Check out the streams here: http://tecmobowl.org/live_streams

If you have a stream and want us to add it, head to this thread and post a reply: http://tecmobowl.org...witch-username/

Davefmurray is in charge of all things stream. This goes up to 50 if 40 plus join and a 100 if 70 plus commit. Out of my own pocket. If you have a big ego feel free to place a higher bounty on yourself at game time.
$25 dollar prize for those in the first group eliminated. Groups will consist of 4 players. each group will be fairly divided with new and experienced players. Your 3 games in group play will determine your seed in the elimination bracket. The seeded elimination bracket will be single elimination until the elite 8. In the elite 8 it will double elimination.

Gameplay rules
1. dl use with no lurching (Lurching: Lurching is prohibited. If you want to rush with a DL, you must either go outside the offensive tackle or “popcorn” someone on the offensive line. You cannot simply go around your blocker and dive. Note that this rule does not apply to LBs.)
2. cannot have a run play with a wr and te(except reverse). players like Givins and Sanders are considered wr's.
3. playbook changes/lineup editing each pregame
4.“One Matchup Once” Rule: The coin-flip winner can only select a particular matchup once throughout the entire tournament. For instance, if Player A wins the toss and selects Packers-Browns, Player A cannot call that exact matchup for the rest of the tournament. Player B, however, is free to select that matchup later in the tournament.
5. if we use group play...differential of your win and losses in group play will help determine your seed. The most you can win a group play game is 28points... so if you win 35-3...your winning differential will be +28. Note: if we use random triple elimnation your differential wont matter.
6. TIES:
No game can end in a tie. If a game is tied when regulation concludes, competitors will proceed to OT. All OT's will be 5-minute sudden death periods. If no one scores in the first OT, the second OT will be only the first quarter in a new game. This process will be repeated until a winner emerges. So that one competitor does not start with the ball in every OT period, the receiving team (i.e. team that gets the ball first) shall alternate beginning with the second OT period.

How matchup is chosen.

The coin flip winner picks matchup option a. Or option b. Pick a card with a set matchup on it.
If A is chosen the coin flip loser picks team or controller. Then whatever is left goes to coin flip winner.
Option B means you select a random card from a deck of many fair matchups. The coin flip loser still gets to pick his preference of team or controller. the coin flip winner gets whatever is left over.
****NOTE: YOU MAY NOT DEFER A MATCHUP IF YOU WIN THE COIN TOSS*****
(this is given as an alternative for those who do not like to pick a matchup.)

Tournament Issues

All issues will be settled by the tournament crew. Headed by Louis Buennagel, Francis Buennagel. (Others will be designated by gameday as seconds for when we are playing.)
Report contoller issues and any other issues.
Game freeze will be settled by playing out part or all of the game depending on circumstnace. Unless you cause a reset by your physical actions. The final decision is up to the tournament directors or those designated by the directors.
All equipment loaned for the tourney will be tracked. You may use your own controller if it is standard but do not move the other controller from that station. Respect all equipment as if it was your own's.
Excessive misbehavior will result in your elimination from the tourney and all future events.

Sign up mort1237@yahoo.com
sign up with name, location, equipment you can bring.

Systems committed. 21
Game carts 21
controllers 42

televisions 13 no digital screens.

All equipment is welcome in partial or whole.
Your Bracket Guide to Tecmo Madison IX: Marino...

(Don't Go Chasin Atwaterfalls)
Dave M. (Balloneous Assault)
Jason P. (Marc Vlasic Pickle Defense)

The Clayton Region seems the most predictable in terms of projected group winners which probably means we'll see some upsets. Defending champion Chet is the biggest favorite to make the Elite 8 and it will be interesting to see who can challenge Matt M and Sobhi Y to make the double elim. While former champ Sohbi is considered one of the greatest Tecmo players ever, Matt gets the nod due to his impressive year of tournament play including last year's Madison Final 4 run. Eric O and Erik M are perennial Top 16 players who are capable of making a deep run. Travis R and Joesph N represent some of the Nebraska talent finally making it's way to Madison.

Mark Duper Region

Projected Group Winners

Group H - Luke C.
Group I - Jon J. (Hingle McCringleberry)
Jon S. (RogerCraig'slist)
Brett Michael S. (Jesus von Fitzenhopper)
GARY M. (SEXY LOVES SANDWICHES)
Gabriel J. (Likesbutts)

Realistically, I have no idea who will make the Elite 8 from the Duper Region. I went with Luke of his showings in Iowa and Nebraska (only
loss was to Chet) and with feared Jon (Daboys) J who is potentially due for some damage in his second Madison showing. Jeff B, who made the big Elite 8 run last year in dominating fashion and Midwest Tecmo Tournament organizer Chris V are itching to prove they belong among the elite. Hometown Shunker and Garbage are always a threat to go on run. Matt O was one win away from making Mort one of the best players to never win Madison. The one thing this region lacks is clear favorites. Expect major upsets here but be surprised if someone from the Duper Region wins the tournament.

Ferrell Edmunds Region

Projected Group Winners
Group O - Kyle M. (DutchHammer)
Brad A. (Rypien Brawler)
Patrick D. (Anders to the Top)
Jordan K. (Showtime Loo)
Barry K. (Brute Farce)

Potentially the best player never to win at Madison, Kyle (Regulator) was one win away from fulfilling the 10-0 t-shirt he wore last year and is the clear favorite of the Edmonds region to make the Elite 8 and to win the entire tournament. The other clear favorite in the region is Mort, who has won most every tournament of note not featuring Chet. Which local player can knock one of these guys out of the tourney? Seth B., Erik J., and Troy H. are elite lWisconsin players who play online. Their unique play will throw someone for a loop. Tony O. and his entourage is one of the most intimidating plays in all of Madison. While he might not be favored to win his group, Ed G is certainly capable of ruining any of these player's day.

Jim Jensen Region

Projected Group Winners
Group V - Matt V. (The Pecan Sandies)

Big time tourney player Matt V is the favorite to win the Jensen and he's joined by probably one of the most improved Tecmoers in the last two years, Louis B. Typical favorite and former champion Josh H not only has to battle travelling to his own tournament but also running the mike before every round. If he can get past the distraction monster he is one of Tecmo's elite. Brent B and Derek M are two tapping tournament veterans who play a ton of games and are capable of running with the best. AJ has completely revamped his game from last year and is hungry to prove himself. Speaking of tapping, Kyle F will give Louis all he can handle and has the game to make the Elite 8.

Thanks to the guys at Tecmomadison.com, especially Tony, for their awesome tourney site that made this breakdown possible.

Madison Tecmo field better than ever

“We try to ensure that brothers and other guys traveling together don't end up in close proximity to one another,” he added. “No one wants to travel a long distance just to encounter one with whom they are familiar.”

Chet Holzbauer, last year's champion, is the favorite in the Mark Clayton Region. He wouldn’t be mistaken as this year’s overall favorite either.

He is 42-1 in his last six major Tecmo tournaments.

"The Mark Clayton Region is stacked," said Tony James, a TecmoIX analyst. "This region is the home to defending Madison champion, and you would have to believe the overall No. 1 seed."

Along with Chet, there is another Final Four participant from TecmoVIII in Matt Miller in the Mark Clayton Region. Another player in the Clayton region that reached the Elite 8 at TecmoVIII is Jeff B.

"Getting out of this region will be nothing short of amazing," James said.

Among three of last year's top eight is “Best in World” Sobhi, who is a former champion and four-time Final Four participant at Madison. He once made the finals three years in a row.

Eric O'Dell, Detroit Kumite's fearless founder, is a force to be reckoned with, according to James. Alongside him is Louis Buennagel, Francis Buennagel's brother.

Louis is looking to get out of his sibling's shadow. He’s coming off a finals appearance at the Boneyard Bowl in Cleveland.

"I've gone this far without even mentioning some other strong players like Erik Merliss, Johnny Bailey and Immortl," James said.

Like every other region, the Jim Edmunds Region has a lot of power players sprinkled throughout.

Groups O and P contain two online virtuosos who have proven their ability to back up live play in other tournaments.

Kyle Miller should plow through Group O with little resistance, much like last year's group play where he only gave up 3 points in all three games, according to TecmoIX analyst Erik Bergstrom.

Francis Buennagel — also known as Mort — who was featured heavily in the NFL Films documentary, will be the one to watch in Group P. He's the lone participant with Madison experience against virtual unknowns in that group.

"Whether this helps or hurts him remains to be seen," Bergstrom said of Mort. "It's possible he may have to rely on his lucky cartridge lick sooner than he anticipates."

Only one participant in Group Q comes with no Madison experience. It may be a wild chase to see who advances from there, Bergstrom noted.

Could it be Eric D. who shocked the world by beating Sobhi in last year's tournament?

Perhaps the returning Seth B. is ready to continue his winning ways, going far in TecmoVII. He was absent in last year's bracket.

In Group R, Erik J. stands as a favorite, and being a Madison native, he's got home field advantage in a group of mainly newcomers.

Another former Madison champion resides in Group S, Kevin Miller, of Milwaukee. A somewhat early exit last year should have Miller hungry to 'buzzsaw' through his group, according to Bergstrom.

Group T should prove to give off the most volume out of the Edmunds region, with every participant coming with Madison experience, including Tony Orenga and his cheering faction of followers.

Group U comes with perhaps the most participants with something to prove, mostly all having wins in tournament play. Troy Hansen is the one to keep an eye on out of this group, with a solid third place in last year's Madison tournament.

Hansen hit a snag in the Midwest tournament in Ohio afterwards and will most likely be looking to the hallowed grounds of Madison to return to glory.

Luke Carlberg and Jim Bontempo, the only two-time Madison winner, highlight the Mark Duper Region. Carlberg is 26-2 in his last four major Tecmo tournaments.

"With the exemption of a hand full of online players, this has to be the greatest assemblage of Tecmo Super Bowl players ever,” Carlberg said. “The competitive skill level is so high that once you get to the field of 56 every game is a dog fight.

Jon Jones, better known as Daboy, is always a player to look out for every year. He also can make a run in the Duper Region.

Other notable players in the Mark Duper Region are Chris Vogt, who is fittingly labeled the “Dan Marino of Tecmo,” James T. and Matt O’Toole. Juicer Adam G., better known as Garbage, also has a shot at advancing far in the Duper region.

The Jim Jensen Region appears to be the least likely group up for the task, said TecmoIX analyst Matt Knobbe.

While group bye favorites Josh Holzbauer and Matt Vogt have a great shot at making the Elite 8, it's simply been a while since either has been crowned a champion.

Well known for their online as well as tournament play, Derek Ruble and Brent B. are threats to go on long tournament runs, said Knobbe, who operates TecmoBowl.org.

With over 30 tournament games under their belt, Madison veterans Rico R., Kyle F. and former champion Peter K. are capable of running the table into the finals if they've worked off their rust.

The tournament format has changed for the first time since TecmoIII.

"Rather than dividing participants into groups of four and conducting a round-robin, this year's group play will consist of various 8-man double-elimination tournaments," the Madison website said.

Group Winners and Group Runners-Up of each double-elimination tournament will advance to a larger “Bracket”.

The initial rounds in the Bracket will be single-elimination. Double-elimination will be introduced for the Elite Eight Bracket, and the TecmoIX champion will eventually be crowned.

“Having a double elimination final eight,” Knobbe said, “will possibly be the greatest display of Tecmo Super Bowl talent of this century.”

Chris Vogt is a national Tecmo Super Bowl writer and can be followed on Twitter @@vogtcd. Matt Knobbe, Erik Bergstrom and Tony James contributed to this story.

Go back to nestopia, but leave the box in view.

Step 5: Load up/connect to your game like you normally would and start your game vs your opponent

Step 6: After setting lineups, playbooks, etc. Start the game.

Step 7: After the coin toss, save a state of the game (just like you do at the end of the game) REMEMBER WHAT SLOT YOU SAVED IT TO! This shouldn't be that hard because this is also the best place to start recording of your game, so it won't desync later.

Step 8: After the kickoff, Go back to the Condition Checker box. and open the states folder. Now, just like your locating a state to upload after a win, find it and click on it.

Step 9: The box will go away and a NEW box will apear showing "Condition Checker by Bruddog" with all the conditions for the home and away teams for each position except kicker and punter.

Step 10: All the conditions should show "average". leave the box open and in view

Step 11: Go back to playing the game. After EACH quarter you have to save a state to the SAME SLOT to update the conditions. It will NOT update automatically.

Other important items:

1.) Conditions will update only after every quarter
2.) Do not try to update on "cut scenes" like FG kicks, or touchdowns or on the in game substitution screen. You will get an error, corrupt file message, or it won't update. If you get one of those messages simply close out of the message and try again after the next play
3.) Conditions are shown based on the slot where the player resides when the rom was created. Meaning that if you sub a guy in before you start playing, his condition will be tied to that slot. For example, if Jerry Rice is in WR2 and you switch him to WR1 his condition will show in the WR2 slot. This is important when looking at your opponents conditions also.
4.) If you desync and have to restart. Close out of the condition checker and start it up again.
5.) If you open the wrong state at the beginning, you have to close out the condition checker and re open it as there's not way to go back and open another state.
6.) If you mistakenly close out the box and have to reopen it in the middle of the game, the condition checker will show current conditions, not average. Same thing if you forget to save a state at the beginning of the game and save one after the 1st quarter, all current conditions are shown
7.) Practice using it when playing TPC or vs COM, to get used to running the program. Otherwise, you might be suspected of cheating. LOL

View attachment: ConditionsChecker_V3.zip

The main story of "NFL FILMS PRESENTS: Tecmo Bowl" revolves around profiling four of the favorites to win the March, 2012 tournament: "Mort", Sobhi, The Vogt Brothers, and tournament co-founder Chet. Sprinkled into the mix is a series of former and current NFL players reminiscing about their days playing Tecmo, including former Tecmo Super Bowl stars Emmitt Smith and Christian Okoye. One of the most famous players from the game, Christian fittingly is the NFL player featured and serves to illustrate just how far NFL video game have grown in popularity over the years. While many current players will actively lobby EA Sports for higher ratings in Madden, Okoye has only a passing knowledge of the game from fans throughout the years than from actually playing it. As you might expect, Bo Jackson makes an appearance on the show though only in the form of "Tecmo Bo." (BTW, the most legendary video game athlete of all time, despite being asked weekly about the game, has claimed never to have played it.)

The overall production is exactly what you would expect from NFL Films, the booming voice of Facena-esque narrator Robb Webb starting the show"A video game from a bygone era...still alive in the Mid-West....it's Tecmo Super Bowl." It's this classic compelling NFL Films story telling that takes us through the tournament as the favorites are eliminated one by one up to the championship. The group of people I watched the piece with proved that you don't have to know a single thing about Tecmo Super Bowl to find this a fun and entertaining walk through of one of the greatest video football games ever created. The crowd favorite proved to be "Mort" with his genuine enthusiasm in competing in Tecmo tournaments. The Tecmo enthusiast will be impressed by the amount of research and detail that went into this production. Most stories of Tecmo Super Bowl, while glowing tributes, are filled with inaccuracies.

While Tecmo might have missed the mark when trying to re-release the game as Tecmo Bowl Throwback to the X-box and Playstation, NFL Films managed to exceed my expectations in telling the story of an 8-bit football game from 1991. If you've ever played Tecmo Super Bowl before, you're not only going to love this story, you're probably going to try and find that old NES and immediately fire up a game. (Don't worry, you can play this online these days) The show will air

10/22/12 @ 12:30 a.m. EST (ESPN 2)

10/24/12 @ 2:30 p.m. EST (ESPN 2)

10/26/12 @ 4:30 p.m. EST (NFL Network)

10/27/12 @ 1:30 p.m. EST (NFL Network)

We've recently been advised that NFL Films' piece on Tecmo Super Bowl will air on the following dates:

10/22/12 @ 12:30 a.m. EST (ESPN 2)
10/24/12 @ 2:30 p.m. EST (ESPN 2)
10/26/12 @ 4:30 p.m. EST (NFL Network)
10/27/12 @ 1:30 p.m. EST (NFL Network)

These are tentative dates/times, so "check your local listings." Run time is 30 minutes (really 22 mins of air time), so we're not sure how much time will be devoted to the Madison Tournament or its participants. That this is even airing, however, is pretty amazing.

Puretecmo Online Leagues move to TB-org

All,

Before this site existed, Puretecmo was around allowing people to connect via 56k modems to play Tecmo Super Bowl over the internet.
In the following decade the site as helped many players, both offline and online, become better Tecmo players by honing and fine tuning their strategy over the years.

For the last several years I've been running both sites to a point and the various disconnects between the online playing leagues and the producers of hacked roms has always confused me a bit. Finally we have the capability to marry these two sites and I've scheduled it for this weekend.

This has been something that the members of Puretecmo have known about for a while but I wanted to wait until I finalized a moving date to announce on this site. Be prepared for downtime all Saturday and to welcome the new and old members of Puretecmo.
