo glory, go for it. Just DO NO SKIP THE COIN TOSS!!!!! Unless Randall is hurt and I am stuck with Jim McMahon I personally lick my chops when I see my opponent chose the NT and get that silly grin on his face. I learned very early on that if you slide strait up or down (I think up) rather than try to drop back you can dodge the lurch. Since your opponent has sold out on trying to get to the QB, there is a pretty good chance that they called a run play to bolster that part of their defense. Well, this gives you your choice of receivers and there is no way some fat assed NT is going to get downfield and catch any WR that is worth a crap. Also there are plenty of shotgun formations to chose from and any run play that the lurch would shut down is usually not very effective in man vs. man games anyway. So instead of banning the lurch I say encourage the lurch. They'll learn. Support the Tecmo players right to chose!
yo136
I realize that there are plenty of plays to counter the lurch. However, it limits your playbook in what you can and can't use. Yes, you can teach them a lesson with the proper plays, but if they decide to play another position, you're at a disadvantage. Yes, you can let people choose to lurch or not and you won't have a cheesy game if people know which plays to put in their playbook. I just wouldn't want to play with such a limited playbook each time. I don't mind that you like playing that way. However, I can also understand why it's such a popular rule in leagues and individual matches. I would doubt that anyone here would object to you playing a game of tecmo with another person where lurches are legal. Just like I'm sure that you won't object to two tecmoers who wish to play a game where you skip the coin toss. When playing someone with a different system, you have to find out what you're willing to compromise on. For me, I'm not willing to compromise on the lurch rule for the reason stated above. Another rule I rarely compromise on is the ability to change the default playbooks. If I can't change the playbook, it limits which teams I would choose. FYI, the abortion debate doesn't center around choice or life, it centers around whether a fetus is a human being deserving of the same rights as a child that is already born. James Britton
I am needing help mastering the lurch vs. the CPU. I always seem to just miss the QB. Is it one step down, then dive??
