I play in a simulated college basketball league on whatifsports.com. Basically, each game generates a play-by-play that you can read to see what happened. So I started thinking about how cool it would be if you could "watch" the game, rather than simply reading about it. To this end, I envisioned being able to import the play-by-play as a "script" into a video game and watching the results unfold. But, of course, no game I know of supports anything like this. Then I thought of all the cool hacks being done to the classic Tecmo games and Coach K.
I don't know the first thing about hacking ROMs, so forgive my ignorance, but do you think the kind of thing I am looking for (basically, the ability to "script" a basketball game and then watch it) is even remotely possible using something like Super Tecmo NBA Basketball or Coach K?
Your feedback is appreciated.
ROM where you can watch "scripted" games

It's a cool thought but unfortunately it could be very very difficult if not impossible without completely porting the code over to another platform so that you could add code do do what you requested.
You'd probably have to hack the emulator rather than the game itself because you'd have to have some way to import the script file. If you couldn't analyze what the random variables were in real time you'd have no shot of making it work just by hacking the emulator.
Long story short...don't hold your breath.

Football tecmo yes, but as far as Coach k no. No ones really broken th play AI on that. Basketball prpbably has a lot of if then coding, because there is no start stop to play. Football is hut to whistle, thus AI more routine.
