Want another copy of Kickoff for Christmas?

Apparently, Amazon.com is now selling the brand new Kickoff for only $14.95.

It could be a temporary discount, but it looks more like a permanent price cut.

Maybe Kickoff is not selling well on Amazon. You just don't see this kind of a price cut for a brand new game.

Nevertheless, if you were thinking about selling your Kickoff on eBay, expect a deep price cut now.

According to vgchartz.com the game has only sold about 5,000 copies.

I think I'm going to hold off on buying it until I see how customizable the game is after everything is unlocked, and I want to see what the Wii version will be like.

Exactly. The few changes that were made were for the worse.

I'm so disappointed and pissed off with Tecmo.

I just hope the Wii version isn't cancelled, but if it is due to Kickoff's poor sales, Tecmo only has it's self to blame.

You guys are being dorks. For one thing, the game hasn't been out even 2 weeks. That $15 price on Amazon was a weekend special, and it is now back at its regular price. I just don't get what all the complaining is about. It's like you expected this DS version to be the be all, end all version of the game, when it's basically portable version of the SNES TSB with some extra stuff added in. Point blank, it plays like a Tecmo Bowl game should, and I'd say the level of customization and the super abilities are nice and set it apart from every version up to this point. I guess the PSX version was customizable, but need I remind you of the gameplay? I will say that there's a few errors in the game, such as "tales" vs. "tails" and also the names and proper colored down/yard arrow not fliping over when there's a side change. I will admit that they should have had the smarts to have some of the fans be random testers for the game, but even so, those small errors can be learned from and I don't think they ruin what is good about the game. "The sky is falling! The sky is falling!" Give me a fucking break, man.

Moonlight, you can't tell me that you are satisfied with a company putting a game to market that has the same bugs that the original one did (KR return issue, anyone?). That tells me they didn't spend much time on this thing at all

To be honest, I'm usually easily pleased on this sort of thing, not one to bitch and have such high expectations, but to me, this game is not worth the money. I'll stick to my roms and wait for the Wii version to come out, if it ever does.

Moonlight J, I guess you don't deserve the best. Are you one of those people who are happy with mediocrity all the time?

Mediocre products and mediocre services shouldn't be praised or encouraged. It's all business--only the best will survive.

We have right to demand the best especially after waiting 15 years for the new Tecmo Bowl. Tecmo failed to deliver and we all know that it wasn't that difficult to hit the mark. Tecmo just didn't work as hard.

Michael Phelps won 8 gold medals earlier this year. He did his absolute best and we are all proud of him. We all appreciate his hard work and the highest standard that he set for himself. But, what if Michael Phelps who won 6 gold medals 4 years ago got lazy and didn't even try to do his best and ended up winning only a few bronze medals this year?

Tecmo could have easily won the gold with Kickoff only if they tried, but they got lazy and only won a bronze. Tecmo didn't even try. That is why many of us are so upset and angry.

Loyal Tecmo fans deserve better. Tecmo does not deserve to charge us $30 for the Kickoff. $14.99 or $9.99 sounds fair for such a lazy product.

I just don't get what all the complaining is about.

Pull your fanboi head out of your ass, and actually look at the game

it's not as good as the hacked 32 team rom

simple as that, and that's pathetic

(no offense intended at all towards the guys who did the awesome job of hacking the rom. but a professional team should be able to put out something at least as good as someone with a hex editor....)

In all reality, you gotta wonder what kind of budget Tecmo allowed on a franchise that hasn't reared its head for over a decade. Perhaps they did the best that they could with the limitations they were stuck with. I'd like to see how Phelps would have done if he somehow severed off a hand a week prior to the Olympics. I agree with Tupa. Tecmo doesn't owe us shit, and we're pretty fortunate they finally decided to do at least something. Main points again: What exactly did everyone expect, and take this version for what it is. Good grief.

I agree Tecmo doesn't owe us anything, and I agree that we are lucky they even made an attempt. Still, I don't understand why you're so upset...just cause they don't owe us anything doesn't mean the community doesn't have a right to be disappointed and bitch about the things we wanted not being in the game...if you're so annoyed at all the bitching, why do you continue to read the bitching...

Finally, isn't the point of a messageboard to discuss things like this? Even with this topic we have a pretty big drought of interestingness here on Knobbe lately...

There is a very fine line between "Beggars can't be choosers," and "Thank you, sir! May I have another?"

Since we haven't gotten a new Tecmo game in 15 years, and I'm unwilling to explore alternatives to getting a Tecmo experience on my Nintendo DS, I'm going to go with the "beggars can't be choosers" camp.

The "could have been" factor is killing me, though. If only they had ported the entire game and then put all of their resources into the customization feature instead of wasting time revamping and breaking the off the field experience, needlessly expanding the rosters, etc. We'd all be jumping for joy right about now.

I honestly think the things that are wrong with this game are honest mistakes by people who just didn't get it rather than outright apathy. I'm afraid, though, that the mistakes that were made will keep the game from being revisited in the future.

That being said, if we hear about a new game, I'm going to need to see plenty of positive feedback that the things that weren't broken before have been fixed this time before I'll buy. I was willing to get this game no matter what so that Tecmo would know that I'm out here. They'll have to earn it the next time around.

No. Tecmo is lucky they have customers who don't even question why the new product is surprisingly mediocre.

Pricetag, I think you are a reasonable man.

But, I don't think we should see ourselves as beggars. We are CUSTOMERS and most of us are very loyal Tecmo customers.

Most of us paid over $160 to play the new Tecmo Bowl. If it wasn't for Kickoff, most of us wouldn't have bought a DS at all. How many Madden fans would pay $160 to play Madden? Many of us would have paid $200, $300, or even $400 to play the new Tecmo Bowl if it was released on another console. Thank God the Kickoff is released on the cheapest console!

As customers, we do have right to complain. We do have right to demand a better product.

I demand more from Tecmo because I love Tecmo. I want Tecmo to be successful once again. Tecmo won't be a successful game company with products like Kickoff. Tecmo better listen to its customers if they want to succeed or stay in business.

I definitely understand your sentiments. I admit, I'm not feeling the same sting that others are because I had already had my DS for two years before Kickoff was announced.

I do think that we need to acknowledge our own bias when it comes to TSB, though. We are dedicated fans, but a small group. We'd have seen more Tecmo Bowl games by now otherwise. There was no way Tecmo was going to put the kind of money into this game that we would have liked. It wouldn't have been smart business given the risk involved.

That being said, I don't think Tecmo has done a whole lot to give this game a chance to be a big seller. I haven't seen any media that I or other Tecmo fans did not seek out. I've been scanning the Sunday ads in the electronics sections to see if the game would show up with other DS games, and have yet to see it.

I agree. Tecmo is lucky there is such a hardcore TSB following after all these years, otherwise they never would've put out a DS version in the first place.

If Tecmo released this game for free I'd understand the sentiment that we were lucky they made it at all, but that's not the case. It cost $30 bucks, that ain't cheap for a DS game. Really, looking at the effort that was put into this game, at most it should've been $15 bucks.

I just find it a little ridiculous that fan-made roms are way better than the DS version. And those roms are free.
