Tecmo NCAA Basketball - Next Project!

Recommended Posts

One of the largest obstacles is trying to figure out what teams will be included, and which will be left out.  My initial list had 60 teams, but due to the game's limitations, I had to remove 33 of them.  I can make an argument for all 27 teams that are included just as easily for those that were left out.  There will be some disappointments, I'm sure.

I think it's crazy that most of the media thinks Indiana is going to be better than Purdue this year.  We swept the Hoosiers last year (including a total dismantling of them on our home floor), finished with a much better conference record, better overall record, only lose 1 starter (our least talented starter), and we actually add a McD's All-American in power forward Caleb Swanigan (as well as the national 3-point contest champion in shooting guard Ryan Cline).

Hoosiers lose 1 starter and their talent influx isn't as substantial, in my opinion.

So the math on IU > Purdue this season just doesn't add up.

Sounds like you've made a compelling argument for 2 roms

Maryland in the "Pacific" Division?

Yeah, I'm going to have to come up with some clever naming scheme for the divisions.  Atlantic was okay, as far as it being primarily Big East/ACC teams.  I did change the Central division to read Southern, and I left Midwest alone.  Pacific, turns out, is a hodgepodge of everybody else, inadvertently.  Maryland is almost as non-Pacific as you can get.

My thought is that maybe you silently seed each team and then fill divisions not by geography, but by an even distribution of talent.  So, the four 1-seeds would all be separated, as well as the four 2-seeds, and so on.  Then, you could just name the divisions something arbitrary like Red, White, Blue, and Black.

The first logo edits are complete.  So tedious.  Is there an easier way to use TileLayer Pro other than pixel-by-pixel?  In the bottom picture, Syracuse goes on the road to play Villanova at The Pavilion.  (Ignore the NBA logo at midcourt)

IMO Tile Layer Pro is whack and obsolete although many on this site are too old school to change. ;) Tile Molester lets you edit things on a clipboard.

I'll have to check this out. Just off a 30 second view Tile Layer Pro is a much simpler from the start

Just did the Georgetown Hoyas' logo.  Thought I'd share my method of converting picture files to Tile Layer Pro sprites.  Aside from it sharing the same color palette with North Carolina, Duke, and Villanova, I think it came out nicely.

gtn.png

First, I use the Tile Arranger in Tile Layer Pro to lay out the sprites I want to change.

After finding a picture that I want to turn into 8-bit art, I open it up in Paint.

While open in Paint, I resize it to the size (or just smaller) than the original ROM's sprite.  For Georgetown's, I believe it was 36x36.

After shrinking it, I zoom in as far as Paint allows.

I then "trace" over the image using three colors.  The end result is a 3-color pixel-art.  These three colors will directly correspond with the colors in Tile Layer Pro.

After setting Paint right next to Tile Layer Pro on my desktop, I cut and drag individual 8x8 tiles to the side in Paint and directly copy the design in Tile Layer Pro.  You don't have to drag the 8x8 tile to the side, but I find it makes it easier to work with.  Once you copy the tile, delete it so there is no accidental redundant tiles.
