Looking to start a Fund Raiser Tournament in Chicago, IL

Hello all,

My name is Steven and I live in Chicago, IL and I came up with an idea:

I want to organize a tournament in Chicago, IL, at a bar called Beercade and the idea is that the proceedings would go to a charity. I already contacted them and they liked the idea.

The reason why I want to do a charity instead of winnings is because I see how these tournaments are so big this can be beneficial to a charity.

I would like to give out trophies to first, second and third place or at least a Championship Belt.

I contacted Tecmo Madison and they allowed me to use their ruleset from their website.

I just wanted to post here to see if I can get some help from anyone that is willing to help organize with me.

I was thinking of an April date, so we can have some time to organize and let other Tourneys play out.

If any ideas or questions please post them here or you can contact me directly at [email protected]

Thank you for your time!

I think I can speak for many here, but if I can't, well atleast it's just me...

It's tough to get a large number of participants working solely for a charity. Sure, trophies are nice, but IMO you would best be served doing part charity, part cash to winners.

I used to live in Chicago, have ran a tourney there and still have friends there. They tell me great things about Beercade! Best of luck man and always keep in mind...

Something similar has been done in the past in Ohio.

I'd check out this thread -> http://tecmobowl.org/topic/51286-all-28-slots-filled-final-boneyard-bowl-westlake-oh-011913/

and then send a PM to UltimateWeapon who I'm sure will answer any questions you have

I'm sure you'll get some group of people to show given the large population so it's just a matter of finding a guy(s) who might be interested in helping you run the tourney as stated above.

At the last tournament I did for charity mentioned in the thread above, we raised over $800 for the Salvation Army between the registration fees and the auction items.  It did take several years to build up to that vision though after running a number of smaller tournaments.  Running a tournament for charity will give you a great sense of accomplishment.  However, you will get more people if you donate a portion to charity and a portion goes towards a prize pool / trophies.  In retrospect, I probably should have started with this format to build a core group and then slowly worked up to a 100% charity tournament.  Happy to answer any other questions you may have and best of luck!

This is great, thanks man!

Yea, all 3 of you guys said pretty much the same thing, and it does make sense to do it part charity and part earnings, I'll definitely take a look at the thread post mentioned above and grab some ideas, if you don’t mind.

And if anything, I'll let you know, I appreciate the help!
