  3. Tecmonster's TSB 2016 rom

Finally, the work is finished and the fun begins.  The game is attached and so is the second annual "Preview Magazine" to the game.  Madden ratings were used once again to rate every player.  Here's a list of hacks and hack authors used to help create this:

-- 32-team expansion rom (cx_rom, Maynard, Knobbe, others)

    -- helmets, field colors (keithisgood)

-- COM looks for open receivers (jstout)

-- COM Ultra Logic to play better defense (jstout)

-- moving & dynamic grapples (bruddog)

-- MAN vs. MAN popcorning (jstout)

-- sort receiving leaders by yards (jstout)

-- more accurate attribute labels, like “Acceleration” (Tecmonster)

-- kicking arrow speed & range to make FG’s easier (Tecmonster)

-- COM minimum kickoff distance (bruddog)

-- increase kickoff ball speed (maynard, bodom)

-- increase shotgun snap speed (jstout)

-- tougher to block FG’s by adding personal protectors (Tecmonster)

-- increase QB fumble rate (jstout)

-- decrease diving animation time slightly (xplozv)

-- decrease handoff animation time (xplozv)

-- COM “juice” edited (by Tecmonster)

-- PA affects “catchability/interceptability” of the pass (jstout)

-- set kick returner farther back (bodom)

-- Ball Control ratios edited so BC means more (by Tecmonster)

-- static schedules from week to week (bruddog)

-- Quickness changed to Coverage (jstout)

-- kick returners use their actual attributes (konforce, jstout)

-- stats screen at halftime (xplozv)

    -- corrected playoff bracket (pambazos)

-- MAN-controlled QB rollouts on the rollout plays (Tecmonster)

-- LB’s moved farther back from line of scrimmage (Tecmonster)

-- Run & Shoot QB’s almost never scramble (Tecmonster)

-- “heavy pass” teams don’t pass quite as much (Tecmonster)

    -- PLAYBOOKS (I have drastically changed and re-organized the playbooks to make them more useful, logical, balanced, and modern), including: (a) new plays, like the Shotgun Shovel, Shotgun Zone Read RB R, Shotgun Zone Read QB L (with QB HP boost), Shotgun RB Draw, Shotgun Zone Read Red Sea (pass), Shotgun Zone Read X Fly (pass), Shotgun Zone Read RB Flat (pass), Pro Set Quick Pitch L, Pro Set Quick Pitch R, Pro Set Zone Pitch R, 1back Offtackle R, 1back Pitch R, 1back Pitch L, Run and Shoot Fire (pass), Shotgun XZ Cross, 1back Flare C, Pro Z Deep Post; ( improved blocking schemes for many run plays; © some receiving routes for existing plays improved; (d) some receiving routes added, like for Oneback Flare A;

-- COM avoids sacks much better + faster COM rollouts (Tecmonster)

    -- shorter onside kicks (xplozv)

-- COM RB reacts to the defense sooner after handoff (Tecmonster)

-- smarter OL pass blocking (xplozv)

-- receiver jump/dive based on REC rating (xplozv)

-- defender jump/dive based on COV rating (xplozv)

-- team rosters, jersey #’s, faces (qbvikings, Tecmonster)

In my opinion, the two coolest plays new to the game this season are the Shotgun Shovel (run slot 1) and the Shotgun Zone Read RB Flat pass (pass slot 4).  The Titans and 49ers have been assigned a full-time Shotgun playbook and they both utilize the Shotgun Shovel so see how your D does against it.

Some of you won't like the fact that I included some out-for-season injured players in the game -- specifically, Kelvin Benjamin, Jordy Nelson, and Orlando Scandrick.  My general rule for injured players is that if there's a massive drop-off in talent from the injured starter to his back-up -- and I define "massive" as a 10+ point difference in their Overall rating in Madden -- then I keep the injured player on the roster.  Otherwise, I have tried to keep the rosters as accurate as possible.  If you don't like having those three guys in the game, then you can remove them in TSBToolSupreme and add in the following players:

Panthers: WR Jerricho Cotchery #82, ratings: 38-38-38-25-56-50 (recommend assigning to WR4 slot)

Packers: WR Jeff Janis #83, ratings: 31-25-63-13-50-44 (recommend assigning to WR4 slot)

Cowboys: CB Morris Claiborne #24, ratings: 56-25-63-19-44-63

On that note, if you do decide to make ANY edits to this game within TSBToolSupreme, then you'll also need to repair the rom afterwards because TSBTool will break part of the moving grapple code and the game will glitch.  So, here's what you do:

I used the Translhextion hex editor to create a zip file, named x3ffc0, and have included that with the rom here.  I recommend opening this zip file and placing the one and only file that is inside it, also called x3ffc0, on your Desktop.  How you apply this file: open up your rom in Translhextion and jump to offset x3ffc0 (by clicking Offset > Jump To).  Highlight (by dragging on) that byte + the next 48 bytes (49 bytes total), then:

    1) go to Selection and click "Fill Selection with..."

    2) in the pop-up box, select "File" from the dropdown box after "Fill selection with"

    3) click "Browse" and find your file (preferably on your Desktop) and select it

    4) click "OK"

    5) Go "File" and save your rom.

This should fix the problem.  Every time you edit your rom with TSBToolSupreme though, you're going to have to follow these steps directly afterwards.

Files available: (1) Tecmonster's TSB 2016 game rom (2) Preview Magazine (3) Fantasy Appendix (4) Team Playbooks.  I was going to upload the x3ffc0 repair file, but the site won't let me upload zip files right now, so maybe later.

Have fun, hope you like it . . .

  5. Tecmo Intra (13 game schedule, AFC v. AFC, NFC v. NFC, no intermingling) presented by MvG Sports!

    Hello all!

I've output another schedule hack of the original TSB rom.  All AFC teams play only all AFC teams, and all NFC teams play only all NFC teams, to better determine the titans of each conference.  This is more of a pre-1996 MLB theme to the Tecmo Super Bowl game.  I've wanted to make this for a while, and only thought about how easy it would be to hack yesterday, thus I've put it out 24 hours later.  Enjoy!

  7. Coach Mac's 1975 TSB X

In Super Bowl X The Steelers beat the Cowboys 21-17 but all of that is about to change, as you download and play my new 1975 NES TSB rom.
I chose 1975 because it was right in the Middle of the Decade.
    Pre-Expansion
    8 team Playoff
AND it was the ultimate Super Bowl
America's Team vs The Team of the 70's.
Doomsday, Too Tall, Mean Joe, The Steel Curtain, Roger the Dodger, Phyllis George, The Hail Mary is born, Conrad Dobler, Jimmy the Greek, Howard Cosell, MNF was a huge Event!, Kenny the Snake, Purple People Eaters

I have put a ton of time and effort into this and will give a good account of the changes.

Skill Position Player Ratings - based on 1975 performance - sliding scale true to the original rom.
QB's PC = QBR, PS = Reputation, MS = Rush Yds, APB = Comp. %.  Ken Anderson, Fran Tarkenton, and Bert Jones are Top 3 QB's.
RB's MS = Yards, Rec = # of receptions, BC = Fumble %, HP = Reputation (and HP cost you speed)
    WR's and TE's MS = Yards, Rec. = # of receptions., BC = Fumble %.
1000 yards gets you a 56 MS as RB or REC.  OJ Simpson with over 1800 yards is the only player rated higher with 63 MS.
Each team has a dedicated return man (usually WR#4) with MS based on Return yards.

    24 out of 26 teams ran a 4-3 in 1975.
I have seen people put 1 DL at LB to adjust for this, but that bugs me.
I know the Original rom did it but that bugged me also.
So just used 3 DL for each team and put a back up LB in as a starter so you only have DT's at NT and DE's at DE and OLB's at OLB and MLB's at ILB, and Back up's at ILB.
So while I had to sit Ernie Holmes for the Steelers, Loren Toews gets to start.  Hollywood Henderson also benefits and gets to start a couple years early for Dallas.

O Lines, D-Lines, LB's and DB's - rated as groups by team - also very true to the feel of the orginal rom
O Lines based on Scoring Offense, using the Original roms OL ratings.
Plus the 5 Consensus All Pros get the Top 5 ratings.
D-Lines based on Rushing D.  4 Consensus All Pros get the Top 4 ratings.
LB's based on Scoring D. 3 Consensus All Pros get the Top 3 ratings
DB's based on Passing D.  4 Consensus All Pros get the Top 4 ratings
Punters rated by Average and Kicks blocked.
Kickers rated by # of FG's made and FG %.
Returners rated by AVG. and proper speed given to RT and SS.

    Uniforms edited.
Almost every game will have 1 team in a White Jersey which is cool and realistic.
Dallas wears white 24 out of 25 opponents just like they did in the 70's.

    Helmets small and large edited
Not sure who did this but I got a 1972 rom years ago and loved the Helmets.
Denny?  Elway?  Anyway they did a great job.

Individual sim used TSB Tool to set.
Team sim rating edited based on 1975 Offense and Defense.
    #1 = F, #2 = E,  #16 = 1, 17-26 = 0
I have simmed 3 seasons and W-L results have been very accurate to 1975
    Buffalo = f 0, #1 offense and one of the worst d's.
Offensive preferences accurately reflect 1975 Run/Pass ratios. >60% Run = Heavy Run, 50-59% Run = Balanced Run, <50% Run = Balanced Pass

    Default Offensive plays.
Almost Exclusively 2 Backs, with a little Shotgun, and some Wing Formations.

    Field Changes

Endzones are a solid color and free from any writing, so you can see your players better.
    Midfield logo darker (looks better)

    Divisions and Conferences are accurate.
Accurate 1975 Schedule and dates included.
Thanksgiving Day Games and Last 2 Weeks Saturday Games provide for 17 "weeks"
TB helmet is changed to NFC Pro Bowl and I have put the accurate NFC Pro Bowl team here.
SEA helmet is changed to AFC Pro Bowl and I have put the accurate AFC Pro Bowl team here.
You can also play the Select the Pro Bowl and you will get the exact same roster.

    The Playoffs.

The teams are in correct divisions and conferences.
I read a ton about editing playoffs but the one era I could not find was this one 3 Division Champs and 1 Wild Card in each Conference. (8 Teams)
    SO,
I had to settle for the playoff format of 3 Division Champs and 2 Wild Cards (10 Teams) that began in 1978

    In this rom:
The Great Teams will be really GREAT!
    Good Teams will be average.
Bad Teams will be really BAD!

I hope you enjoy this rom. Test it out and let me know what you think of
    A. The Gameplay
    B. The Ratings
    C. The Fun Factor
    I appreciate it in advance.
Also please report any mistakes in spelling, skin color, or number.

Also being released by CoachMac is nothing else.
It is a ton of work to do an extensive rom and I just don't think I am up to doing the whole era.
Tip of the Cap to Carther and others who have done whole eras.
Also thanks to guys who have posted all the valuable editing info on this site, plus making TSB Tool.

I've been working on this USFL project for a while and in my "research"--looking through NFL transactions lists, finding stories on guys–I've also encountered a lot of intriguing "what-if" deals and signings. I thought I'd play around with these and share them here.

All of these hacks are discreet: there is no linked narrative between them.

All of these hacks are juiced, though I give a bit of slack in the early weeks–I used Buck's data, but cranked receptions up in the first 4-5 weeks.

I didn't play around with sim stats too much, but I did modify defense and offense settings and "zeroed" out receivers on rushing tendencies; I tried to tweak with playbooks and color unis. I also tried to stick as close to possible to starting rosters, but in a few cases I shifted guys around based on their final outputs for that season (e.g., Dana Brinson had more receiving yards than Joe Caravello, even though he had started more games for the '87 Chargers). I also tried to adjust KR and PRs.

    Quarters are 7 minutes long.

    The Hacks:

NFL '81: Dean of Pain, or Bruise Brothers 2000: Frugal conman Gene Klein finally sees the long-tail and doesn't trade Fred Dean, though they deal John Jefferson.

NFL '83: Charm City Offensive: Of all the Elway trades, the one that always got me was Dan Fouts and the Chargers 1st rounders to the Colts. All of San Diego's 1st round picks are in Baltimore except for Gary Anderson, who was USFL bound. Bill Ray Smith is an ILB; Gill Byrd is a corner. Chris Hinton protects Steve DeBerg's blindside in Denver. Elway is a scrambler in a 3 receiver setup in San Diego.

Joe Delaney also returns for the Chiefs after saving three children over the summer.

NFL '84: Goodnight Moon: Seattle matches Houston's offer and lands Warren Moon. Dave Kreig is QB2. Oliver Luck is the Oilers' QB1 with John Ransom QB2.

As this is the beginning of '84, Billy Sims is still a Lion and stacked; Curt Warner gives Moon some help, replacing Eric Lane. Miami turns a blind eye to Chuck Muncie's drug test and officially acquires him. He joins a backfield that includes David Overstreet, who survived a car wreck unscathed.

NFL ‘85: USeFL: Three USFL what-ifs: Miami manages to sign Anthony Carter instead of trading him to the Vikings; I set up the ‘85 Fish with a three receiver format, pairing the all-star with the Marks Brothers.

Ex-Breaker Buford Jordan is in Green Bay; the Pack selected him in the 3rd round of the NFL Supplemental draft of USFL and CFL players in '84. He sits ahead of Craig Ellis.

The last one is a longshot: James Lockette was a USFL all-star with the Generals in '85 and–according to contemporary reports–seemed to be the presumptive starter at right end before he suffered a knee injury. He sits on the right side of the line along with fellow ex-USFL alum Lee Williams, replacing Earl Wilson.

DA Bears Caveat: This one has hold-outs Al Harris (replacing the Fridge) and Todd Bell (replacing Dave Duerson) if you really want to get into the weeds. Contains all other edits; Bears are still strong but I dialed back their team sim data (they won the NFC Central everytime I ran sims, mostly finishing 10-6 or 11-5).

NFL '86: BO-a Constrictor: The great what-if trade of '86 with Bo Jackson to San Francisco for Wendell Tyler and Ronnie Lott. Joe Cribbs is also with the Bills, as his actual trade to the Niners occurred at the end of training camp (presumably to make up for the failure to land Bo).

As this is the beginning of the '86 season, Hugh Green of the Dolphins–who went down in week 2–is restored as a starter and Ottis Anderson is still with Big Red, and Tim Lewis is starting corner in Green Bay. Another minor USFL what-if involves New England signing Ricky Sanders as opposed to trading him; Derek Holloway takes his slot in Washington.

NFL '87: Perestrokin': The Browns, Colts, and Rams all swallow their prides and give into the demands of Chip Banks, Cornelius Bennett, and Eric Dickerson; the Raiders successfully trade for Doug Williams and Brian Bosworth's rights, giving up two picks in '88. The hand of providence leads Raymond Berry to understand Rich Gannon and his happy feet, setting him as QB1. Seahawks sign Jaws, whom they talked to in March '87.

These moves cascade through the first 17ish picks; I use Dr. Z and his '87 mock draft projections for SI as a baseline. The Browns take Rod Bernstine to backup Ozzie Newsome, San Diego takes Brent Fullwood, Green Bay selects Reggie Rogers, Jerome Brown goes to Detroit, Shawn Knight to Philly, DJ Dozier to Pittsburgh, Roger Vick to Minnesota, John Bosa to the Jets, Danny Noonan to Miami, John Clay to Dallas, and Mike Junkin to the Raiders; Big Red lands Rod Woodson, Harris Barton protects Bobby Hebert in New Orleans.

Bosa, Junkin, and Knight won't appear in this hack.

I have also purged the scabs, with the exception of Brian McClure, who remains the Bills backup and Rick Massie in Denver, who stuck on the roster for nine games; Reich didn't play at all in '87. Scabs are replaced by players who were on the final roster even though many recorded few stats at all.

NFL '89: The Art of the Modell: The Browns offer to Dallas for Herschel Walker inspired the Vikings deal; this hack restores the opening day Cowboys and Vikings rosters and places Hersch on the Browns; in a recent interview, Jimmy Johnson claimed he was offered a Cleveland player but wouldn't reveal a name, so I placed Eric Metcalf, which seems to make sense. I have also included another proposed trade: Darrell Green to the Broncos for picks and Orson Mobely; Mobely was one of three mentioned in a WaPo article from the time and seemed the likely candidate as he held out of Denver training camp.

In Darrin Nelson's slot, I brought back Husker and future World League champ Dana Brinson. His stats are a little inflates, but they still aren't very good.

NFL '90: Oh Danny Boy: The Marino trade to the Raiders with a stacked club. I couldn't find any info on the nature of the Shula-Davis talks, but it likely included first round draft picks, etc. Scott Seclues and Scott Mitchell are the Miami quarterbacks. Mitchell–praised by Shula for his size–is QB1.

Also included is a three-way deal the Oilers proposed that saw Alonzo Highsmith to the Cowboys, Jesse Solomon to the Giants, and Lawrence Taylor to the Oilers.

These two deals created a cascading effect through other rosters; I used Dr. Z's mock draft for the roster shifts. I gave Miami an extra '90 pick, which they used to select Renaldo Turnbull. Doc had the Saints taking Rodney Hampton, who comes to town. One Taylor-to-Houston scenario included two first rounders; instead of Hampton, the Giants take Eric Green (they would pick ahead of Pittsburgh) and the Steelers take Greg McMurtry. Cedric Jones is in WR3 with New England. Hampton is RB3–replacing Rueben Mays–and Lewis Tillman is RB4 on Broadway.

Alternate '90, A Cajun Cannon in the Hollywood Hills: I encountered another story about Bobby Hebert's contract fight with the Saints and according to his agent, the Raiders offered Marcus Allen and a draft pick. Allen is RB1; back in LA, Bo is RB1, Steve Smith RB2, Vance Mueller, RB4. Steve Walsh is the Saints' QB1 partly because I thought they'd probably still deal for him anyway. This hack also features many of the above trades with the exception of Ronaldo Turnbull.

As Don Majkowski's injury doesn't occur until week 10, the Majik is still here in both versions.

  11. SBlueman's Tecmo Super Bowl 2017

Download and enjoy my first official release since 2006! Special thanks to everyone who has contributed in keeping this community of Tecmo fans together. The progress that has been made since I last released an edit is amazing. This release would not have been possible if it wasn't for the countless hours and sweat equity that has been put into finding new and amazing ways to alter the best sports video game ever. This site is a treasure trove of notes, codes, and information. Hopefully it might get people who haven't tried editing to give it a shot because they would want to tweak something. We can always use different opinions, tastes and ideas on improving the game around here. Feel free to edit this game if you want, I intentionally went out of my way to make sure all the hacks that were installed would not interfere with people being able to edit it with TSBTool.

  13. Tecmonster's Tecmo Super Bowl 2018

The game is now available and so is the 5th annual "Preview Magazine" to the game. Madden ratings were used once again to rate every player. Here's a list of hacks and hack authors used to help create this:
-- 32-team expansion rom (cx_rom, Maynard, Knobbe, others)
    -- helmets, field colors (keithisgood)
-- COM looks for open receivers (jstout)
-- COM Ultra Logic to play better defense (jstout)
-- moving & dynamic grapples (bruddog)
-- MAN vs. MAN popcorning (jstout)
-- sort receiving leaders by yards (jstout)
-- more accurate attribute labels, like “Acceleration” (Tecmonster)
-- kicking arrow speed & range to make FG’s easier (Tecmonster)
-- COM minimum kickoff distance (bruddog)
-- increase kickoff ball speed (maynard, bodom)
-- increase shotgun snap speed (jstout)
-- tougher to block FG’s by adding personal protectors (Tecmonster)
-- increase QB fumble rate (jstout)
-- decrease diving animation time slightly (xplozv)
-- decrease handoff animation time (xplozv)
-- COM “juice” edited (by Tecmonster)
-- PA affects “catchability/interceptability” of the pass (jstout)
-- set kick returner farther back (bodom)
-- Ball Control ratios edited so BC means more (by Tecmonster)
-- static schedules from week to week (bruddog)
-- Quickness changed to Coverage (jstout)
-- kick returners use their actual attributes (konforce, jstout)
-- stats screen at halftime (xplozv)
    -- corrected playoff bracket (pambazos)
-- MAN-controlled QB rollouts on the rollout plays (Tecmonster)
-- LB’s moved farther back from line of scrimmage (Tecmonster)
-- Run & Shoot QB’s almost never scramble (Tecmonster)
-- “heavy pass” teams don’t pass quite as much (Tecmonster)
    -- PLAYBOOKS (I have drastically changed and re-organized the playbooks to make them more useful, logical, balanced, and modern), including: (a) new plays, like the Shotgun Shovel, Shotgun Zone Read RB R, Shotgun Zone Read QB L (with QB HP boost), Shotgun RB Draw, Shotgun Zone Read Red Sea (pass), Shotgun Zone Read X Fly (pass), Shotgun Zone Read RB Flat (pass), Pro Set Quick Pitch L, Pro Set Quick Pitch R, Pro Set Zone Pitch R, 1back Offtackle R, 1back Pitch R, 1back Pitch L, Run and Shoot Fire (pass), Shotgun XZ Cross, 1back Flare C, Pro Z Deep Post; (b) improved blocking schemes for many run plays; (c) some receiving routes for existing plays improved; (d) some receiving routes added, like for Oneback Flare A;
-- COM avoids sacks much better + faster COM rollouts (Tecmonster)
    -- shorter onside kicks (xplozv)
-- COM RB reacts to the defense sooner after handoff (Tecmonster)
-- smarter OL pass blocking (xplozv)
-- receiver jump/dive based on REC rating (xplozv)
-- defender jump/dive based on COV rating (xplozv)
-- team rosters, jersey #’s, faces (Tecmonster)
-- minimum COM punts @ 50% meter (bruddog)
-- QB’s Avoid Pass Block rating is more important (low APB QB’s are bad news, notable increase in passes blocked)
-- moving grapples turbocharged (i.e. bruddog’s version sped up)
    NEW FOR 2018:
-- automated and accurate sim ratings (Tecmonster)
-- minor player ratings formula and playbook tweaks

If you decide to make ANY edits to this game within TSBToolSupreme, then you'll very likely need to repair the rom afterwards because that program will break part of the moving grapple code and the game will glitch. So, here's what you do:
I used the Translhextion hex editor to create a file, named x3ffc0, and have included that with the rom here.  I recommend saving this file to your Desktop. How you apply this file: open up your rom in Translhextion and jump to offset x3ffc0 (by clicking Offset > Jump To > then enter x3ffc0 in the field).
    5) Go to "File" and save your rom.
This should fix the problem. Every time you edit your rom with TSBToolSupreme though, you're going to have to follow these steps directly afterwards.

Files available: (1) Tecmonster's Tecmo Super Bowl 2018 game file (2) Tecomonster’s TSB 2018 Preview Magazine (3) x3ffc0 repair file.

If you use this rom as a basis for a fantasy league like I do and you want the draft package, which lists players by salary, you can download it from the front page of our league’s website: renotecmoleague.weebly.com.

  18. Tecmo Super Bowl 1966-1994 seasons

    VERSION 5.25

Here is a collection of 1966-1994 Tecmo Super Bowl roms. I added the 2002 rom that I completed a while ago, too. It is by no means perfect or final, but I feel it's as good as I like it to be for now. I would like to thank all the guys at Tecmo Bowl.org., because it was all their hard work that allowed me to make these roms in the first place.

In order to edit the players in a way that would reflect the seasons that the roms were designed for, and allow the game to feel and play a lot like the original, I had to assign player ratings that were similar to each and every player in the classic NES Tecmo Super Bowl. In other words, I had assigned the fastest running back (based on most yards from scrimmage, mind you) with the only 75 maximum speed rating, that in my opinion had been erroneously given to Bo Jackson. If anyone deserved a rating like that (I think nobody does, really), it's Thurman Thomas. He had a monster three or four years going, if you were to take into account of what he did on the field and where his team ended up in those years. But I digress.

Although offensive players were a lot easier to rate, I found that offensive linemen and defensive skilled position players weren't and that a lack of info made them almost impossible. I can sort of live with that, though. If it wasn't for the internet, and Pro Football Reference.Com for that matter, it would have been impossible to edit any. I was at least able to edit the all pros for those years, making them the best at their positions.

The basic formula I had to come up with when assigning player ratings had to be based on participation and production, not on popularity. Having said that, I had to be fair to all the players who excelled in seasons where their peers were either absent due to injury or failed to outplay their teammates. Keep in mind that some productive offensive players had to be replaced with Kick and Punt returners - with the lack of space on the roster, I tried to make the depth charts as accurate as I possibly could.

    (List of Edits)

The 1966-69 roms for the most part contain Carther's rosters, as I had no time to edit them myself. I just wanted to edit the rom's menus so that it looks similar to the ones that I had created for the 1970-94 roms, which is to look and feel like the original despite the years that they were based on. There is supposed to be double base posts for the uprights in the 66 rom. Having said that, the upright cutscenes in the 66 rom are not all finished, mainly because I can't find where to edit two of them. Hopefully, I'll find where to do that some day, or even better, someone can tell me where to look for them. The playoff format works like it should in the 66 rom (thanks to Carther), but I couldn't fix the 67 and 69 formats that Carther created, so that the duplicate team playoff games are skipped. Hopefully, someone will post how to do that, as I don't have any inkling how to edit any playoff codes in the game.

1970-1975 roms contain only the 26 teams at that time.

Team rosters and depth charts, as well as pro bowl teams, are all accurately edited to reflect their corresponding seasons.

At least 99% of the players will have the correct name spelling, jersey number, for the most part his face image, as well as skin color.

    Accurate team city names.

Accurate home and away game schedules and their actual dates.

Helmet colors and logo designs, as well as uniforms, were all redone to be based on each year they were used.

All playbooks were edited to somewhat match the team's yearly offense, but some liberties were taken to make use of every play that's available in the game.

    (game rules)

1966-77 roms were juiced a bit. Week 1 games will play like Week 3 if the player's team had been 2-0 in the original TSB. This was done so that a 14-0 win/loss season will play like a 16-0 win/loss season when entering the playoffs.

1966: double fg bases - to give it that vintage look before the slingshot design was made standard.

1966-71: hash marks are spread out (NCAA still uses this method)

1966-1973: 40 yard kick off position - Tecmo logos are located there, too; front field goal posts (imagine them as being transparent when players stand on them, because I do. - field goal kicking length was increased to make up for closer field goal posts;  ball will be placed at the opponent's 20 yard line after any missed field goals; no overtime in man games, as well as auto skipped games. Note: the overtime hack doesn't work as good as I would have liked it to - playoff games will end up in ties, but a random winner is decided by the computer anyway, allowing one of the teams to move on to the next round. This only applies to skipped games - "man" games will still go into overtime during the playoffs. 8 team playoff schedule format. 14 game schedule.

1966: 4 team playoff schedule format.

1967-1969: playoff codes is not as is should be. Check above for reason.

1974-1977: 8 team playoff schedule format. 14 game schedule.

1978-1989: 10 team playoff schedule format.

1982: short season rom contains the 12 team playoff schedule format, as I wasn't able to implement a 16 team playoff format...not sure if it's even possible to do this, anyway.

1994: 30 yard kick off position - Tecmo logos are located there, too. All missed FGs will be placed at the spot of the kick. No two point conversion hack. Maybe one day someone will figure this out and I'll add it later. I hope.

2002: As a bonus, I added this rom. I had created it some years ago, but never bothered to post it on the site.

Well, I hope you enjoy the roms. Cheers.

  21. NFL '58

60 years ago the NFL Season that would end with the "Greatest Game Ever Played" began.

    What you get:
2 versions (Original and Fully Juiced)
The 12 NFL Teams from 1958.
All modeled and properly matched to an Original TSB Team.
Baltimore Colts = SF (Unitas = Montana, Lenny Moore = Jerry Rice)
New York Giants = NYG (Sam Huff = LT (but moved to ILB)
Cleveland Browns = RAI (Jim Brown = Bo Jackson)
    Los Angeles Rams = RAM
    Chicago Bears = CHI
    Pittsburgh Steelers = MIN
    Washington Redskins = NO
    San Francisco 49ers = NO
    Chicago Cardinals = JETS
    Detroit Lions = JETS
    Philadelphia Eagles = GB
Green Bay Packers = GB (Lombardi arrives in 1959, but many of the pieces of the dynasty are already in place)
The correct 12 game 1958 schedule with correct dates. (Including Saturdays and Thanksgiving)
An Old Fashioned Grass Field free from any distractions, logos, or colors.
    No Overtime.
No Large Helmets (I don't get them or know how to move them so I just blanked them out)
1991 Mini Helmets in proper locations.
Accurate Rosters with numbers and skin color.
    Accurate Pro Bowl Rosters.
Plus truly Original Game Play, as I have added "ZERO Gameplay Hacks"
We love this game because they got it right, even with the minor imperfections.

    What you don't get:
    Accurate Divisions.
In 1958 the NFL had 2 six team divisions East and West.
I couldn't do that so I made 3 four team divisions.
Below I list my Divisions followed by the actual 1958 the Team played in.
    EAST                               CENTRAL                       WEST
Cleveland East          Chicago Bears West    Baltimore  West
New York East           Detroit West                   Chicago Cardinals East
Philly East                    Green Bay West            Los Angeles West
Washington East      Pittsburgh East            San Francisco West

Accurate Playoffs in 1958 the NFL Post season consisted of one Championship Game of the East Champion vs the West Champion.
I had to go with 4 teams.  The 3 Division Champs and a Wild Card.
If you win the "NFL Championship"  The Final Game will be the "Tecmo Bowl" vs a 1991 TSB Team.

  23. Tecmonster's Tecmo Super Bowl 2019 now available

This game, Tecmonster’s Tecmo Super Bowl 2019, is based on the original Tecmo Super Bowl that we all know and love, but has been hacked and edited to a revolutionary extent!  To create the player ratings, I feed their Madden ratings into a spreadsheet of my own formulas that then spits out Tecmo-compatible ratings.  You might also notice that I’m actually using the “Running Power” attribute as a dynamic category for offensive players instead of just assigning every player a 69 rating, as in the original game (which was, in my opinion, simply an oversight by the creators, or maybe just a shortcut to finish the game faster).  I also changed its name to “Acceleration” because that’s its real function.  Here’s an index of the hacks used to create this game, in no particular order, with tecmobowl.org authors in parenthesis:
-- 32-team expansion rom (cx_rom, Maynard, Knobbe, others)
    -- helmets, field colors (keithisgood)
-- COM looks for open receivers (jstout)
-- COM Ultra Logic to play better defense (jstout)
-- moving & dynamic grapples (bruddog)
-- MAN vs. MAN popcorning (jstout)
-- sort receiving leaders by yards (jstout)
-- more accurate attribute labels, like “Acceleration” (Tecmonster)
-- kicking arrow speed & range to make FG’s easier (Tecmonster)
-- COM minimum kickoff distance to 8yl, max to -3yl (bruddog)
-- increase kickoff ball speed (maynard, bodom)
-- increase shotgun snap speed (jstout)
-- tougher to block FG’s by adding personal protectors (Tecmonster)
-- increase QB fumble rate (jstout)
-- decrease diving animation time slightly (xplozv)
-- decrease handoff animation time (xplozv)
-- COM “juice” edited (by Tecmonster)
-- PA affects “catchability/interceptability” of the pass (jstout)
-- set kick returner farther back (bodom)
-- Ball Control ratios edited so BC means more (by Tecmonster)
-- static schedules from week to week (bruddog)
-- Quickness changed to Coverage (jstout)
-- kick returners use their actual attributes (konforce, jstout)
-- stats screen at halftime (xplozv)
    -- corrected playoff bracket (pambazos)
-- MAN-controlled QB rollouts on the rollout plays (Tecmonster)
-- LB’s moved farther back from line of scrimmage (Tecmonster)
-- Run & Shoot QB’s almost never scramble (Tecmonster)
-- “heavy pass” teams don’t pass quite as much (Tecmonster)
    -- REVISED PLAYBOOKS (I have drastically changed and re-organized the playbooks to make them more useful, logical, balanced, and modern), including: (a) new plays, like the Shotgun Shovel, Shotgun Zone Read RB R, Shotgun Zone Read QB L (with QB HP boost), Shotgun RB Draw, Shotgun Zone Read Red Sea (pass), Shotgun Zone Read X Fly (pass), Shotgun Zone Read RB Flat (pass), Pro Set Quick Pitch L, Pro Set Quick Pitch R, Pro Set Zone Pitch R, 1back Offtackle R, 1back Pitch R, 1back Pitch L, Run and Shoot Fire (pass), Shotgun XZ Cross, 1back Flare C, Pro Z Deep Post; (b) improved blocking schemes for many run plays; (c) some receiving routes for existing plays improved; (d) some receiving routes added, like for Oneback Flare A;
-- COM avoids sacks much better + faster COM rollouts (Tecmonster)
    -- shorter onside kicks (xplozv)
-- COM RB reacts to the defense sooner after handoff (Tecmonster)
-- smarter OL pass blocking (xplozv)
-- receiver jump/dive based on REC rating (xplozv)
-- defender jump/dive based on COV rating (xplozv)
-- COM minimum punt distance @ 50% bar (bruddog)
-- Avoid Pass Block ratios edited so APB means more (Tecmonster)
-- team rosters, jersey #’s, faces (Tecmonster)
    -- city name changes (bruddog)
-- automated and accurate sim ratings (Tecmonster)
Special thanks to bruddog, buck, and pambazos (zone read plays) for helping me understand play-making, and to tecmobowl.org.

    5) Go to "File" and save your rom.
This should fix the problem. Every time you edit your rom with TSBToolSupreme though, you're going to have to follow these steps directly afterwards.

I'm planning to release the annual magazine that typically accompanies this game by Sunday night.

    Enjoy!

  25. Tecmonster's Tecmo Super Bowl 2020

The game is now available and so is the 7th annual "Preview Magazine" to the game. Madden ratings were used once again to rate every player. Here's a list of hacks and hack authors used to help create this:
-- 32-team expansion rom (cx_rom, Maynard, Knobbe, others)
    -- helmets, field colors (keithisgood)
-- COM looks for open receivers (jstout)
-- COM Ultra Logic to play better defense (jstout)
-- moving & dynamic grapples (bruddog)
-- MAN vs. MAN popcorning (jstout)
-- sort receiving leaders by yards (jstout)
-- more accurate attribute labels, like “Acceleration” (Tecmonster)
-- kicking arrow speed & range to make FG’s easier (Tecmonster)
-- COM minimum kickoff distance (bruddog)
-- increase kickoff ball speed (maynard, bodom)
-- increase shotgun snap speed (jstout)
-- tougher to block FG’s by adding personal protectors (Tecmonster)
-- increase QB fumble rate (jstout)
-- decrease diving animation time slightly (xplozv)
-- decrease handoff animation time (xplozv)
-- COM “juice” edited (by Tecmonster)
-- PA affects “catchability/interceptability” of the pass (jstout)
-- set kick returner farther back (bodom)
-- Ball Control ratios edited so BC means more (by Tecmonster)
-- static schedules from week to week (bruddog)
-- Quickness changed to Coverage (jstout)
-- kick returners use their actual attributes (konforce, jstout)
-- stats screen at halftime (xplozv)
    -- corrected playoff bracket (pambazos)
-- MAN-controlled QB rollouts on the rollout plays (Tecmonster)
-- LB’s moved farther back from line of scrimmage (Tecmonster)
-- Run & Shoot QB’s almost never scramble (Tecmonster)
-- “heavy pass” teams don’t pass quite as much (Tecmonster)
    -- PLAYBOOKS (I have drastically changed and re-organized the playbooks to make them more useful, logical, balanced, and modern), including: (a) new plays, like the Shotgun Shovel, Shotgun Zone Read RB R, Shotgun Zone Read QB L (with QB HP boost), Shotgun RB Draw, Shotgun Zone Read Red Sea (pass), Shotgun Zone Read X Fly (pass), Shotgun Zone Read RB Flat (pass), Pro Set Quick Pitch L, Pro Set Quick Pitch R, Pro Set Zone Pitch R, 1back Offtackle R, 1back Pitch R, 1back Pitch L, Run and Shoot Fire (pass), Shotgun XZ Cross, 1back Flare C, Pro Z Deep Post; (b) improved blocking schemes for many run plays; (c) some receiving routes for existing plays improved; (d) some receiving routes added, like for Oneback Flare A;
-- COM avoids sacks much better + faster COM rollouts (Tecmonster)
    -- shorter onside kicks (xplozv)
-- COM RB reacts to the defense sooner after handoff (Tecmonster)
-- smarter OL pass blocking (xplozv)
-- receiver jump/dive based on REC rating (xplozv)
-- defender jump/dive based on COV rating (xplozv)
-- team rosters, jersey #’s, faces (Tecmonster)
-- minimum COM punts @ 50% meter (bruddog)
-- QB’s Avoid Pass Block rating is more important (low APB QB’s are bad news, notable increase in passes blocked)
-- moving grapples turbocharged (i.e. bruddog’s version sped up)
-- automated and accurate sim ratings (Tecmonster)

If you decide to make ANY edits to this game within TSBToolSupreme, then you'll very likely need to repair the rom afterwards because that program will break part of the moving grapple code and the game will glitch. So, here's what you do:
I used the Translhextion hex editor to create a file, named x3ffc0, and have included that with the rom here.  I recommend saving this file to your Desktop. How you apply this file: open up your rom in Translhextion and jump to offset x3ffc0 (by clicking Offset > Jump To > then enter x3ffc0 in the field).
    5) Go to "File" and save your rom.
This should fix the problem. Every time you edit your rom with TSBToolSupreme though, you're going to have to follow these steps directly afterwards.

Files available: (1) Tecmonster's Tecmo Super Bowl 2020 game file (2) Tecomonster’s TSB 2020 Preview Magazine (3) x3ffc0 repair file.

If you use this rom as a basis for a fantasy league like I do and you want the draft package, which lists players by salary, you can download it from the front page of our league’s website: renotecmoleague.weebly.com.
