TecmoBowl.org Download Section

All,

You may or may not have noticed that we've been uploading files into the new Download section! Until the new Download section is complete, you can find all of TecmoBowl.org's member-made ROMs in the Upload/Download section of the forum.

Eventually this how is this system will work...

Forum members that are "approved" to do so will start out their initial ROM upload in the Download section. This will automatically create a thread in the forum for them to receive feedback.

If the ROM is going to be constantly updated, instead of throwing in a bunch of different ROMs or over-writing the old ROMs, you'll be able to use "version control" in the download section. Version control refers to the fact you can upload as many ROMs as you want, and we will not only be able to see the latest version, but also can pull up older versions if we want.

"Approved" guys will simply refer to forum ROM authors who have produced a ROM/program/etc. before that has been put in the Download section. The type of ROMs we want here are the ones that have significant work put into them; not the kind that you've only changed a couple of players. Those minimally-updated ROMs can still be loaded into the ROMs Upload/Download section of the forum.

This is how it will work in the mean time...

We've started uploading a bunch of ROMs into the new Download section. They are missing a lot of information. This includes:

  • Original author (all of these ROMs will be uploaded as author, "Tecmo_Bot" until changed)
  • Original support thread (read up on the ROMs developments)
  • Relevant tags (easily find all ROMs from any season)
  • Update the description (understand what work has been put into the ROM)

If you are interested in helping with this organizing process, please let me know via PM.

Thanks!

I guess the author "Tecmo_Bot" makes just as much sense as "Anonymous." But I will recommend that for the thumbnail of each ROM, since it's highly unlikely most usermade ROMs are going to come equipped with graphics, that we create a bunch of default thumbnails that denote the kind of ROM it is by roster year and console-type.

This a quick generalized mock-up.

I was wondering why some 'buck roms' are not at the top of the list?  (or even on the list at all?)  not to toot my own "whorn", but my roms have been highly revered since '09.  these half-ass noob stock roms are getting all the hits, it seems.

but then again, I still find this new website clusterfukalicious, so I could be missing the obvious.

The download section is a work is progress. I'm sure that once all of the ROMs are uploaded, tinkering to the system will be done to highlight the ROMs that should be highlighted. I'm trying my best to barely even look at it until I know SLIM_JIMMY is done with his work, because as it looks now--yeah--the cluttering gives me an anxiety attack. My thumbnail suggestion above is more of a 'thinking ahead' issue.
