fuck that noise
also - I don't allow all the scripts for webpages so I can't even see the little "Reputation Device" without allowing all kinds of bullshit (ads, etc).

I'll refrain from giving you a -1 on this one
You shouldn't allow scripts on any page EXCEPT this one....any good script blocker should be able to handle that unless your strategy is to run Netscape Navigator 5

I was wondering if Rep would ever come here. In some ways i was hoping it wouldn't and in some i was looking forward to it. It should prove interesting to say the least.

I dig this reputation thing. I also prefer it under the "quote" button as opposed to over the post on the left.

I think Reputation is a nonsensical but positive addition. In my fantasy land world, I think if it could be combined as a variable option for clarifying better forum content-based search results, then we'd really be in business.
I do a search for "TSB Offense Hacking" (for random instance) and to be able to get rid of "vegaskingpin"s post under Buck's, by combining Reputation with search results as a additional radio-box variable on the search page, would be pretty sweet.

So, I think the point of the rep system is unclear. I see a few scenarios:
1. The abusive post - thumbs-downed for racial slurs, obnoxious, forum polluting blather, some noob posting his question in every forum to try and get a faster response etc
2. The lazy post - thumbs-downed for some noob asking a question without first checking out all the common places on the forum for finding info
3. The "even though it wasn't flame-like in its tone, I don't agree with your opinion" post - A Bear fan doesn't like that I'm a Packer fan and therefore thumbs-down my post...or vice versa, a fellow Packer fan thumbs-up my post because he likes the Packers too
I think the reputation system works in 1 & 2, but in 3, the number is just polluted and means nothing (not that any of this REALLY means anything). What I mean is, #3 really dissolves to to not being reputation anymore, unless that is we're on a Packer forum, and then it'd be a "Packer reputation," or something like that.
I got a dislike on a post that matched a similar scenario in #3.

1) Who cares! I'm pretty sure I've been given a few negatives, but I couldn't tell you who or for what posts...and I really don't care to check. Those who visit regularly know you contribute to the board. I'm still playing your 2011 RBI ROM....so....If it makes you feel better, I'll go give you +1s all over that post!
2) The person who gave you a -1 was that ToonSpielmanODFaves chick(aka Fireman Ed). I wouldn't pay much attention to that as she is a worthless member. She has given a few other people -1s (including fatcheerleader) and rarely only posts on the board, except when the Jets are in the playoffs to bust people's balls. I realized she was a douchebag when during a Pats vs. Jets banter back and forth, she got personal and brought my "kid" into it. After Pittsburgh stomped the Jets, her mood quickly went from happy to miserable. Seems like an overall loser. For her sake, I hope the Jets do finally win something so the poor bastard don't kill herself. I'm sure Knobbe doesn't want the first board casualty on his conscience, either.
So to sum it up, I agree with you, but does it really matter?

It'd be difficult for me to come out and say I don't care at all considering I made a post in regards to this, but what I can say for certain is I don't care THAT much. I mean, people know me around here, so it's not like someone is gonna see that and be like, OMG, I can't trust him cause his rep is low. I really was just posting to discuss the system and offer up my observations...I'm not really that worried that it'll affect my real rep or credibility
On a side note, glad you are still playing the ROM. I'll be releasing an update after the season is over...for my own entertainment, how do you play, and what team? I dont' know anyone who plays vids like this anymore, so for me it's all 1P vs. the CPU, on the juiced ROM. I play that I have to throw strikes, but can curve it if I want, and while the juiced ROM takes the slop mostly out of the game, if I get the chance, I don't abuse the remaining stupidity that the CPU offers up. I lose some games, I win some, and I have a blast with it. I often replay games that the Brewers lose (hmph, it's been a while since that happened
or play games that are upcoming in their schedule. I have 2 ROMs each with the team's 1-4 rotation (sorry Narveson). Curious to hear about your playing experience...feel free to PM me if you don't want to pollute this thread anymore...

I'm all about polluting threads with personal chatter! Honestly, I'd give myself a few -1s if I could. On a side note, glad you are still playing the ROM. I play as the Red Sox and probably 95% of the time vs. NYY. 1P vs. CPU, Juiced. If I strike out the CPU, I lose....and no abusing the CPU stupidity. Kinda like when I play TSB, I NEVER zig zag. Cheapo.
I'm not much of a video game guy, there's only 3 or 4 games I play consistently, all from original NES (TSB, RBI, Ice Hockey) + NHL94 (GENS), none of that new system garbage, so I'm talking 2-3 games/week if I'm bored. Very entertaining though.

No, but when I was younger I used to record full seasons of stats. I don't anymore. My win % is probably around 80%. Are you still thinking about running that COA league?Awesome, do you keep track of your record or stats or anything? Do you beat those stupid Yankees often?

Just to touch on what Bodom says, people are going to give out -1s for the wrong reason....that's pretty much why facebook hasn't implemented that. In the long run, the creme will rise to the top and the crap is going to sink to the bottom.

Yes! This is somethign I am definitely going to do. I want to set it up so that guys trend up and down and you can recall guys from the minors and whatever, and still have it be low-obligation fun...so you can be your own RBI GM.
For the first season I'll probably just run it straight gameplay, you get a 16-man roster that you can set your lineups for each game...if it catches on, we'll add more flavor. Maybe we can do this once my 2011 final ROM is done, either in the off-season or the start of the 2012 season...either way, this is one of my priority projects on my radar that I'll get to sooner or later.
P.S. Thanks for the reply, Knobbe, that was precisely the reason for my post, I thought it was being used wrong, but whatever, no big deal.

Basically the only way to insure that it would always be used properly would be to eliminate it completely. If that needs to be done in the future it will.
Along the same lines, people can give out +1s for the wrong reasons as well....like to counteract a -1. So....it's going to even out and if someone is going to abuse the system it will be addressed
