Tecmo Super Bowl is the greatest sports video game of all time. Now, 22 years after TSB made 8-Bit legends of Bo Jackson and Lawrence Taylor, TecmoBowl.org proudly announces the release of Tecmo Super Bowl 2014. This 7th yearly iteration updates Tecmo's NES classic with up-to-date rosters, graphics, schedules and play books for all 32 NFL squads.

Playable on multiple platforms and operating systems via NES emulation software, Tecmo Super Bowl 2014 brings Nintendo's bone-crunching classic to today's computers and handheld devices.

Can J.J. Watt create the chaos Bruce Smith did in '91? Can Adrian Peterson match the legendary Bo Jackson? Who is the more deadly play-caller: Colin Kaepernick or QB Eagles? Loaded into an NES Emulator, Tecmo Super Bowl 2014 will make legends for the next 22 years.

A. How This Works
If you're new to emulation:
ROM = Game or Cartridge (.nes file)
Emulator = NES System

B. How To Play - PC/Mac

  • Download Nestopia for your platform and also the .nes ROM.
  • Open Nestopia.
  • From Nestopia, File > Open and find your .nes ROM.

C. How to Play Online - Windows
Setup for online play using our guide - http://tecmobowl.org/topic/53066-guide-get-started-playing-tsb-online-for-dummies/. We then recommend starting out at the TPC - http://www.tecmoplayers.com

Most TPC players use the original Tecmo Super Bowl ROM, but you might be able to find some people playing TSB 2013. Remember that the versions of the game must be exactly the same or you will not be able to connect.

If you’re looking for an online league, we recommend TecmoBowl.org's Online Tecmo Leagues.

D. Tecmo Super Bowl 2014 notes

  • 32-Team ROM
  • Rosters current as of 9/2/13
  • Adjustable quarter length
  • Playbook editing in-game
  • Player 2 attributes now display correctly
  • Halftime stats
  • Passing Accuracy now works.  Passing Accuracy determines if a pass will be completed.  Pass Control determines if the ball will be on target
  • Quickness now works.  This will be the maximum speed of a defender if they pick up a fumble or make an interception
  • In order to get the proper Pro Bowl players, you will need to reset the season from the Schedule menu

Saints fan here!

1.) Jimmy Graham is terrible in this game. In real life, he's unarguably the best week 1 healthy TE in the NFL. Freakin' Oakland's starting tight end (I didn't name him because no one from the other 31 fanbases knows him) only catches slightly worse. Kyle Rudolph is far better. Old guys Gates and Gonzalez are faster. Dallas Clark is a BACKUP! and he's just as good. I really don't get it. (edit: just did a speed sim. 0 catches. I'm perplexed)

2.) Can Roman Harper become Kenny Vaccaro? He can remain the same (maybe take the hitting power down).

3.) Mark Ingram: 94 hitting power? On what planet? He was used horribly last year, but he's 5'9 215. He's not effin' Ironhead Heyward.

Random observations:

Kansas City is in a single-back formation, but there's a FB at WR3. Just make them standard set? Also, could Arizona go to the one setback formation vs. run & shoot? They have a starter and backup at TE, 3 WRs out of 4 on the field, etc. Just looks like a better fit imo.

Bilal Powell is starting for the Jets as of now

Issac Redman is another one with a head-scratching 94 hitting power. Adrian Peterson only has a 31 hitting power. Given the other two RBs I already pointed out, I'm stumped.

Peyton Manning is in #17?

I like using the 4WR set for Detroit to get 2 TEs on the field, however only 1/4 pass plays have Bush as a receiver option. I feel like they should default with 3 or maybe even all 4 pass plays having him as a receiving option.

Return guys are okay.

Where are strong safeties getting all these sacks from? Dawan Landry has 16, Brandon Meriweather and Laron Landry had 14, Steve Gregory and TJ Ward had 13, MD Jennings and Thomas Decoud had 11...

I am not sure what ROM you are looking at.

Jimmy Graham has 69REC.

Mychal Rivera has 44REC.

Dallas Clark has 44REC.

In other words, Graham >>>>>>>>> Rivera & Clark.

How is 69REC terrible? I don't get it.

He's slow as balls and apparently Drew Brees hates him in simulated seasons.

there is a stock TSB bug when it comes to TE sim.  there is a well-documented fix for it, it must not have been applied here.  sorry.

There are probably a handful of things we potentially missed, either intentionally on unintentionally.

We might have nerfed the speed on Graham to balance out the Saints or just might have whiffed in general.

We didn't have this thing out as early as usual so we very well might have overlooked some stuff.  Throw it out here and we'll either change it or we won't in the next week.

I was wrong, the fix was applied.  I just did a shitty job of sim stats in some places...

also, I just simmed a season and all top were LBs or DL.  the max was 25 sacks.

sim again, bro.  this stuff is somewhat random.

Hey, if the NFL didn't have to have these ridiculous Thursday games then we wouldn't have to release on Wednesday

Hey, can we please get this in an NES File?? I've downloaded emulators before and I'm having a ton of trouble getting this.

We have three downloads, one for a Win emulator, one for a Mac emulator, and the nes file.

T-Borg2014.nes is what you are looking for.

Thanks man, I tried that, but for some reason my computer won't recognize it. I have WinRar downloaded too. I've downloaded numerous ROMs from this site without any problem. This one is a head scratcher. Please help. Thanks!

It's all good! Trust me, I've been visiting this site sine 2006. I've seen the work you guys put in (even grabbed an editor once to understand exactly how tough it is). Seriously. I commend you guys. I'm not beating anyone up and I don't intend to come across as such. I simulate and am posting observations that may raise flags for other simulators. If it's fixable, cool; if not, no big deal. I'll still play it.

If the concern is that making Graham strong over-powers the Saints, weaken Moore a little and Ingram a lot. Saints' RBs aren't known for how great they've been recently. Sproles is still a baller though

I hear you, those are good ideas.
