NFTGL reboot draft

After 11 seasons, the NFTGL coaches have decided to shake things up.

Same teams in the pool. Back to base rosters.

Team options are NFC Central and West.

Niners roster adjustments: lose young, rice, norton and hanks. Gain Dave Brown, Flipper Anderson, Ronnie Lott and Bill Romanowski.

Who would you draft and in what order?

After compiling a bevy of scientific data (not really), and considering the NFTGLs penchant for using the goal line glitch (really), but not taking into consideration default playbooks (that might alter my list a bit), here is my off the cuff list:

1) Atlanta

2) Minnesota

3) New Orleans

4) Chicago

5) Tampa Bay

6) Carolina

7) San Francisco

 Detroit

9) St. Louis

10) Green Bay

A caveat is that I haven't played the OG ROM in so long that I don't have a "feel" for these teams.

Just an observation:  San Francisco seems to get unnecessarily "nerfed" to an extensive degree, which is another way of saying, it seems their default value is overestimated.  I get them losing Rice, and maybe Young (see comment later), but why for instance, Norton?  It's like all of their best players get traded out, while other teams, featuring players of similar caliber, get to keep their guys.  The drop off from Young to Dave Brown is immense (causing SF to perhaps have THE WORST QB of all of the teams), and its not like SF is so much better than the rest of these teams, especially if we include all of the trade-outs, that they should get such a terrible QB.  Meanwhile, just as one example, a team like the Vikings gets to keep Moon, who is 56/75/69.

CC... the Niners, are the best team in the game, with base rosters. They have depth (of goodness) everywhere.

When making these adjustments the team still ranks as the 2nd best of these 10 teams. They still have multiple decent LBs. The WR corp is still one of the best in the game overall. It may seem excessive, but when you look at the depth and talent at every position on the team, it still balances out. While other teams do get to keep their stars, and the Niners still have stars on their team (Brent Jones, Flipper Anderson, Tim McDonald) they don't have the depth across the board, and talent across the board.

While SF is a good team, I respectfully disagree that they are the best team in the OG game, although they do have insane stars at WR and QB.

I understand the desire to trim that team down, but the question is to what degree....

Going from Young to Brown is a huge drop off, to the point as I said, that SF probably has the worst QB of all of the teams in the NFTGL league now.

And then they lost like three other players....

With the goal line, and Brown at the helm, the Niners are not the second best team.

That is just a side observation, anyway....the question was how would we rank these teams.  I'd rank SF lower than most of those teams, namely b/c they have the worst (or one of the worst) QB, and the rest of their talent is at best on par with most of the other teams, with certain teams being better at certain positions than the Niners.

How would you rank the teams Ray?

I would draft the teams in this order:

Atlanta, San Francisco, Tampa Bay, St Louis, Detroit, Chicago, New Orleans, Minnesota, Carolina, Green Bay

Part of this is factoring in ability to make trades in the off season. Some teams have shown a greater ability to acquire players (within the confines of the NFTGL trade rules) then others.

In the OG Game (is that like ATM Machine?), how would you rank teams? I rank the top 3 as San Fran, Dallas, Denver.

Also... You've referenced goal line twice. The only team in the draft pool that can really run goal line is New Orleans and maybe Chicago but with Carrier it's not necessary. As to their being a 'glitch' in regards to goal line. I don't see it. I know you think there is a glitch. I don't think we need to debate that here.

I think it's hard to disagree that DAL, SAF, and DEN are in a class by themselves in the OG game, and I guess I'd rank them in that order.  You might switch SAF and DAL for 1 and 2, if you like to trade crazy Emmitt for running Steve Young.  But things certainly drop off after that.  You start thinking about teams like Miami, Seattle, Oakland, Washington, and Pittsburgh.  Not in the same class as those three, though.

I think the Dave-Brown-to-Flipper combo could be a dangerous one, and with Floyd's 38/69 speed/power combo, the offense could still produce.  Everything would hinge on old McDonald not getting hurt, but I still like the nerfed Niners as the best NFTGL team for my money.

Then,

Atlanta, Tampa, Detroit, Chicago, New Orleans, St. Louis, Carolina, Minnesota, Green Bay

  • 3 weeks later...

Our old league rule for distributing teams was to roll a die and take what you get... the coach that drafted 3rd wanted to stick to that old rule, and while the league overall voted to change to a draft format, the coach decided to stick with the die roll system.
