DEF Only - STACKED - No rush

I just completed a DEF-Only season with the Carolina Panthers where I stacked my D and played Dime every play.  I mostly controlled my LB and did not allow him to rush the passer.

Purpose:

How would dropping a stud LB back into coverage affect team INTs?  In an earlier thread, it was suggested that there's an order to how COM "checks" for an INT.  First DL, then LB, then DB, then S.

Do some positions on the DL have more impact than others?  This may depend on your schedule, but I wanted to see which guy would wreak the most havoc.  In my usual DEF Only challenges the top DL ends up with the most tackles, but the 3rd one down seems to wreak the most havoc by blowing up play action and solo-tackling runs up the middle.

Instead of calling them by their true positions, I'll list them by how they appear on the diagram top to bottom:

Mayhew

BPickens                         Randy White

Lott                Jack Ham   Tom Sims

MRobertson                    Joe Greene

BMcDowell                       Merlin Olsen

Toi

28 total INTs

This is a low total, especially if you consider the quality of the DB/S.  Six of those were by Jack Ham.  For example, in my last Cheap-O Challenge I got 39 INTs.

Two things come to mind to consider.  First, maybe my opponents were getting sacked to death and couldn't throw.  But my team sack total was 205.  This is on the high side, but not uncommon.  Second, the quality of QBs I was facing was pretty good with two games against Young, two against Everett, and I know I had a game vs Marino.

Still, I think dropping a LB back, even one with as good a base INT as 44, could have had a negative impact on total INTs.

Now, to my second purpose.

Randy White - 58 sacks - 106 tackles - 3 FF

Tom Sims - 11 sacks - 14 tackles - 0 FF

Joe Greene - 78 sacks - 104 tackles - 6 FF

Merlin Olsen - 51 sacks - 80 tackles - 2 FF

They all seem pretty close.  Too close to call it evidence.  Still, I think Joe Greene caused the most problems for the QB "naturally," while a lot of White and Olsen's sacks were on called pass plays.  Also, that top DL was in on a lot of tackles.  Since that always seems to be the case, I wonder if it has more to do with that position just happening to make the play on called plays.

There had also been a discussion about HP factoring into FF.  It does not appear to be the case as my team forced fumble total of 20 is quite low compared with other seasons.  It also makes me think of another hypothesis I've had - greater HP can actually LOWER the chance of a fumble because they tackle the opponent so immediately.  When you have a bunch of 44 HP guys swarming you, grappling you, bouncing off, re-grappling you, it seems like the fumbles come more frequently.  But when Joe Greene hits a guy, he usually falls right down.

Things I wish I would have done differently:

1.  I wish I would not have called any pass plays.  That way I could see who really made an impact "naturally."

2.  I wish I would have used a LB with a poor INT rating.  For some reason I want to be sure than dropping a LB back into coverage lessens the chance at an INT.

I still would like to mess with the DL some more.  Like put Joe Greene in the second or bottom slot and a 63 guy at the third slot.
