notice in the offrical trailer video in season mode they show the playoff teams there are two houstons in the left bracket. Im thinking there might be 32 teams after all. I dont know why they wouldnt call one of the houstons tenn. though. The gameplay videos in 2d are pretty much the exact same thing from the snes version so if you liked that game you will like this.

I bet they just "cut and pasted" the Houston team to fill the vacant spot and hadn't done anything else with it before the video.

I see from the cutscenes that the players have first and last names. Glad to see that.

Watch the population of this site boom once this game hits. It's enough like the classic (with new additions) to do everything that we, as a TSB fanbase could hope: generate new fans to come here.

We already know it doesn't have "everything".

In many ways, the peeps already members of this forum will never be totally satisfied with whatever Tecmo produces in new TSB incarnations; because we have a better grasp on what is possible with the old game engine. So, when I say 'everything,' I mean the most we could hope for is enough success out of throwback to generate more eye-balls to this here forum.

true & true... I am just being a bitter boy as I hate the computer companies constantly falling short. And, its more them not doing the basics right that bugs me. Not having features from the 1991 version to me is unacceptable!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...this game should succeed for the simple fact that noone has to configure their router to play it, and will be able to voice chat with friends while playing it...
Will it fall short of some of the beautiful hacks we have here...probably, but it should give us easy online play for the original SNES version. I swear if this one succeeds, they'll release another one with a few more features.

The reason why I don't think this game will 'succeed' for a general audience, is because it lacks too much that Madden has--a license for the NFL being the not-so-obscured Elephant in the Room. I think it'll be played by a very small select audience. Most football gamers grew-up with, and currently have been 100% brainwashed by Madden. Until the license expands, I really do feel anything (as in, anything at all) is DOA.

Gotta remember, the ease of distribution of this thing is gonna be an advantage too. People are gonna have an easy time plunking down $10 from the comfort of their la-z-boy...

Sure, but to the unbiased new fan, this game looks as promising as a Facebook applet game, particularly without the NFL license--in comparison to the Juggernaut that is Madden. Peeps be pinching pennies these days, and if they know they're going for the NFL franchise game, they might avoid spending $10 unnecessarily on a non-NFL, (in their eyes) sub-par game-play / graphics equivalent.

3D graphics look cool it's just sad they aren't really adding anything else new. It's more or less a straight port with online play added in.
I like how in 3D mode the amount of field that is visible is greater.

After watching that trailer I realized that this game is just a straight port of the SNES. No new plays, no tweaks to the gameplay, etc. I guess I should've realized it before.
Tecmo once again just doesn't get it. Hopefully it'll be a hit if it means an actual NEW Tecmo Bowl and not just ports and bad "remakes" (DS version).
Also, did anyone notice how weird the animations are in the "3D" mode? I'm assuming that's because it has to match the 2D (original) version in case you're playing someone online. That's a letdown.
Anyone know how much Tecmo is charging for this? Anything more than $10 is a bit much for a straight up port of a game that's almost 20 years old, IMO.

They are finally coming out with a new tecmo that isn't going to suck... and people are complaining? the hell?
This is probably the best thing to ever happen to the online community... do you guys have any idea how big of a marketshare this new "app/DLC" market is garnering? it's the wave of the future for gaming honestly - mark my words going to the store to buy a game in 30 years will be nothing more than a rarity and a nostalgia bomb, if consoles still even have external devices to read data from.
With Throwback we can go online and get games fast and easily. We can even tell our opponent about how we play online via emulators, all the cool hacks and 2010 rosters we have, and where they can go to play online. On top of this, we can add them as PSN friends to keep up with them and send them links. It's a dream scenario for people like knobbe and TDO who spend their own free time trying to promote the game.
So please, let's look at the glass as half full for once. We have an amazing opportunity to expose a whole new generation of people to the game we all love and let's not scare them away with our negativity.
