    Notes:
You will find the .ips patches in an attached zip file. You can edit the Vanilla version with TSB Tool. If you want to edit the Hardtype version you are ok to do so with TSB Tool with the exception of the NFC West teams. Editing the NFC West teams will require you to download and edit the Vanilla version, then re-apply the .ips patches and set commands. Editing the NFC West teams can cause the game not to run correctly. Make sure to backup your files before making any changes!

  2. The Age of Vinny and the End of History: NFL '88, HOT WAR

    '88, Hot War
A continuation of the Age of Vinny narrative and hacks. The Narrative is available in the read-me.

Labor issues have been resolved partially through a "Plan B" system in the face of pressure from a reconstituted USFL and, potentially, a new league in the Soviet Union as their "reconstruction" barrels down on U.S. Hegemony. The Cardinals have survived a relocation bid to Phoenix, after St. Louis' revolutionary council exerts control, making the club a public utility, possibly tying them to the plastic and concrete surface of Busch Stadium forever. Dan Fouts and Walter Payton, through new medical techniques, come out of brief retirements to chase that ring with San Fran and Chicago. Can the Browns three-peat? Can Vinny and Eric Dickerson breakthrough? Can Doug Williams deliver for the Raiders? Neil Lomax for Big Red?

Hacks are built on roms in 1970-1994 pack and USFL-WAFL hack.

  4. Tombor's Tecmo Theatre: '87, The Age of Vinny and the End of History

Continuing from '86, this '87 rom hack is more robust and establishes a larger project narrative, an alternate history I hope to continue.

    '87 Redraft:*

Colts (2-14) Vinny Testaverde Oilers (2-14) Cornelius Bennett Cowboys (3-13) Brian Bosworth Packers (4-12) Alonzo Highsmith Eagles (5-11) Jerome Brown Niners from (Chiefs (5-11) Christian Okoye Patriots (6-10) Bruce Armstrong Bucs (6-10) Greg Lloyd Bills (7-9) Shane Conlan Raiders (7-9) Hardy Nickerson Saints (7-9) Shane Knight Vikings (8-8) Brent Fullwood Seahawks (8-8) Tyrone Braxton Lions (8-8) Jerry Ball Broncos (8-8) Ricky Nattiel Bears (8-8) Steve Beuerlein Chiefs (5-11 from Niners (8-7-1) + Joe Cribbs) Harris Barton Browns (15-1) Rod Woodson Steelers (10-6) Jason Bosa Falcons (10-6) Jim Harbaugh Giants (10-6) Mark Ingram Bengals (10-6) Danny Noonan Oilers (from Rams (10-6) dating back to ’85 Jim Everett trade) Haywood Jeffries Jets (11-5) DJ Dozier Redskins (11-5) Tony Woods Dolphins (12-4) Thomas Everett Cardinals (12-3-1) Tim McDonald Chargers (10-6) Ed Simmons (from Browns + Chip Banks)
    Features:

-Based on 1987 full season hack
-Custom edits following progression of NFL’ 86: Lost USFLers rom season, including hypothetical trades (some based on real “what if?” moves*, others based on experiment),
-1st round redraft based on narrative and other sources (see read me)
-Inclusion of notably absent rookies (Cris Carter, Alonzo Highsmith, Greg Lloyd, Hardy Nickerson, Jim Harbaugh, Haywood Jeffries, Tommie Agee, Jessie Tuggle, and more)
-Restored players cut in favor of replacement players from ‘87 in some cases.
-added more exceptional USFL players (Ernest Anderson, Putt Choate, Chuck Clanton, John Corker, Kiki DeAyala, Greg Fields, Jackie Flowers, Pat Phenix, Mark Keel, Ken Lacy, Bruce Thornton, Marcus Marek, and others) often replacing scabs not on final ‘87 rosters or filling in gaps from first round redraft.
-Back from the dead: Joe Delaney and David Overstreet return to the league after sojourns in the USFL and CFL
    -7 minute quarters
    -Stats after every quarter
    -Wedge formation on kickoffs
-2nd Uniform edits (feel free to provide suggestions):
    1. Orange jersey blue helmets and pants for Bears (sort of look like Broncos but a darker shade)
    2. gold jersey/red pants for Chiefs
    3. Chargers get yellow helmet and gold pants
    4. Yellow helmet and pants, red jerseys for Washington
    5. Carolina blue-ish for Cardinals
    6. Red helmets and black jerseys for Falcons (resembles ‘66 uniforms)
    7. Second uni double-greens, double-purples, and double-blues for Jets, Vikings, and Giants (experiment)
    8. Silver pants/helmets and green jerseys for Eagles (closer approximation to the uni from this era—the pants were the thing).
    9. Light Red/pink helmet and pants, blue jersey 1st for Bills

    Included in this file:
    -’87 Age of Vinny Rom
-Save State for up to Week 15 of ’86 (Rom available on Tecmobowl.org)
-Save State for up to end of regular season of ‘86 (.fcs)
-Save State for very end of '86 season (.fcs)
-Save State for ’87 with “locked”-in schedule (schedule shouldn’t randomize) (.fcs)

*Agee and Lloyd both missed their rookie seasons due to injury, but not in this timeline--they are a little beefed up as their stats are based on '89 and '90, but that should even out in further rom edits (the computer rarely plays Agee anyway, unless Warner gets injured--he's good, but not great either so I have not seen any game imbalance). Collins, Knight, Woods, McDonald, and Braxton do not appear in this rom (Braxton and will appear in '88, filling in for the retired Kenny Easley, McDonald will in for Leonard Smith, and Woods will fill in for Butz, who has been "retired" from this rom in favor of Matt Millen; for details, check out the read me).

**Doug Williams to the Raiders in '87 nearly happened, but Gibbs kiboshed because he felt he needed a veteran back-up for Schroeder; the Dickerson trade happens but under different contexts.

  5. Original 1991 Tecmo Super Bowl with Alternate Schedule! MvG Sports Tecmo Division-NO Bowl

    Hello All!

To reinvigorate playing seasons against the CPU, I have altered the original Tecmo Super Bowl rom to have a completely different regular season schedule for each team!  All teams play all teams that they didn't play in the original iteration of Tecmo Super Bowl, thus there are NO DIVISIONAL GAMES!  4 teams (NE, DEN, PHX, MIN) have a new 16 team schedule.  The rest of the teams in the 5-team divisions play 15 teams that they didn't before, and 1 dupe.  The teams in the 4-team divisions play 14 teams that they didn't play before with 2 dupes.

Below is the actual schedule.  I did the best I could.  All teams play 8 home and 8 away games, but due to the schedule breakdown/circumstance, a few teams do play twice in one week, but for not more than 1 week.  I did kind of do a beta test regarding injuries within the same week, and players that do get injured in game 1 of the week can come back in game 2 of the week.  Please let me know if you have any comments/questions, but most of all ENJOY THIS!  I know I will!

Oh and a big thanks to the creator of the TSB Tool Supreme, which allowed me to complete this task/project

    Trevor

  6. Tombor's Tecmo Theatre: '86, Lost USFLers

This rom is a mild edit of the already fantastic 1986 season already available in the 1970-1994 pack. The '86 season is often forgotten for seeing another influx of standout USFL quarterbacks and stars into the league. This rom hopes to do two things: rectify the loss of a few standout USFL players due to TSB's technical limitations, while also providing a sort of "what if?" if these players saw more action.

Best to play this rom thinking the Dolphins win Super Bowl XX in this timeline (a 34-24 win against the Bears), and that a young, charismatic minor Communist Party official named Vasiliy Morenov has successfully emerged as General Secretary after a power struggle between the old Stalinists still hanging on and more scattershot liberalizers like Gorbachev, who was last seen organizing the new embassy in Benin.

Player stats were sourced from the excellent USFL-WLAF Rom and USFL-NFL Rom. Flutie's stats come from the 1988 season rom. All edits made in TSBTool (.091)

    Player additions/changes (realistic)

Doug Flutie is the starting qb for the Bears--The Rams held Flutie's NFL rights but the Bears would trade for Flutie in October 86 after Jim McMahon's injury. Flutie started four games. He replaces Mike Tomzack here; this rom hypothesizes how would it play out if he was on the team the whole season (I am playing through 86 and they are 5-7).

Chuck Fusina is a backup qb for the Packers--The two USFL champion quarterback was a third-stringer for Packers in 86, making a few appearances. He is a solid quarterback and had a little left in the tank. Vince Ferragamo, after riding on the NFL hog for one good season, has retired to make his sickly sweet white wines.

Reggie Collier is a backup qb for the Cowboys--Collier was one of a few USFL quarterbacks (Walter Lewis, who is included in this rom as well) who displayed the archetypal qualities of recent qbs--he was mobile with a good arm. The Cowboys had selected him in 83 and signed him after the USFL folded with the idea of developing him into a project qb. He made just 4 appearances, including one start. It could be really fun grouping Collier with Walker and Dorsett. Steve Pelluer is erased from history; Collier is a backup to Danny White, who got the Cowboys off to a 6-2 start before suffering a season ending injury. Collier throws like Steve Young.

Marcus Dupree is the #4 back for the Rams--The Rams held Dupree's rights in 1986, even after his devastating knee injury in week 1 of the 85 USFL season. Dupree here is more in his prime, and is slotted into the #4 slot. He is a really good kick returner and makes a formidable backfield with Dickerson.

    Player Changes/Edits (Speculative)

Walter Lewis is the backup qb for the Falcons--Walter Lewis never played in the NFL after his USFL career with the Showboats (he spent '86 as a backup with Montreal of the CFL), but he was a more successful Collier in the Small Potato league and pretty fun. He is also wreckless--in a game against the Niners, I threw for 278 yards, 3 tds, but I also was intercepted by Ronnie Lott 5 times. He kind of plays like Steve Young but he seems faster than either of them. I put him on the Falcons due to geographic proximity (he played at Alabama in college) and their three receiver setup. Gerald Riggs was also a great multi-tooled running back that could gel with him. Backs up David Archer.

Brian Sipe is the backup qb for the Raiders--Frustrated by Marc Wilson's erratic play, and with Plunket injured in a week 4 loss to the Chargers, Davis brings in the 37 year old former NFL MVP and Generals and Bulls star; Sipe never suffers the career-ending injury that knocked him out of the 85 USFL season.  The Raiders sort of meander through 86, with Davis eyeing a possible move up the draft to get Vinny Testeverde. That he passed on Marino  in 83 still haunts him.

    One non-USFL themed edit:

Hugh Green is on the active roster of the 86 Dolphins--The Dolphin's best Linebracker through the late 80s and early 90s suffered a knee injury in week 2 of the 86 season (a 51-45 OT loss to the Jets). Because of his early move to the IR, the original 86 season rom does not include him. Green is restored with his excellent 85 stats. Got to defend that ring.

    ROM Edits:

I have added two edits via the Forum and TSBTool here:

*7 minute quarters. This seems to alleviate, at least a little, the ramped-up difficulty that occurs late in the season and into the playoffs.

    *Stat Screen after every quarter.

As a life-long Cleveland Browns fan, 86 is a bittersweet season as well; I was 5 when it happened, so I don't have a great memory of it, but I have been constantly reminded of The Drive. I highly recommend watching the Divisional Playoff against the Jets. It is on YouTube and it is fun as hell.

[The creative elements in here--the Dolphins winning the SB in 85--are based on my play through of the 85 season with the two Rom Edits. I have lost the file, but if I recover it I will try to include it in an update. Some interesting details from memory that informed this hack:

-The Bears finish 14-2, with both losses by a total margin of 2 points--a 20-19 loss to the Lions in Week 10 and a 22-21 loss to the Falcons in Week 13.

-The Falcons and Jets both miss the playoffs due to massive late season meltdowns. Both clubs are 9-5 headed into Week 15, and both clubs would lose their final two games. The Jets are hammered by the two best defenses in the league: the lost to the Bears 19-7 in Week 15 and the Browns 34-14.

The Falcons losses are more painful as both come in overtime: 30-27 to the Vikings in Week 15, 27-24 to the 2-14 Saints in Week 16.

-The Chargers, Patriots, and Vikings all win their final 4 games to clinch spots on Week 16, each finishing 9-7, 9-7, and 10-6 respectively.

-The Niners have the worse season ever for a reigning champ, going 5-10-1.

-The Chargers score 513 points, the most ever for an NFL team up to this period.

-Gerald Riggs breaks Eric Dickerson's rushing record, finishing with 2,325 yds and 26 TDs.

-Riggs also sets the single game rushing yard record, with 24 carries for 318 yds against the Niners.

-Mike Quick becomes the first 2,000 yd receiver in NFL history with 2,042. He also catches 18 touchdowns.

-Miami's Marks Brothers combine for over 3,000 yds receiving. Duper finishes with 1,519 yds; Clayton 1,483

-Dan Fouts breaks Marino's record for most TD passes in a season with 52.

-Brian Brennan, in Week 12 against the Bengals, becomes the first player in NFL history to return two kickoffs for touchdowns in a game. They are the only touchdowns Cleveland scores in a 19-17 win. This victory captures the division.

    -Division winner records:
    Miami (AFC East) 11-5
    Cleveland (AFC Central) 14-2
    Seattle (AFC West) 12-4
Wild Card: Chargers (9-7), Patriots (9-7)

St. Louis (NFC East, I have an affinity) 12-4
    Chicago (NFC Central) 14-2
    Los Angeles (NFC West) 10-6
Wild Card: Minnesota (10-6), New York (9-7)

Wild Card games: San Diego 42, New England 21
                                    New York 20, Minnesota 0
Divisional Playoff: Miami 51, Seattle 41 (with Curt Warner out, Randall Morris rushes for 293 yds and 3 tds in the loss)
                                     Cleveland 28, San Diego 26
St. Louis 27, Los Angeles 23 (Dickerson rushes for 252 yds and 2 tds, this game is called "The Fumble," as Dickerson fumbled the go ahead TD on the 2 yard line)
Chicago 30, New York 24 OT (Bears lose Payton for the season early; Phil Simms is stripped in OT by Dan Hampton, Richard Dent recovers and returns fumble for winner)

Championship Games: Miami 31, Cleveland 21 (Browns turnover ball 5 times, Kosar throws 4 picks)
                                              Chicago 35, St. Louis 24

Super Bowl XX: Miami 34, Chicago 24

  8. 1991 Roster Update

This is my 1991 roster update to the classic game with no hacks. Personnel and ratings for each team have been changed to reflect the actual '91-92 season. A few playbooks were tweaked here and there to best fit the new rosters. You will see a lot of familiar faces and also some new ones. There is no BO. Sorry, I had to keep it real here and omit the greatest 8-bit athlete of all time due to his retirement after the '90 season. Also, No Joe. He didn't play a down of the '91 season due to injury. Plenty of hidden gems can be found on various benches, however. There are no two-way players. Sorry, but I didn't want to waist the roster spot for a return man. This is a balanced game with a lot more parity than the original roster. Enjoy, please let me know what you think.

  11. TSB 2002 Old School

The 2002 NFL season was one of my favorite seasons ever. It was the first year the league went to 32 teams, and it was the last time the Raiders made it to the Super Bowl. They did lose, but it was against the Bucs and their old coach, now current coach, Jon Gruden. The Bucs had one of the best defenses ever, with Simeon Rice, Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks, and Ronde Barber. Rich Gannon had the best season of his career, and the Raiders also had Jerry Rice and Rod Woodson. In their first year in the league, Houston Texans QB David Carr got sacked an NFL record 72 times on the way to a 4-12 season. That is reflected in the rom with the worst OL in the game. They did manage to beat the Cowboys in their first game, who finished with a 5-11 record. The Jets had a magical year, led by Chad Pennington (playing with a 25ps/81pc QB is so much fun), Curtis Martin, and Laveranues Coles. They beat the Pats and Packers in weeks 16 and 17 to clinch the division, and knocked the Pats out of the playoffs. It was the only year in his entire career as a starter that Tom Brady missed the playoffs, and the Pats had won the Super Bowl the year before in Brady's first year. The Jets went on to crush Peyton Manning and the Colts in the playoffs 41-0! They lost their next playoff game to the Raiders 30-10. That entire division was good, as the Jets, Pats, and Dolphins all finished 9-7, while the Bills ended 8-8. The Giants also made the playoffs as a 10-6 wildcard behind Tiki Barber and a sick defense led by Michael Strahan. There was serious talk in NY about the possibility of a Jets-Giants Super Bowl. This might have been the closest we've come to that. The Giants lost their first playoff game to the 49ers, who would then lose to the Bucs.

Something else happened in 2002 that had a big impact on everyone reading this. Matt Knobbe created the Tecmo Repository.

About the rom: I call this an old school rom, because it is cxrom's original 32-team rom with no graphics or playbook changes. Cxrom put in the ability to change plays in the middle of a game, and an options menu that lets you change the time. The weather option is a placeholder and non-functional. It was implemented in later roms, but I didn't particularly want it. The NFC West bug fixes are in, the TE sim fix is in, the player 2 condition fix is in, and that's about it. It's Tecmo, just 32 teams. Player attributes are largely based on the original, except FBs and returners in a RB slot have 44rs and 50hp. The only FBs with more than 50hp had a significant amount of rushing yards. Returners in a WR slot with 13hp have 50rs. I did the sim ratings on a painstaking team by team, player by player basis. Team and individual stats should usually end up pretty close to how they actually were at the end of the season. The only thing is Marvin Harrison and Randy Moss typically end up with over 2000 receiving yards, and receiver yards are a little higher than reality in general. QB Rating and Passing TDs are also a little high, but RB yards are pretty spot on. The Saints seem to go deep in the playoffs a lot, probably benefiting from the 3-WR set. Oh, and that AFC East is always up for grabs. You try making 1 of 3 9-7 teams always make the playoffs while the other 2 don't. That's just not happening.

I'm going to have a lot of fun playing this, and I hope you do, too.

The game is now available and so is the 7th annual "Preview Magazine" to the game. Madden ratings were used once again to rate every player. Here's a list of hacks and hack authors used to help create this:

-- automated and accurate sim ratings (Tecmonster)

If you decide to make ANY edits to this game within TSBToolSupreme, then you'll very likely need to repair the rom afterwards because that program will break part of the moving grapple code and the game will glitch. So, here's what you do:
I used the Translhextion hex editor to create a file, named x3ffc0, and have included that with the rom here.  I recommend saving this file to your Desktop. How you apply this file: open up your rom in Translhextion and jump to offset x3ffc0 (by clicking Offset > Jump To > then enter x3ffc0 in the field). Highlight (by dragging on) that byte + the next 48 bytes (49 bytes total), then:
    1) go to Selection and click "Fill Selection with..."
    2) in the pop-up box, select "File" from the dropdown box after "Fill selection with"
    3) click "Browse" and find your file (preferably on your Desktop) and select it
    4) click "OK"

  16. Tecmonster's Tecmo Super Bowl 2019 now available

This game, Tecmonster’s Tecmo Super Bowl 2019, is based on the original Tecmo Super Bowl that we all know and love, but has been hacked and edited to a revolutionary extent!  To create the player ratings, I feed their Madden ratings into a spreadsheet of my own formulas that then spits out Tecmo-compatible ratings.  You might also notice that I’m actually using the “Running Power” attribute as a dynamic category for offensive players instead of just assigning every player a 69 rating, as in the original game (which was, in my opinion, simply an oversight by the creators, or maybe just a shortcut to finish the game faster).  I also changed its name to “Acceleration” because that’s its real function.  Here’s an index of the hacks used to create this game, in no particular order, with tecmobowl.org authors in parenthesis:
-- 32-team expansion rom (cx_rom, Maynard, Knobbe, others)
    -- helmets, field colors (keithisgood)
-- COM looks for open receivers (jstout)
-- COM Ultra Logic to play better defense (jstout)
-- moving & dynamic grapples (bruddog)
-- MAN vs. MAN popcorning (jstout)
-- sort receiving leaders by yards (jstout)
-- more accurate attribute labels, like “Acceleration” (Tecmonster)
-- kicking arrow speed & range to make FG’s easier (Tecmonster)
-- COM minimum kickoff distance to 8yl, max to -3yl (bruddog)
-- increase kickoff ball speed (maynard, bodom)
-- increase shotgun snap speed (jstout)
-- tougher to block FG’s by adding personal protectors (Tecmonster)
-- increase QB fumble rate (jstout)
-- decrease diving animation time slightly (xplozv)
-- decrease handoff animation time (xplozv)
-- COM “juice” edited (by Tecmonster)
-- PA affects “catchability/interceptability” of the pass (jstout)
-- set kick returner farther back (bodom)
-- Ball Control ratios edited so BC means more (by Tecmonster)
-- static schedules from week to week (bruddog)
-- Quickness changed to Coverage (jstout)
-- kick returners use their actual attributes (konforce, jstout)
-- stats screen at halftime (xplozv)
    -- corrected playoff bracket (pambazos)
-- MAN-controlled QB rollouts on the rollout plays (Tecmonster)
-- LB’s moved farther back from line of scrimmage (Tecmonster)
-- Run & Shoot QB’s almost never scramble (Tecmonster)
-- “heavy pass” teams don’t pass quite as much (Tecmonster)
    -- REVISED PLAYBOOKS (I have drastically changed and re-organized the playbooks to make them more useful, logical, balanced, and modern), including: (a) new plays, like the Shotgun Shovel, Shotgun Zone Read RB R, Shotgun Zone Read QB L (with QB HP boost), Shotgun RB Draw, Shotgun Zone Read Red Sea (pass), Shotgun Zone Read X Fly (pass), Shotgun Zone Read RB Flat (pass), Pro Set Quick Pitch L, Pro Set Quick Pitch R, Pro Set Zone Pitch R, 1back Offtackle R, 1back Pitch R, 1back Pitch L, Run and Shoot Fire (pass), Shotgun XZ Cross, 1back Flare C, Pro Z Deep Post; (b) improved blocking schemes for many run plays; (c) some receiving routes for existing plays improved; (d) some receiving routes added, like for Oneback Flare A;
-- COM avoids sacks much better + faster COM rollouts (Tecmonster)
    -- shorter onside kicks (xplozv)
-- COM RB reacts to the defense sooner after handoff (Tecmonster)
-- smarter OL pass blocking (xplozv)
-- receiver jump/dive based on REC rating (xplozv)
-- defender jump/dive based on COV rating (xplozv)
-- COM minimum punt distance @ 50% bar (bruddog)
-- Avoid Pass Block ratios edited so APB means more (Tecmonster)
-- team rosters, jersey #’s, faces (Tecmonster)
    -- city name changes (bruddog)
-- automated and accurate sim ratings (Tecmonster)
Special thanks to bruddog, buck, and pambazos (zone read plays) for helping me understand play-making, and to tecmobowl.org.

    5) Go to "File" and save your rom.
This should fix the problem. Every time you edit your rom with TSBToolSupreme though, you're going to have to follow these steps directly afterwards.

I'm planning to release the annual magazine that typically accompanies this game by Sunday night.

    Enjoy!

  17. NFL '58

60 years ago the NFL Season that would end with the "Greatest Game Ever Played" began.

    What you get:
2 versions (Original and Fully Juiced)
The 12 NFL Teams from 1958.
All modeled and properly matched to an Original TSB Team.
Baltimore Colts = SF (Unitas = Montana, Lenny Moore = Jerry Rice)
New York Giants = NYG (Sam Huff = LT (but moved to ILB)
Cleveland Browns = RAI (Jim Brown = Bo Jackson)
    Los Angeles Rams = RAM
    Chicago Bears = CHI
    Pittsburgh Steelers = MIN
    Washington Redskins = NO
    San Francisco 49ers = NO
    Chicago Cardinals = JETS
    Detroit Lions = JETS
    Philadelphia Eagles = GB
Green Bay Packers = GB (Lombardi arrives in 1959, but many of the pieces of the dynasty are already in place)
The correct 12 game 1958 schedule with correct dates. (Including Saturdays and Thanksgiving)
An Old Fashioned Grass Field free from any distractions, logos, or colors.
    No Overtime.
No Large Helmets (I don't get them or know how to move them so I just blanked them out)
1991 Mini Helmets in proper locations.
Accurate Rosters with numbers and skin color.
    Accurate Pro Bowl Rosters.
Plus truly Original Game Play, as I have added "ZERO Gameplay Hacks"
We love this game because they got it right, even with the minor imperfections.

    What you don't get:
    Accurate Divisions.
In 1958 the NFL had 2 six team divisions East and West.
I couldn't do that so I made 3 four team divisions.
Below I list my Divisions followed by the actual 1958 the Team played in.
    EAST                               CENTRAL                       WEST
Cleveland East          Chicago Bears West    Baltimore  West
New York East           Detroit West                   Chicago Cardinals East
Philly East                    Green Bay West            Los Angeles West
Washington East      Pittsburgh East            San Francisco West

Accurate Playoffs in 1958 the NFL Post season consisted of one Championship Game of the East Champion vs the West Champion.
I had to go with 4 teams.  The 3 Division Champs and a Wild Card.
If you win the "NFL Championship"  The Final Game will be the "Tecmo Bowl" vs a 1991 TSB Team.

  19. SBlueman's Tecmo Super Bowl 2017

Download and enjoy my first official release since 2006! Special thanks to everyone who has contributed in keeping this community of Tecmo fans together. The progress that has been made since I last released an edit is amazing. This release would not have been possible if it wasn't for the countless hours and sweat equity that has been put into finding new and amazing ways to alter the best sports video game ever. This site is a treasure trove of notes, codes, and information. Hopefully it might get people who haven't tried editing to give it a shot because they would want to tweak something. We can always use different opinions, tastes and ideas on improving the game around here. Feel free to edit this game if you want, I intentionally went out of my way to make sure all the hacks that were installed would not interfere with people being able to edit it with TSBTool.

  23. Coach Mac's 1975 TSB X

In Super Bowl X The Steelers beat the Cowboys 21-17 but all of that is about to change, as you download and play my new 1975 NES TSB rom.
I chose 1975 because it was right in the Middle of the Decade.
    Pre-Expansion
    8 team Playoff
AND it was the ultimate Super Bowl
America's Team vs The Team of the 70's.
Doomsday, Too Tall, Mean Joe, The Steel Curtain, Roger the Dodger, Phyllis George, The Hail Mary is born, Conrad Dobler, Jimmy the Greek, Howard Cosell, MNF was a huge Event!, Kenny the Snake, Purple People Eaters

I have put a ton of time and effort into this and will give a good account of the changes.

Skill Position Player Ratings - based on 1975 performance - sliding scale true to the original rom.
QB's PC = QBR, PS = Reputation, MS = Rush Yds, APB = Comp. %.  Ken Anderson, Fran Tarkenton, and Bert Jones are Top 3 QB's.
RB's MS = Yards, Rec = # of receptions, BC = Fumble %, HP = Reputation (and HP cost you speed)
    WR's and TE's MS = Yards, Rec. = # of receptions., BC = Fumble %.
1000 yards gets you a 56 MS as RB or REC.  OJ Simpson with over 1800 yards is the only player rated higher with 63 MS.
Each team has a dedicated return man (usually WR#4) with MS based on Return yards.

    24 out of 26 teams ran a 4-3 in 1975.
I have seen people put 1 DL at LB to adjust for this, but that bugs me.
I know the Original rom did it but that bugged me also.
So just used 3 DL for each team and put a back up LB in as a starter so you only have DT's at NT and DE's at DE and OLB's at OLB and MLB's at ILB, and Back up's at ILB.
So while I had to sit Ernie Holmes for the Steelers, Loren Toews gets to start.  Hollywood Henderson also benefits and gets to start a couple years early for Dallas.

O Lines, D-Lines, LB's and DB's - rated as groups by team - also very true to the feel of the orginal rom
O Lines based on Scoring Offense, using the Original roms OL ratings.
Plus the 5 Consensus All Pros get the Top 5 ratings.
D-Lines based on Rushing D.  4 Consensus All Pros get the Top 4 ratings.
LB's based on Scoring D. 3 Consensus All Pros get the Top 3 ratings
DB's based on Passing D.  4 Consensus All Pros get the Top 4 ratings
Punters rated by Average and Kicks blocked.
Kickers rated by # of FG's made and FG %.
Returners rated by AVG. and proper speed given to RT and SS.

    Uniforms edited.
Almost every game will have 1 team in a White Jersey which is cool and realistic.
Dallas wears white 24 out of 25 opponents just like they did in the 70's.

    Helmets small and large edited
Not sure who did this but I got a 1972 rom years ago and loved the Helmets.
Denny?  Elway?  Anyway they did a great job.

Individual sim used TSB Tool to set.
Team sim rating edited based on 1975 Offense and Defense.
    #1 = F, #2 = E,  #16 = 1, 17-26 = 0
I have simmed 3 seasons and W-L results have been very accurate to 1975
    Buffalo = f 0, #1 offense and one of the worst d's.
Offensive preferences accurately reflect 1975 Run/Pass ratios. >60% Run = Heavy Run, 50-59% Run = Balanced Run, <50% Run = Balanced Pass

    Default Offensive plays.
Almost Exclusively 2 Backs, with a little Shotgun, and some Wing Formations.

    Field Changes

Endzones are a solid color and free from any writing, so you can see your players better.
    Midfield logo darker (looks better)

    Divisions and Conferences are accurate.
Accurate 1975 Schedule and dates included.
Thanksgiving Day Games and Last 2 Weeks Saturday Games provide for 17 "weeks"
TB helmet is changed to NFC Pro Bowl and I have put the accurate NFC Pro Bowl team here.
SEA helmet is changed to AFC Pro Bowl and I have put the accurate AFC Pro Bowl team here.
You can also play the Select the Pro Bowl and you will get the exact same roster.

    The Playoffs.

The teams are in correct divisions and conferences.
I read a ton about editing playoffs but the one era I could not find was this one 3 Division Champs and 1 Wild Card in each Conference. (8 Teams)
    SO,
I had to settle for the playoff format of 3 Division Champs and 2 Wild Cards (10 Teams) that began in 1978

    In this rom:
The Great Teams will be really GREAT!
    Good Teams will be average.
Bad Teams will be really BAD!

I hope you enjoy this rom. Test it out and let me know what you think of
    A. The Gameplay
    B. The Ratings
    C. The Fun Factor
    I appreciate it in advance.
Also please report any mistakes in spelling, skin color, or number.

Also being released by CoachMac is nothing else.
It is a ton of work to do an extensive rom and I just don't think I am up to doing the whole era.
Tip of the Cap to Carther and others who have done whole eras.
Also thanks to guys who have posted all the valuable editing info on this site, plus making TSB Tool.

  25. Tecmonster's Tecmo Super Bowl 2017

The game is attached and so is the third annual "Preview Magazine" to the game. Madden ratings were used once again to rate every player. Here's a list of hacks and hack authors used to help create this:

-- 32-team expansion rom (cx_rom, Maynard, Knobbe, others)

    -- helmets, field colors (keithisgood)

-- COM looks for open receivers (jstout)

-- COM Ultra Logic to play better defense (jstout)

-- moving & dynamic grapples (bruddog)

-- MAN vs. MAN popcorning (jstout)

-- sort receiving leaders by yards (jstout)

-- more accurate attribute labels, like “Acceleration” (Tecmonster)

-- kicking arrow speed & range to make FG’s easier (Tecmonster)

-- COM minimum kickoff distance (bruddog)

-- increase kickoff ball speed (maynard, bodom)

-- increase shotgun snap speed (jstout)

-- tougher to block FG’s by adding personal protectors (Tecmonster)

-- increase QB fumble rate (jstout)

-- decrease diving animation time slightly (xplozv)

-- decrease handoff animation time (xplozv)

-- COM “juice” edited (by Tecmonster)

-- PA affects “catchability/interceptability” of the pass (jstout)

-- set kick returner farther back (bodom)

-- Ball Control ratios edited so BC means more (by Tecmonster)

-- static schedules from week to week (bruddog)

-- Quickness changed to Coverage (jstout)

-- kick returners use their actual attributes (konforce, jstout)

-- stats screen at halftime (xplozv)

    -- corrected playoff bracket (pambazos)

-- MAN-controlled QB rollouts on the rollout plays (Tecmonster)

-- LB’s moved farther back from line of scrimmage (Tecmonster)

-- Run & Shoot QB’s almost never scramble (Tecmonster)

-- “heavy pass” teams don’t pass quite as much (Tecmonster)

    -- PLAYBOOKS (I have drastically changed and re-organized the playbooks to make them more useful, logical, balanced, and modern), including: (a) new plays, like the Shotgun Shovel, Shotgun Zone Read RB R, Shotgun Zone Read QB L (with QB HP boost), Shotgun RB Draw, Shotgun Zone Read Red Sea (pass), Shotgun Zone Read X Fly (pass), Shotgun Zone Read RB Flat (pass), Pro Set Quick Pitch L, Pro Set Quick Pitch R, Pro Set Zone Pitch R, 1back Offtackle R, 1back Pitch R, 1back Pitch L, Run and Shoot Fire (pass), Shotgun XZ Cross, 1back Flare C, Pro Z Deep Post; (b) improved blocking schemes for many run plays; (c) some receiving routes for existing plays improved; (d) some receiving routes added, like for Oneback Flare A;

-- COM avoids sacks much better + faster COM rollouts (Tecmonster)

    -- shorter onside kicks (xplozv)

-- COM RB reacts to the defense sooner after handoff (Tecmonster)

-- smarter OL pass blocking (xplozv)

-- receiver jump/dive based on REC rating (xplozv)

-- defender jump/dive based on COV rating (xplozv)

-- team rosters, jersey #’s, faces (Tecmonster)

    NEW FOR 2017 . . .

-- minimum COM punts @ 50% meter (bruddog)

-- QB’s Avoid Pass Block rating is more important (low APB QB’s are bad news, notable increase in passes blocked)

-- moving grapples turbocharged (i.e. bruddog’s version sped up)

-- minor player ratings formula and playbook tweaks

If you do decide to make ANY edits to this game within TSBToolSupreme, then you'll very likely need to repair the rom afterwards because that program will break part of the moving grapple code and the game will glitch. So, here's what you do:

I used the Translhextion hex editor to create a zip file, named x3ffc0, and have included that with the rom here.  I recommend opening this zip file and placing the one and only file that is inside it, also called x3ffc0, on your Desktop. How you apply this file: open up your rom in Translhextion and jump to offset x3ffc0 (by clicking Offset > Jump To).

    5) Go to "File" and save your rom.

This should fix the problem. Every time you edit your rom with TSBToolSupreme though, you're going to have to follow these steps directly afterwards.

Files available: (1) Tecmonster's Tecmo Super Bowl 2017 (2) Preview Magazine (3) Team Playbooks (4) x3ffc0 repair file.

If you use this rom as a basis for a fantasy league like I do and you want the Draft Package, which lists players by salary, you can download it from the front page of our league’s website: renotecmoleague.weebly.com.
