Just finished watching that 30 for 30 on ESPN again about Marcus DuPree. I was just thinking, had he been healthy at the beginning of the 1990 season he would have been on the LA Rams on the original TSB. To add another verse to the song about him being the best that never was, how highly do people think he would have been rated on TSB? Afterall, in HIGH SCHOOL, he ran the 100m in 9.5 seconds and could rep 400 lbs on the bench around 10 times! Thats what they said on the show anyway. Also, Barry Switzer, his coach at Oklahoma, who also coached Emmit, Michael, Deion, and Charles Haley on the 94 Cowboys, said Marcus was the best athlete he ever coached.

Of course by the time he got to the Rams he had had a big time knee surgery, and he was cut by Chuck Knox in 1992 because he couldn't catch the ball out of the backfield. Still, for the guy to just get off the couch, and walk onto an NFL squad after dropping 100 lbs in three months, and getting back to running a 4.3 40, he had to have had some greatness left.

It would have been tough to rate him very high on TSB except maybe his rookie year before he started.
He would have been a lot better off going somewhere that wasn't Oklahoma

Sounds a lot like Tony Manderich from Michigan State who was a complete flop in the nfl. Great physical specimen, amazing training numbers, translated to a flop career for the Green Bay Packers. For another example from the same era and same school check out Brian Bosworth.

Except Marcus wasn't on roids like either of those two, Manderich actually went on to have a decent career in Indianapolis, and Bosworth was a good player who lost his career to injury. Marcus left Oklahoma to go to Southern Missippi and ultimately to the USFL. He signed a 5 million dollar (about 10 million today) contract and blew out his knee all before he turned 21. His only real fault seemed to be that he was injury prone becuase he wasnt the worlds hardest worker, after all he was out of shape and overweight when he set the Fiesta Bowl rushing record. He was only 26 when he finally made it to the NFL. It is hard to say how good he would have been if he had never been hurt... Maybe give him 80% Okoye or 90% Hershcel Walker???

I remember MARCUS DUPREE on the Rams...I had his 1990 Pro Set football card...I was to young to appreciate him in OKLAHOMA...but after I saw 30/30, and realized how much of a PHENOM he was.... I IMMEDIATLY checked Super Tecmobowl & SNES Super Tecmobowl........only to find Buford ******' McGee. If the Tecmo creators only knew :(

The Tecmo developers had a choice, and they definitly made the wrong one when it came down to who was the last runningback on the Rams 91' roster. It should have been Curt Warner, Cleveland Gary, Gaston Green, & Marcus Dupree.....Just by his stature & college career alone, they could have found a spot for this guy.....It would have been fun programing his stats. (I'da givin' him something like John Stephens since he was making an NFL comeback)........Buford McGee over the 6'3 240 lb Marcus Dupree??? What the hell were ya thinkin Tecmo??? You shoulda' researched a little more. It's kinda sad ta think how good this guy shoulda' been

Buck......you could rectify TECMO'S mistake!!!....and send a copy to Marcus Dupree! Hell....he's probably on ****in' facebook. If anybody deserves roster spot on Tecmo Superbowl, it's HIM. You'd probably make his day.

Got to defend Buford "1990 Rams MVP" McGee though... terrific blocker, 5,3 rush/avg, as many rec-TDs as Ellard & Flipper, and among the top receivers on a team that's got lots of talent.

If DuPree should have been included, it would have to be instead of either Warner or Green...

Yeah, but then you'd have to replace Marcus with Bob Delpino.

(By the way, Proads, are you gonna do a '12-13 Rom this year?.... I hope so! )

Just won the Superbowl with him on the Rams...........defeated the Colts of all people. Dupree had a buck 78 with 4 TD's. He has stats like John Stephens of the Patriots, so he's a powerful runner.
